New Model: Oryx 46 Fly

Presented as a project in 2008 Oryx presents its latest model, the 46 Fly what is a very economic to run three cabin flybridge motor cruiser. The exterior styling of the 46 Fly can also be deemed to be the best looking of the orange Oryx brand, which makes part of the Gulf Craft Group of boat builders. Accommodation of the 46 Fly is a three cabin lower deck, with two shower heads, and owners suite to fore. The main deck is a split level with saloon looking astern, and galley, dining table, and helm station on the raised area. Project: Doride 72

While the market is still in very challenging waters it is still my surprise to see today new brands with a very ambitious project of a line of sport yachts from 72 to 112 feet. Doride Yacht from Milan is such a builder and presents its first project of a sport yacht with an invisible flybridge of 72 feet. The Doride 72 is a interesting design although on the exterior architect Coppo from Messina, Sicily responsible for the project has been inspired a little too much by another Italian brand from the Adriatic sea. But the difference is in the details to see and while the Doride may be a bit similar to something else, the new company offers some unique touches like the four cabin lower deck plus a two person crew cabin aft, a two level main deck layout which looks coming from a motor yacht, and the still not so easy to find on a 21 metres sport yacht invisible flying bridge. The fly offers a central helm station for two persons, a bench seat, and a central wide sun pad. Power for the Doride 72 is twin MAN 1550hp in a Vee drive shaft configuration which should give an estimated top speed of 36 knots. Construction will be with environment friendly infusion resin method.

New Model: Bayliner 285 Cruiser

A brand which lately is bringing newer better looking models is Bayliner, which presents its new 285 Cruiser. Measuring just a couple of inches in overall length above its designation the 285 Cruiser represents the new challenge for the 2011 model year for a brand which from a certain point of view pioneered mass boat production. The 285 Cruiser has sweet lines, and as usual to Bayliner offers spacious comfortable areas both inside and out, this coupled with a competitive price. Interior accommodation is for three double beds which sleeps six, a galley, and a shower head. The largest of the beds seems to be the one located to mid ship. You can also so to say extend the length of your Bayliner, by ordering it with the extended bathing platform, this adding more space to stern and a safe place to stow a tender while underway. Power is a standard single petrol gas engine of a Mercruiser 300hp with stern drive giving a not bad top speed of 32 knots. If you want more to this you can get the optional 375hp unit.
Technical Data:
LOA - 8.71 m (28.7ft)
LOA with optional extended platform - 9.5 m

Project: Vicem 78 Cruiser

Vicem Yachts from Turkey heads into the fall of the 2010 European show season with a world debut on the horizon of the 78 Cruiser project, which I imagine is a further refinement of the 75. The new 78 Cruiser epitomizes the three hallmarks of every Vicem yacht: exuding a classic look of timeless elegance, exemplifying the ideals for craftsmanship, and a commitment to customization. But with this classic 25 metres Vicem has undergone a subtle yet sophisticated makeover with a number of new refinements, thanks to the fourteen person in house design team, the 78 Cruiser is a classic with a contemporary twist. Many of the changes made aboard the 78 Cruiser appeal to more European tastes. The trademark interior high-gloss surfaces have given way to the understated beauty of satin-finish mahogany, accentuated by neutral-colored fabrics and the discerning use of leather appointments. Guests will also appreciate having more natural light stream in social areas through markedly larger windows. A bigger swim platform and sunpad area adorn the aft deck and flybridge, respectively. A hard top covering the flybridge helm station area is also standard. These contemporary twists are complemented by an updated exterior, which projects cleaner lines. Power arrangements are twin MAN 900hp Common Rail, which allow the 78 Cruiser to reach cruising and maximum speeds of 16 and 21 knots, respectively, and a range of 1200nm at 10 knots. The 78 Cruiser can welcome aboard twelve guests and three crew. Sleeping accommodations include a full-beam master amidships, a VIP stateroom at bow, and two guest staterooms all with en suite bathrooms.

Powerboat GPS - Siracusa Endurance Race

The 2010 season comes to an end again in the picturesque Siracusa. Considering that in early Spring we where without races this was a huge success for the World Powerboats Association the UIM, and all the teams involved. The Grand Prix of the Sea Series touched important parts of the Globe too: starting with the first ever race in Yalta Ukraine, followed by the classic in Malta, a recent missing fixture returning that of Poltu Quatu in the beautiful Sardinia, Bacoli in Naples which also missed for three years, and closed what is becoming also a unique setting in Siracusa in Sicily the biggest Island in the Med. The last round showed incredible power by those who came second in both class, which sends a message to the title winners for things to come next year. Today's race also offered calmer waters with the boat hitting incredible times but with the positions actually staying the same from the rough seas of yesterday.
Evolution
Supersport
22 Big Sergio show power taking both of the last rounds with the team doing incredible lap times some of which under the four minutes mark and the best being a 3:57,17. As Alfredo Amato said when the Outerlimits SV40 is running well, the others just have to follow, which means we are getting used to the package and to winning. With these results 22 Big Sergio end the 2010 season on second, a huge improvement from the fourth of two races ago, with a distance of just one from the third place, and two points from fourth. Another second for the Naples Fountain of 81 Karelpiu which showed good composure resulting in the best season ever for a rookie team taking a total of three wins. Incredible laps also from this team which was only fifteen seconds behind Big Sergio, and had the best of the weekend time at 3:57,05. Third place for 34 Seagull Chaudron, a rookie team with the 2009 championship winner boat which showed improved performance and also managed to win a race in Bacoli. A fourth for the new 2010 Supersport World Championship winners 38 Baia Attolini, which I admit after they took Powerpole on Friday I did accept better results to this. A fifth for the Yanmar diesel powered 06 Jolly Drive which in this last four races showed good results, better lap times, and the always important reliability. With this they also overtake the sunken in Poltu Quatu Spirit of Belgium, finishing the season in fifth. Sixth place for Kenon Cafe the Racing Project hull winner of 2007, and 08 titles. A last place and again two laps late for what is the good looking and interesting wider to the usual Zeta hull powered by FPT diesels 18 F.Di Cersare Riscaldamenti. Sadly again no participation for this last round from the fast Donzi of 26 Team 26, and the new Pantera 08 Asia 2011-15.

