Project: Marquis 690 Fly Bridge

Marquis presents the project for a new 690 Fly Bridge model.  So far the 690 Fly Bridge model seems an update of the current 690 with new circle shape port holes, and different more aggressive big view windows serving the owner full beam stateroom.  Another different design seems also the hard covering the flybridge.  The new tweaks of the 690 should make it more online and similar looking to the current flagship of the Marquis line the 720. If this model will offer a different layout below to the current three stateroom plan, and a different engine power propulsion package we still don't know.

New Model: Apreamare 45 Smeraldo

Apreamare presented the 45 Smeraldo at the Cannes show the past September.  The 45 Smeraldo is a return to a name used by Apreamare in the nineties, and is a design of architect Spadolini for exterior lines plus interior, and Umberto Tagliavini for hull shape.  Measuring 45 feet overall the new Smeraldo keeps the traditional Italian Gozzo fishing boat lines, but gives a further touch of modernity compared to the other current Apreamare models, although surprisingly there is no in fashion big view windows in the lower deck cabin area.  The latest Apreamare traditional 48, and 64 models have in fact featured these to midships. The interior lower deck offers a two cabins plan with owners suite to fore.  A crew cabin is located to port side behind the well sized galley.  Power is from twin Volvo 370 or optional 435hp engines with IPS pods propulsion.  The 45 Smeraldo is the second Aprea which goes the pod drives propulsion route following the use of these by the 66 Maestro launched the past Spring.

Project: Lazzara LMY64

Lazzara presents the project of the LMY64.  This new project will share hull with another model currently in the works for this US builder the LSX64, with a different super structure which adds a flybridge, and new very spacious four stateroom lower deck layout.  This last at this size being one of the greatest attributes of this upcoming Lazzara model.  The four stateroom plan also offers three very spacious cabins; full beam midships owner stateroom, two VIP suites, and a fourth cabin with twin L-shaped bunk berth.  This last being a bit sacrificed but four cabins are very rare indeed in this size. Power for the LMY64, will be from twin Volvo 900hp with pod being the chosen propulsion.  Worth to note that pods has powered nearly all new recent Lazzara of the last years, which currently has four new model projects, three of which will be powered by the innovative efficient drive systems.

New Model: Italcraft 38 Sarima S3

Italcraft a legendary name to what concerns technical aspects of boat design, especially for the hull shapes it pioneered, presents a new important model the 38 Sarima S3.  The new Italcraft Sarima S3 is based on the hull lines of the 38 Sarima launched in 1998, but features a total update in all the layout; both outside in the cockpit, and inside for the cabin area.  Down side to this is only stern drive propulsion, with the replaced model used to have also shafts, IPS pods, and surface drive as other choices. The signal S3 is also fully deserved here, as this is the third generation Sarima, which follows on the success of the first wood built 25 feet series delivered in seven hundred units in the nineteen sixties and seventies, and today being a collectors item.  The difference from the second generation in the new S3 is definitely more space everywhere, and that is saying something considering that the 1998 design was spacious, and that was already impressive being it was born from a hull of military patrol use derivation.  That is unlike most of today designs the Sarima is built around the sea, and not a spacious cabin.  The cockpit layout of the new S3 is a flush deck, fully open plan, with an L-shaped settee, galley,  fore sun pad to port side, and helm station to starboard.  Below is a spacious affair with a layout offering two cabins; shower head, L-shaped settee, galley, and second guest shower cubicle.  The guest mid-ships cabin has also the option of being offered in an optional three sleeping berths configuration.  Power choice is for Volvo engines; from twin 220 up 300hp which give speeds up to a max of 40 knots with the bigger option.

Project: MJM 36z Express

Presenting its 36z model in its Downeast version, MJM now presents the more sports looking Express project.  Similar down East hull lines capture this new 36z Express which feature more aggressive looks up top, mostly coming in the design of the hard top and the windshield protecting the helm and the cockpit from the elements.  The rest is all coming from MJM hull with a good fuel efficient shape below waterline, and a high technology low weight construction.  The internal layout has the same options of Vee shaped berth to fore, or double berth plus separate head, and galley.  Power choices are for twin Volvo stern drives with standard being 170hp, and 220 or 300hp units offered as option.

