A man and a woman were injured as a maxi rib of 22 meters collided with a sailing catamaran of twelve meters in length off the beach at Cala d’Hort, near Sant Josep de sa Talaia, to the South West of Ibiza after 19:30 of Monday 28 July. Palma Maritime Rescue Center and Ibiza Maritime Captaincy responded to the collision, as they took the two injured persons; the catamaran captain and a 53 year old injured Spanish woman to Can Misses Hospital, with the woman reported to be in a serious condition. The remaining people on the catamaran were rescued with minor injuries and also taken to Can Misses Hospital for an initial assessment. The catamaran boat eventually sank and has been flagged as a danger to navigators, with the maxi rib towed to Ibiza harbour by the L/S Hydra.
The maxi rib in this collision is a Novamarine Black Shiver 220 as produced from 2013 up to 2020. The Black Shiver 220 is the largest rib ever produced by Novamarine and was replaced by the slight smaller Black Shiver 200 which arrived in 2024.