Improve-it = Mulder 59 Convertible

Mulder Shipyard in the Netherlands has just recently delivered a new 59 Convertible ‘Soft Top’ version. This latest launching improves on its predecessor with latest demanded equipment features as a fully automated convertible hood especially developed for the Mulder 59 Convertible, Seakeeper stabiliser system which uses a gyro for optimal stability both underway and at anchor, and hydraulically adjustable trim flaps designed for optimal regulation of the trim angle. Like its predecessors, the new Mulder 59 Convertible is built fully in aluminium and is powered by twin Volvo 575hp engine which give a top speed of 24 knots and a cruising of around 20 knots. Being built of alloy you can say that each Mulder is in reality a one off construction and this 59 Convertible further proves that. The yacht’s hull has been painted in a metallic bronze that combines with stainless steel details such as a rubbing strake and decorative air intake frames. The exclusive character of the yacht is underlined by her high-gloss teak bulwarks. The side decks and the swimming platform have Esthec decks, while the aft deck features a comfortable seating area with modern outdoor upholstery and an automatic high-low table.

New Model: Four Winns V475

Not a real new model but Four Winns recently updated its V458 flagship, now designated the V475. Being at it, as Four Winns recently updated all its line model names, the V475 got increased a few lengths with a large extended bathing platform with high low movement. This surely makes the hard top sport cruiser V475 with the longest platform in this size, which can be interesting for those wanting a second entertainment area to fill with deck chairs, or handling a large water toy over it. The V475 is full of gizmo's, you can also have two pop up flat television in the outside cockpit. One of these staying behind the two person helmsman settee is a thirty inch affair and is optional. Interior accommodation is for four plus two berths in two double cabins and the convertible sofa. The owners suite is to fore, and a twin at mid ship. The interior galley as any US boat is large and is of L-shape. Power is from twin Volvo 435hp IPS600 propulsion.

Powerboat GPS - Siracusa Sprint Race

Siracusa presented itself with similar conditions to the previous Powerpole day for Round nine of the World Championship race of the Grand Prix of the Sea series. The weather was tight in a moderate to rough sea state with waves of an average one metre in height making this unique course actually more challenging to what normally is. Today's race was also characterized by a dominion from start to finish in both the classes.
Evolution
Supersport
Team Al&Al and 22 Big Sergio continue to build results and after the first win in Poltu Quatu continue to show incredible power taking a second race of the season, here dominating from start to finish. The lap times of the Big Sergio Outerlimits SV40 where also incredible with a best of 4:01,80, three with four minutes two seconds mark, and all accept for the final lap under four minutes ten seconds mark. Rookie team 81 Karelpiu show their growing confidence too taking another podium with the Fountain having less to a minute distance from the Outerlimits powerboat. The best lap of the Fountain was a 4:03,41 which comes as the fifth better lap of the circuit, all better results being done by 22 Big Sergio. Third place for the 2010 season rookie drivers but 2009 World Championship boat Seagull Chaudron. Another good fourth place with less to two minutes distance from the first for the Yanmar diesel powered 06 Jolly Drive. Fifth for the 2007, and 08 champion 41 feet Chaudron hull of Kenon Cafe here making part of the Italian Championship teams. A sixth worst place, which comes to fifth in World Championship challengers for this season for 38 Baia Attolini. Was it too much celebrations for the Italian team who took World title two races in advance? A last place with a two laps delay for the FPT diesel powered Zeta build 18 F. Di Cesare Riscaldamenti.

New Model: Sunseeker 40 Metre Yacht

Thanks to one of the forum members at YBW we can show you exclusive pictures of Sunseeker new flagship, the 40 Metre Yacht. The Poole boat builder effort in always presenting bigger sizes has to be appreciated, considering the fact that the last months at Sunseeker where very difficult indeed. But that's not to say the builders order book is empty, as in the bigger super sizes of 24 metres plus its if filled as ever with a total of 58 in build boats averaging 28 metres in length in as of this year. The 40 Metre Yacht is a three deck super yacht based on the 37 adding length to the hull, and a much more cleaner profile. Personally I always think the 37 free board looked a bit low with the three deck super structure above appearing bulky. The 40 Metre Yacht follows the last year presented 130 Predator with the balconies concept. The 40 Metre having two; in the master suite on the main deck, and another on the saloon. With the standard plan accommodation is for a total of 10 guests in five staterooms all with private heads. Master suite is located on the main deck, and two identical VIP are located to mid ship. Crew berths is for eight members below, plus a double captains cabin behind the helm on the upper deck. Power is for two engines with a total of 6362hp which should give a maximum of 24 knots. Range is for 1500 nautical miles at 10 knots.

