Arcadia in Full Production

The sale of a new A105 and the fact that the yard’s entire range is currently in production is the best possible message to send out for 2023, the year in which the new A96 is being launched. These are hectic months for the yard founded by Ugo Pellegrino. It has just signed a contract to sell the fourth A105, while at the same time working hard to deliver three Sherpa 60s, two Sherpa 80s and an A85 in the coming weeks. Work continues in the meantime on the A96, an extraordinary project with interiors by Igor Lobanov that will enter the water in the second half of 2023.

Azimut Transforms Darsena for Milano Design Week 2023

From the 17th to the 23rd of April, Azimut Yachts presents “The Sea Deck,” the floating installation that recounts the desire to go beyond the expected and as with the yachts of the Seadeck Series  rediscover contact with nature. It is both an emotional walk on the water and a journey to discover the route traced by Azimut to protect the sea.  In the nautical world, Azimut has realized the ideal of returning to nature: the Shipyard was the first to combine technological solutions to reduce environmental impact with stylistic and design innovations aimed at breaking down the barriers between inside and outside to embrace the sea once again. The symbol of this approach is the new Seadeck Series, the first hybrid Series of motoryachts for families, which will achieve a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions in an average year of use compared to a traditional flybridge boat of similar size. The new Seadeck Series, epitomizing this philosophy, has inspired AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi in the creation of "The Sea Deck", a floating promenade on the Darsena, designed in collaboration with Azimut to bring the experience of the ancient navigable waterways back to the city of Milan and offer visitors a new perspective on enjoying the water from a unique point of view near Leonardo da Vinci's historic canal.  The project was designed to re-propose the same revolution that Azimut has introduced in the nautical world, inviting you to embark on a journey to discover the technologies developed by the Shipyard to reduce environmental impact and to share a moment of return to nature, which is the essence of navigation.  The installation reinterprets the expansive stern terrace found on yachts of the Seadeck Series: once on board, visitors will be able to walk – strictly barefoot – along the ring, suspended above the water, to the center of the Darsena and satisfy that desire to “go further”, the part of Azimut's pioneering DNA that nourishes sea explorers. Along the way, cantilevered terraces  referencing the openable "wings" of Seadeck yachts host interactive stations that reveal the stages of the Shipyard’s path to reduce emissions and energy consumption. In the evening, the LED lighting evokes the same emotions as boat lights shimmering on the water.  The installation created by Azimut in collaboration with AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi has the patronage of the Municipality of Milan for the values of sustainability and circularity according to which it was created. The Seadeck Series combines technological solutions with the use of natural, recycled and recyclable materials. AMDL CIRCLE looked to these in defining this project for the fuorisalone: as on the yachts of the series, the traditional teak is replaced by cork, an effective and more sustainable alternative, and the decking of the installation is made of recycled and ground bottle corks, which will then be transformed again into insulating material for architecture, further reducing its environmental impact. From the first step onto cork, the ancient material symbolic of the Mediterranean, visitors will enter another world, an unprecedented place for sharing urban space and reconnecting with the most powerful and regenerative of elements, water.  Azimut, AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi are meeting the visitors of Milan Design Week near the Leonardo canal from the 17th to the 23rd of April to discover, in this unusual relaxation space, a new connection with the waters of the historic Navigli.

Bayliss Boatyard Expansion

This past month, contractors began clearing the way for ten new boat slips and fifteen additional workspaces on the hard top. Nearly 1,000 linear feet of bulkhead, a 12,000 gallon fuel tank, and 25 100 amp shore power pedestals will also be part of the new addition.  Bayliss looks forward to the completion of the project later this year.

