New Model: Princess V85-S

The new Princess V85-S is a further development of the V85 model launched in 2008. This model back then was also Princess first Sport Yacht featuring the demanded sporty second helm up top. Flagship of the successful V-class sport cruiser and yacht series from Princess this new update on the V85-S features a lower profile, redesigned main deck layout, and the option of having more powerful 2600hp MTU engines. Other noticeable different features of the V85-S are a more curved shear line aft, and larger lower window on the main deck versus the old version. Power with the MTU 2600hp option reached a 40 knots top speed. The new V85-S was presented in the early part of 2010 in the Dusseldorf show.

Project: Azimut 50 Magellano

Azimut was already challenging the market back last year when it launched the first 74 Magellano, announcing that a smaller 48 model is already in the works. A year has passed since the unveiling of this important chapter for Azimut and the Italian builder keeps its promise presenting the two feet extended project of the 50 Magellano set to be unveiled in the coming Genoa boat show. In this new project Azimut embraces green technology not only to the hybrid power which gives a speed of 8 knots, but also in the building of the yacht in infusion resin method, a technology that the Italian builder has been among the first to embrace from the big European builders, the Forest Stewardship Council for the woods used on board, and also for being the smallest boat to get the RINA Green Plus. Interior wise the 50 Magellano is also full of choices, having a four option plan for its lower deck which involves a two or three cabin plan, a studio, sofa area, or laundry room choices. The main deck follows recent demand of an astern galley, and a convivial area by the lower helm. For the tender stowage Azimut takes lessons from its faster boats, making the 50 Magellano the first Explorer yacht to incorporate a tender garage, but further space will be available I think on the bathing platform, and on the flybridge. The hull design follows Bill Dixon advanced Dual Mode semi displacement shape with a deep vee bow, shallow dead rise stern, wide chines, and a distinctive soft middle section. Power will be from twin Cummins 425hp which deliver a 22 knots top speed, an 18 knots cruise, and an economic long range 10 knots giving a 1000 nautical miles before filling back the 3000 litres fuel tank.

New Model: Sessa C35 Sports Coupe

Sessa continues to move forward always presenting newer and richer models, and this new C35 Sports Coupe is its next step in a range which becomes always more interesting in looks, fitting out and finishing. Designed as all recent Sessa's by Christian Grande this new sport cruiser represents the next step in a replacement to one of this yard’s greatest achievements and best seller that was the C35, 35 Oyster, or 34 Oyster in its earlier forms delivered to a total of over five hundred models in a ten years run. The C35 Sport Coupe follows recent demanded styles for a hard top and is inspired by the style of the acclaimed C68 flagship, or as I see it similar to the also fall 2009 introduced C38. The clever touch is surely the redistribution of the interior space offered in a clever modular style. The internal layout has been designed to allow the owner a huge freedom of choice. To live in an open space due to a large common area and a single cabin or, by using the partition, to create two equally spacious cabins, one at the bow and the other at the stern, each equipped with private access to both the kitchen and the bathroom. The aft deck also follows recent styles as seen on the 38 but in a smaller size with a single level area offering a C-shaped settee, sun lounger to port, and an outdoor kitchen behind the helm to starboard. Sessa also continues touches of extra luxury on the new medium sized C35 Sport Coupe with the option of having the Design Version which gives a galley fitted out by renowned kitchen specialist Boffi, finished with a rolled steel worktop, and ivory lacquered cabinets. Power is from a standard Volvo twin 220hp or optional 260hp.

Projects: Prestige 400 Flybridge, Prestige 350 Flybridge

Prestige will present a huge revamp to its models line with new projects and changes to current boats expected to happen in all the range. Pictured above is the 400 Flybridge which is to my understanding a further development of the 39 introduced in 2009. Such a fast change is surprising considering this is a new model only in its infancy. May be the Prestige 39 did not bring the desired sales, but I am sure that we will never know the real answer to this question. What the 400 surely offers is a more sport, sleek and elegant looks with the side windows being fully integrated and ending to the sides of the flybridge. The 400 designed by Garroni above the waterline, and under shape by acclaimed US architect Michael Peters follows themes of spaces characterized with huge views on the seas. The interior will offer a twin cabin en suited layout below, plus an extra two berths available from converting the upper saloon. Power is from standard twin 330hp, or optional 380hp Cummins. Prestige presents the project for its new entry level model the 350 Flybridge. Designed as all the line by Garroni, with hull by J&J and concept by Premorei, the 350 Flybridge follows a style similar to the 60 flagship and also to the new 400 above. A comfortable flybridge cruiser with a lower deck with two cabins and the always much in demand big view windows. The accommodation plan of the 350 will be an owners double to fore, a two single which converts to a double guest, and a shower head. A C-shaped saloon which also becomes an extra double berth, and a galley on the main deck complete the interior layout. The Prestige will also be powered by stern drive engines, with the builder claims a 30% better economy and for this to be the smallest flybridge motor cruiser. Actually Galeon offer this on the 330 since a few years now, and back in the eighties I also remember the Fairline 31 Corniche, or Gobbi 31 Cabin offering a flybridge with stern drive. Although thanks to new joystick technology I am sure the Prestige 350 Flybridge marina manoeuvring today will be much easier then in those times. Power will be from twin Volvo 220hp diesel engines.