Powerboat GPS - Siracusa Powerpole

Sadly we are at the start of the final buoy of the 2010 Powerboat GPS Season, and just like 09 we finish the races in the magnificent Siracusa setting, what is a natural harbour. The weather looks nice and sunny, but winds are force four with gusts of five meaning waves of an average height of a one metre and a half. This final setting finds itself with World title already taken for grabs in Bacoli for both the classes, but there is still a European, and Italian championship to take for some. The pictures shown on the Facebook GPS fan page show also some teams who missed from Bacoli returning to race in Siracusa. Which is good news for the spectators. But I also think that these teams will use the fifth Grand Prix of the Season to fine tune the boats for the coming 2011.
EVOLUTION
Furnibo won its first race here last year, and a power pole was also taken. So how about starting to think for the missed title by doing whats best for the Belgian team Fountain which is going faster to all by a margin of more to fourteen seconds. Second for the 2009 and 2006 Evolution champions of OSG Racing Team with the Outerlimits SV43 88 SNAV-Kiton. A third for 2010 World Champions 60 Metamarine which surprisingly missed a Power Pole this year, and in this occasion was late by 27 seconds. Surely they are not bothered about this, having in replacement taken a title. A good fourth for the 43ft Chaudron 55 Ukrainian Spirit, with only a gap of a bit more to two seconds from Metamarine. A fifth for the Vector 77 Lucas Oil with over a second distance from 55 Ukrainian Spirit, and 31 seconds from the first. Sixth place for the returned other Fountain of 47 Silverline, which had a similar time but twenty five decimals of a seconds slower to Lucas Oil. Surprisingly the Fountain, and 88 SNAV-Kiton separated the followers by quite a distance in this Powerpole. Another headline for this class was also the separation of Luca Fornelli Fendi from Cangiano and his OSG Racing Team. Luca used to run the fast Cigarette Fantastic One in Evolution class in 2008, and 09 so my mind is already thinking of the return of this very fast boat for 2011. We will see!
SUPERSPORT
38 Baia Attolini 2010 World Champions and there 38 feet Donzi had a miss hit of a few points for a title here last year, so how about making for this by taking the Powerpole of day one in Siracusa. Less to a second late and surprise second place for the diesel Albatro 06 Jolly Drive which is showing improving results and performance in the last part of the season. Third but a whisker from the fore runners for the always fast open cockpit Super Sport class Fountain 81 Karelpiu. I am sure the Neapolitan team after a very good rookie first season will start to think for a championship strategy for the coming year. Return to racing after Poltu Quatu for hull one of the 41 feet Chaudron 44 Kenon Cafe which has two written titles, placed fifth a two seconds plus delay. Another return also after Poltu Quatu for the Italian made very interesting diesel powered ZL build 18 F. Di Cesare Riscaldamenti which placed last with a 31 seconds delay. No start for two fast boats; the Outerlimits 22 Big Sergio, and Chaudron 2009 champion 43 Seagull Chaudron.

Project: Atlantis 48

Atlantis presents the new 48 project which sets its new course challenging itself and the competition. The 48 which will launch in a couple of days in Cannes replaces the seven years produced successful 47 which was a design of Righini and the previous project team headed by Angelo Gobbi. The 48 is a project trusted to the new company Neo Design headed by Fabio Salvetti and Marco Biaggi both coming from a previous experience with Officina Italiana Design, Riva designer office for a couple of decades now. If the words used for the adverts We Are Open had to be true for the previous models they surely take a new meaning in this very aggressive but at the same time clean looking Sport Cruiser. Neo Design challenge the most of the main stream builders with a low super structure, and moderately high free board hull incorporating a very open hard top. The roomy cockpit concept uses similar themes as seen on the bigger Atlantis 54 with a central sun pad aft, L-shaped settee, galley wet bar, chaise lounge, and helm station to starboard. Below accommodation is for two separate cabins with owners stateroom being a full beam mid ship, a VIP suite to fore, galley, and saloon. The Atlantis 48 will have a modified Vee closing in a 15 degrees dead rise aft specifically studied in its waterline lengths and angles which powered by twin Cummins 600hp should give a 35 knots top speed.

Improve-it = Menorquin MY 160

Menorquin presents an improved edition of the MY 160 to which the firm has introduced some new features. The interior has been updated with a new line of furnishings, in keeping with the classic aesthetics and nautical theme which distinguish Menorquin traditional yachts; as well as incorporating considerable improvements such as the installation of independent showers in each of the two bathrooms, and more ample adult size beds in the third cabin. The exterior of the MY 160 2011 edition stands out with a renewed stylized design of the hardtop, which accentuates the harmony and elegance of the yacht; one piece lateral windows with improved closing mechanisms have also been installed. All of these attractive improvements extol the extraordinary habitability and comfort of this craft. The improved Menorquin MY 160 goes also in line with the recently signed collaboration agreement Menorca builder did with Simrad. The first MY 160 unit – 2011 edition has been fitted with a complete marine electronic system, with the latest technology from Simrad Yachting: a NSE 12 navigation system, BR24 Broadband Radar, AP24 Autopilot, VHF RS82 radio, WR20 remote commander and the recently launched SonicHub sound system.

Project: Tiara 4500 Sovran

Tiara presents the project for a new 4500 Sovran set to replace the 4300 model. As usual to this high quality renowned US builder, the new Tiara 4500 Sovran offers smart masculine looks with a mix of practical items set to challenge the best of them in this size. That's not to say there is no smooth touches in the design, which the 4500 seems to be full but it surely is different and less aggressive in the looks department then to most of the European competitors. The 4500 Sovran as the picture above shows delivers a very elegant smooth stance with its straight shear line relax posture. Below the 4500 Sovran will have a two cabins both with private shower heads interior, an L-shaped saloon which converts to an extra double berth, and an L-shaped galley. The exterior aft deck keeps a two level split layout with an aft one reserved for entertaining and dining, and the one above having the helm to starboard, L-shaped settee to port, and an exterior wet bar which is small compared to recent European offers. But the interior galley surely makes up for this being one of the larger in this size. The 4500 Sovran has also been thought out for after factory fitting out of a hydraulic bathing platform lift systems, and washer dryer combo systems in the saloon. The clever items are a big list from the sun pads inclined back rests on the fore deck, to the aft storage trunk which apart having loads of space transforms to a platform seat, the transom grill, the chart flat with optional hiding TV with DVD, and the 32 inch TV below. Power choice is a secret so far although we do know that they will be twin diesels which will move this twelve tons moderate Vee seventeen degrees dead rise aft sport cruiser.