New Model: Azimut 40 Flybridge

Launched in early Summer 2011, and presented officially in Cannes the Azimut 40 Flybridge is a further evolution of the 38 model launched in 2009.  The Azimut 40 is the baby entry level of the vast range of this very famous Italian boat builder.  The major changes in the 40 which differentiate it from the 38 model happen at the stern with the hydraulic telescopic gangway now moved to starboard side instead of central this offering larger tender stowage space, the settee aft being now moved central and not divided, and a larger high low bathing platform. In the project press release of August Azimut also promised a sun roof glass opening from the flybridge to the saloon, but so far I cannot spot this feature. The interior of the 40 remains the same well used layout of the 38 offering unseen space and a good balance of comfort in a two cabins head layout.  The owners suite is to fore, and the second guest cabin having two large view windows is located to starboard midships.  Power is from twin Cummins 355hp which give a top speed of 31 knots, and a cruise of 26.

Web: Giorgi New Web Site

Giorgi is an Italian boat company who presents its new World wide virtual showroom.  Giorgi was founded in 1954 on the Adriatic sea, in Pesaro.  It first started as a company repairing boats and yachts, which it later moved on to producing cruisers in the seventies.  In the eighties Giorgi fame grew thanks to the solid construction of its builds; and models such as the X10, and the 39 and 46 designed by Fulvio De Simoni.  These last two models apart being good sellers at the time are still very much sought after today in the used boat market. In 2004 after a period of stop production, the boat building brand has since then been sold and now has moved to a new establishment in Bergamo, North Italy.  The current Giorgi line up features eleven models all of sport design from the 45 Open, to the 80 Hard Top.  The four large models from the 55 to the 80 Hard Top are still in project stages.  Giorgi new web site available in Italian takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Company, Fleet, Dealers, Used, News, and Contacts.

New Model: Cranchi M35 ST

Cranchi presents the M35 ST, a medium sized hard top sport cruiser based on the hull lines of the 36 Zaffiro.  The M35 ST has been a much waited model from Cranchi, and in fact a hard top 36 Zaffiro was announced a few months after the standard open radar arch model was launched in 2008.  Considering how the demand for this size with hard top has increased Cranchi is late in this regard.  The Cranchi design team while in the works of this new model, also presented a new cockpit design to this model which improves the layout from the 36 Zaffiro.  The entrance to the aft deck on the M35 ST is now moved to port side, and the C-shaped settee is to the opposite and larger. Inside the layout is a copy of the 36 sleeping four plus two in two cabins plus a convertible saloon, with a galley and shower head in the middle.  New large view windows have also been added to the hull side serving the guest cabin to midships.  Power is from twin Volvo 300hp which give a max speed of 34 knots.

Project: Grand Banks 54 Heritage EU

Grand Banks Yachts marked the opening of the world's biggest boat show with an announcement of the newest and biggest model in its iconic Heritage Series lineup, the  54 Heritage EU, a "Europa-style" trawler motoryacht with a powerful blend of luxury, seaworthiness and fine craftsmanship.  This new project will launch in spring of 2012. Like other "new-generation" Heritage models, the 54EU features a modified-V hull designed to achieve better performance at higher speeds, while still delivering solid fuel economy, stable cruising comfort and longer range at displacement speeds.  An expansive main deck provides a very generous amount of living and entertaining space that flows smoothly on one level from its helm back through the galley, dining area and salon, then out to a large cockpit that extends the living area outdoors with its built-in settee and teak dining table.  Up top, an extended flybridge deck boasts plenty of room for family enjoyment, with two settees facing a teak dining table, an optional sun pad with adjustable reclining backs, and plenty of built-in storage with options for a wet bar, ice maker and BBQ. A standard Stidd helm seat sits on the center line before a large flybridge helm console, with a second optional Stidd to starboard. Space aft can hold a four meter tender and the standard davit. A flybridge hardtop is optional.  Down below, the standard lower-deck layout features three staterooms, all generously sized for a 54-foot vessel. The forward VIP cabin with queen-size berth has en-suite access to a head with shower, while a second guest cabin sits to port. The large master stateroom sits amidships with a queen-size berth, abundant closet and drawer storage, and a head with twin sinks and separate shower.  Even more storage plus room for a separate washer, dryer and other optional features can be found in the utility room that sits just aft of the master cabin and forward of the well-designed engine room. This space can, at the owner's option, also be configured as quarters for a crew of two.  On the main deck, dual settees in the salon provide ample seating for lounging or viewing the standard LED television. A well-equipped galley sits comfortably behind the helm and across from an efficient L-shaped dinette, well situated for dining together even when underway.  New for the Heritage Series, the 54EU foredeck features built-in seating around a teak cocktail table, adding yet another gathering space or comfortable hideaway for taking in the sun and air.  The new 54EU is built on the same Grand Banks designed hull as the 53 Aleutian RP, which has garnered worldwide acclaim for its dry and stable handling in rough seas and across a wide range of speeds. Standard twin Cummins 600hp diesel engines can power the 54 Heritage EU to a top speed of over 18 knots, or can cruise at a sedate 8 knots for well over 1100 nautical miles on a single tank of fuel.

