Project: Sarnico 65 Special

Flagship of the Sarnico range of sports cruiser and yachts, the 65 is proposed in a new updated “Special” version. The interiors of the boat have been completely redesigned in order to offer an even more comfortable and pleasant owner suite. The owner’s cabin now covers a wider surface, in correspondence to the centre of the hull, where the boat is more steady. The open space is made even larger by the new side window, that changes the look of the sides and allows a spectacular panoramic view. The furniture is built in order to increase the wardrobe volume. The suite is completed by a true bathroom, provided with a broad shower box. Of course the other characteristics and the whole quality remain unchanged. The guests may comfortably stay in the VIP bow cabin or in the stern one, with independent access from the cockpit and completely isolated from the saloon, for a better privacy. Both cabins have direct en-suite bathrooms, each one provided with shower box. The salon maintains enough space to host a living space with a table and a fully equipped galley. The crew cabin and a hallway with all household appliances complete the accommodation deck layout. Key elements of the success remain the sharp line and the hard top, whose frontal opening, starting from the upper side of the windshield, enables to air the cockpit and fully appreciate the speed sensation from the piloting position. Although sporty, the Sarnico 65 always shows a clear elegance which makes it standing out from the other boats of similar typology. Despite the dimensions and the displacement top speed is of 39 knots with two 1360hp engines.

New Model: Benetti 85 Legend

The new Benetti 85 Legend is the the new entry for the prestigious Viareggio builder fleet, enriching the wide selection offered by this famous constructor. This time, Benetti focuses on a mostly private use of the yacht, enabling ship owners who want to buy it to drive it personally, enjoying a special sense of privacy. Going on board the 85 Legend you will be surprised by the large and functional rooms, which are worthy of the standards of the big yachts of Benetti’s fleet, as the extensive use of wood, precious marble and steel testifies. It has been conceived for the owner and for his family, but its layout includes three cabins beside the one for the ship owner, which is located on the main deck, allowing the presence of up to eight guests on board: a full beam VIP cabin with two large windows which enable to enjoy the view from within the boat, and two stern cabins - each equipped with two beds, one of which is a large single bed - designed with two large windows. The real surprise is represented by the external environments, designed with a very wide sun deck which allows complete relaxation, offered also by the retractable sunshade with the double function of providing protection, thanks to its water tightness, as well during sudden rainfalls which characterize also the Mediterranean summer. If the owner decides for a crew managed motor yacht, it is also possible to host up to three people in two of the cabins, whose rooms, include a large dinette, have been designed on the stern not to interfere with the life of guests on board. Powerboat P1 - King of Shaves and Roscioli Hotels Roma win P1 World Championship

The Powerboat P1 2007 season wrote its final paragraph in the fabulous location of Portimao in Portugal. This was a year made of 6 Grand Prix in 6 different countries and there seaside locations offered a total of 12 races available of which 3 had been cancelled. The 2ND race in Malta and final 12Th race in Portugal where cancelled due to rough sea conditions. Race no.5 in Germany was cancelled due to the tragic incident between Italian Team Carpenter No.03 from SuperSport Class and Italian Metamarine Corse Fainplast No.64 in Evolution. This incident took the life of driver and team manager Sergio Carpentieri from Italy.
Evolution Class
King of Shaves won the Portugal Portimao Grand Prix to finally secure the 2007 title. Challenger and 2006 champion OSG finished second and other challenger Lucas Oil Outerlimits suffered a broken motor and had to retire from the race. This was still a great race and the Italian team SIP which presented itself as a wild card in this race, managed a surprising third podium finish. Our hope is to see more of this team next year as they seem to have good potential. The 2007 winner have showed a superior pace taking into consideration that this title win comes minus a Grand Prix in Malta, which King of Shaves missed. Well done to British team No.99 King of Shaves and there Ilmor powered USA built Fountain powerboat piloted by James Sheppard and Craig Wilson.
SuperSport Class This highly competitive production class started with some drama out of the race course in the last and final weekend of the Powerboat P1 championship in Portugal, as the P1 Management announced the British team of Extremeboat the removal of there important winning points in Belgium. This decision put Italian Roscioli Hotels Roma back to the lead of the championship and on track to win the 2007 season in this final race. Buzzi Bullet followed at second place with 80 points and Extremeboat found themselves in third place, minus 140 points. This chart previous to the Grand Prix was like a prediction of the future as the first three places in the Portugal race finished in this order. Still the race was far from easy and Roscioli Hotels managed the lead only after Extremeboat suffered a broken trim during the race. Buzzi Bullet did a final assault but was to no avail as Roscioli Hotels took over the race and the championship. Well done to Italian team no.44 Racing Project Roscioli Hotels Roma and there Mercruiser powered Malta built Chaudron powerboat piloted by Angelo Tedeschi, Fabio Magnani and Ugo Pellegrino. www.powerboatp1.com