Riva continue to present exclusive limited Aquariva versions, and after the Cento which marked the first hundred build models, and the just launched Marc Newson, the builder from Sarnico adds another unique jewel with the surprise presentation of a Gucci version. Founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921, Gucci is in the last decades one of the most renowned global made in Italy fashion houses. The Aquariva Gucci is a celebration to the fashion house ninetieth birthday and was desired for this occasion by the company's Creative Director Frida Giannini. The Aquariva Gucci will be a limited production model and represents the original version with some added details which mark the exclusivity signature. The details are paramount to this new version; the fiberglass hull painted in Gucci's unique hue white color, waterproof fabric which covers the seat and sundeck will have the Guccissima print, bed upholstery in Gucci white cotton, Gucci green-red-green web detailing which edges the floating line, unique green crystal windshield, and last is a series of Riva by Gucci accessories. Project: Beneteau 44 Swift Trawler

Beneteau replaces the model which premiered its Explorer Cruiser range the 2004 launched 42 Swift Trawler with a new 44 feet project. The 44 Swift Trawler builds on the attributes that made the range a popular choice for couples or families who are passionate about boating. As a symbol of escapism this latest model concedes nothing of the range’s proven performance, but adds a new concept of space: with more spacious environments, and natural light. Apart the greater and leaner windows the 44 also adds more space inside, and outside with the interior now having a two cabins twin shower head lower deck. The living main deck is also distinctively more spacious with its single step split level format offering a larger C-shaped galley, and lounge. The flybridge while seemingly similar in space and format to the old 42, also offers an extra co-driver seat, as the does the aft deck now offering an L-shaped settee to port side. Power is from twin 300hp engines.

Powerboat GPS - Siracusa Preview

We arrive to the last turn of the 2010 season for the Powerboat Grand Prix of the Sea, in the traditional atmosphere of Syracuse on the largest island of the Mediterranean that is Sicily. Unlike 2009 the stakes of the World title have already been decided, but that is not to say there is no remaining prices and competition to be held in the last way point, with European and Italian Championship still at stake.
60 Metamarine Forseti&Sguardi in Evolution, and 38 Baia Attolini in Supersport decided the 2010 World championship two rounds and a Grand Prix in advance, thanks to always consistent results and reliability. Now the two teams who also lead the European and Italian championship will head to this last round hoping to make a complete hat trick of the 2010 season, which will make it for them a year to remember, and surely a hard one to beat. But I am sure that the close competition of the other following fast boats in both the classes will make it all hard for them so that they also can celebrate the last round of the season with a celebration of there own.
EVOLUTION:
Pos. Boat Name - Team Name ~ Points
1. 60 Metamarine Foresti&Sguardi - Metamarine Corse ~ 151
An impressive season with reliability and a worst third place. Unstoppable.
2. 88 SNAV-Kiton - OSG Racing Team ~ 86

3. 33 Furnibo - 2B1 Racing Team ~ 79
Again shows speed in Bacoli. But for a title fast is not enough. Ask Metamarine in 2008!
4. 77 Lucas Oil - Scandinavian Offshore Challenge ~ 57
A good third in round 7. But still not consistent enough. Work to do for 2011.
5. 66 Cranefields Wine - Searex Racing Team ~ 56
Another second in Bacoli. Surely an improving performer for 2010.
6. 55 Ukrainian Spirit - Ukrainian Spirit ~ 48
Rough seas in Bacoli make it close to less then 10 secs. Missed buoy spoiled a result.
7. 47 Silverline Racing - Silverline ~ 6
After finishing a race and collecting six points they missed Bacoli.
SUPERSPORT:
1. 38 Baia Attolini - Baia Attolini ~ 146
Consistency and four wins with a worst fourth place, this is how you take a title.
2. 43 Seagull Chaudron - Ukrainian Spirit ~ 95
The 2009 Champion won a race, but problems on Sunday stopped the challenge.
3. 81 Karelpiu - RG87 Racing Team ~ 81
For a rookie to take two wins is very good. Shows the quality of a Fountain.
4. 22 Big Sergio - Al &Al Racing Team ~ 80
Takes Powerpole and leads half the first race, but then a mishap stops all.
5. 17 Spirit of Belgium - Spirit of Belgium ~ 49
After the terrible accident in Poltu Quatu it was expected not to see them.
6. 06 Jolly Drive - Jolly Drive Racing Team ~ 48
Diesel and Albatro show good bad weather handling. Can they repeat a podium.
7. 26 Team 26 - Team 26 ~ 21
They missed Bacoli. Hope to see them soon, for what is a fast boat with title chances.
8. 08 Asia 2011-15 - Ocean Dragon Racing Team ~ 5
After a good 2nd in the UIM Endurance in Cowes, have to see more of the new Pantera.

New Model: Azimut 64 Flybridge

Presenting itself as a surprise unveiling during the Azimut Yachting Gala in house boat show at the start of Summer which now is in its fourth edition was the 64 Flybridge. This new model will replace the since 2002 produced 62, which in its eight year production run was produced in an impressive two hundred plus units. A hard to beat success, but none the less not impossible. The 64 takes a lot of the features of the 62 and improves on them, adding modernity more glassed surfaces, and a leaner profile. The squared off bow, and extended bathing platform with high low movement introduced on latest Azimut's since 2004 has also been included. Interior wise the 64 offers a three double cabins all with en-suite lower deck. A two person crew cabin with shower is located aft. A split level saloon offers the usual Azimut layout with C-shaped sofa upon entrance, dining table, and galley to fore. Azimut keeps also evolving its exterior spaces, with the aft deck C-shaped settee which converts to a sun lounger, a free astern part on the flybridge ideally suited for free deck chairs, and the usual sun worshippers area to fore. On the technical part the 64 improves with a carbon fibre reinforced infusion resin construction, and a CE A certification. Power for the Azimut 64 is twin Cats 1150hp which should give a 33 knots top speed.