Benetti 23rd Yachtmaster Celebrates 150 Anniversary

“Build Your Ideal Yacht” is the title of the two-day event on technology and design innovations in yachting, organized to chart the course together to an ever more respectful relationship with the environment.  The hugely successful 23rd Benetti Yachtmaster, an event for industry professionals held this year from February 15 to 16 in Abu Dhabi, was attended by over 200 participants, including 110 captains, surveyors, stewardesses and professionals, who brought the two-day event to life with discussions about the future of the international yacht industry. A programme packed with meetings, in-depth discussions, and opportunities for networking sparked an interesting debate on innovative solutions to sustainability issues.  This year’s edition of the annual event, with the claim “Build Your Ideal Yacht”, focused on the importance of involving all participants in the development of a new awareness about the future of yachting. Two days of conferences and workshops to get up to speed on the state of the art in technology innovations, on alternative eco-friendly alternatives available today and planned for the future to reduce CO2 emissions and to store energy on board, and on research into eco-fuel solutions so that yachting is increasingly respectful of the nature around us.  Playing host, Azimut|Benetti Group President Giovanna Vitelli laid out her vision for a future in which awareness will be the driver steering customers towards solutions that reduce environmental impact. This awareness has grown out of Benetti’s history and the farsightedness it has gained over the years, inspiring it to keep developing new alternative technologies. The history of Benetti boasts a host of outstanding innovations, from the first diesel-electric yacht, Ambrosia 65M in 2005, right through to the 2022 launch of the B.Yond 37M, fitted with the Full-Hybrid E-Mode system developed by Benetti with Siemens Energy. The event was also an opportunity to look back over the history of Benetti in the year of its 150th anniversary.  Sebastiano Fanizza, Benetti Chief Commercial Officer, reminded everyone of the commercial importance of the Arabian Peninsula and described what the shipyard offers the market today in terms of sustainability, emphasising the importance of an open dialogue among all the main players in the yachting industry and especially between captains and the shipyard, which is key to the creation of the yacht of the future.  The objective set out by the IMO of a 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030 is a clearly defined target for Benetti, which it will achieve thanks to the Shipyard’s farsightedness and pioneering spirit in R&D: the course has already been charted.  The solutions identified by Benetti’s engineers for the medium term are the new hybrid and electric propulsion systems, the Hotel Mode Zero Emission systems supported by latest generation high-energy-density lithium battery packs, new materials developed to endure over time and, potentially for the future, alternative fuels such as Bio Fuel (HVO), because they are the most realistic in terms of technology, storage and the broad availability of these energy sources.  After his intervention there was a panel discussion involving the captains, who presented their own personal experiences, highlighting the importance of the quality of the logistic services offered to crews and shipyards and the need for innovative propositions to satisfy the needs of owners.  Training sessions were interspersed with team building and recreational initiatives. The morning of February 16 was one of pure excitement at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, where the teams competed in a race to the bitter end. Later guests met up at Qasr al Watan Palace, which perfectly embodies the spirit of the people of the United Arab Emirates, for an exclusive visit and a stunning light and music show set against the spectacular backdrop of the Palace. The evening ended in the magical Arabian atmosphere of the Emirates Palace, at a super elegant, white-themed traditional gala dinner set amidst the beautiful floral displays in the gardens.  We would like to thank our partners for having made this edition of the event unique and their willingness to engage in a constructive dialogue with all participants. GIGA partners: Lusben, Viraver, Volvo Penta. MEGA partners: ASEA Power System, Boero YachtCoatings, CGT, Jotun, Kongsberg, RINA, Saim Marine, San Severino Napoli. CLASS partners: Asea Nautica, CMC Marine, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, MTU, Naiad Dynamics, Fincantieri, Versilia Supply Service, Videoworks.

Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi Opens New Production Site

Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi (Italian Motorboat Factory) has hosted an event for customers, stakeholders and the media in order to inaugurate the new plant of Cividate al Piano, close to Bergamo and 60km east of Milan. The plant, launched with a ribbon cutting by the mayor of Cividate al Piano Gianni Forlani, and by the partners Corrado Piccinelli, Manuela Barcella and Vannis Marchi, is a modern production site that spreads over more than 5000 sqm, and employs around 70 people, including external contractors.  It includes areas dedicated to design, construction, tank testing (up to 50 feet) and delivery to customers.  The investment in the new production site turned out to be necessary following the great success of the first two models launched by FIM: the open 340 Regina (sterndrive and outboard, respectively 2020 and 2021), and 470 Regina, born in 2022.  More than 30 units of the two have already been sold: in particular, in the last nautical year (until August 2023) 12 units of the 340 model and five of the 470 are built or under construction. By 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival the shipyard will complete hull #30 of 340 Regina, hull #5 of 470 Regina, and the very first unit of the brand new 420 Regina.  Indeed, the event was also an opportunity to preview the third and newest model in the Regina range: the FIM 420 Regina.  On the occasion of the opening event, Corrado Piccinelli, CEO and co-founder of Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi, wanted to thank all the participants: “Looking at this audience, I see in each of you an important part of my career in the nautical sector and beyond. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart our families, for the values they have passed on to us, our customers, for the trust and attachment they show us, then again the dealers, the journalists, the suppliers and collaborators, and last but not least all the members of our team, for the tenacity and commitment with which they face their responsibilities every day".  Manuela Barcella, CEO and co-founder of the company along with Corrado Piccinelli, adds: “I am very proud to see you all here to celebrate this important milestone for us and for FIM. I see this evening as the beginning of a wonderful journey that we will undertake, mostly because of the cooperation of you all".  “Being tonight at the inauguration event of the new FIM production plant means a lot to me,” said Vannis Marchi, capital shareholder and co-founder of the fashion brand Liu Jo “It's like reliving my first times at Liu Jo, when you are preparing to carry out a project that is in progress, and you feel that you are building something great. And the proof that Corrado and Manuela are building something great is the presence of all of you, gathered here to celebrate such an important moment".  When introducing the new 420 Regina, Massimo Radice - General Manager of FIM - wanted to call on stage the entire team that helped create it. Among them: Alessandro Lottici, Design Studio a lot (concept and design); Arianna Bianchi and Silvia Capelli from LDI Design Studio (interiors, decor and styling).