Monthly News - September 2007

- pic of the month - Viking Yachts new building

Aicon Group takes over Morgan Boats

Aicon Group, the Italian company renowned for building high quality motor yachts situated in Messina, on the Island of Sicily listed in the Milan Stock exchange, has agreed in the purchase of the Morgan Lobster Boat brand. This English brand famous for the build of high quality lobster boats owned by Leopoldo Rodriguez is now part of the Aicon Group.

Azimut-Benetti Group Growing Strategy

Azimut-Benetti Group outlined plans for further development at the start of the Cannes International Boat Show. The company, whose brands include Azimut, Atlantis, Benetti and Fraser Yachts, says that it intends to launch another 25 new models over the next three years while continuing to expand its global geographic coverage. In order to support the growth, Azimut-Benetti will invest some €220 million on the expansion of its production facilities during 2008-2010. The money will also be used to support innovations in processes and products, as well as research & development, particularly in the field of fuel cell technology. Azimut will launch another 15 models in the next three years and has already opened a new facility in Savona, Italy, to accommodate the increase in production. Today, Azimut has a sales network that covers 130 locations in more than 60 countries worldwide. In 2007, the company entered emerging markets such as China, India, South Korea and South Africa, and the strategy has already paid off with a number of orders registered in the Far East. In the last month alone, two Azimut 103s have been sold in Mumbai and Hong Kong, two 116-footers were sold in Singapore and Hong Kong, and a 68-footer and 98-footer were sold in Shanghai and Dalien respectively. The Cannes conference ended with confirmation from Paolo Vitelli, president of The Azimut-Benetti Group, that current year closed with a production value in excess of €800 million. The group's order book has reached more than €1.5 billion, and orders for superyachts over 24m (79ft) represented a total length of some 11,800ft.

Fairline reveals strong order book

UK's Fairline Boats has announced that, for the first time in its 40-year history, the company has received advanced deposited orders of more than £100 million. It also boasts an order book that includes seven confirmed sales for its flagship 24.4m Squadron 78 in the last two months alone. Following the launch of the new Targa 44 and the Targa 64 Gran Turismo at the Cannes and Southampton boat shows last week, the company has since received 40 confirmed orders for the Targa 44 prior to its world debut and is seeing strong demand for its 11-boat range across the globe.

Ferretti Group Order Book

Ferretti Group announced during the Cannes Boat Show that its order book for the 2006-07 nautical year exceeded €1 billion, resulting in a 25 per cent increase over the previous year. Production value grew by double digits to almost €1 billion, and overall profitability also increased by two figures. Over the last three years, Ferretti also invested more than €130 million on developing new products and increasing its production capacity.

Itama never ending Legend

The decisive entry into the Ferretti Group in October 2004, company management taken over by Pershing, fundamental innovations in production processes, a unique design and broad-ranging marketing strategy. These, in a nutshell, are the main ingredients of the successful recipe concocted by Itama, which in the past few seasons has achieved a decisive stride forward in terms of reputation, sales and consolidated prestige, for one of the brands symbolizing Italian style and craftsmanship in the luxury yachting sector. An acceleration of such entity as to prompt an immediate, more than positive response from the market: over 50 craft sold between the Forty and FiftyFive models, the two standard bearers of the new range. As well as gratifying acknowledgements from the sector, as in the case of the Cannes Festival de la Plaisance, where the new Itama FiftyFive earned the prestigious World Yacht Trophy 2006 - awarded by Yachts Magazine - in the “50’-60’ Open” category.

Magnum Marine not sold

News which appeared on the Italian media was quickly denied by Ms.Katrin Theodoli. The news said that the Theodoli family sold 80% in the holding of Magnum Marine to an Italian business pool. The Theodori family denied these rumors and have declared that the company has not been sold and is totally independent which allows for no compromise and the best works in design and quality for it’s line of fast high performance sports cruiser and yachts.