New Model: Wayachts 66 Wake

Wayachts follows its first model the 46 and 48 Wake, with the launching of the 66 Wake which in this exclusive we are showing you in sea trials in the bay of Naples, preparing itself before going for its World debut at the Genoa boat show in October. Just as the 48 Wake, the 66 Wake is designed by Francesco Rolla for the lines and Stefano Milanesi for the technical part, keeping in line with the family feeling of this Italian builder which has a plan of launching three more models in the near future. The 66 Wake follows some basic concepts we saw on the much acclaimed 46/48 model, like the all around deck, and the use of Volvo IPS pods propulsion. The main deck is full of new concepts especially to what regards the living part inside, and its unique plan with side entrances, a lounging aft, and central pilot station to fore. Another innovation here is in the glassed surfaced of the hard top and the sides which can be adjusted to let or block the sunlight completely. Below a choice for a three or four cabins lower deck, plus an optional one person crew cabin is available. Standard power is from twin Volvo 700hp with IPS pods which give a 36 knots top speed, and a cruise of 32 to this loaded but still light 27 tons Sport Yacht. A more powerful twin 900hp Volvo should give top speeds of around 40 knots.

34th Americas Cup - New AC72 Class and Protocol Announced

The reading on the Americas Cup website says that the World's oldest Sports Trophy has always pioneered yacht design, so this time it is to move on from the mono hulls, to the cats we have seen in the beginning of this year 33rd Deed of Gift Challenge.
Must admit that I have confused feelings about this. My inner soul still misses the mono hulls, and the races we have seen from 1999 to 2007, in the 30th to the 32nd edition races. Another note is that mono are used for all match racing events all over the globe. But, it is fair to say the speed of the cats in the Deed of Gift race was very impressive, and may be with two similar craft things will also be closer then to what we saw from the BMWOracle dominated 33rd edition race.
Here is some specification for the new AC72 Class as outlined on the Americas Cup web site:
34th Americas Cup AC72
LOA - 22.0 meters (72 feet) Beam - 14.0 meters (46 feet) Displacement - 7,000 kilograms (15,500 pounds) Wingsail area – 300 square meters (3,229 square feet)
Ease of assembly: The AC72 can be assembled in two days and disassembled in one to accommodate the shipping schedule for the America’s Cup World Series events. Platform configuration: Either a conventional layout catamaran, one with cockpits and helmsman stations in both hulls, or teams will have an option of designing a central pod to centralize all the wing and sail-handling controls. Wingsail or soft sails: The AC72 class rule allows for wingsail and soft sail options to promote racing through a broad range of conditions. Power source: Engines are banned but electrically driven valves to control the wingsail might be permitted. Rudders and daggerboards: The rule limits a maximum of four underwater appendages, two rudders and two daggerboards. To reduce costs, standardized, one-design daggerboards are being considered. Construction materials and methods: Limits on high-modulus carbon-fiber have been put in place for hull construction. The class rule outlines a minimum outside skin weight of 600 grams per square meter, similar to other racing boats of that size. Core materials may either be foam or honeycomb. High-modulus carbon will be allowed in the wingsail, to add stiffness and strength. Onboard cameramen will be carried during racing.
*********
The protocol drafted by Defender; Golden Gate Yacht Club, and Challenger; Clud Nautico di Roma was also announced.
Highlights include:
- New, exciting class of boat, the AC72 wingsail catamaran
- New annual World Series starting in 2011
- New Youth America’s Cup from 2012
- Transformed media for television broadcast and online
- Shorter, action-packed race format
- Race delays minimized
– new boat and venues with reliable wind
- Independent race management and fully empowered International Jury to avoid show stopping disputes
- Effective cost cutting measures
- Branding freedom for teams
- One global website for all team and racing content

Project: Metamarine TNT48 Replica

After years of announcing it Metamarine boss Marco Penessi finally presents the production version of his TNT46 Corsa, with the TNT48 Replica. A machine which comes from his yard in San Benedetto del Tronto in Italy, and is build around winning diesel power which just a couple of days ago gave the World Evolution title to the Corsa version against the very challenging and renowned US petrol powered units. This is the second time Metamarine takes the title, after doing so in 2004 for the speed limited Super Sport class. Now comes a first in Evolution class, after five years of hard work and improvements on the 46 Corsa hull. Something rare in recent years from a European boat builder, but the TNT48 Replica brings the baggage of experience of the competition from the top Evolution class, with a fast diesel powerboat offering cruising amenities for four persons. The hull shape is a two step with the last of these flowing air to the aft in order to help lift the boat. Another rare detail is the transmission which is also build in house by Metamarine, what is a surface drive with a unique combination of turning and trimming shafts, and a central single rudder similar from a certain point of view to the old Levi Drive Unit. Construction is of sandwich Kevlar type, guaranteeing the best strength to weight combination. Also marking a return to production units are the engines which will be from twin Isotta Fraschini of 850hp. Isotta Fraschini was a legendary name for light weight high powered diesel units in the eighties. These twin diesel units should give a top speed of 80 knots, and a 280 nautical miles range.