Ferretti Group Aquires New Site in Ravenna

Ferretti Group announces the acquisition of a production site of over 70,000 square metres, including a dry dock, in San Vitale province of Ravenna.   The acquisition involved an initial investment of about 40 million euros and will be followed by a further 40 million over the coming three-year period to create new production areas and an Research and Design centre. The operation forms part of Ferretti Group’s growth strategy and the new facility, when fully operational, will increase production capacity by about 20%. The acquisition of the new Ravenna shipyard has been financed entirely with equity raised by the recent listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange.  The new production site in the province of Ravenna is strategically located, close to the company’s Forlì headquarters and its Cattolica shipyard. This operation consolidates the Group’s investment strategy, which over the last five years has resulted in the expansion and improvement of all production facilities, and the La Spezia yard and the Ancona Superyacht Yard in particular.  "The acquisition of this area keeps a promise we made. We have big plans and picture a state-of-the-art production site from every point of view: worker well-being, positive social impact, environmental protection also by carefully selecting the materials used – and increased production.  Ravenna is the right home for Wally sailing yachts and the expansion of our other brands, starting with the extraordinary Ferretti Yachts InFYnito range. We choose Italy again and invest not only to become stronger, but also to hold the flag high for an industry that is a symbol of our country: luxury yachting and the extensive entrepreneurship and artisan craftsmanship network that is the admiration and envy of the entire world,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi.

Ferretti Group Convergence 2023

They say that when men and mountains meet, great things happen. Which is why Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc, was the spectacular location chosen to host the 2023 edition of Convergence, the long-running professional training event organized by Ferretti Group for over 100 captains and chief engineers of ships and yachts in its fleet.  Held from March 14 to 17, Convergence 2023 proved to be an extremely productive opportunity to meet and get up to speed on various subjects, from the performance of the industry as a whole to possible future scenarios in the field of environmental sustainability and energy transition.  The first day’s activities kicked off with welcomes and presentations from Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi and Chief Commercial Officer Stefano de Vivo, who outlined the latest financial results, the new models and projects under construction at the Group’s yards, and the most innovative technologies installed on board. There were presentations about the innovation-related work of the individual brands, with a special focus on Ferretti's commitment to sustainability, which is a core value underpinning all the Group’s activities, from emissions reduction to the energy transition. There was also a focus on research into sustainable materials and innovative technologies, such as those that can be found on the new Ferretti Yachts INFYNITO 90, the yacht for navigating the future. Ferretti Group is strongly committed to R&D work to identify cutting-edge products and tools.  Much of the second day, Wednesday March 15, was devoted to training, with panel discussions led by management together with world-class partners and experts.  The first session, “Propulsion systems and alternative fuels, with a view to environmental sustainability and compliance with new regulations”, was held by Danilo Giunchi and Gianluca Ciniero (respectively Engineering Director and CRN Engineering Director, Ferretti Group), Matteo Mangherini (LATERAL), Tobias Kohl (MTU - Main Sponsor), Andrea Piccione (Volvo - Main Sponsor), Francesco Monti (CEO of Podium - a leading player in the automotive lithium battery industry) and Giuseppe Zagaria (R.I.N.A. - certification body and Main Sponsor).  The second session, “Prevention of and response to onboard accidents, with a special focus on managing accidents caused by lithium batteries and new alternatives to hydrocarbon-derived fuels”, was held by Paul Fuller (insurance company Howden Sturge), Tom Walters (legal firm Holman Fenwick Willan), Massimo Farnesi (MarineFire), Francesco Monti (Podium CEO) and Andrea Venturelli (certification body R.I.N.A.). The discussion was thought-provoking, useful and educational, with many questions raised and interesting comments made by the captains and chief engineers. In both sessions, the audience used an interactive app to give feedback and ask questions in real time, anonymously if they wished, which proved invaluable in encouraging participation in the panel discussions.  Main partners MTU, R.I.N.A., Simrad, Sleipner and Volvo made a huge contribution to the event, along with technical sponsors Amare Group, Asea Power System and F.lli Canalicchio.  They were joined by an exclusive selection of partners, including Porto Mirabello marina, Range Rover and the Yacht Club de Monaco.  With Range Rover, guests had the opportunity to visit the Range Rover House, a distillation of lifestyle and design that tells the story of the brand and its values, with spaces featuring elements of modernism and eco-sustainable materials blended together into a masterful whole. Guided by the Land Rover Experience team, they were also given the chance to discover the adrenaline-inducing features of the New Range Rover Sport on a snow-covered track, and to fully experience the Defender’s spirit of off-road adventure at the Defender Snow Park. There was also a competition in which participants had to pilot drones over an adventurous timed course while avoiding numerous obstacles.  “The first in-person Convergence after two years online demonstrated the absolute importance of this event as a generator of know-how and team spirit. The discussion among more than one hundred captains and chief engineers was both interesting and satisfying, because the ability of yachting professionals to work as a team and exchange insights is a core driver of the success of both Ferretti Group and its yachts. Convergence is an event that leaves us better informed, better motivated and better able to offer our owners an even safer and more rewarding yachting experience” said Ferretti Group Chief Commercial Officer Stefano de Vivo.

