New Model: Solaris Power 40 Open

Solaris Power has seen an interesting evolution, starting up with the traditional yacht down-east inspired 55/57 Lobster in 2019, the 48 Open presented a year later was the model which changed the trend, and after that the Italian company has been pushing on its traditional inspired center console sport cruisers and yachts.  After the 48 Open in early 2020, came the 44 in 2021, and now in 2022 we have the new entry level 40 Open model. Like the 44 and 48 before her, the 40 Open is primary about exterior spaces, usable thanks to the safe and deep walkaround from fore to aft.  It is an interesting machine where the entertainment spaces outside seem never ending in a size of just over eleven meters.  But the Solaris 40 Open does not stop here, and below also offer a sleeping accommodation for two thanks to a nice island berth, with a spacious shower head to starboard.  At midships in standard format is an utility room, which can be ordered as a cabin with two twin berths.  The Solaris Power is stern drive powered from twin petrol gas 280hp up to diesels of 440hp.

Flybridge Cruiser Beached After Hitting Fish Rock Creek

An eleven meter Riviera Sportfish cruiser hit Fish Rock creek and was beached to avoid sinking on the morning of fifteen August.  The Riviera cruiser was on a delivery trip by a professional skipper departing from Port Macquarie to the Gold Coast on the West side of Australia, where from there the new owners had to helm her to North Queensland. Unfortunately that was not the case. Salvaging operations where ongoing the day after on the sixteen August.
The Riviera in this accident is a 36 Single Cabin model produced from 1998 up to 2004, selling in 108 units.  Called that way for its single cabin layout, the 36 SC was based on the 34 Open Flybridge platform released a year earlier.

Project: Astondoa 677 Coupe

Astondoa present the project for the 677 Coupe, an evolution of the 655 Coupe, which launched in 2018 also marked the first century of the family run Spanish boat builder from Alicante.  The 677 Coupe will keep the hull lines of the previous model but the super structure is changed now to feature a fore deck with a dinette and coming with a cleaner look to the hard-top, which is now more streamlined and sporty.  Also in the 677 Coupe Astondoa has decided to remove the solarium on top of the hard-top structure and with it the stylish but may be a bit too busy side steps which lead to this area on the 655.  The Astondoa 677 is available in two layouts; galley up with four double guest cabins below, or three cabins with lower deck galley and a main deck saloon all dedicated to entertainment.  The Astondoa 677 Coupe is standard powered with Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod propulsion which will give a top speed up to 34 knots, with Man 1400hp on traditional line shafts available as option.

Princess Yacht Ends Beached in Calvi After Storm

A 26 meter Princess super yacht named m/y Vista Me ended beached on Calvi Beach in Corsica during a storm on the night between Friday twelfth and Saturday thirteen August.  The storm with gale winds and torrential rains, reached forty knots or Force Eight Beaufort scale winds.  Vista Me cut its swing mooring lines, and along with six other sailing yachts ended beached on Calvi Beach.  Twelve hours after the storm all yachts with the exception of Vista Me where refloated by SNSM voluntary corps, with the Princess super yacht needing further inspection and work for refloating to minimize further damage.
M/y Vista Me is a 2019 Princess Y85 as designed by Pininfarina for exterior and naval architecture by Olesinski and produced from 2019 so far in 32 units.  The Princess Y85 received a full hull window update in 2022, with the model coming out as a replacement to the Y88.