Riva full steam ahead

An amazing success marked the beginning of the nautical year 2007/08 for Riva. The boat shows that opened the season, held in Cannes from 12th to 17th September and in Monaco from 19th to 22nd, confirmed the exponential growth trend of the last 5 years. In less than two weeks, in fact, the whole 2008 production and a good portion of the 2009’s have already been booked. Among these, there are also some units of the new model Riva is going to officially launch on the market only in August 2008 and of whom the first contracts referring to 2010 production have already been signed. An extraordinary success immediately achieved the brand new SportRiva 56. For the model previewed in Cannes there is already a waiting list until September 2009. The classics Aquariva, Rivarama and Rivale, together with the 75’ Venere, confirmed themselves as top sellers also for the next season, while there’s great attendance around the Super version of another successful model, the 68’ Ego that will be officially launched in May 2008. This positive trend, begun after the joining of the Ferretti Group in 2000, contributed to grant Riva a worldwide leadership position in the luxury yachts market.

Sealine with Axius Stern Drive System

Axius, an innovative stern drive control system developed by Mercury Marine, made its debut at the 2007 Southampton International Boat Show fitted to the award-winning Sealine SC29 sports cruiser. Axius provides unparalleled maneuverability and significantly improved performance for stern drive boats. The joystick system of Axius dramatically simplifies boat handling, including mooring, allowing a novice driver to operate and even moor a boat with virtually the same ease as an experienced boater. Axius was developed by the MerCruiser division of Mercury Marine and employs SmartCraft Joystick Docking technology. The Axius control system is based on technology originally developed by Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (a joint venture between Mercury MerCruiser and Cummins) for the Zeus pod propulsion system.

Sessa record growth

Sessa Marine close the year with a record growth, the turnover from September 1st to August 31st is around 55 million euro: 26% more than the previous year. The highest growth of last years and one of the highest in the nautical sector. Ambitious plans also for next season turnover, with a forecast of 75 million euro, 30% more increase compared to 2007 and doubling results of only three years ago. The performances too are better than last year; with more than 7 millions euro equal to 14% of the sales. Most of these results have been obtained thanks to the success of the flagship of the Cruiser line: C52 and C42, whilst for the future, Sessa Marine expects great performances from two boats presented during last spring: the Key Largo 36, the flagship of the Open line and the C46, born last May and in production from September 2007 and already sold out for next season.

Sunseeker reports record breaking results

New results from Sunseeker International have crowned another spectacular year for the company, the largest privately-owned motoryacht manufacturer in the world. Annual sales are up to a record-breaking £240 million – an uplift of 18.5% on last year’s figures of £202 million. At the same time, the company’s operating profit has risen to £12.5 million, an increase of £7.3 million. The company puts its success down to a simple philosophy – doing things differently. One example of this is their continual investment in the design of new models, particularly larger boats. The year saw the launch of the 37 Metre Yacht to huge acclaim. The first Yacht was built to specific international codes and has been granted an unrestricted classification, the highest for a production-built yacht. With eight orders secured, the company is extremely confident of the model’s long-term success. Investment has also been pumped into production sites. An 11.5 acre site was acquired in March at Osprey Quay in Portland, Dorset, while further expansion is underway at New Quay Road, Poole, with the building of two new shipyards. These facilities will increase the production capabilities to meet the growing demand for models over 100 feet. To support this activity, both sites will benefit from new giant 300 tonne travel hoists. As well as expanding its production capabilities, Sunseeker has increased its workforce to a record 2,000 employees while retaining existing skilled staff with excellent benefits packages and working conditions. There’s also the fact that Sunseeker exports 98% of its product worldwide, which mean the company can ride economic dips in any local markets. The outstanding export success was rewarded earlier in the year by a fifth Queen’s Award for Enterprise, recognition of the hard work and commitment of the company’s staff and global dealer network. With a full order book, the coming year looks just as promising. The forecast is in the region of £265 million, with an operating profit of £15.5 million. Sunseeker International goes from strength to strength.

Sunseeker staff rewarded

Staff at Sunseeker International will share a £1.8 million bonus scheme for helping the Dorset-based company achieve record sales of £240 million and an operating profit of £12.5 million. As staff levels at the privately-run company continue to rise, the payment is an additional bonus to the team at Sunseeker based on length of service. According to the company’s founder and managing director Robert Braithwaite, CBE, Sunseeker staff are highly valued and their benefit to the company’s extraordinary growth is being recognised. Sunseeker’s exceptionally high standards mean it is constantly investing in the business and looking after its employees. Highly-skilled craftsmen of the calibre it requires are much in demand and the company offers a great package of staff benefits. This includes long-term security, competitive salaries, private healthcare, pension and regular overtime.

