One man was injured as an electric powered classic looking cruiser collided into a VanDutch cruiser at the Port of Fontvielle, Monaco, before the start of the Grand Prix on Sunday of 28 May 2023. The story was reported by the Monacolife Instagram channel, as the electric boat is filmed colliding with its bow into the port side of the VanDutch cruiser. The skipper of the electric cruiser suffered injuries as he tried to avoid the collision by jumping into the front of the boat to prevent damage, injuring his foot which required immediate treatment from paramedics. His other only passenger jumped in the water, with none of the nine passengers of the VanDutch cruiser suffering any injuries. The collision happened as the electric power cruiser was reported to have a malfunction and was not obeying commands and could not be stopped. Both boats sustained damage above the water line, that will need important repairs, although they were not in danger of sinking.
The VanDutch cruiser in this collision is the 40 model as designed by Frank Mulder, and produced since 2009. The 40 was the model which debuted VanDutch, and has been its best seller to date.
The all electric boat is a Vita Lion 10.5m as produced from 2020 to 2023. Vita Electric Boats from Italy was founded in 2017, debuting with the IX model a year later.
