Boats and Yachts Wrecked by Fire at Bay Marine Boat Yard in Chicago

Tens of boats and yachts were wrecked in a fire at Bay Marine Chicago Yachting Service warehouse in Waukegan, Chicago with the blaze starting about 19:00 of Wednesday second February 2022.  Waukegan Fire Service responded to the blaze, and were eventually helped by fire crews from Lake, McHenry, and Kenosha which totalled one hundred fire fighters.  The blaze was controlled in just over six hours of fire fighting.  No injuries are reported with the cause of the blaze being under investigation, but an arson seems to be the suspected cause.  The damage from the fire is reported to be about thirty million US dollars.

A family owned and operation marina Bay Marine was founded in 1965 by Francis “Fran” Felhofer in Sturgean Bay, with the Chicago, Waukegan yard in Illinois opening in 2016.