New Model: Benetti B.Yond 37m

In an emotional and awaited ceremony held on July 4 at the Livorno shipyard, Benetti launched the brand’s new four-deck B.Yond 37m.  Worth to add this ceremony was emotional in many ways first of all because this was the last project of Stefano Righini before he left to the better World on October 2021, and second because of  the innovation the B.Yond 37m represents.  Unlike Benetti of recent years in this size B.Yond 37m is build of steel, with an alumimium super structure. Worth to note that metal represented a huge step in the success of the Benetti onwards of the 1950s, with most of the custom Italian yards of the time still building of wood. The B.Yond 37m is innovative for its E-Mode Hybrid system by Siemens Energy which makes it possible to optimize on-board energy consumption according to specific usage profiles, which translates into unprecedented CO2 and NOx emissions reductions for a yacht in this category. The B.Yond 37M is the world’s greenest boat in its class, combining SCR catalytic filters, a gas control technology that uses a urea-based liquid solution already adopted in the automotive industry for Euro 6D diesel engines, with the innovative E-Mode Hybrid system by Siemens Energy, which is based on a crew-friendly integrated add-on architecture built on top of a traditional system. The result is extremely simple management, with switching possible from mechanical to electric propulsion and vice versa without the intervention of specialized personnel on board. This innovative solution offers the freedom of four different operating modes, including the standout Full Electric mode for zero emission navigation, an exclusive plus that allows B.Yond 37M to enter protected marine areas or those normally off-limits to motor yachts. The lithium battery pack also makes it possible to stay at anchor in Hotel Mode with zero emissions, keeping the generators switched off and running the main on-board utilities from the batteries. This translates into time spent at anchor in harmony with nature, immersed in vibration-free silence. With the new generation of high energy density batteries, the 300 kW/h pack will provide up to 8 hours of autonomy at anchor during the day and 12 hours at night. The batteries recharge in just three hours. Estimating an average annual use of 1,000 hours, of which 400 under way and the rest at anchor, fuel consumption and CO2 can be reduced by up to 24% and NOx by a maximum of 85%. All this plus the added value of an incredible range almost double that of traditional explorer super yacht of the same size, or up to 8,200 nautical miles at 9 knots in Eco Transfer mode, with the two diesel-generators switched off and only one propulsion engine running, which reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 16% and NOx emissions by up to 80% compared with traditional propulsion systems. The B.Yond 37m comes from a revolutionary concept devised by Stefano Righini, who brings all his creative flair into play, features the inclusion of a fourth deck, which makes it possible to raise all the most noble areas of the yacht and gives them an incredible panoramic view. The service area on the Lower Deck includes a walk-in wine cellar and a cold room, unusual features on a boat this size. The Main Deck provides the night area for guests, offering four suites accessed from a panoramic lounge featuring generous windows, which Benetti calls the Playroom. Stepping up onto the Upper Deck, the living area offers a completely unobstructed 360-degree view. Moving up still further, the Bridge Deck is set aside for the owner, while the Sun Deck provides a dining area with a pantry and an outdoor table sheltered by a hard top. Two stairways, one for guests and one for crew, provide completely separate flows, ensuring total privacy for both owner and guests. The layout is extremely flexible: the Main Deck, in addition to four guest suites that are particularly spacious for a 37-meter yacht, can optionally contain either the master cabin or the Playroom with a panoramic view. The Bridge Deck can accommodate, on request, either the master cabin or a panoramic veranda. On the Lower Deck, the gym can be replaced by a sixth guest cabin. Another important new feature is the double accommodation solution for the captain, with a full-size cabin adjacent to the wheelhouse and another very spacious one adjoining the crew quarters. If the captain chooses to use the cabin closest to the wheelhouse, the other one could become a seventh guest cabin. The spacious garage contains a 6.5-meter tender for the owner, a 4.2-meter rescue boat and two jet skis, for the first time in a protected and out of sight area. The white steel hull and aluminum superstructure express the personality and elegance of B.Yond 37M, complemented by stainless steel railings also painted white and finished with teak handrails, in an unusual but highly effective stylistic feature. The hull was designed by Pierluigi Ausonio’s firm P.L.A.N.A. Open and spacious, the interior design by Benetti architect Mauro Izzo offers even more potential for customization, allowing the owner to express their own taste and personality on a yacht to live on as if it were a second home. This spirit has been captured to perfection by leading contemporary design brand Giorgetti, chosen by Benetti to provide the furnishings for the first B.Yond 37M, with solutions that accommodate all the owner’s requests in an embodiment of beauty and functionality expressed through haut de gamme quality. The fine materials chosen feature a palette of natural colors, enhanced by touches of blue provided by the fabrics and accessories, standing out against the optical white walls and echoing the color of the sea. Giorgetti’s refined and sophisticated language runs through all the yacht’s decks, telling the story of the brand’s prowess in designing spaces that form part of an overarching vision.  The Benetti B.Yond 37m was already a success with eight units sold and under construction before hull one even touched the water in July.