New Model: Absolute 40 Fly

Absolute presents the 40 Fly, the entry level model of its flybridge line which was launched last year with the 50 and 43, and so far already features four models.  The Absolute 40 Fly is a very interesting flybridge cruiser featuring a very airy main deck with opening side door, fully open aft patio doors joining the interior saloon to the aft cockpit, and a spacious flybridge which can make bigger boats jealous.  The flybridge motor cruiser also has an up and down hydraulic bathing platform with quite a wide space for a tender.  A note here that there is very few flybridge boats which offer it in this size.  The new Galeon 400 and Azimut 40 come to mind. Below is space for a two cabins both with en-suite, and a galley.  The owners room is to fore, with large view windows to both sides. Power for the Absolute 40 Fly is twin Volvo from 300 up to 370hp in IPS or stern drive propulsion.  For a flybridge I suggest IPS all the way, because if the joystick goes bust it surely would be easier to manoeuvre then with stern drive.

Project: Sasga 32

Sasga who just recently has launched its first model the 42, presents an important entry level project the 32.  Measuring just ten meters in length the Sasga 32 follows the Spanish Llaut fishing boat design, and takes it in style to become a traditional looking cruiser.  The Sasga 32 will offer two separate cabins located below, with a living and galley on the main deck by the pilothouse to starboard side.  Huge view windows characterize the Sasga 32 from the super structure, to the below cabin deck.  Power is from twin 230hp engines, which should give a top speed of 18 knots the slowest of the Sasga range so far, as both the bigger 42 and 54 are capable of 23 knots wide open throttle performance. Cruise is from 16 to 12 knots, reminding that the slower you go the better range to gain, and also better fuel consumption to the nautical mile.

New Model: Jeanneau NC9

One has to admire Jeanneau and the Beneteau Group, who since starting to put more effort in the powerboat sector in 2000, and a success sparkle which came from the 34 Prestige S the French boat building giant has not only increased its offer in the category but also enhanced it in all its global form.  This can be seen in the sport fishing center console line up, more luxury attitude, and lastly in the more Northern cold climate all year usage coming from the NC11 presented more then a year ago.  The NC9 is a follow up to this first model which copies the intelligent function as offered by the bigger 11 in a smaller more affordable package.  What is sure is although it measures over one meter less the NC9 does not offer much less in terms of comfort, having the same clever albeit a bit smaller two cabin design.  The NC9 which is again a design of Italy Garroni responsible not only for the NC, but also for the Jeanneau Leader line, and Prestige models also features intelligent solution to improve space in a dedicated area like the sliding aft sliding settee in the cockpit, fully opening patio door, side helm door, and moving saloon.  Power and here is again my sad note for the NC9 is from a single Volvo 260hp.  Twin power would surely have made the NC9 itching to a wider cruising boat audience, but may be this would have also affected sales to the NC11.

