A classic Bertram 31 titled m/y Guga with four persons onboard was saved from sinking as it collided into a submerged reef at Piccolo Pevero, near Porto Cervo, in the Emerald Coast of Sardinia at about 11:30 of Tuesday 29 August. The Vigili del Fuoco assisted the boaters first, and were also helped by the Guardia Costiera. All boaters were reported uninjured and following this an operation to save the classic Bertram was started, as water was coming from its rudders. The classic Bertram was saved and towed to a boat yard in Porto Cervo for repairs.
The Bertram in this sinking is the Ray Hunt designed 31 in the Sedan version. Produced from 1961 to 1983 in five other versions the Bertram 31 was born from the wooden Moppie prototype race boat which won and dominated the Miami Nassau race in 1960. The 31 started the Bertram brand and is one of the top classic boats since its stopped being produced. The Bertram 31 also kick started the deep-Vee hull shape and fiberglass revolution.
