New Model: Apreamare Maestro 88

Apreamare is pleased to announce that on Saturday August third a launch ceremony was held where the new Maestro 88 touched the sea for the first time.  The private celebration was attended by the owner, an Italian and an admirer of the Apreamare brand who already owns other boats by the Sorrentine shipyard. The owner brought his family and expressly requested the attendance of all the workers and suppliers who contributed with passion and dedication to the realization of this fascinating and ambitious project, in addition to the Apreamare management. The traditional christening ritual sealed the launch to the notes of the Mameli anthem, a song chosen to represent the essence of the all-Italian project, which proudly represents Made in Italy for the world to see.  The ceremony was a moment of great emotion for both the owner and the shipyard, testifying to the important milestone as summarized by CEO Rita Pollio and President Cataldo Aprea.  The Maestro 88 is the largest Apreamare to date, replacing the Maestro 82 as produced from 2008 to 2020 in ten units.  The new Maestro 88 represented a new challenge for the Sorrentine shipyard, for the architect Marco Casali and for the engineer Umberto Tagliavini. It is a totally custom-built vessel with a semi-planning hull that maintains the family feeling of the previous Maestro line while introducing profound stylistic and functional innovations.  27.10 meters long and 7 meters wide with a draft of 1.80 meters and a displacement at full load of 90 tons, the Maestro 88 is powered by two 1,650 horsepower MAN engines, capable of reaching a maximum speed of 22 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 10 knots. The owner of the first unit opted for more powerful 2,000 horsepower engines, perfectly balancing weight and power for long-range navigation in absolute comfort.  The exterior lines integrate perfectly with the bright interiors and large living spaces, which include a large beach club and a long sliding glass window on the main deck to bring the sea even closer. On the flybridge, there is a relaxation area, a galley with a wet-bar and solar panels. The interiors are completely customizable, available in configurations of up to four cabins and ample space for entertainment, all aimed at a superior quality of life on board, especially for long-range cruises.

Three Boaters Saved from Boat Fire in Peschici Italy

Three Croatian boaters were saved as an eleven meter sport cruiser went ablaze offshore to Foce Vargano, Peschici, Gargano park, on the Italian Adriatic sea at about 18:00 hours of Wednesday fourth September.   The boaters jumped in the water and were assisted by the m/v Onda of the Navi Tremiti line sailors, who took the three people onboard and then transported them to the Vieste harbour.  Once in Vieste the boaters were given a medical check by the 118 emergency personnel.  The sport cruiser is reported to have sunk after the fire, with the cause of the fire reported to start from a short circuit with the Port Captaincy of Rodi investigating the accident.
The boat in this fire is a Gagliotta Camaro Tris 12 metri as designed by its builder and produced from the mid eighties to the nineties.  The Camaro Tris was called this way for being powered by a triple Volvo diesel and stern drive set up, with the model replacing the wood build SG 12, and then replaced by the Gagliotta Camaro 43.

The 2024 Cannes boat show celebrates its 46th edition continuing a trend for a favourite place where glamour and luxury meet.  In 2024, the Cannes Yachting Festival will present a new area dedicated to new motor boats for sizes up to thirteen metres long, which is located in Port Canto, between the Sailing and Yacht Brokerage and Toys areas.  Last year numbers showed 55000 visitors, 705 boats in water, and 610 exhibitors from all round the globe. New Model: Italia Yachts 43 Veloce

Italia Yachts is the latest in a series of sail yacht builders which enter motor boating, and launch its first model the 43 Veloce in what looks to be a series of power cruisers and yachts.  Designed by Skyron studio from Bergamo, the 43 Veloce seems also the first motor boat of the young firm which debuted in 2017.  For its first motor boat both Italia Yachts and Skyron follow the current centre console trend, although unlike most of the competition she is not a full walk around sport cruiser with the deck raising at midships in order to offer more cabin space.  The living of the Italia Yachts Veloce is still located on the main deck, while the boat looks to be coming with standard drop down bulkheads to both port and starboard side, this increasing space.  All living is central located with a dual seat helm station, galley, dinette, and sun-pad. Up until the sunpad all is covered by the interestingly large T-top.  In the lower deck designed by Arbore and Partners the Italian Yacht offers accommodation for four persons, with a double berth forward, and twin berths at midships.  A shower head is located to port side.  The Italian Yachts 43 Veloce is powered by Volvo engines from twin 380hp up to 480hp, and or triple 300hp Mercury outboards.