Improve-it = Cigarette 39 Top Gun Unlimited

Ciagarette presented itself at the Fort Lauderdale show with an improved 39 Top Gun Unlimited, an evolution of this model featuring a new top deck profile, engine hatch redesign, enhanced cockpit fittings, and more powerful engine package.  The 39 Top Gun Unlimited in fact will be powered with staggered Mercury Racing 700's and NXT drives, kicking speed up a notch. Its Mercury Racing and Garmen instrumentation stand out on a black carbon fiber dash, and the full billet package includes speaker covers, foot boards, bolster bases, swim platform and fender holders.  The striking paint design of the first model of the improved 39 Top Gun Unlimited combined matte black, bright blue and lipstick red accents on shimmering pearl white to make a sleek silhouette and a classic Cigarette. The sharp black and white Daytona style interior show Cigarette's unrelenting attention to detail; white on white double stitching and design accents in the cockpit are carried into the "Cover Girl" cabin.  The new engine hatch design is another Cigarette statement on performance. Expanding the air-intake and cooling of the higher horsepower engines inspired this hatch which includes two, 3-D stainless steel, machined panels, framing a sizable sun pad with added stainless screens for a unique flair. While acting as an air-induction system, these panels add a touch to the revamped 39 Top Gun Unlimited and maybe even a little "Tail of the Dragon" feel as the boat achieves triple-digit speeds with ease.

New Model: Overmarine Mangusta 72

Overmarine headed to this year Genoa boat show with a new renovated Mangusta 72, which updates this successful model mostly onboard in many areas from more powerful engines to a redesign of all the layout from the main to the lower deck.  A notable most important difference of the new Mangusta 72 is the back enclosure patio door, which makes the hard-top salon now completely closed.  The new patio door is made of crystal with smoked glass and features access from two sliding partitions which open the area to the aft deck. Thanks to the patio door the interior layout and design are thoroughly renovated, with the main deck now allowing for the stairs to be completely opened and accessible. The now enclosed living room is casually opulent, with the area becoming covered or open thanks to the hydraulic sliding roof, and patio door which gives a formidable flexibility to the use of this space.  Accessing the lower deck there is another salon equipped with big windows and then three cabins, each with its own bathroom. The Master is full beam with light flowing through four portholes. The Mangusta 72 also features a large galley that allows easiness in cooking as well as relax corner for the crew.  The design philosophy of this stunning yacht was to strike with a new furniture and interior style. Contemporary materials are used: Wengewood floors throughout the boat tastefully match the brown leather headboards in the rooms, as well as the Emperador dark marble in the bathrooms; while the natural oak panels and furniture are elegantly contrasted with satin stainless steel joints.   The exterior offers an array of enjoyment possibilities with a large sunbed and access to the water toys in the garage.  The Overmarine Mangusta 72 also receives new power comes from twin MTU 1600hp, an extra of 100hp to the previous set up which with the Arneson surface drives combination deliver a top speed of 40 knots.

New Model: Mulder 55 Explorer

Mooie Nel is a new Mulder 55 Explorer built for a client from the Netherlands. Although most Mulder yachts head for the Mediterranean region, she will mainly be cruising in Northern Europe and be berthed close to the builder's yard in Voorschoten, Netherlands. As the first Explorer yacht in the Mulder Shipyard range, Mooie Nel is a landmark project in many respects.  The famous Dutch Shipyard created Mooie Nel under its ‘Built by Mulder’ label, which offers clients the opportunity to utilise the expertise and craftsmanship of the shipyard and realise their own design for a dream yacht. Naturally, the design needs to be in line with the character and quality standards applied by the yard.  The Mulder 55 Explorer has a round-bilged hull to ensure excellent performance in all weather conditions. Her engine system consists of two John Deere 200hp each, giving a maximum speed of 11 knots and a cruising speed of nine. The white superstructure and grey hull have been combined with various high-gloss varnished teak details and polished stainless steel. Despite its robust character, the 55 Explorer has maintained an elegant appearance.  The yacht interior consists of cherry wood with unvarnished teak floors. A unique feature is the floor heating throughout the yacht to ensure a constant temperature throughout. The Mulder 55 Explorer interior layout offers three suites: Two guest cabins amidships and an owner’s stateroom fore. The saloon has a spacious L-shaped sofa and the galley is fully equipped with high-end kitchen appliances.  The wheelhouse contains a comfortable L-shaped sofa with great views over the water. A press of the button slides down the automatic screens to blind the wheelhouse windows. Additionally, the wheelhouse has a large electric sliding roof for maximum ventilation and an outdoor feel. The four teak swing doors provide access to the aft deck, which is fitted with a U-shaped sofa with comfortable cushions.  Mulder Shipyard is currently working on various other projects such as a new 73 Flybridge, a 98 Flybridge and several of the much appreciated down East lobster boat looking Favorite models.

