New Model: Kadey-Krogen 52

Hull number one of the new Kadey-Krogen 52 departed Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on August 22 and is set to make its international debut in the Seattle Boats Afloat Show on Lake Union in September. The premiere comes just 18 months after the announcement of the new model.  Testimony to the Kadey-Krogen tagline; At Home on Any Sea," this first 52 has been purchased by a couple who are former professional mariners and graduates of two of the US most demanding merchant marine universities. The couple previously owned a Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea, and upgraded to the 52 when the design plans of the new model were announced last winter.  Building on the ten year success of the Kadey-Krogen 58, the 52 is poised to become the trawler yacht of choice because of her efficiency, comfort underway and her at home liveability. At home features include the fully covered aft deck, spacious saloon, galley fit for gourmet cooking complete with full-size Jenn-Air refrigerator and a four burner Viking range with oven. A weather-tight Dutch door provides direct access to the galley from the starboard side deck. Owners can choose from a three stateroom layout or two staterooms and a dedicated office.  Like all Kadey-Krogens, the 52 is built using vinylester and isophthalic resins, knytex mats, and US-made Cook UV-protected gelcoat to protect the vessel's gelcoat. Critical areas of the hull are reinforced with a special impact-resistant fiberglass mat containing Twaron, the same fiber used to give body armor its "bullet-proof" capability.  Performance is for a 9 knots max with a single 231hp John Deere engine.  But impressive is the long range of over 4000 nautical miles possible at 6 knots.

Project: Casa 38

After always going bigger size in recent years family run builder Casa presents the project for a 38 entry level model.  As the above rendering shows this new model is a fully open style sport cruiser and does not go for a hard top as the bigger Casa model's.  Coming from Rome this is no surprise where fully open boats even without radar arch are always very much appreciated in these dimensions, but also in bigger sizes.  The Casa in fact goes in direct competition with builders like Tornado, Marine Yachting, and Italcraft Sarima all coming from the where abouts of the Italian capital city, and all actualy having a fame of being sea worthy craft. Interesting for me are also the exterior hull lines of the Casa project which reminds me a bit of the nineties produced Italcraft F38.  The Casa 38 looks sleek but this on plan sets also to be a very comfortable sport cruiser.  The cockpit offers an aft sun pad layout with a C-shaped settee, helm station, and wet bar cabinet behind it.  Inside is a two cabin plan, L-shaped settee, galley, and two heads.  One of these being en-suite for the owners room located to fore.  Power is from twin Volvo 330hp stern drives which should give a top speed of 40 knots.

Project: Raffaelli 55 Storm IPS

Italian builder Raffaelli who just received new investment presents its latest challenge and new direction to the market with a project for a 55 Storm IPS.  This model is a fully enclosed sport yacht, sun roof hard top and aft patio door, and as the title says is to be powered by the Volvo forward looking dual propeller pods.  The design is trusted to Italian naval architect and designer Milavonovic, who presents lines which pay homage to this builder forty years plus story in boat building.  So far Raffaelli has not advised if the 55 Storm is to replace the 2003 presented 57 Kubang.  As the enclosed configuration usually shows, the 55 Storm offers a living on the main deck, with intelligent modern solutions making part of the concept as astern galley by the patio door which also serves the aft cockpit, and a wet bar to port side.  A C-shaped dinette is to be found to fore of the interior saloon to port side, with a very forward located helm station to starboard.  Down below we have an area dedicated only to the cabins, here offering three spacious rooms, with each having its own en-suite bathroom.  The layout while making the best of IPS pods, impresses not only for having a cabin with no bunks but also for the space dedicated in each room, and for the spacious owners stateroom located to midships.  Standard power for the 55 Storm IPS is from twin Volvo 435hp with the builder promising a top speed of 31 knots at a full load of 18 tons.

New Model: Carnevali 142

Carnevali continues its journey in presenting very valid well build products which are made for people who live and navigate the sea.  The Carnevali 142 is indeed a huge challenge to all builders, from finishing to ride and quality construction and is a yacht made to be enjoyed and lived.  Designed by Ceccarelli Yacht Design, who is a long collaborator of this family run company, this model will sit between the 130 and 160 replacing the moderately sold 145, and Carnevali hope to repeat the success of the 42 series, delivered in over fifty units in a period of ten years plus production.  The 142 is most of all good looking outside, but Ceccarelli made well of his talents to offer a comfortable three double cabins interior with owners room to fore and two guest cabins located to midships.  A crew cabin is also available to aft.  The main deck is the living area of the 142 offering here a well laid spacious galley, saloon, and helm station located to port side.  Hull one was fitted with Zebrano wood but Carnevali have always shown customization in its model so in the feature I would not be surprised to see a different interior woods used, and also a different plan inside.  Carnevali flybridge are also known for being spacious and the 142 is no exception showing space in an aft C-shaped settee, and sun pad to the forward part by the helm located to port side. Power is from twin Cat 575hp which give a top speed of 33 knots, and 27 of cruise.