Wajer Saves Sunseeker Boat on Fire in Mallorca

An eleven meter Sunseeker sport cruiser was saved from a fire during the photo and video shooting for the new Wajer 38 S outboard version in Mallorca.  It is an incredible story, which Wajer shared on its Instagram page on ninth September, though the first short videos of the shooting came out on the third.  As it happened Wajer was filming in Mallorca probably on third of September, and then seeing this boat on fire, assisted in turning the blaze off by lifting the outboards up and showering the boat.  Thanks to this the boat was saved from getting totalled and engulfed by the blaze and becoming a wreck.
The boat in this fire is a Sunseeker 38 Martinique as produced from 1991 to 1993, to a design of Don Shead and John Braithwaite.  The 38 Martinique came out as a replacement of the 36 Martinique and was replaced by the 39 Martinique.
The boat which extinguished the fire is the Wajer 38 S, the new outboard version option which debuted this 2024 at the Cannes boat show.  Designed by Vripack the 38 S debuted in 2015 as the walkaround version of the Wajer 38 which launched in 2013 as a replacement to the 37 model.

Princess Yacht Collides Into Fishing Boat Near Sant Lluis Menorca

A twenty meter Princess sport yacht titled m/y Laya with eight persons onboard collided with a small six meter fishing boat named Galup and sank it off the coast of Sant Lluis, to the South East of Menorca on 12:48 of third September.  Galup had one person onboard at the time of the collision, who seeing the boat navigating into him, jumped off board in order to save himself.  Noticing about the collision Laya, stopped and recovered the man from the sea, who was then retrieved by another boat and taken to land unharmed.  CCS Palma mobilized Salvamar Antares, who then towed Laya to a Mahón dry dock, probably for sustaining damage to its running gear from the collision. The Maritime Authority and Guardia Civil have been informed, with Laya running a charter of six guests and two crew at the time of the collision.
The Princess Yacht in this collision is a first generation V65 as produced from 2000 to 2004 to a design of Bernard Olesinski.  When released the Princess V65 was the V-series flagship extending its size from the previous larger V55 by ten feet.  The V65 was replaced by the V65 Mk.II in 2006 which used the same hull, but offered a total different layout and an enclosed main deck.

Project: Scanner Envy 1500

Scanner Marine announce the project for an Envy 1500, a new flagship of its Envy line and second in size only to its Super Ocean 58.  Designed by Montemitro, the Scanner Envy 1500 is a walk around rib dedicated mostly to exterior spaces with fore to aft usable deck space; central aft sun-pad, dinette with opposite settees, galley, triple settee central console, and a fore deck sun-pad.  Walking around in the Envy 1500 will be easy as for over half of its length she is walk around with undisturbed port and starboard corridors, with two steps leading to the fore deck.  Over one meter longer to the smaller 1400, this length is said to be mostly used to increase interior cabin space, with the Envy 1500 set to offer more room in a two cabins for four berths layout; forward master stateroom, midships guest cabin, and a shower head and lounge in between the two cabins.  The first Scanner Envy 1500 is to be displayed in some days at the Cannes boat, powered by twin Mercury 600hp outboard, with estimated top speed up to 45 knots max.  An inboard version which starts from twin 400hp sterndrives is to come later, and for the speed lovers Scanner will offer a quadruple Mercury 600hp set up.