The Storm

The Storm is not the next movie flick involving some motor boater in gale force winds and high seas, but is in my experience what the boat building industry has been experiencing since 2009 with very little good days in between.  That is a three years period of very difficult market situation.
After the global melt down and sub prime crisis in 2009, we have seen bits of 2010, and more in 2011 of the sovereign debt crisis involving mostly Europe and other developed countries.  The situation is not good considering that most of the countries involved represent core growth or good market value for most European and US boat builders.  Those builders who have a global market share with a World wide distribution feel a bit better in this situation but even these have tremendous sales decreases, which growing markets as Brazil, India, and China cannot actually cover.
So what does the future hold for the coming year? Can the market which now features double the competition to what it had ten years ago, return back to sustained levels, and more stable conditions.  Only a couple of more months can reply to this question.  But with the war in Libya finished the economy and market should settle down things to a more normal status in the upcoming months.

Azimut Wins Nautical Design Awards

Thursday, October 20, in Milan – capital of design and Made in Italy – the official ceremonies were held for the 2011 Nautical Design Awards, the most important and preeminent recognition devoted to boating design. Azimut Yachts was the star of the evening with Magellano 50, the secure and sophisticated long-range 50-footer that had its public premier one year ago. The panel of judges, which consisted of experts from the boating and design sectors coordinated by ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale – Association for Industrial Design) in collaboration with Yacht & Sail, recognised the Magellano 50, holder of the most awards in the category “Boats with Low Environmental Impact”, for its innovative capacity and extensive technological features in the service of the environment and the owner. Of the main characteristics, particularly noteworthy are the exclusive “Dual Mode” hull, a newly conceived semi-displacement hull that enables extremely smooth transition between displacement and planing modes, guaranteeing both optimal stability and comfort while underway and superior response and efficiency of the hull in both modes. With Magellano 50, Azimut Yachts offers not merely a new design but moreover new functions and a new yachting dimension, once again demonstrating its great innovative abilities and design and building expertise that puts it at the very top of the world boating industry. With the Nautical Design Award, the two yachts automatically gain access to another important triennial selection – open to all categories of products – the ADI Design INDEX, which brings with it the possibility of being awarded the Golden Compass, for more than 50 years the most coveted recognition for Italian design.

Azimut Wins Barca Dell'Anno 2011

The Azimut 45 has won the coveted 2011 Boat of the Year award from the magazine Vela e Motore, which was presented during the gala ceremony in Genoa on the evening of October 5. For ten years, this award has been given to the stars of the new boating season, conferring internationally important recognition on the winners. Once again, the Azimut brand, a part of the Azimut Benetti Group, has proven to be the market leader through the innovative spirit and unique design distinguishing its boats. In particular, the Azimut 45 model stood out for its functionality and design creativity; indeed, the most striking of these aspects are the modular flybridge, the offer of 2- or 3-cabin versions, the extraordinary galley with a length of 3.2 linear metres, and a VIP cabin amidships, whose size and the inclusion of a magnificent panoramic window make it a veritable second master cabin.

Azimut Earns Occupational Health and Safety System Certification

Azimut-Benetti SpA has obtained certification of its Occupational Health and Safety Management System, BS OHSAS 18001:2007. It is the first marine group specialized in luxury pleasure craft to obtain this certification for multiple production facilities. The certification was granted by the international body RINA and involved more than 14,000 hours of training to over 2,000 employees. While for the moment it regards the Avigliana and Savona works of Azimut Yachts and the Viareggio facility of the Benetti Class, extension of the certification to the Group’s other branches is already in the study and implementation phase.

Beneteau Group Communication

On Tuesday October 4th a broker passed on misleading comments to a certain number of investors, combining information released by the Group during the evening of Thursday September 29th with anonymous opinions from four dealers and unfounded rumors. Since then, many boat dealers have come forward to say that the claims do not reflect their business at the start of this season in any way at all. The Group would like to remind you that it will be communication on its vision of the market for 2011-12 season following the Autumn Shows as it does each year. However, it would like to clarify three points as of now. The Cannes and La Rochelle shows went well for the Group’s brands, with a level of activity that was virtually the same as last year. This indicator for the French market does not make it possible to draw any conclusions concerning changes in the overall market. Stocks of boats across the dealer networks are at normal levels for the start of this season. No Short-time working measures are planned or being looked into. Giving credence to this rumour can do nothing but undermine the qualty of labour relations established with the company. We are of course on hand should you require any further clarification or information following the communication.

