Improve-it = Heesen 50m YN 18650

Heesen has just launched hull number YN 18650 Project Boreas delivered on August twelve 2019, after rigorous sea trials in the North Sea in calm sea conditions with light winds and waves up to half a meter.  Named as m/y Erica this new 50 meter full aluminium motor yacht sports an ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form hull designed by Dutch hydro dynamics Van Oossanen and engineered by Heesen’s in-house naval architects. Project Boreas is powered by two MTU 1448hp each, and will offer the full suite of benefits the FDHF hull confers, including a fast but efficient cruising speed and a high degree of comfort.  Indeed, during the sea trials Project Boreas proved to be extremely quiet while also exceeding the contractual speed. She reached a top speed of 20 knots, and showed a range higher than the requirements laid out in her specifications. Thanks to large rudders and a powerful bow thruster, she is also very responsive when maneuvering in close quarters.  Frank Laupman of Omega Architects penned the exterior lines of this Heesen YN 18650 50 meter super yacht and he has created a contemporary profile that retains timeless cues. A gently reversed stem carries the bow to the upper deck line, creating a powerful forward profile which is balanced by elegant profile curves and tapered ends to the decks. A lack of fashion plates creates the illusion of suspended upper decks and hardtop, adding a sense of lightness to the design. Mark Whiteley worked closely with the owner to create a warm contemporary interior design, which features bespoke loose furniture on all exterior living spaces. Among many standout details of the interior, the main staircase will certainly make a strong impression on guests when boarding the yacht. The combination of mesmerizing geometry and precious materials such as a nickel mesh wall covering by French artist Sophie Mallebranche allow guests to move from the lower deck to the bridge deck in style.  YN 18650 is a brilliant illustration of how a discerning client can personalize the pre-engineered design platform of a hull already in construction, considerably shortening the delivery time while benefiting from the highest levels of Dutch quality in build and finish.

Project: Aicon 66

Aicon yachts is back, having the brand recently been purchased by two American investors.  Aicon yachts was a success story which characterized the first decade of the second millennium 2001 to 2012, in particular for the 56 and 64 Fly models, and over four hundred boats delivered in a production stint which lasted about ten years, and featured ten models in sizes from 52 up to 85 feet. Aicon return comes from a new 66 designed by Sergio Cutolo, a motor yacht currently in advanced project stages. For Sergio this is not the first collaboration with Aicon having in the past collaborated with the Sicilian yacht builder.  The 66 project is inspired by the 64 which was by many revered as the best Aicon model in the ten year history of the brand.  The hull shape of the Aicon 66 is indeed a direct derivation from the 64 with improvements going in the underwater sections to create a drier ride.  Another feature of the Aicon 66 will also be for flexible interior layout solutions.

A 23 meter explorer yacht titled m/y Clam Chowder with four persons onboard sank 25 nautical miles off the coast from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on the early morning time of Sunday fifteen December 2019.  Clam Chowder sent a distress call on channel sixteen via VHF radio on 05:22 morning time reporting that the yacht was badly sinking, with the bilge pump not being able to keep up with the entering water.  With the Coast Guard Sector San Juan receiving the call the yacht additionally reported losing power and listing to starboard at which point the captain ordered the crew to abandon the vessel.  The US Coast Guard then sent Borinquen MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered WPC-1104 to search for and rescue the boaters, while sending an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast for the sinking.  The Coast Guard helicopter eventually rescued the four boaters, transferring them to Air Station Borinquen where they were awaiting Customs and Border Protection and emergency medical personnel.  One of the four American boaters was also injured as he cut his fingers during the life raft release.
