The advantages of azipod drives have been discussed in many news articles and on the boat show docks as well. Sabre Yachts presents an optional pod propulsion on the Sabre 42 Express and the results as the shipyard says were truly impressive. This shows a superior performance and handling with less horse power thanks to the ZF Zeus 3500 Pods coupled with twin Cummins QSB5.9M 425hp engines. The data by Sabre showed a wide open throttle top speed of 34.2 knots at 3040 rpm, and a very economic cruising speed of 28 knots at 2800 rpm, which gives an amazing 325 nautical mile range. To better this one only a slow 9.9 knots speed at 1400 rpm would make it possible. July 8, 2009