Capex of Euro 97 million, increasing Euro 23 million compared to 2021.  Net financial position improved from Euro 93 million of net cash at December 31, 2021 to Euro 365 million of net cash at December 31, 2022, including about Euro 233 million of IPO proceeds. The global boating market, with a size of approximately EUR 24 billion in 2022, is a sector that is growing significantly and is expected to reach a value of more than EUR 29 billion by 2025. Therefore, given the constantly changing context mentioned above, between 2022 and 2025 the number of potential end customers (i.e. VHNWI and UHNWI) will greatly increase with, in particular, a compound annual growth rate of 7.7% and 7.8% respectively; moreover, the penetration of luxury boating among potential final customers is still less than 1%, a figure that reveals a huge potential for growth.  In the future, leveraging its unique business model, the strong heritage of iconic brands, the unparalleled attention to product excellence and innovation, the tailored approach and its sales model, the Group will focus on: the adaptation and improvement of the offer and the mix of products based on the evolution of market trends and customer expectations, with the aim of consolidating the market leadership in both large Composite and Made-to measure segments, focusing on those with the greatest potential for growth and margins the expansion of the Made-to-measure portfolio in larger alloy yachts, thanks to our iconic brands such as Riva, Wally, Pershing and Custom Line, with the aim of satisfying as many potential customers as possible, maintaining the distinctive exclusivity and satisfying the need of greater customization. So doing, we will be able to meet the market demand for yachts with greater dimensions leveraging on the know-how and the acquired experience with CRN and the recent successes of Pershing 140 and Riva 50 Meters.  the vertical integration of strategic and high value-added activities, to ensure excellence in the luxury design, performance, quality and reliability of our yachts and to support our future growth and the expansion of the product portfolio.  the improvement of the overall offer, with the aim of strengthening the resilience and profitability of the business, by, also, the consolidation of some vertical activities like the yacht brokerage service, the refitting service, the brand extension activities and the Ferretti Security Division operations.  On March 8, 2023, the board of directors of the Company proposed dividend of €19,903 thousand (equal to €5.88 cents per share), which is subject to the approval of the Company’s shareholders at the forthcoming annual general meeting.

Ferretti Group Learning a Trade

Much more than an extra-curricular internship for career guidance, this basic professional training course combines theory and experience in the yard – in a programme ranging from sessions in the classroom and workshop to on-the-job training in production departments – with the aim of creating real career opportunities. This is the Scuola dei Mestieri (School of Trades), a new Ferretti Group project for 18- to 30-year-olds and designed to form a new generation of skilled workers.  The first edition of the three-month course, officially launched early in March, will be held at the “Don Bosco” Professional Training Centre in Forlì, an important institution in the heart of the city that has been active since 1952 and understands the needs of the labour market through its ongoing dialogue with businesses.  The 11 participants in the Forlì project are excited about this hands-on approach to the world of work and the opportunity to discover a new skilled occupation that could be the start of a solid career as a naval carpenter, deck fitter, engine mechanic, etc.  In Ferretti Group’s vision, in fact, the Scuola dei Mestieri will become an incubator of young resources attracted by the excellence of Italian boatbuilding. After this first stage in Forlì, the Scuola dei Mestieri will move to Mondolfo and Sarnico in September to involve more young people in the new project.  The goal of transferring knowledge will also be achieved by exploiting the Group’s own know-how: the classroom courses will be held by managers and key technical experts who have worked in Ferretti Group, including a former yard manager and a former line foreman.  “We see it as our duty towards the community, as well as a pleasure, to share the precious expertise acquired over the years by Ferretti Group with young people keen to embark on this adventure, which we hope will be the beginning of a fruitful and long-term career,” announced the Company. “In September, following the kick-off in Forlì, the format will used in the Mondolfo and Sarnico yards to train carpenters and mechanics respectively. We are extremely glad to be able to contribute in this way to the formation of a new generation of skilled workers.”  The three-month course is paid as if it were an extra-curricular internship and is designed to provide on-the-job training in line with an approach that has always been fundamental in the highly skilled trades.  At the end of the three months, participants will receive certificates from both the Company and the local government (Regione Emilia-Romagna).

