Project: Johnson 70

Johnson presents the 70 project motor yacht designed from Bill Dixon, with choice for three or four double guest cabins layouts, and a sky-lounge as pictured above or open bridge flybridge.  Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design when designing the Johnson 70 project set to provide a super yacht experience in a 21 meter owner operator size.  The 70 shows the same level of customization as the rest of the Johnson line, encouraging owner input on the design of the accommodations, as well as the helm area, the saloon, dining area, and galley.  Yachtsmen can request a skylounge to preclude the need for a lower helm, and the result is a blank canvas for the interior  main deck area on which they can work with Johnson to create the spaces of their dreams.  The Johnson 70 is also available with a fishing cockpit aft increasing the yacht's flexibility as each build in the series is expected to be different to the other.  The Johnson  70 is standard powered by twin Cats 1015hp.

New Model: Palm Beach GT 50 Express

While developing its next model, Palm Beach identified a void in the refined high-performance marketplace and the stunning new GT50 was born. The design philosophy was to create a visually elegant traditional inspired cruiser capable of forty plus knots, with an economic cruise speed in the mid thirties range, and all in a yacht that was simple to operate and easy to own.  The first Palm Beach GT50 Express made its debut at the Newport International Boat Show.  Initial sea trials of the GT 50 Express hit Palm Beach precise target top-speed projection of 42 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots with a pair 600hp Volvo engines with IPS pod drives. Moreover, at 35 knots the fuel consumption was only 151 liters per hour.  At 25 knots the GT50 sipped a measly 90 liters per hour. These impressive figures make the Palm Beach GT50 Express one of the most efficient yachts available today.  The GT Series incorporates Palm Beach’s unique hull design that results in less resistance to achieve plane while keeping the bow in the water. Each yacht slices through the water and avoids wasting energy to get up on top of the water.  A hyper-focus on lightweight, strong construction helps to ensure the GT50’s efficiency. The hull is a fully infused vinylester cored e-glass construction that is complemented by a fully infused, full carbon fiber deck and superstructure. The deck and bulkheads are structurally bonded to the hull for increased strength and rigidity, forming a semi-monolithic shell that produces a far stronger result.  Another specific goal of the GT50 is to embrace simplicity and ensure owners are spending more time on the water.  Palm Beach gave significant attention to the GT50 Express outdoor spaces in order to comfortably accommodate large groups of guests while underway. Two L-shaped settees in the cockpit flank a transom door to the large teak swim platform. The helm deck is ideally suited for fresco dining or lounging while underway, with an L-shaped settee and a straight settee. The Express model, features a large opening sunroof and Palm Beach’s customary side and aft opening windows provide an open-air atmosphere for an incredible on-the-water experience.  An additional refrigerator and an ice-maker in the cockpit complement the full-service galley below. Twin helm seats serve the carbon fiber helm station, and the single-piece windscreen creates an unobstructed line of sight that is more like a high-performance car than a yacht. Side decks are designed to seamlessly join the cockpit to allow for easy access forward. Below, the attention to detail continues with contemporary finishes blended into a timeless elegance. Timber options include wenge, teak or ash. Broad selections of designer double-stitched fabrics are wrapped around a spacious forward master stateroom, huge head with shower, large galley and a queen-sized berth aft. Engine access is below the cockpit. Palm Beach GT series is off to a flying start with the Open version of the GT 50 finalizing production and set to launch in January 2019 at the Dusseldorf boat show, while production is currently underway for the GT60 that will make its debut in September of 2019.

