Flybridge Cruiser Wrecked by Fire in Capo Gallo, Palermo

A flybridge cruiser of about thirteen meters in length went ablaze at the Motomar Shipyard in Capo Gallo, Palermo at 10:20 of Sunday fifth January.  The flybridge cruiser was not attended during the fire, with the Vigili dell Fuoco fire fighters responding to the blaze with two fire engine trucks.  A sport cruiser located to the starboard of the boat on fire also sustained cosmetic fire damage.  The fire was ultimately controlled, although the boat in question ended wrecked, as all its main deck was destroyed by the fire.  An investigation was opened by the local Police to determine what could have started the blaze.

Propulsion: ZF POD 4900

ZF is extending its pod propulsion range with the new POD 4900. Designed for larger commercial and recreational vessels measuring up to 150 feet, the system is compatible with engines up to 2000hp at 2,450 RPM. Through close cooperation among the three companies, ZF’s POD 4900 first launched on the Azimut Grande 30M superyacht as part of a highly integrated power pack by Rolls-Royce Power Systems. When ZF unveiled its first pod propulsion system, the POD 4600, at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2022, the company made quite a splash. Since market launch, ZF has delivered more than thirty systems to shipyards worldwide. With the POD 4900, ZF builds upon its experience as a technology leader, extending the power range upwards to provide the perfect solution for larger vessels measuring 24 to 45 meters. The POD 4900 is compatible with engines up to 2000hp at 2,450 RPM, a maximum of 6,107 Nm of input torque, and a typical speed range of 20 to 35 knots. The POD 4900’s first application will be onboard the Azimut Grande 30M superyacht. ZF worked closely with both the Italian shipbuilder and Rolls-Royce Power Systems, who designed highly integrated power packs including the ZF propulsion system. All in all, two units will deliver 1,920 HP each. Depending on vessel type and size, the POD 4900 system can be installed in a twin, triple, or quadruple layout. Its large gear reduction ratio allows for larger counter-rotating propellers. This helps to massively increase its efficiency by up to twenty percent in comparison to shaft-line propulsion systems in the same power range. The improved efficiency also means reduced engine dimensions, resulting in more onboard spaces for accommodation. Thanks to its broad steering angle and its integration with ZF’s TotalCommand and Joystick steering solutions, the POD 4900 enables unique ease of operation and smooth manoeuvring. Like its smaller sibling, the POD 4900 features an optimized hydrodynamic design with corrosion-resistant housing from nickel aluminium bronze and stainless steel. Likewise, its elastic connection to the hull considerably reduces vibrations and noise, leading to more comfort onboard. ZF has not only continued to develop its pod propulsion system over the last three years but also achieved all main approval certifications from maritime authorities worldwide. The POD 4900 is certified for up to 3,000 hours of operations per year. In addition to large pleasure and leisure craft, the propulsion system is therefore rated for medium commercial applications, like windfarm or crew transfer vessels and ferries.

Crazy Yacht Crashes Into Moored Yacht in Dana Point, California

An explorer yacht of seventeen meters in length crashed into a moored Galeon sport yacht first, and then also into a thirteen meter Viking sportfish cruiser at the main channel of the new docks in Dana Yacht Point marina, California on the afternoon of Tuesday ninth December.  According to CBS News reporting the owner of the yacht which collided into the two boats was learning how to operate the vessel, when he pushed the throttles by error, and with this sprinted his yacht ahead and colliding into the stern of the Galeon sport yacht which was moored on the head of the pier in the marina first and then also hitting a Viking sportfish cruiser on its port side.  The Harbour Master and Orange County Sheriff came following the collision, which was witnessed by other boaters, and crews working on nearby yachts.  No one was injured as the event was filmed and shared on all popular social media outlets.
The yacht which caused this collision is a Ocean Alexander 58 Pilothouse as produced from 2004 to 2014.  The moored yachts were a Galeon 510 Skydeck as designed by Tony Castro and produced since 2016, and a first generation Viking 45 Convertible as produced from 1987 to 1993.

Project: Santasevera 42 Sport

Santasevera will be premiering its second model, the 42, at Boot Düsseldorf 2026 in January.  As the newest addition to the Santasevera range, the 42-foot model continues the same design language as her larger sister and again comes from a design of Francesco Guida, designer and founder of the Italian brand.  Alongside the first hull which is the unit to be displayed at Boot, two additional units are currently in build.  Like its larger sister the Santasevera 42 features a sleek yet functional superstructure that provides excellent protection for most of the cockpit. This design choice significantly enhances onboard comfort and usability in all weather conditions.  The forward helm station ensures outstanding visibility and allows for an exceptionally spacious cockpit, which represents the heart of life on board.  Standout areas on this customisable yacht include a generous C-shaped sofa and galley cabinet in the living area, a relaxation zone with two chaise lounges, aft area with sun-pad, and a large swim platform. Below deck, maximum flexibility is maintained, with the forward cabin adaptable to the owner’s specific needs and featuring a day head. Robertson and Caine New Web Site

Robertson and Caine presents its new web site.  Robertson and Caine was founded by John Robertson and Jerry Caine in 1991 at Cape Town, South Africa.  John Robertson entered boat building in 1977 and founded John Robertson Yachts in 1981 building mostly custom race sail boats, while Jerry Caine founded Caine Custom Yachts in 1990.  At first Robertson and Caine starts by building custom racing yachts debuting with a 36 foot mono-hull.  Two years after the founding two Robertson and Caine build yachts will impress the racing circuit; the carbon fibre 70 foot Simonis designed Broomstick which will win the 1993 Cape to Rio International Yacht Race, and the Fast42 Orion Express, which lead to the attention of interested parties.  One of those impressed was charter operator Moorings, who will ask the builders if they were interested in building yachts for charter, and is followed by competing operation Sunsail.  Robertson and Caine takes this challenge and in 1997 launches its first sailing catamaran the Leopard 45 as designed by the still responsible designer's Simonis Voogd. The 45 is followed by the Leopard 38 a year later.  In 2000 Robertson and Caine will debut the Leopard Yachts brand, as before this most models were operated and sold under the Moorings or Sunsail name.  In 2002 Robertson and Caine Leopard debuts into power catamarans with the 46 PC model produced for three years in twelve units.  This is followed by its replacement the 47 PC in 2006, and the 37 PC in 2008.  In April 2025 Robertson and Caine delivered its three thousandth yacht, these delivered in nine power catamaran, and seventeen sailing catamarans from 38 to 62 foot in 28 years.  Robertson and Caine has also won 27 awards, the first coming in 1998, and four of these for the Power range. In 2000 Jerry Caine will leave to the other World following a motorcycle accident, with John Robertson managing the business alone.  Robertson and Caine will change ownership in 2015 sold to Capitalworks, and to Cypriot Vox Ventures a subsidiary of European investment firm PPF Group in 2023.  Currently Robertson and Caine produces six catamarans divided equally into the Sailing and Power ranges; with the range starting from the Leopard 40 PC, and going up to the Leopard 53 PC.  Robertson and Caine new web site takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Overview, Achievements, Manufacturing, News, Media, Careers, and Contact.