Tecnomar appoints new Commercial Director

Maurizio Magri, buisness man and manager with great experience in the high end nautical field, has decided to enter and be a shareholder and follow the path Tecnomar has decided to take for the future. He will be the new commercial director for Yacht builder specialized in high performance open Velvet and flybridge Nadara motoryachts.

Viking New Building

Under a late summer deep blue sky and President Bill Healey’s watchful eyes, the final steel girder completing the framework for a new 120,000 square feet building was hoisted 55 feet in to the air and placed in position with a massive crane. An American flag attached to the girder waved smartly in the breeze as Viking employees applauded the milestone. The new addition, part of Viking Yachts’ ongoing expansion plans, will join two existing buildings which house the executive and administrative offices, the warehouse, the metal shop and the four production lines. Designed to enhance efficiencies in operation, the two production lines where the 74, 68, 64 and 60 Convertibles are built will move into the new addition known as Building 2N. A 50-foot tall mezzanine with elevator service will separate these two production lines from the remaining two lines where the 56, 54, 52, 48 and 45 models are built. The newly created space will afford a better working and less cluttered environment for boat building. Viking also plans to move its five-axis profiler into the new building. Capable of carving mold components up to 60-feet long by 20-feet wide by 10-feet tall, the new structure will create the ideal climate for the company to focus on upcoming models like the 82 Convertible. Viking will have the new building in operation by December 2007.

Viking Service Receives Clean Boatyard Certification

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) along with the Clean Boating Partnership has conferred its “Clean Boatyard” status to the Viking Yacht Company’s service facility in Riviera Beach, Florida. The Viking Yachts Service Center is the first boatyard to receive this recognition in Palm Beach County and is the 26th in the state to meet the requirements of the Clean Boatyard Program. Bill Richards, Clean Marina Coordinator of the Florida DEP presented a plaque and the green, blue and white Clean Boatyard flag to Viking’s President and CEO, Bill Healey at a presentation ceremony at the facility on Thursday September 20. According to Richards, it takes 18 months for an applicant to work through the requisites of the completely voluntary process to achieve this status. According to DEP Southeast Director, Jack Long, Viking qualified for this certification by developing emergency spill plans, employee training programs and chemical management procedures, which help prevent damage to the environment. The Service Center, which opened in February 2002, is located on the Intracoastal Waterway just minutes from the Palm Beach Inlet. Formerly a dilapidated marina, Viking tore down the existing structure, removed the rotting docks and built an entirely new facility with floating concrete docks, a 150-ton Travelift, a three-story office building and a second stand-alone building with 50 feet overhead clearance for tower boats. Designed to cater to its owners, Viking is the only U.S. manufacturer with a satellite facility devoted exclusively for their convenience. Family owned and operated since the company was founded in 1964, Viking is no stranger to environmental commitment. At its manufacturing headquarters on the Bass River in New Gretna, New Jersey, about 30 minutes north of Atlantic City, the company is busy with plant expansions and renovations which include its own on-site waste-water treatment plant and has erected a 165 feet tall test tower in anticipation of installing a wind turbine to supply the company’s electrical needs. Many of the components in its boats are now produced with a resin infusion process to eliminate emissions. Since 1988, Viking has converted its wood scraps into briquettes, which are fed into a dual-fuel (oil or wood) furnace on demand. The furnace burns the wood at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, a combustion level that produces clean burning methane gas. The water heated by the process is then circulated through the radiant heat system embedded in the plant’s concrete floors and through-wall radiators to warm the plant during winter months.

