Two Abandoned Yachts Catch Fire in Miami

Two abandoned yachts, a sportfish yacht of about fifty feet and a seventy foot sport yacht went ablaze at a marina located in Little Havana between Northwest 22nd Avenue and 14th Street, Miami river at 02:30 hours of the morning of Thursday 27 May.  City of Miami Fire Rescue responded to the fire with seventeen units, fighting the blaze from both the bridge and on the water with a fire-boat, what took about an hour to extinguish.  Both yachts where reported as being unattended. At some point the fire was reported as rising to about a height of over twenty meters.  The two abandoned yachts are reported to be of the same ownership, and had been devoid of fuel and most mechanical items as were scheduled to be scrapped.  The marina where the yachts are located is also reported to close down in about a months time, with an investigation for the cause of the fire being made.
The yachts in this fire are both timeless classics.  The seventy foot sport yacht is the Paolo Caliari designed Arno Leopard Sport 21.50 produced from 1989 to 96 in about forty units.  The sportfish yacht looks to be the Napier designed never getting old Bertram 54, as produced from 1981 to 2002 selling 177 units in two versions updated in 1996.