Project: CRN 45mt Explorer Alfarosso

CRN unveils the AlfaRosso concept, an innovative 45 meter explorer super yacht designed by Francesco Paszkowski.  The Alfarosso will be available in two further lengths of  50 and 55 meters.  The CRN 45 mt Explorer Alfarosso will offer a gross tonnage of 499. Designed for an owner who loves long voyages of discovery to remote places, the CRN AlfaRosso concept is an explorer super yacht of unmistakable style. The rigor of her architectural geometries, her crisply defined hull profile, and sharp, clean lines pairing beautifully with the studied appeal of the open spaces and the exceptional indoor comfort. The stern, lower-deck, and main-deck areas also boast a singular design. Unlike typical explorer yachts, where these are normally technical areas, on AlfaRosso they are designed for guests to savor the sea to its fullest extent. The pool, the extensive terraces, and the glorious windows, some from floor to ceiling, offer a panoramic experience that is not found in similar super yachts.  The craftsmanship of the AlfaRosso will be  displayed both indoor and outdoor, with high elements of teak wood, which forms a bridge between tradition and innovation. In the sumptuous indoor spaces, the continuity between interior and exterior is exquisitely expressed in the understated elegance of the steel handrails, chosen in place of the classic gunwales, in the sophisticated minimalism of the open-step stairs linking the various decks, and in the sense of consummate relaxation exuded by the flush-deck pool on the main deck. These details bring guests into closer contact with the sea and the air, removing any barriers that might hinder the fullest enjoyment of the on-board experience. The tender and all the toys are stowed in the bow area to keep the aft area clear and clean while further emphasizing CRN AlfaRosso’s dynamic personality and its passion for exploration.

Engine: FPT C16 1000hp

FPT Industrial unveils its new C16 1000 marine engine, presented during the 2018 Cannes boat show.  Though the new Cursor 16 has just been unveiled, the engine is already a Guinness World Record holder. Last March, a special version of the Cursor 16 installed on the powerboat achieved the fastest speed on water using a diesel engine, reaching a speed of 277.5 Km/h. This record follows the Cursor 16's previous title of "Diesel of the Year" from 2014.  This new C16 1000 is developed for light commercial and pleasure applications, and distinguishes itself for providing top performance with the compactness and the lightness of a 13-liter engine but with the durability of a 16 liters. This C16 1000 is, in fact, the only 16-liter engine on the market to fit in the packaging of a 13-liter engine. The perks regard both the aesthetic and technical aspects of the engine, which has a 6-cylinder in-line architecture and features the latest generation Common Rail injection system which goes up to 2,200 bar. Its power can reach 1000hp at 2300 rpm, placing itself among the best-in-class performance of the category.  The new C16 1000 has the best durability,  25% more than the competitors on average, while the power 63 hp/lt and torque 220 Nm/lt density are among the best of light commercial segment. These great characteristics couple with a maximum lightness and a best-in-class power to weight ratio of 0,59hp/kg, thus delivering at the same time top performance and best durability. The customer will have an increased cruising and a max speed together with the best transient response for planing.  In order to maximize reliability and resistance to salt and water, the C16 1000 has been designed with specific air, water, oil and fuel circuits. The marinization set includes: heavy duty, high flow sea water pump, a new heat exchanger for improved heat rejection, anodyzed air-intake pipes, a new air filter in epoxy-based material more resistant to salt and humidity, and twisted wiring for maximum resistance to dirt, water and sludge.  The C16 1000 has the compactness of a 13-liter engine, which not only means it is among the best-in-class of its category but that the final customer will have an easier installation and wider space on board as well. Furthermore, the engine has a best-in-class maintenance period of up to 600 hours, which translates into easier and cheaper maintenance operations.  Inside, the C16 1000 features increased fatigue strength new material components;  cylinder block, cylinder head made in Compacted Graphite Iron - CGI, crankshaft and bearings, con-rods, steel pistons, rings, increased flows for oil and water circuits with a professional bronze body and impeller sea water pump, and the last generation of Common Rail with multi-point fuel injection. The turbocharging system is distinguished by a simple and efficient technology with 2 single stage water cooled WG Turbo while the clean and functional lay-out is focused on engine easy serviceability and maintenance, thus granting premium performance, reliability and durability. Finally, regarding the environmental performance, the C16 1000 respects the most stringent regulations along with all the other FPT Industrial engines. Its impact on the environment is reduced for gas emissions, noise, and vibrations, providing not just positive general effects, but also higher comfort of navigation. To achieve these benefits in terms of sustainability, C16 1000 also offers a blow-by system for the best recovery of oil vapors and new green filters for better treatment of engine oils.