Boat Review: Magnum 70 Sport

Presentation
Stretched version of the Magnum 63, the Magnum 70 is the evolution in size but also in comfort for the prestigious American brand. Advised by many experts as one of the best powerboats and poweryachts ever built, Magnum was founded in 1966 by Don Aronow and immediately became a status symbol of American Boat construction and reliability when the 27 and 35 both became World Offshore champions in Open Class Racing. As the recent models of the line the Magnum 70 was designed by Pininfarina and is available in 3 different versions: Sport, Hardtop and Flybridge. Obviously our attention goes to the successful Sport version which is all about Magnum heritage from head to tow.
Accommodation
Standard interior layout for the 70 is a spacious 3 double cabin offer. A spacious Master cabin is situated forward and all cabins feature en-suite heads. The saloon is located mid-ship and features a spacious C-shaped settee to port with a stylish cabinet unit opposite. A galley is located separately to starboard. A separate 2 berth crew cabin with shower head is located forward with entrance from a hatch on deck. Still this layout can be taken as it is, as Magnum offers a custom approach to all it's new builds where clients desires are placed first, so one can modify inside as he wishes.
The Cockpit of the Magnum is open as you can get with a huge central sunbed aft, c-shaped settee to starboard, wet-bar to port and the fully equipped racing style helm to starboard. Magnum has on standard layout a mentality of spacious spaces rather then plenty of beds or cabinets in it's boats, something which is to like if you use it a lot and is very different to recent trend in most similar sized sport yachts.
Performance
Deep V-hull with 25 degrees aft, superb ride with surface drives giving 52 knots of top speed. Magnum are renowned as the best in the class for there performance and sea handling and this fame is not build in a day but in forty years of successful seaworthy and strong boats constructed. The 70 hull shape is a further extension and development from the successful 63, a winning powerboat sport yacht who two times won the Miami Nassau Miami. The 63 reached speeds over 80 mph in these races, beating smaller but also much faster boats. The Magnum 70 at 21 meters feels easy to drive and most of all gives a sense of speed and safety very few boats manage to achieve. Try it to believe it.

Competition
If you are looking for a 21 meters sport yacht with an open cockpit no enclosed hardtop and surface drives there is very little to look nowadays. Future competition might come from the Itama 70 Seventy which might offer the right competition mix to this now abandoned market sector cause of the more requested integrated hardtop. Here is what you can look for:
Baia 70 Italia - hardtop opens all, semi-custom, Arneson drives
Bruno Abbate Primatist 70 G Aerotop Pininfarina - hardtop design, Trimax Buzzi drives
Italcraft 70 Drago - not fully enclosed ht available, Top System surface drives, seaworthy
Pershing 72 - new 2007, enclosed but hydraulics open as you wish, Arneson drives
WILD CARD: WallyPower 73 - modern, alternative, jet powered, glass hardtop
Conclusion
People choose Magnum most of all for its superb ride in the tough and for one of the best handling with the Arneson surface drives. Magnum where among the first to use the Arneson Drives back in the eighties and I am sure there experience in this type of transmission was made to good use. Pininfarina Design continued the heritage of the classic lines for this brand, but added softer lines like the windshield and aggressive touches in the air intakes on deck and in the sides which have USA classic written over them. The Magnum 70 is a performing sport yacht but is also comfortable and still offers very good accommodation inside and outside which would is hard to believe when you see the lines of this 21 meters sport yacht.

New Model: Riva 56 SportRiva

Launched on the 9th of August during the Riva Gala in Porto Cervo, the new Riva 56 SportRiva is one of the most expected models to feature in the coming Autumn shows, due to it's innovative exterior design of a sport flybridge yacht. While sport flybridge boats are increasing in the last period, especially over the 25 metres plus dimension on the open sports yacht style, in the 17 metre size this is a new concept and the SportRiva captures this spirit and invents a design philosophy. With this model I remember of past models from the glorious yacht builder, like the 42 Caribe or the 34 Portofino. Again the Sarnico Riva reinvents motor yachting.

Powerboat P1 - Belgium Grand Prix of the Sea, Kings of Shaves & Extremeboat extend lead