CRN and Riva with Christian Jankowski at Frieze Art Fair London 2011

CRN and Riva, two luxury yachting brands of the Ferretti Group, will play a central role in an installation by Berlin-based artist Christian Jankowski, at this year’s Frieze Art Fair 2011. Curated by Sarah McCrory, The Finest Art on Water will be part of Frieze Projects, a series of special commissions which offer viewpoints that will elicit a shift in the viewer’s perception as they move through the fair. Jankowski has collaborated with yacht builders CRN, featuring the project of a 68 metre vessel, whose exteriors and interiors lines are designed by the designers of Officina Italiana Design, and will be produced by the shipyard in the contemporary artwork. The Aquariva Cento, a limited edition boat, also designed by Officina Italiana Design, that is available as a tender for CRN superyachts and embodies the modern Riva style and elegance, will be sculpturally displayed as part of the installation, simultaneously challenging an art audience and yacht lovers. Jankowski aims to engage directly with the idea of sales and exchange and the value of luxury goods. The Finest Art on Water is not only a yacht but also an art work; an exclusive, ready-made art piece that implicates, involves and engages the spectator. Visitors to the installation will play the part of prospective buyers, as they view the interior and listen to the description of the boat. Jankowski’s work encompasses film, video and performance in which, consciously or subconsciously, viewers become active participants. CRN specializes in the construction of fully customised mega yachts in steel and aluminum from 44 to 85 metres and has recently launched a revolutionary range of custom pleasure ships ‘Dislopen’, combining the aesthetics of open boats with the comfort of displacement vessels. The Aquariva Cento, designed by Officina Italiana Design, which will be displayed sculpturally at Frieze, is the ultimate in elegance and luxury and was commissioned as a special edition to celebrate the hundredth unit of the original Aquariva. The soft, elegant lines of the 33 foot Aquariva Cento exude tradition, whilst still managing to be highly innovative. The valuable, skilfully carpentered woods of the deck are mahogany with maple inlay and the innovative, electronically-controlled, two speed gearbox brings out all the passion and power of the two 380 horsepower Yanmar engines, resulting in an exceptional performance. Founded in 1842 in Sarnico, Riva is the oldest shipyard in the world never to have interrupted production and is protected by the Italian Fine Arts Society. The original quality and artisan care have been maintained over the years, to which innovation, elegance, style and design have been added. The history of CRN is a story full of successes, which have been accumulating right from the beginning. Set up by Sanzio Nicolini in 1963, the shipyard immediately established itself in a market which targeted a very selected clientele. This has been the guiding principle behind CRN right from the outset and has earned it a position among the top world builders of luxury mega yachts in association with important designers who helped establish the brand internationally. Riva and CRN have a strong history of working together, dating back more than 40 years. Now the two brands have a collaboration to produce a new line of megayachts measuring more than 50 metres.

Ferretti Group to Restructure Captital

The Board of Directors of Ferretti S.p.A., with the aim to maximize the value of the Group, also in light of an order portfolio that to date comprises approximately 465 million euros, an increase of around 44% compared to the 322 million euros on the same date in 2010, and also in consideration of the current financial market conditions, deliberated to start a consensual process to restructure its capital structure through a significant reduction in debt position and by raising new money. To this end, the Ferretti Group has already started talking to its main lenders, who have expressed their willingness to assess the possibility of such restructuring process. With regard to the offer by Shandong Heavy Industry Group (“SHIG”), the Board of Directors of the Ferretti Group, while confirming the industrial validity of a possible deal with the Chinese Company, deems that to date it still contains a number of elements of uncertainty, which therefore require further evaluation. The Ferretti Group therefore confirms its intention to continue to pursue discussions with counterparties with the aim to evaluate all opportunities. In terms of its business, despite the phase of contraction that the entire nautical sector is currently witnessing, the Ferretti Group continues to operate with the usual dynamism, taking part with its prestigious brands to all the main international nautical trade shows. Linssen and Victorinox Share Vision