Project: Intermarine 65

Intermarine, the Brazilian shipyard leader in luxury yachts in the country, presents the new 65 project, another model of its new range of products set to launch at the Sao Paulo Boat Show 2011. The project of the 65 was pre-launched at the Rio Boat Show 2011, with scale models and renderings shown there for the first time.  The 65 continues Intermarine theme of excellent performance, plenty of space, original design and sophisticated and contemporary interior characteristics.  But the new 65 as the new Intermarine models show will have a first, to be the only yacht of its size in the world to offer four comfortable guest cabins, with no bunk beds, and full beam to midships owners cabin. Third in large size dimension of the new Intermarine range behind the 85 and 75, it is a yacht for the owner user who enjoy cruising and sleeping on board and also for those who like to bring family and friends together for a tour and celebrations.  The 65 accommodates comfortably up to 23 persons for a cruise during the day.  During the night it sleeps eight persons in two suites and two cabins, besides two crew members located in separate private quarters aft.  Surprising in this comfortable layout is the master stateroom located to midships, and using full beam space.  It features a queen sized bed looking to the ships port side, large size view windows, and a separate shower head room.  The design of the new model, project of Luiz de Basto Designs studio, blends the mildness of the organic forms of the large windows with details that express strength, as the sports air entrances in stainless steel, and the flybridge radar arch, of remarkable presence.  The large windows areas of the Intermarine 65, besides bringing a lot of natural light to the interior, allow admiring the sea through a more beautiful perspective. The contrast between the light and dark tones of the furniture makes the environment light and cozy.  The performance of the new yacht, that can reach 34 knots of maximum speed from twin 1200hp MAN engines.

New Model: Pershing 74

Pershing presents by surprise the new 74, a natural evolution of the 72  the heir of the new idea range as  launched in 2007 and continued with success in 64, 80, 92 and 108.  The characteristics of this latest model  is surely the sport bridge which joins the very distincty open personality with  big volumes and total luminosity for direct contact with sea. Once again Pershing 74 still has and develops all the stylistic features that make the models of the fleet recognizable from the windows of the superstructure to those of the ship side serving the cabins, to the large retractable door that divides the cockpit from the saloon and, of course, the unparalleled performance of every Pershing yacht. Pershing 74 interior accommodation plan offers a master cabin located to midships, and two guest cabins, which sleep up to seven guests, plus two crew members in separate quarters. Great attention has also been given to the details of all the interiors, which reproduce the partnership with Poltrona Frau, that has dealt with the realization of the bridge, the lateral walls of the living room, the headboards, some of the details and all the doors of the guest cabins, as well as all the seats. The result of the teamwork between the company of the Marche region and the Centro Stile of the Ferretti Group emphasizing the elegance and the quality of the furnishings and carrying the flag of the made in Italy design. Besides the design, technology is the main protagonist on board the new Pershing 74 from the fully opening patio door joining outside with inside to the innovative retractable full length hard top and the revolutionary catwalk, developed through the collaboration with Besenzoni, which has the multiple purpose of being a retractable gangway, a swimming ladder and a docking staircase when at quay. Two MTU Common Rail engines of 1948hp with ZF Searex surface drives power the 74 that can reach a max speed of 45 knots and a cruising of 40.

Project: Prestige 550 S

Prestige presents the project of the 550 S, with designer Garroni following what was shown with the 500 S in a larger package.  This means that the 550 S follow a living on the main deck, with the below area dedicated to the three double cabins forward, and a single crew cabin aft.  Interesting solutions of the 550S are the separate entrance for the owners stateroom to midships from the two other guest cabins located to forward, and a sun lounger with ladder connection above the hard top.  While common in larger boats, this is quite unusual in sport yachts this size.  Another clever element which I personally like and has seen Prestige being the second one to use it after a famous Italian builder, is the astern galley by the patio door which makes cooking more of a social affair and something enjoyable for all those on board.  Power for the 550 S is from twin Cummins 600hp with ZF Zeus pods which give a top speed of 30 knots.