Just after filming 36m Martinique Botti while cruising the Turks and Caicos islands, Moonen received word that she has been nominated for the World Superyacht Awards! The long-range steel-hull ship made a strong impression thanks to her remarkable design story. Botti's experienced owners took Moonen's proven Dutch design platform and made it their own. Their close collaboration with the Moonen Yachts shipyard and London-based interior designers Studio Indigo resulted in a very American flagship with all the charm, sophistication and architectural merit of an exclusive Palm Beach home. Congratulations to the owners, as well as Moonen production team, the design and engineering partners and everyone whose incredible dedication and attention to detail made Botti possible.

Riviera Workforce Celebrates Bright Future

With a workforce of 900 people, including 112 apprentices, Riviera’s Apprentice of the Year awards is an annual celebration of the depth and breadth of hard-working talent within the Riviera team.  At a special ceremony held in front of the entire Riviera workforce, four worthy winners were announced for 2022 across four categories: Claudia Le Fevre, second-year apprentice in upholstery; Simon Magnay, second-year apprentice in engineering; William Johnstone, second-year apprentice in boat building, and Connor Baruksopulo, first-year apprentice in timber and composite machining.  Claudia Le Fevre completed her second year as an upholstery apprentice in 2022 and says she had her sights firmly set on working with Riviera whilst still at school. “My family have always loved boats and I knew I wanted to join a trade,” Claudia says. “I started work just one week after my final school year ended. I was very nervous on that first day, but everyone quickly helped me feel at ease.  “I love working with my hands and now I work each day down at the waterfront fitting our fabulous upholstery to these fantastic yachts. The award was quite a surprise. I was certainly not expecting it,” Claudia says.  Simon Magnay moved from Casino in northern New South Wales to pursue his dream of working with Riviera. “I first saw Riviera yachts at the Sydney boat show and knew I wanted to be a part of the organisation that built them,” says Simon. “I have already progressed to working with the team conducting sea trials on the yachts.  I had the thrill of working on one of the trials for the first 78 Motor Yacht. She is awesome.”  Marine Craft Construction apprentice William Johnstone was also attracted to Riviera after seeing the yachts on the water. “My grandfather had a boat and we often sailed past the Riviera facility and I just wanted to be a part of it,” William recalls. “At the moment I work on fitting out the interiors of the yachts, making sure that every component fits exactly. I was over the moon to be named an Apprentice of the Year. I work long hours and I love it. I am honing my skills all the time.”  Connor Baruksopulo admits he was initially nervous about working alongside older and more experienced people, but soon found a new home at Riviera. “I moved right in and everyone was so welcoming,” he says. “Now I am working on achieving my CNC certificate. I was stoked with myself to achieve an Apprentice of the Year award. My dream is drawing CAD programs for the CNC systems.”  Riviera’s safety and training manager Adam Houlahan says Riviera will continue to welcome young and passionate apprentices through its schools’ program. “All of the award-winning apprentices have a shared drive and determination found across Riviera’s 900-strong team, namely a passion for creating exceptional blue-water luxury motor yachts,” Adam says.  Additionally, the recently announced TAFE Apprentice of the Year was another achievement for the Riviera team with Max Whitmore awarded runner-up from a very large entry pool across the State. Meanwhile six apprentices have recently graduated through Riviera’s award-winning Propel program. They are: Tirryn Casey, Jack Fuller, Joshua Hindmarsh, Steven Kupfer, Brendan O’Grady and Thomas Jay Parsons.  As Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst attests, the up-and-coming workforce at Riviera has a bright future indeed. “These young members of our team are the genesis of the next generation of master boat builders for our industry,” Rodney says. “I began my own career as an apprentice, so I have been on the same journey, and share their excitement for the future.  “As we continue to grow, we are looking to recruit additional apprentices and keen to hear from quality people who aspire to join the world-class team we have at Riviera. Our apprentices are given incredible support from the exceptional Riviera team, who provide high-quality training and mentoring to encourage each one of them to excel in their careers and in life generally,” Rodney adds.