1 Grand Prix 2 races -110 points for Roscioli Hotels Roma to try and win Supersport 2007 title
Same Script for OSG 2006 Evolution Class winner but - 130 points
The P1 weekend in Belgium was an action packed competitive offer in both classes and unusual to previous races in the 2007 season, we finally had a different winner in the same venue, as Lucas Oil Outerlimits won Race 2 in Evolution Class. Extremeboat continue to extend there championship lead in the production Supersport Class as they won both races as they did in Britain 2 weeks ago. It was a weekend for the title challengers to gain important points in there respective classes, but the leaders ended the Belgium Grand Prix with more confidence as ever, extending there lead with more points as both came out as winners in this fifth penultimate round.
Race 1
Conditions contributed to a high attrition rate and only two boats completed the course with OSG second despite suffering a broken hull. The Way to Happiness finished third, the first points finish of the season for this Italian team. Points and a podium must surely be the way to happiness! The main protagonists in Evolution, King of Shaves, OSG and Lucas Oil Outerlimits made a storming start with all three reaching the first buoy together. OSG, the reigning world champions, knew that to improve their title challenge they would need to finish ahead of championship leaders, King of Shaves. The same could be said of Lucas Oil and both boats set the early pace, OSG taking the lead. Behind them, King of Shaves was settling into an early rhythm and by the end of the first lap the Ilmor-powered Fountain was leading with Lucas Oil Outerlimits closely following. It was 'nip and tuck' all the way and once the Italian OSG boat backed off a two-boat battle ensued. It was a fascinating race between these two arch rivals in which the lead changed hands four times before the half way point when Lucas Oil Outerlimits started to take control. Then drama! As the American boat entered the home straight for the final lap it suddenly slowed as the fuel ran out, King of Shaves re-took the lead with OSG in pursuit. For the Belgian entry, Limmi Offshore, it was not the dream home race as technical problems forced the team to retire on lap 3.
A racing masterclass on ExtremeBoat, secured the husband and wife team its third consecutive SuperSport win in the first leg of the Powerboat P1 Belgian Grand Prix of the Sea. The Mercury-powered Dragon boat was clearly on a mission from the moment the start flag dropped, taking the lead at the first buoy and forging ahead of the field to increase its championship lead. Only Roscioli Hotels Roma, the Italian title challenger was able to stay within striking distance and its well deserved second place finish. VoomVoom.com, deservedly took third place, the first diesel powered boat to cross the chequered flag, with the FPT-powered Sunseeker crossing the line in fourth. The distinctive Rigid Inflatable of 'wild card' entry Flanders Offshore Racing, provided great entertainment for the enthusiastic home crowd crossing the finish in fifth place.
Race 2
Fountain Worldwide took the Powerboat P1 Belgian Grand Prix of the Sea, following up on Race One victory with a fifth place on the second leg. The pair's early pace and front-line battle with the American Lucas Oil-Outerlimits would however end by lap three when the boat lost power in one engine and with it any chance of a race win. The drama continued as they crossed the finishing line, losing power in the second. Lucas Oil Outerlimits, completed an impressive days racing, securing victory in today's second leg and with it third in the Grand Prix. The win from German team Searex and Italians OSG was a major boost for the team but its title ambitions are no more following yesterday's disappointment when, with a commanding lead, the boat ran out of fuel just one lap from the chequered flag. OSG, the defending champions from Naples, Italy demonstrated once again why they are so highly respected as racers and sportsmen. as on Race One, the boat was badly broken in the choppy seas and effectively ended the team's championship challenge. But true champions do not know defeat and if the maths stack-up OSG, will continue to fight for points. The team worked all night to patch up the damage and whilst not at peak performance they managed to bring the boat home in third to secure second place in the Grand Prix and keep their championship hopes alive. King of Shaves now has a lead over OSG of 150 points in the fight for the world championship with only the Portuguese Grand Prix to contest. Having failed to start yesterday, the German entry of Searex showed the performance of their 42ft Fountain powered by Mercury engines by taking an early lead and later re-taking it when Lucas Oil appeared to be about to forge ahead. It was a brilliant racing performance, surprising many of the championship front runners and proving that their pre-race testing on the Baltic's choppy waters would pay dividends in today's rough conditions. SIF, the Italian wild card entry demonstrated the competitiveness of their diesel powered wild card entry, always in contention with the leaders and finishing a creditable fourth on the day. ExtremeBoat, the British Dragon boat won the Powerboat P1 Belgian Grand Prix of the Sea, its double win moves the team into a commanding position in the SuperSport World Championship with just the Portuguese Grand Prix remaining. The lead changed hands no fewer than four times in today's shorter race. The diesel-powered Voom Voom, where very close to have the first win of the season and only a last lap navigational blip prevented this to happen. The choppy seas and blustery conditions had forced a late change to the course layout and a 30 minute delay. Boosted by their performances in yesterday's first leg, VoomVoom and ExtremeBoat made the early pace, followed closely by Roscioli Hotels Roma, Buzzi Bullet and Sun Lik Beer. These five are the championship's leading boats and a 'ding dong' battle was always on the cards as the season builds to its climax. It was a day for the diesels, all of whom featured strongly. In Belgium first leg, Roscioli Hotels Roma, suffered propeller damage and this clearly affected their attempts to overhaul the leading boats. In the circumstances a third place today and runners-up spot in the two-legged Grand Prix was an excellent effort. VoomVoom took third spot overall and have now appeared on the podium at the last two events. The focus now switches to the final event of the season in Portimao, Portugal over the weekend of the 29/30 September where the championship will be decided. For the third consecutive season the titles will be claimed in the final weekend of the season, a reflection on the competitiveness of Powerboat P1. In Evolution Class OSG have shown that they can still challenge a title till the last race even if this was not there best of seasons. In Supersport, ExtremeBoat has established a strong lead, its main contenders, Italian team Roscioli Hotels Roma and the British Buzzi Bullet are still within striking distance.