Storm Hits Eolian Islands, Yacht Ends Beached in Aque Calde

A storm hit the Eolian island and Southern part of the Tyrrhenian sea on the early morning of Friday twelfth August at about 05:00 hours.  Result of this a dozen of cruisers and yachts ended up beached in Vulcano, with the worst hit being m/y Mambu a nineteen meter motor yacht beached in Aque Calde located on the North East part of the island.  Carrying twelve passengers at the time of the accident including two kids and a pregnant woman, the motor yacht made rescue operations rather difficult with the area where it beached being shallow and rocky.  Rescue operations where being handled by two Coast Guard boats the CP 2203 and CP 271, and a plane from the Catania Guardia Costiera operations unit.  Some minor injuries to persons where reported in this storm with the worst being a helmsman of a sailing yacht which felt sick.  Salvage operation for the nineteen meter motor yacht has been difficult due to its location.
M/y Mambu is a Cantieri Navali Liguri Ghibli 19 produced from the end eighties till about the mid nineties to order. The Ghibli 19 was mostly build to order in mahogany planking exterior and lamellar marine ply interior.
An Arturo Stabile Stama 28 also ended up beached in the Spiagia delle Sabbie Nere on the North West part of the island but reported to have sustained minor damage.

New ISA Super Yacht Burns Down in Formentera

M/y Aria SF a new one month old ISA 45 meter super yacht burned down in Cala Soana, Formentera, near Ibiza on Thursday 11 August at about 1700 hours.  The super yacht had nine guests and seven crew at the time of the fire, with the Spanish coast guard sending immediately two rescue boats for assistance.  None of the guests where injured.  Initial attempts to control the fire where unsuccessful, with the super yacht remaining ablaze for more then 24 hours.  After the fire a salvage boat from Salvamento Maritimo was towing Aria SF, with the yacht located in Cap Martinet, when this operation was abandoned and the owner taking charge of the salvage, with the yacht sinking a day later on the fourteen August in twelve meters of depth.  The cause of the fire are not yet reported but neighbouring boats reported of hearing explosions some minutes before they saw the yacht burning.
M/y Aria SF is the first ISA Yachts GT 45m, ordered in 2019 and completed in June 2022, to a design by Enrico Gobbi with interior by Luca Dini. Ara SF is reported owned by Italian car components businessman Paolo Scudieri, with this ISA Yachts GT 45 planned to debut at the Cannes 2022 boat show.  A second GT 45 is currently under construction set for delivery in 2023.

Project: Boston Boatworks Daychaser 48

After fifteen years of service, tens of thousands of outings, the use of third partly build boats, a demand for a larger more open vessel  has pushed Barton and Gary to design there own Daychaser 48. With help coming from Zurn design, and being built at Boston Boatworks known for building the MJM line, the Daychaser 48 offers full deck use from fore to aft, while a cabin below offers a single berth, shower head, and an office space. The idea here is to have a dedicated traditional down East lobster boat build for the purpose of club membership. It will be interesting to see if the Daychaser 48 will stay in the area or will become something more. Powered by twin Cummins 550hp with Hamilton jet propulsion the Daychaser 48 is expected to reach a top speed up to 35 knots.  Hull one is expected to launch in 2022, with other hulls following in order to renew the Barton and Gray fleet.

Classic Baglietto Ends Beached Near St. Florent

A classic Baglietto of eleven meters in length with one passenger onboard ended up beached with hull damaged being sustained in Plage de Ghignu, near to St. Florent in North Corsica, at 17:25 of Wednesday tenth August.  Assistance was called with the two ships Conca D'Oru with six persons and Concarelle with two giving prompt assistance in order to re-float the classic cruiser.  The floating got complicated on the night, due to stronger winds and rough seas, but the operation was a success the day after with the classic cruiser being dry docked on the evening of eleven August.
This classic cruiser is a Baglietto Elba Mt 11.50 model produced from 1958 up to 1963 in 42 units.  The Elba was the smallest of the Mediterranean Island series produced from 1958 till 1965 in five models up to 22 meters in size.  The Island series featured Baglietto anti-submarine modified-Vee planning World War II famous hull shape, with traditional mahogany planking hull construction joined to the new at the time marine plywood super structure.