Riviera Dealer Network Touch Down

For the team of experienced marine technicians and engineers from Riviera’s worldwide dealership network, the three-day training and service academy was well worth the jet lag.  Hosted at Riviera’s 16-hectare (39.5 acre) state-of-the-art facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the service academy forms part of an annual program conducted by Riviera to enhance the skills of its dealer network teams. The three-day program comprised more than 10 separate workshops plus extensive tours of the facility, taking participants through the entire yacht production process from hull lamination and engineering, through to anti-fouling.  The dealer network teams left with a detailed understanding of the new product development processes, including a confidential tour of a new yacht in the early stages of development. They also undertook an extensive review of Riviera’s latest safety systems, vessel care, maintenance and system connectivity, designed to make boating with Riviera easier, safer and more enjoyable.   The final day of the program included sea trials aboard three Riviera yachts, including the newly launched 46 Sports Motor Yacht, with all participants wholeheartedly agreeing the event was a resounding success.  “We have been a Riviera Dealer for 16 years and I have visited Coomera a number of times,” says Matt Mrozinski from Lake Michigan Yacht Sales. “On this visit I was extremely impressed by the significant investments and improvements the company has made, right across the site from technology to buildings and processes.  “The training was very technical, which our team greatly appreciated. Seeing exactly how the yachts are built today, being able to touch and observe the entire process was very beneficial. This latest training and knowledge-sharing allows us to better serve our customers,” Matt says.  Greg Glogow from Sun Country says he is deeply impressed by the Riviera facility, and its level of presentation, technology and growing scale. “I have been in the marine industry for more than 30 years and this is the best facility I have seen anywhere in the world.”  Randy Buckell from Emerald Pacific Yachts says he really appreciated the extensive detail of this latest training academy. “This additional knowledge regarding the new batteries being utilised, the inverters and charging systems was very helpful. We were able to meet and talk with Riviera’s engineers and technicians and further our knowledge.”  Randy’s business partner Brett Aggen says this latest round of product knowledge was vital to the dealership networks’ capabilities with customers. “Everyone can see and touch a yacht,” Brett says. “Understanding the technology so often hidden onboard is important in being able to answer customers’ questions with confidence and provide assurance as well as, if required, service assistance.” Chris Bingham, also with Emerald Pacific Yachts, says seeing the scale of the Riviera operation was eye-opening. “I was impressed by the efficiency of the plant and how much effort Riviera takes in eliminating waste and focussing on the reliability of the yachts,” Chris says. “They undertake 1,700 tests during a build before the yacht is handed over to a customer. The yachts are complex systems and it’s great to know just how meticulous the build team is.”  Kenny Brown from Sun Country says he was already familiar with much of the new technology, including Garmin and CZone. “The seminars were very useful and the Riviera team was very open to answering all our questions,” he says. “Being able to have the time to get to know and talk with the Riviera technicians was very useful. I thought the training would be good, but it was truly amazing.”  Anthony Vigliotti from OneWater Group found immense value in the in-depth factory tour. “It helps us greatly to understand how the yachts are built,” Anthony says. “I was impressed by the processes that drive each build. The fact that Riviera manufactures even its own small parts, sets this organisation apart.  We will take much of the Riviera culture back home with us. These are yachts built by people with pedigree!”  At the conclusion of the training and service academy, Riviera Australia’s owner Rodney Longhurst praised the international team for their enthusiasm, dedication, and support of Riviera owners around the world. “Our worldwide network of representatives is the face of Riviera and we are extremely proud of your efforts,” Rodney says. “We are appreciative that you have set aside your time to travel, for some a journey halfway around the world, to update and expand your Riviera expertise. Your dedication to ensure the best experience possible for Riviera motor yacht owners has never been stronger.”

Riviera Bahamas Rendezvous

Eleven luxury motor yachts, including Michael and Tanya Quesnel’s Riviera 4700 Sport Yacht Monaco, departed Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at dawn on August 12 for a three-hour crossing to Bimini in the Bahamas.  “We have our Riviera in Florida, but we actually live in Vancouver, Canada, so we probably travelled the furthest to even start the Rendezvous,” Michael says. “We’ve cruised to the Bahamas three times before, so this for us was more about travelling with the OneWater crew and a bunch of people we’d never met before; not that you need much of an excuse to go to the Bahamas.”  That evening the Canadian couple, with their son James and the rest of the crews, enjoyed their first spectacular sunset on Rockwell Island with a cocktail party.  “The next day we travelled to the Exumas for more dinners and sightseeing. We swam with the pigs,  explored the Thunderball grotto of James Bond fame and snorkelled among the fish and coral. The entrance to the grotto is underwater so you have to snorkel through a short tunnel to enter the cave system,” Michael explains. The unusual sight of swimming pigs on Big Major Cay is a major drawcard for sailors. “It was a great experience for our son James. We were lucky the president of OneWater had his son there too, he is a similar age so they could spend time together swimming and playing at the beach while the adults enjoyed their cocktail parties.”  The benefits of joining an organised experience are many: seeing new places, meeting new friends and perhaps the most indulgent is being able to leave the trip organising and planning to someone else.  “It’s really a nice break from having to organise yourself. We enjoyed the schedule, it wasn’t too rushed and we could relax,” Michael says. “For me, the social aspect was really good,” Tanya adds. “Boating communities are friendly and generally eager to have a chat and a glass of wine on the deck. It’s nice to hear about other people’s perspectives on why they chose a Riviera and the particular model they did. We love the quality of the build and other owners feel the same way; you can feel really confident in your boat,” she explains. “I loved the trip overall (I) loved that clear, shallow water to swim in and we just enjoyed the Riviera so much. It’s really easy for when we’re snorkelling to get on and off the deck, and we’re thrilled with the dinghy [garage] where we can store the paddle boards, snorkel and dive gear. It all works really well for us.”  After visiting Chub Cay and a long 121nm journey to Staniel Cay, the flotilla continued on another 75nm to Atlantis Resort and Marina.  Robyn and Jonathan Lefcourt, owners of Riviera 645 Robyns Nest, made the most of the two nights and downtime at the Atlantis, on Nassau Island, to meet new people.  “I think the camaraderie on a trip like this is valuable, and (so is) the opportunity to meet new people and get to know each other. Boating is a fantastic way to form friendships,” Robyn says. “We did a substantial amount of boating on the trip. Some of us were very seasoned boaters and some were pretty new to boating, so it was a nice mix and good for those not as experienced to have safety in numbers,” she says. The Lefcourts acquired their first boat together in 1986. “I think of all the boats we’ve owned over the years, the Riviera is one of our favourites. I enjoy the fact it’s a very seaworthy vessel and that there are no stairs, steps or ladders, so it’s a very easy boat to get around. I love the outdoor seating area on the bow and I love the mezzanine deck. My husband fishes, so having that sized cockpit is amazing. Fishing in the Bahamas is fantastic.”  Reflecting on the Rendezvous, Robyn admits she would have liked to have spent more time in the Exuma Cays. “The beauty is unparalleled; it’s a lovely, lovely destination. There’s so much to do there, so much nature, all the snorkelling and water sports. I think we stayed three nights; it would have been nice to stay three weeks or three years. Oh gosh, the weather was just beautiful. We were very lucky.”  At last it was back to Bimini where OneWater hosted a farewell dinner – the perfect ending to an epic trip. “Obviously we’re looking forward to another Rendezvous,” Robyn says. “The Riviera handled magnificently; it’s a fantastic boat and we’re very happy Riviera owners.”