New Model: Sessa C 54 Sport Coupe

Basing itself on the hull and water lines of the 54 Fly introduced in the fall of last year, Sessa and designer Christian Grande presents the C 54 Sport Coupe, what is an amazing glass filled open views new model. I might be biased saying this as I just saw a couple days ago the flagship C68, and that is a good looking flagship Sessa introduced last year. This model is very similar to it on the looks department, and this surely includes the wow factor and unique color scheme. There is also a detail which I particularly like and Sessa brochure and press release does not tell, which comes from much bigger boats that is the joining of the hull and upper structure coming by the shear line. This apart giving a more bigger boat looks, gives also a much neater approach unheard in most production boat of this size, unless these look traditional. The C 54 Sport Coupe follows modern trends of a fully enclosed hard top Sport Yacht with a three cabin, two heads accommodation, and a very spacious L-shaped galley located below. The owners suite is to mid ship, VIP to fore, and a double bunk is in the middle of the lower deck. An optional crew cabin for one is available to mid ship. The main deck is a single level and here you have an L-shaped sofa, dining table to port, and helm station. The exterior is all about enjoying the nature, sun and nice weather. I particularly like the aft sun pad which extends as if on a float, the spacious aft deck, the fore peak lounger, and not to forget the all around deep side decks which again feel of a much bigger yacht. Tender launching is also made easy thanks to a bathing platform with high low hydraulic movement. Power is from twin Volvo 700hp with IPS second generation larger pods, which gets you on the plane at 15 knots, cruises you at 25 knots, and reaches a 34 knots max speed.
Technical Data:
LOA - 16.20 m (53.8ft)
Hull Length - 14.70 m
Waterline Length - 12.70 m
Beam - 4.70 m
Draft - 1.40 m
Displacement - 21 t dry and unloaded
Fuel Capacity - 2 x 1000 l
Water Capacity - 566 l
Accommodation - 6 berths in 3 cabins
Max Persons - 14
Engines - 2 x Volvo IPS900 700hp
Propulsion - Volvo IPS900 forward looking dual propeller pods
Speed - 25 knots cruise, 34 knots max
Hull - Polledric Vee with 14.5 degrees dead rise aft
Range - 11 hours @ 25 knots

Project: Overmarine Mangusta 148 Oceano

Overmarine Mangusta the very famous builder of 72 to 165 feet open hard top sport yachts finally show some renderings of its two years ago announced 148 Oceano. For the Italian Viareggio Overmarine founded in the eighties this project touches new challenges with the 148 Oceano representing its first build having a displacement hull, and three decks. The 148 Oceano just as the open hard top is to be designed by Stefano Righini, architect for Overmarine Mangusta since the early nineties. Righini presented a classic looking exterior with a standard interior plan offering five cabins. The owners stateroom will be located on the main deck, two VIP suites to mid ship below, and two double guest cabins below. A total of five double crew cabins are to be found, including the captains cabin on the upper deck just behind the helm station. As these renderings also show the 148 Oceano will also offer the latest of hydraulic opening balconies and terraces, these being the latest fashion to capture the modern super yachts. So far we can see two of these, one on the lower deck, and a second on the main deck by the owners suite. Twin MTU of 1523hp should give a top speed of 15 knots, and a cruise of 12 knots this last delivering an estimated range of 4000 nautical miles.

New Model: Galeon 385 HTS

Since boat building became a production entity back in the nineteen sixties, the brands we admired at some time or another have since then created a model which sets it out away from the competition and makes it become a legendary status. While in recent years this has become more difficult due to the World becoming smaller and faster thanks to the Internet, these do still exist. I have no doubt on the success of the 385 HTS but I also think that this model can become a legendary one for the Polish Galeon who I add in the last decade with the help of Tony Castro and other people has done an awesome effort to become a prime power cruiser and yacht builder, and the results are for everyone to see. While Galeon has produced some really nice models in recent years I think the 385 HTS diminutive for Hard Top Sport is a step forward which the others will have to follow. After the release of the project in the early part of 2010 huge efforts have gone into preparing the 385 HTS just in time for Cannes and from here with the Inbuild section we showed you some bits and peaces of this. The 385 HTS is a two cabin both with en-suite shower heads sport cruiser. Other lower deck comforts will be a well sized L-shaped galley, and a spacious C-shaped saloon with a huge TV looking to fore on the pictured hull one. Outside the 385 HTS is full of surprises not just for its one level layout offering a single helm seat to starboard, relaxing two person chaise lounge, C-shaped settee to port, and exterior galley but for what it has underneath. In fact the 385 HTS unbelievable to see has also a tender garage under the C-shaped settee, and if this was not enough you can also order an extended bathing platform where you can carry another extra water toy. But as many will tell you the difference is in the details and the 385 HTS has plenty of these, mostly coming from the amount of glassed surfaces used in form of skylight on the foredeck, the side window, the hardtop, but also in the sliding twin berth in the mid ship cabin which transforms it to a double, and in the quality of the fittings over all. Galeon's good looking 385 HTS will have six engine choices from Volvo and Volkswagen starting with a 225hp up to the large option of 370hp, this last giving max speed of 40 knots to the Tony Castro designed hull.
Technical Data:
LOA - 12.26 m (40.2ft)
LOA - 13.46 m including optional extended bathing platform
Hull Length - 11.99 m
Beam - 3.90 m
Draft - 1.05 m
Displacement - 12850 kg full load with large D6 370hp, 9640 kg light
Fuel Capacity - 950 l
Water Capacity - 450 l
Accommodation - 4 + 2 berths
Max Persons - 10
Engines - 2 x Volvo D4 225hp, D4 300hp, D6 330hp, D6 370hp,
Volkswagen TDI 225hp, TDI 265hp
Propulsion - Volvo DPH stern drive
Speed - 40 knots max with 370hp

Project: American Tug 395

Tomco Marine Group owner and builder of the American Tugs explorer cruiser and yacht line presents its latest project, the 395 set to launch officially in the early part of 2011. The builder from La Conner, Washington USA says the 395 will feature a narrow-body hull with an elongated forward trunk cabin, and a true twin cabin interior arrangement with the companies signature full size en-suite head & shower off the owners cabin. The 395 will have an over all length of 42 feet plus, and be powered by a single 380hp engine by Cummins or Volvo. Construction is for a single skin solid hull laminate for a weight of just short of 11,000 kg or the more US term of 24,000 lbs.