New Model: Rio 42 Air 2010

Continuing with its latest redesigns Rio presents the new 42 Air 2010 model. As was the case for the new 42 Art this model is completely different from the old 42 Air, which was a stretched bathing platform extended version of the previous 40 model. The 42 Air 2010 is the hard top version of the Naples 2010 show presented Art. The Rio design team presented a very good looking integrated full of glass hard top, and a bit similar in looks to that of the recent 36 and 46. The 42 Air keeps also important themes like economic fuel efficient stern drive propulsion, full beam mid ship stateroom, and well spaced functional exterior deck. The 42 Air 2010 will also boast just as its open 42 Art sister, the unique feature of high low bathing platform on a stern drive powered sport cruiser. Speed is a 35 knots max, and a 27 cruise with standard twin Volvo 330hp engines.

INBUILD ~ Galeon 385 HT Part 5 0f 7

A huge step forward has gone into the building process of the 385 HT from the last time when we showed the hull stringers being attached to the hull. The above photo which equals to part five of the series shows hull number two with the deck and hull attached, as are the side railings. Fitting out is being done on deck by three workers and this was end of July. What this photo also shows are wide side decks too. Not bad if one is in his older years. This hull two should be the one to be debuted in Cannes. I also was just fortunate enough to see unedited photos of the completed hull number one which has a bronze colored orange, and I am speechless. This has to be one of Galeon's and Tony Castro best looking boats and should be a show stopper for anyone looking for an eleven or twelve metre size sport cruiser, but also for any passionate boater. Watch this spot to see more before the Cannes show, where you should see the 385 HT in its completed glory before its debut!

Projects: Hatteras GT54, Hatteras GT63

Hatteras presents the projects of two new models which show the expanding of the new GT line, which will start with the launching of the GT60 this coming fall. Pictured above is the first of these new projects what will be the lightest, smallest of the Hatteras line the GT54. A completely new model versus the 54 Convertible which decreases a couple inches of overall length, but increases beam by over a feet versus the model it replaces. The beam addition adds space to the GT54 having a three double cabins with two heads lower deck. Construction continues Hatteras resin infusion method build which reduces weight and adds strength. The GT54 keeps on its Carolina style with a smooth shear line, dynamic bow flare, and a foredeck carefully balanced with the low super structure. Hull shape is the Hatteras convex bow variable Vee with deep propeller pockets aft. Power is from twin Cat engines with a standard 1150hp or optional 1600hp. This later option giving a 41 knots top speed. Hatteras design project team has been very busy lately and in less of a year time a total of three new models should be presented. The GT63 project pictured above is in my understanding a replacement of the 64 Convertible, although in the press release I received this does not say. If compared with the 64 the GT63 adds sixteen centimetres of more beam, looses the large hull view windows to mid ship, and will feature a standard four cabins three shower heads layout. The looks of the GT63 by the rendering above show also a more classic taste also thanks to the wooden stern, and a more higher bow. Hatteras has always approached a modern global Carolina design but always with a clean distinction like a soft bow flare, and a smooth shear line. Power which is an important part of the new GT series goes again above the forty plus barrier with the large Cats 1900hp option doing 41 knots of max and a 36 cruise. Another strong data of the new GT models is a 400 NM range. Unveiling of the GT63 is set for the 2011 Miami show in February. www.hatterasyachts.com

New Model: Rodman 50 Muse

Rodman have gone a long way since in 2006 they launched the first of there luxury yacht range designed by Italian Fulvio De Simoni the 54 Muse. This was followed by the 74 a year later, then the 44, and latest the fourth 50 model. This one announced in mid 2009, and unit one launched at the end of that same year. Unlike its predecessor the 44, the 50 Muse takes a more conservative approach to its interior with a classic three cabin plan having an owners suite to fore, a guest shower head, and two double cabins to mid ship. I am sure the large circle windows to mid ship of the hull would have made you think that you have a full beam cabin there but so far this is not so. The main deck also is another typical of a Mediterranean yacht with a split level saloon having a C-shaped settee, helm station to starboard, unit, and the C-shaped galley on the raised part to port. Power for the conservative inside, and modern outside 50 Muse is from twin Volvo 670hp, which give a 32 knots max, and a 26 knots cruise delivering a 300 nautical miles range.

Project: Mig 43 HT

The Mig 43 HT is a new hard top version for this recent addition to the line for this Rome based Italian builder. The hard top designed by Studio Mignarelli from Ancona is becoming always more requested in boat of all sizes due to its comfort, so Mig Marine which just re branded from the old Marine Yachting name decided to offer this accessory on one of its latest models, the 2006 presented 43. The hard top of the 43 follows classic looks and will have a huge central opening of about ninety per cent of the area. The Mig 43 hard top will also have clear sides in order to allow more air circulation. For the remaining the 43 HT keeps the plans of the standard 43 with huge sun lounger aft, C-shaped settee, helm station outside and a lower deck with a two or three cabins plan. Power is the usual good performance from Mig with the 43 powered by twin Volvo 370hp stern drives giving forty knots max, and 34 knots cruising speed.

New Model: Otam 58 Millennium Open

Seems like a totally reinvented model but actually the hull lines of the new 58 Millennium Open come from the 1997 presented 55, which recently became the 58 thanks to a redesign of the hard top. But the 58 Millennium Open is a new boat from what is above the hull, and this includes the interior cabin area, exterior aft deck layout, and the super structure. Surprisingly although newer the 58 Millennium Open lines and windshield do embrace more classic looks then to the older HT version. Below the offer is for two layouts with the standard being two cabins owners room to fore, guest midship, and a crew room. Second choice gives a fore cabin with two french beds, a second guest double to midship, and a crew room which moves to fore. Power is from twin 1650hp Cat engines which gives this 28 tons plus Sport Yacht a well respected 55 knots speed.