Another exclusive first on PowerYacht, this time it's the new Aicon 75 Flybridge. So before you see it in the coming events and shows, remember that it was here first. The Aicon 75 Flybridge is a smart motor yacht with a modern design approach, showing minimal touches in some details like the forward pilothouse window and the radar arch, which for the pictured hull number one was equipped with a hard top. From my view I can also say that it has one of the most spacious flybridge of the category as it looks really big for a 23 mtr motor yacht, which would testify what is said on the Aicon website as being the focal point of the yacht. This brand new Aicon features 4 spacious cabins all with en-suite heads and 2 crew cabins for 3 members sharing 1 bathroom. The main deck has an innovative design especially in the sociable living area with 2 saloon settees on either side, looking forward you find the dining area with an 8 person dining table. The galley is in the middle being an innovative feature as this is usually on the side and creates a separation between the two areas, living and working creating superior comfort for the guests and people onboard.

Powerboat P1 - Belgium Grand Prix of the Sea Preview

Pen-ultimate round of the 2007 season, the Zeebrugge Belgium Grand Prix seem to be held at the pinnacle of this highly competitive P1 championship, where winning is going to be very important. The races at Cowes changed the championship charts with some additional surprises to add to the already high competitiveness of this season.
In Evolution Class, King of Shaves are still ahead but with OSG following nothing is sure. OSG had a very difficult season, winning only one race on the table in Malta. They had also a trouble race in Naples when there boat was sinking. Other important close contenders for the Evolution are Wettpunkt.com and Lucas Oil Outerlimits winner of the last British Grand Prix. Italian Kiton and Fainplast had a disappointing season, with speed and good weather being the main concern for the 2 highly expected sister boats.
Supersport Class or should we call it highly competitive production class. Roscioli Hotels Roma after dominating for half of the season found themselves in 3rd place, 50 points behind leaders and UK Grand Prix winners Extremeboat and only 10 points behind Buzzi Bullet, standing at second. On fourth place we find Chinese entry Sun Lik Beer who also seem to have upped there game and speed in this closely fought final part of the season. Disappointment so far for Sunseeker Challenger, who don't seem to have found the right set up.

The Beneteau 52 Swift Trawler will be the flagship for the power motor boat range of the famous French builder. This classic live aboard style motor yacht is a nice cross over offering the comfort of power and joy of sailing lovers alike, as Beneteau has come up with the right link from both worlds. Superior interior volumes and maximum use of space, spacious saloon with galley, 3 cabin 2 heads interior, full beam owners cabin, crew cabin aft, well sized flybridge, tender stowage on fly, walk around deck and separate forward deck. Exterior design are for a classic trawler looks as compared to the already introduced 42 in the range. Engine power is for 2 x 575 HP, which estimates similar cruising speeds to the younger Swift Trawler of 18 knots. The 37 Monte Carlo Hard Top is the semi covered cockpit version for this successful sports cruiser model. Italian designer Pierangelo Andreani designed a stylish hard top on the lines of this model creating an alternative offer of what is becoming the rule for open Mediterranean motor boats. The weight increase for this design feature is 400 kg bringing the total weight for 7470 kg. Power comes from Volvo Stern drive D4 2 x 260 HP or the optional 2 x 300 HP. New addition to Beneteau range of Mediterranean style Monte Carlo sports cruiser is the new 32. Designed as the bigger 37 by Pierangelo Andreani, he follows the trend shown for the bigger sister and uses design themes like integrated wind shield, low profile radar arch, classic round side port holes and the red hull color. Cockpit space is very generous for a boat this size and the interior offers 4 berth accommodation with a separate cabin mid ship, separate shower head and a galley. Standard power are 2 x Volvo 270 HP DPS D5.7 Petrol, optional for a more cruiser friendly Diesel 2 x Volvo's D3 190 HP is available.