Improve-it = American Tugs 365

American Tugs update its 34 for the 2011 model year, not only by changing designation which now considers length over all and becoming the 365, but by introducing new elements enriching this explorer cruiser value. The designation change also affects other models with the 41 becoming the 435, and 49 the 525. Now arrived to 140 hulls the 34 model has been a huge success in the ten years story of Tomco American Tug story. The face lift for the 2011 badged 365 includes a pair of single panoramic window in the salon, galley for open views without vertical mullions. Several upgraded standard features are also incorporated into the American Tug 365. Designed by Lynn Senour the American Tug 365 sleeps four in two cabins, plus an extra double berth coming from the convertible saloon. Power is a standard 330hp, or optional Volvo 370hp, and Cummins 380hp. With the optional Volvo engine speed is an 18 knots max.

Engine: Cat C18 ACERT 930hp

Building off years of success with the Cat C18 ACERT marine engine, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is announcing an additional engine rating for the in line engine to expand the power range available for global customers. The 930mhp (685bkW) rating for the C18 ACERT propulsion engine provides best in class torque to maximize acceleration and speed. Along with the 1015 and 1150 mhp ratings currently offered on the C18 ACERT engine, the additional rating will meet current industry demand for high power and is one of several marine engines Caterpillar will bring to the market over the next few years. Backed by more than 80 years of engineering excellence, the C18 ACERT propulsion engine is an in line 6, four-stroke, 18.1-liter diesel engine, which is electronically governed, turbo-charged and after-cooled. With a smaller, narrower package, customers will notice the improved ease of service with more room between engines compared to the existing engine ratings. The smaller footprint will also open additional opportunities where hull space prevented the installation of a C18 ACERT engine. A crucial feature of the new engine rating is the best in class power and torque, which results in faster speeds, better acceleration, and overall class leading cruising performance. Another important benefit is an improvement in overall fuel economy compared to other engine packages. In fact, compared to the existing C18 ACERT ratings like the 1150 mhp engine, the new 930 mhp rating will increase fuel efficiency upwards of 25%, which will be well received by customers. Additionally, the C18 ACERT engine will continue to be compliant with all major global emissions regulations, including IMO, EPA Tier 2, and EU 94/25/EC Recreational Craft Directive. Along with the improvements to performance, power and torque, all Cat C18 ACERT marine engines come with an excellent standard warranty, available for up to ten years after initial purchase of the engine. In addition to the standard five year warranty, Extended Service Coverage can be purchased to extend the overall protection of the engine.

New Model: Windy 40 Maestro

Windy presents its latest new model the 40 Maestro set to fill a void left between the recently introduced 44 Chinook, and the long standing 37 Grand Mistral. Born as a 39 Sport Cruiser project in end of 2009, the 40 Maestro is a high performance machine with an interior offering two double cabins, a single shower head, saloon, and galley. An owners cabin is to fore, while a guest twin is to mid ship. interior finishing follows recent trends of Matt lacquered oak wood, with a variety of choice for the upholstery. The exterior is less spacious and extravagant to recent similar boats, though it still remains comfortable offering a C-shaped settee to starboard, small wet bar opposite, two person co-pilots seat, and helm station. As expected the 40 Maestro continues the transition of Windy to lighter and environment friendly vacuum resin infusion method of construction this delivering a light displacement of just 7.5 tons. Power will be two engine and propulsion choices, starting from a standard twin 300hp with stern drives up to an optional of 370hp. You also can get an optional more manoeuvring friendly IPS400 twin Volvo 300hp choice. With the big twin 370hp engine choice the 40 Maestro reaches a fast 44 knots top speed, and a 34 knots cruise.

Project: Princess 42

Princess presents the second series of its 42 what has become a very high selling model for the British builder in this size. The 42 in its first series generation has had a very rare for today's standards long run of seven years production. The major changes for the Princess 42 mark two are outside with the British design team adopting a lean and dynamic profile with wrap around windscreen and larger, sleeker windows and port lights. Think of the looks of the Princess 50, 54 or 62 here and you have it very similar in a smaller package. On the comfort side the changes are more subtle with Princess adding minimal space here and there to the two cabin two head plan. A visible change will be the teak table on the flybridge dinette, and what also looks a lightly larger second guest shower head below. Princess seem also to have introduced an option for a blue colored hull for the 42, which till I know and saw was not available on the now being replaced version. Power for the Princess 42 second generation is standard Volvo 370hp good for 29 knots max, and optional 435hp delivering an extra three knots of top end speed. www.princessyachts.com

New Model: Jeanneau NC11

A bit late in presenting this but after announcing project details in January pictures for the NC11 from Jeanneau where hard to come by. Launched by surprise in Dusseldorf the NC11 is a very inspirational model from Jeanneau aimed in a very competitive size challenging Scandinavian and Northern Europe builders, but due to its sport looks should also get attention down South in the Mediterranean waters. Designed by the usual Garroni who now takes care for nearly all Jeanneau power line, with concept by Premorel the NC11 is an enclosed sport cruiser but can transform and become very open thanks to the sunroof, side doors and fully opening four part patio door aft. Intelligent or shall we call them simple swiveling seats on the main deck also make the NC11 change its areas from dining to chilling in seconds, bring the inside to join with the aft deck. The NC11 also surprises for having big boat comforts built in like the glassed door by the helm station which leads to the side deck. Down below is a two cabin plan with owners double berth to fore, and a twin cabin for guest to starboard. It also has a very large head with separate shower. Power is from what I think are small twin 200hp Volvo, and so far after nine months from the release no bigger engine options seemed to be mentioned.
Technical Data:
LOA - 10.85 m (35.7ft)
Hull Length - 10.55 m