Riva and Ferrari Still Together

A red and aquamarine thread ties together the history and success of both these modern-day legends: Riva and Ferrari symbolise everything iconic and unrivalled about Italian-made products, which thrive on masterful craftsmanship and an extraordinary ability to innovate.  This communion of values and goals is confirmed by the presentation of the new Formula 1™ racing car produced by the Maranello-based company for the 2023 season and the announcement that this year too Riva will be official sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari in the Formula 1™ World Championship, now in its 74th year.  The Riva logo will appear on the Ferrari SF-23s and helmets of Scuderia Ferrari’s two drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr., sealing a partnership that promises another season of spectacle and excitement.  “Number ones understand each other and teaming up comes naturally to them. Riva and Ferrari are so alike in so many ways, from their supreme style and beauty to their striving for perfection in every detail, that when Charles Leclerc and Carlo Sainz Jr. climb out of their racing cars, they choose our magnificent boats to relax and have fun on,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “In Formula 1™ I recognise one of the key factors behind Riva’s success – a fierce determination to keep improving the performance and quality of the product. I see this same mindset in Charles and Carlos, and it’s a pleasure for our brand to be associated with their sporting endeavours.”  The world’s most famous yacht and motorsport brands have had a joint presence starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix, the season’s first event scheduled for March 3 to 5, and continuing through to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last stage of the Formula 1™ 2023 World Championship held from November 24 to 26.

David Kairalla and Mack Amos each released four while Dustin Johnson, Charlie Stubbs and Colin Yost each added a pair of sails. Captain Matt Alligood received the Top Captain award.  Too Many Martinis, a Viking 68, was the 2nd Place Boat with a dozen sailfish releases. Kurt Wallace and Tim Gredick released four; Austin Rowe released two; and Sherrie Kogok and Blair Branchesi each released one. Captain Chris Marchesani was the 2nd Place Captain. The new Valhalla 55 center console demo stepped into its first Winner’s Circle with the Palm Beach Daily on Day Two. Over 50 boats battled for the seven-figure purse across the waters of South Florida.

Viking at Gold Cup

Congratulations to the Krazy Salt’s team on their 2nd Place Finish at the Invitational Gold Cup, based out of Palm Beach, Florida. With Keith Greenberg at the wheel of this Viking 80, Dave Anderson Jr. released three sailfish while Dave Meyer and Anthony Cummings each added a sail for 2nd Place Overall Billfish Release Boat and 2nd Place Dead Bait Release Boat. Salt’s angler Winston Wren weighed the Heaviest Tuna of the event with a 21-pound fish.  Nick McClelland caught the Heaviest Dolphin – a 22-pounder. Nick was fishing on the Valhalla 37 EOS. Enrique Tomeu, on the Viking 52 Big Dog, claimed the 2nd Place Dolphin. Chris Brandon won the Wahoo division with a 16-pound 'hoo while angling on the Viking 74 Osceola.