The new marketing concept of the renowned Maasbracht boatyard is a total success. During the HISWA in-water boat show in September, a new campaign was launched and new catalogues were issued. The show also featured the presentation of the first yacht resulting from the cross-marketing arrangement with Victorinox, the manufacturers of the Swiss Army Knife. The enthusiastic response was very satisfying for Yvonne Linssen, the third generation Linssen family member responsible for marketing and sales. The 30.9 Sedan Victorinox Edition is the first product that encapsulates the brand philosophy of both family firms in a entirely new dimension. The legendary quality and reliability of Victorinox knives applies in equal measure to the boats built in Maasbracht. Victorinox and Linssen are particularly proud of the fact that their shared vision and spontaneous cooperation (during the opening of the Victorinox Flagship Store along the Königsallee in Düsseldorf in February) quickly resulted in collaborative measures that both companies are skilfully exploiting and which extend far into 2012. The Victorinox Swiss Edition of Linssen Yachts is available as a 30.9 Sedan or in the AC version. As you would expect from a Linssen, this yacht is very complete and enhanced by the addition of Victorinox insignias (the famous cross and shield trademark). It goes without saying that the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is also included. The striking red coating and the white superstructure clearly reflect this splendid product. Both versions are provided with very economical Volvo Penta diesel engines that guarantee efficient fuel use, low noise levels and environmentally-friendly operation. These characteristics have been very important to both companies for years as they have always placed great emphasis on sustainable energy use and respect for the environment! The 30.9 Victorinox with hull no. 2948 named "Emilia" did not feature long in the showroom as it was soon sold. The proud owner – who has been a convinced Victorinox Swiss Army Knife enthusiast since the age of 14 – is delighted with his new yacht. A series of 20 yachts in the Victorinox Swiss Edition has been planned. The second boat in this exclusive series is now under construction and is expected to be delivered to its owner in Switzerland in May 2012.

These spaces allow the construction of yachts over 60 meters. The facilities will be opened early next year and in the meantime the project of the Mangusta 205 will be finalized and production will begin as soon as the premises will be available. The Mangusta range has also been renovated, while maintaining the timeless design, through the introduction of new technical and aesthetic improvements.

Palm Beach Takes Best Powerboat Trophy

The Australian designed and built Palm Beach 55 motor yacht has, for the second consecutive year, been awarded the prestigious ‘Best Powerboat’ trophy for its category at the Newport International Boat Show in America. The Palm Beach 55 Express was recognized by the judges as being superior to many of the world’s best-known brands in motor yachts. It is the first time in the 41-year history of this highly regarded show that the same company has won this award two years in a row. The Newport International Boat Show, which is staged on the historic waterfront of Newport, Rhode Island, is the official venue for the debut of the best new boats and boating products for America’s 2012 season. It is one of the largest in-water boat shows in the country. Richards, who is well known in international sailing circles as the skipper of Sydney Hobart race record holder and five-time line honours winner, Wild Oats XI, said that apart from impressing the judges, the Palm Beach 55 proved to be a ‘show-stopper’ with boating enthusiasts in Newport. They were most impressed by the Palm Beach 55’s styling, sensible accommodation plan, standard of finish and performance. A New York businessman ordered a Palm Beach 50 on the spot during the Newport show, and subsequently a Florida couple ordered a Palm Beach 55. Sunseeker Go Around the Globe with Peters and May

Peters & May, the global leader in boat shipping and logistics, recently shipped two Sunseeker yachts to Hong Kong from the yacht builder's shipyard in Poole, UK. As an independent shipping company, without ties to any particular carrier, Peters & May can devise a variety of shipping options to suit a client's budget, time-table and destination. The Sunseeker Predator 115 has a raised wheel house and full fly-bridge, which adds to the challenge of shipping such a sizable, tall boat. This Predator became the largest boat to be transported under-deck on a container vessel which helped to ensure its safety and protection from the elements in transit. Floating cranes were used to load the 135-ton yacht from the water to the container vessel enroute to Hong Kong. The second yacht, a Sunseeker Predator 130, was shipped directly to Hong Kong on a general cargo ship, or break bulk vessel to reduce its transit time and protect it from other cargo onboard. The 145-ton Sunseeker yacht was loaded onto a Peters & May custom-made cradle, lifted by the ship's own gear and shipped to Hong Kong, where it was discharged directly into the water.
