Van Dutch Sport Yacht Beached in Melito Porto Salvo

A sixteen meter VanDutch sport yacht ended beached in Melito, Porto Salvo on the South of the Calabria region in Italy, on the early afternoon of 26th May. In the accident the two British nationals onboard, a captain and a crew member ended in hospital with the captain having mild injuries to his back.  The VanDutch was being delivered to Greece, when the boat had some faults in its control systems.  Thankfully this accident happened in what is still off season as the consequences to a crowded beach could have been much worse.
The boat in the accident is a VanDutch 55, the current flagship of the Dutch company. Designed as all VanDutch by Frank Mulder, the 55 is a modern open sport yacht with hints to traditionalism, see flush deck and straight as the horizon shear line.  The Van Dutch offers standard accommodation plan for a two cabins lower deck layout, with a saloon and galley in between, and is powered by twin Volvo 900hp with line shaft propulsion, which make her reach speeds up to 37 knots.