Project: Ferretti 720

Ferretti Yachts seem to have made 2010 as one of abundant changes in its range of flybridge cruisers and yachts, and here the renowned Italian brand presents its latest fourth project of the year with the 720. Designed by Zuccon for its super structure with hull by Ferretti Advanced Yacht Technology the 720 is expected to launch in Spring 2011 and is a project of 22 metres in length and six of beam motor yacht. According to Ferretti brand manager Alessandro Tirelli it captures a lot of the looks and concept from this Spring launched 800 model. While Zuccon seems to have taken some ideas of the 800 like the lines of the coach roof I still see the 720 as a more aggressive machine and in this rendering it also shows the return to the Adriatic Sea based builder to low profiled upper structures as seen on past models. A design novelty seems also a stepped shear line which integrates with the main deck window at midships. I still remember when speaking to Italian yacht enthusiasts in the eighties, early nineties would tell me that any yacht that is not a convertible and has a reverse shear line is old or ugly. Whatever they said Zuccon being the master that he is in this department manages to make it look trendy and may be a new school will be returned here, although to be fair he already experimented with this on the little bit British looking 690 and 840 Altura models. The interior of the 720 continues Ferretti move with light colored woods as grey oak, joined with a brown-grey lacquer for all the details. A spit level saloon forms the living part separating the welcoming relaxing area with the dining, enclosed galley and helm to fore. The lower deck is a four owners and guest cabins affair. Owners stateroom is located to mid ship, VIP suite to bow, and two twin guest cabins in between. The crew lobby will be located aft with two cabins, laundry room, and a direct access to the engine room. Power will be from twin MTU 1381hp engines.

INBUILD ~ Galeon 385 HT Part 7 of 7

We end this seven part Inbuild series by showing you the stern with the logo of the nearly completed Galeon 385 HT. On front of this is a C-shaped settee and underneath it is a tender garage. This model now completed is heading down to Cannes for its World Preview, and the premises for this being a huge success are all there. Apart the good looks, which the 385 HT has loads of, this new twelve metre Galeon follows recent trends in this size and type by offering a two cabin two head interior, a unique exterior flash single level deck with tender garage, and a hard top. But that's not the most important thing, the 385 HTS which just received a name modification prior to launching of hull one now meaning Hard Top Sports has also solid bases with Tony Castro not only designing one of his best lookers up top but also doing as is his usual for all the recent Galeon fleet the Vee shape hull, or how the Italians call it the living part of this Sport Cruiser, that which is always guiding and gliding on the water.

Powerboat GPS - Bacoli Endurance Race

Going into the weekend very few would have imagined that the title would have been decided two rounds and a Grand Prix in advance. That is what happened in today's Round eight when both the no limit Evolution, and the open cockpit Supersport class titles where taken out for grabs. To my knowledge this is the first time it happens for Evolution, and the second in Supersport when in 2008 the 41 feet Chaudron powered by Mercury engines 43 Conam Yachts dominated the championship from start to finish winning all races of the series.
Evolution
A second place was enough for Pennesi and Montavoci and the 60 Metamarine Foresti & Sguardi to secure the 2010 World Championship two rounds, and a Grand Prix in advance. It's been a long one coming for Pennesi to take the Evolution title since in 2004 he took the Supersport top spot on an Offcourse Fabio Buzzi 41 feet designed diesel powered boat, and after that from 2005 competing in the bigger class. This triumph is also unique for having Diesel power the only boat in this class today, home built Variante drive, a hull also made in house, and last for the reliability and good results. With the 60 Metamarine always finishing a round, taking three wins, and the worst position being a podium of third. In Bacoli the 60 Metamarine second place with a deficit of less to seven seconds was also characterized by the fastest lap of the day of 3:00,83. A rewarding first place for the home Neapolitan team 88 SNAV-Kiton which made the local fans surely happy, and showed the challenging never give up skills of the 2009 champions. Another third, following a similar result in Poltu Quatu for 55 Ukrainian Spirit who seeing the lap times are still about ten seconds late against the top tier challengers. A retirement on the seventh lap for the USA Northern Europe boat with the longest title 77 Lucas Oil Scandinavian Challenge aka LOCOS. After showing good composure and an improvement in each Grand Prix the 66 Cranefields had to retire at the start lap. Did no start for the fast 33 Furnibo, cause of a broken crash box on the Saturday race.
Supersport
Two second places where enough for the Neapolitan 38 Baia Attolini and the 38 feet Donzi to secure the 2010 Supersport Class title two rounds and a Grand Prix in advance. It was three seasons of hard work and considering how this team was overcame by 44 Conam Yachts in 2008, just lost by a couple points to 43 Seagull Chaudron in 2009, it was nice to see them on the top of the class in a hard fought season with many close challengers. Again reliability was a very important factor for the Mercury racing, Arneson surface drives 38 feet Donzi hull, which I remind was also a 2006 Evolution champion with OSG when the speed limit was at 90 mph as today is in the Supersport class. A first place the second of the season for the open cockpit Fountain of 81 Karelpiu which make the Bacoli citizens very proud being the RG87 Team from the area. 81 Karelpiu did also the fastest lap of the day for the class with a 3:28,06. Another third, after the same result on Saturday for the Yanmar diesel powered forty feet Albatro powered 06 Jolly Drive. The Bacoli weekend was a good one for the only diesel powered boat in Supersport. A retirement for 43 Seagull Chaudron which follows its first win of the season with a disappointing stop on the first lap, and with it the chances of challenging for the 2010 World title in the last two rounds. The 22 Big Sergio did not start today race, after developing some problems on Saturday which the Team of Al&Al did not manage to fix.