New Model: Evo Yachts R4+

Evo R4+ is the new R line model born from the desire to enhance the Evo R+’s closed deck, which attracted considerable interest after the World premiere of the seventeen meter model at the 2023 Cannes boat show. The new R4+ oject is another step forward in Evo Yachts journey of experimentation with new materials such as aluminium, with a view to introducing more environmentally sustainable processes. Evo Yachts and Valerio Rivellini, the designer of both exteriors and interiors, but also the designer to date of all Evo Yachts models worked to launch a model on the market that combines extremely liveable exteriors with the comfort of a cabin cruiser. The result is a thirteen-metre sport cruiser with striking styling that also offers exceptional comfort and lets owners enjoy cruises in all weather conditions, using the various areas in different ways, according to their needs, thanks to innovative, modular solutions for the hard top and stern area. The aluminium hard top is produced in the shipyard and features several removable Plexiglas parts that allow this area to be partially opened, offering different living conditions according to requirements and the weather. As can be seen, this innovative solution offers the benefits of two different types of boat: with the hard top removed, the sensation is of an open yacht connected seamlessly to the surrounding environment, but always with the option of a quick and easy change of scene. But that’s not the only innovation offered by this hard top, which has a spoiler in the forward section for natural ventilation, while the ceiling is clad in Alcantara panels that give this setting a hybrid outdoor/indoor look. Evo Yachts has also developed a special LED lighting system that makes this space particularly enjoyable and atmospheric when it’s dark. The hard top also features carefully designed supports for radar and other systems, which are increasingly in demand even on yachts this size. In the beach area, the totally custom multifunctional stern platform adds an extra metre in length to the boat when open, as well as offering a range of different ways to take full advantage of the yacht. This tender lift transformer is the result of collaboration between the Blu Emme shipyard, designer Valerio Rivellini and Besenzoni. The system’s excellent mechanical characteristics and movement mechanisms allow the swim platform to be lowered to about 80 centimetres below the sea’s surface, making it easier to enter or leave the water at any point of the stern, or to be extended completely for safe, convenient access even from high piers. The platform is wide enough to be used as a boarding ladder even with a tender or jet ski moored to it, without having to remove them. The sun sofa island featured in the centre of the beach area is accompanied by a multifunctional sliding dining table. The beach area and cockpit are designed for easy transformation according to guests’ different needs at different times of day: from a generous sun lounge to a dining area. The Mercuri brothers’ Shipyard has once again successfully combined the benefits of two types of boat; walkaround and cabin cruiser in a highly innovative product that’s ideal for owner families who want to enjoy their boat year-round and are looking for a compromise between comfort and sportiness. Like the other models in the R line, the R4+ is a fast day cruiser features the innovation that has made Evo Yachts models famous around the world: the beach area can be completely transformed by activating the brand’s hallmark “XTension” bulwarks, which open out hydraulically in under thirty seconds to increase usable deck space by 40% and turn the cockpit into a 25-square-metre ‘pieds dans l’eau’ terrace that can be fitted out as desired. The premium interiors below deck are functional and can be personalised, offering comfortable settings where the focus is once again on transformability. A door opens onto the finely designed Plexiglas staircase, with a lighting system and large non-slip steps, and leads to a double cabin. Forward of the bathroom is a generous dinette with a kitchen unit large enough to accommodate various appliances, a foldaway table that can be converted into another double bed, and a mirror with a built-in TV. The generous spaces are in part thanks to the compact Volvo IPS engines and a layout designed with a special focus on ergonomics. Evo Yachts R4+ is fitted with twin Volvo 480hp engines with IPS pod drives for a top speed of 34 knots and a range of about 300 nautical miles.
Technical Data:
LOA - 13.12m (43.1ft)

Bayesian

I wanted to remember August 2024 for breaking new visitors record on PowerYachtBlog, which reached over 860,000 views in a month, nearly double to the previous 473,000 from July. But alas August 2024 will be remembered for sailing yacht Bayesian, a 2008 build 56 meter Perini navi super sloop which sank off Porticello to the East of Palermo on Monday nineteen at 04:06 early morning time taking down the life of seven people; the owner Mike Lync, five guests and the chef.  Super yachting never got so much news as the week following seventeen August!
Bayesian is reported to might have sunk from a down burst, a sort of Tornado but with winds that descend and diverge beneath the storm and result in outward burst patterns of damage or wide areas mostly from the same direction.  Captain and crew mistakes are yet to be proved in a court room, but the yacht visible structure seems to be intact as is its much maligned record sized mast, which received the first guilt for the sinking from mainstream and social media alike. Bayesian sinking took a total of sixteen minutes, an increase from the first reported two minutes. Still not a lot, but sixteen minutes should give time to a professional crew to make the yacht from beach mode into a safer modus operandi.
The publicity from the sinking of Bayesian is huge, its not positive, but some would say as long as they talk about it, it is good.  I am sure that since the story broke Perini Navi has become the most recognizable super sailing yacht to the common folk.  Not that a Perini was not recognizable, they were for the yacht man, and now everyone knows them.
What I see interesting following the investigation is what the classification societies will make of this.  Will we see more strict rules being enforced on super yachts from Classification Societies, or will all this be filed as crew mistakes.  If Class Societies will open a can of worms for yachts, which are probably the safer think you can have ten, twenty people on, imagine the resolve of this on the commercial sector, or even worse of the even expanding cruise industry.  I guess time will tell.
Bayesian was the fifth hull of ten build Perini's 56 meter semi custom series line which debuted in 2003 with the last one delivered in 2011, featuring an important difference that she is the only one sloop rigged, versus the other nine hulls who are all double mast ketch.  I still think the mast blaming is a bit over the top, also because the yacht is seventeen years old, and has done a lot of running around.  This size yachts are mostly all build to class; Bayesian is American Bureau of Shipping classed to A1 standards and is reported to have had its class survey in 2022, so nearly nothing is given to chance especially stability from a mast for a yacht which is made to circum-navigate the globe.
The sinking and the deaths involved also give the story fire for conspiracy theories, although some of it does look odd, like Lync partner Stephen Chamberlain who died in Hospital on Tuesday twentieth August after being hit by a car in Cambridgeshire, England on Saturday seventeenth.  It is difficult to stop conspirers on this one, and as they say, where there is smoke it is usually a fire, and one plus one also make two. The maths are in the favour of the conspirators.