Viking Ladies First

The Viking Yacht Company and Marlin magazine, along with other industry leaders, created a team of female anglers to compete in the 2023 Quest for the Crest sailfish tournament series. The goal of Marlin’s Lady Angler team is to help create more awareness of female anglers in competitive fishing tournaments. This team consists of women spanning all skill levels. They are not only passionate anglers, several are prominent members of the marine industry as well, ranging from boatbuilding and sales to tournament directors and pro staff members. We are particularly proud of team member Shelby Callison. Shelby (above with headset) is the Sales Coordinator and Office Manager for Valhalla Boat Sales in Riviera Beach, Florida, and knows her way around a cockpit. She was this year’s Top Lady Angler at the Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Tournament and was recently named The Billfish Foundation’s 2022 Top Tagging Lady Angler in South Florida.  “It’s an absolute blast to be a part of an all-female team,” says Shelby. “We all go out with the same goal – catch fish and have fun. And our sponsors have been amazing. Viking Yachts, Marlin magazine, Pelagic Gear and Bucked Up Energy have supported us with the best of everything.”

Viking 60th Masters

The first release of the prestigious 60th annual International Masters Angling Tournament was a precursor of things to come for our own Pat Healey as he released a sailfish with a fight time of just three minutes and 15 seconds. After three wild days of fishing, Pat was presented the 2023 Master Angler John Rybovich Award. Pat, Viking CEO and President, also scored the most fish on time. His 12 releases earned him a hat trick as he won The Masters back to back in 2011 and 2012. Pat now has his eyes set on Chase Offield (Valhalla 37 owner) who has won the event an incredible four times.  Karen Comstock, owner of the Viking 72 Drag ‘n Fish, was awarded Third High Angler honors, a Masters first for a lady angler. The Second High Boat went to the Viking 64 Team Galati captained by Tony Carrizosa and Third High Boat was the Viking 58 Dealers Choice with captain Scotty Jones. Dale Creamer, owner of the Viking 72 Ditch Digger, released what is thought to be the first black marlin of The Masters. “This was my freshman year fishing The Masters,” said JC Gonzalez, owner of the Viking 55 Pura Vida. “The fishing was great and the boats and crews were amazing. The trophy was meeting some of the most professional, humble and amazing people my wife and I have ever met. I can’t explain how grateful I am to be invited to fish this wonderful tournament.”  The Masters, fished this year in Los Suenos, Costa Rica, is the ultimate test of an angler’s skills. Fought in dead boat conditions, the captain is only permitted to turn the boat to maintain the angler’s proper fishing position. Competitors are rewarded points for their fish if released in less than 10 minutes, while a broken line is penalized with deducted points. Each competitor fishes on a different boat with a new captain each day.

Viking Pelagic Rock Star

When the Fish Tank crew received an invitation to fish the exclusive Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Tournament but had no boat since their Viking 64 is in production, Team Galati stepped in with their demo – a loaded Viking 64 built to raise fish.  Working together, Team Galati and Team Fish Tank came out on top with 42 sailfish to win the Billfish Release division and Champion Trophy. Carmine Galati and Thomas “Smalls” Garmany each released 11 sailfish; Laura Jensen released nine; Drew McDowell released five; and Chris Jensen and Joe West each released three. Tony Carrizosa and Ben Horning manned the helm.  Wine Time, a Viking 58, claimed 2nd Place in the Tuna division with Mark Doyle and Brian Bueso each weighing a fish. Fishing on the Viking 55 Pura Vida, Mike Braccia and Evan Alonso each hooked up to win the Dorado division. Lisa McGlone was the 3rd Place Lady Angler with 12 releases on the Viking 62 Gringo Honeymoon.  The 7th annual Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Tournament made Costa Rican and Central American sportfishing history two years running. With a record-setting 94 teams and 553 anglers releasing 1,131 billfish for more than $1.3 million in prize money, the Pelagic Rockstar solidified its place in tournament fishing history as the largest and richest fishing competition in Central America.

Viking at Signature Triple Crown Leg II

During the Signature Triple Crown Leg II, a mix of Vikings spent time on the top three spots of the leaderboard such as Ragin Cajun, Dealers Choice, Team Galati and War Party. But it was Eight Eights that stayed there – and won. Jill and Scott Yates’ Viking 72 took the Daily on Day One and kept the momentum rolling. The team released four marlin and 19 sails for the win.  Going into the final leg of the series, the Viking 64 Team Galati is in 2nd Place, the Viking 68 Ohana is in 3rd Place and Eight Eights is 4th Place. Leg III kicks off March 21!

Viking at 2023 Chub Cay Classic

Following Seas, Kirk Kellogg’s Viking 58, claimed top honors at the 2023 Chub Cay Classic. With Charlie Vanderbeck at the wheel, Following Seas released a blue and white marlin to top the field of 17 boats. The Viking 80 Krazy Salt’s claimed 2nd Place followed by the Viking 52 Shake Down in 3rd.
