New Model: Aquila 50 Yacht

Aquila Power Catamarans has during the 2024 Fort Lauderdale boat show debuted its new 50 Yacht. A fifteen meter power catamaran the Aquila 50 Yacht comes as a replacement to the 48 and sits in between the 44 and 54 models.  The 50 Yacht also introduces an explorer yacht aesthetic, featuring a commanding high freeboard and an S-shear line that goes up and sets it apart from the other Aquila models. The Aquila 50 Yacht features a three cabins three head standard layout, with a luxurious single-level seven meter full-beam master stateroom located forward. The Aquila 50 Yacht is also offered in a more charter friendly four cabins version this located forward of the starboard hull, and takes away space from the master stateroom. A single berth crew cabin is also offered as an option, this located on the port hull at midships. All the living saloon area on the Aquila 50 Yacht is located on the main deck and is of with an astern galley layout. The Aquila 50 Yacht is standard powered by twin Volvo 380hp, with optional 480hp and or Yanmar 550hp being available. Performance is 22 knots max eighteen cruise with Volvo 380hp.

Dusseldorf 2025 Boat Show Preview

Its that important time of January when the Dusseldorf's boat show, what is the largest fully enclosed and internal featured exhibition sets the stage.  The 2025 edition of Dusseldorf starts on Saturday eighteen and will end on Sunday 26 January what is nine days of boating paradise for an international community.  Debuting new models to be presented in Dusseldorf 2025 for the first time are the following; Aquador 400 Hard Top, Galeon 435 GTi, Fjord F490 Open, Marex 440 Scandinavia, Prestige F4.3, Princess F58, Riva Iseo Super, Santa Severa 52, and a second generation Sunseeker 68 Manhattan. 
The Boot which is the short name the Dusseldorf boat show made it's signature over the years debuted in November 1969 in Fisherstrabe, Dusseldorf.  An idea of Kurt Schoop the first Boot edition was called NOWEA acronym for Nordwestdeutsche Ausstellungsgesellschaft which translates to North-West-German Exhibiting Company had 34,000 visitors, with 116 exhibitors from seven nations showing boats and yachts and related products.  For it's second edition the following year, the Boot name starts to be used with exhibitors expanding to 183 from 25 nations.  In 1972 the Boot moved to its current location to the North of Dusseldorf and in close proximity to the airport, in an area with 50,000 square metres of space and also changed to its current January dates. This move will put the Boot in the World Boat show map and in the following year sets a new record of 307 exhibitors from 41 countries which will welcome a total of 85,751 visitors.  The visitors record will keep going up with 207,000 in 1977, and then 247,000 in 2016 its current record.  Another area of expansion has been that of the always expanding size of the Boot with the largest ever featured yacht coming in 2006 from the German build Kaiserwerft 40.5 Baron forty meter of length super yacht.  Dusseldorf only cancellation came in the 2021 and 22 Covid pandemic years, with a risk cancellation coming in 2003 and the Rhine floods of that Winter.

Project: Fleming 60

Fleming present the project for a new 60 model.  The 60 is based on the 58 which debuting in 2013 has so far sold in 45 units.  The Fleming 60 extends the 58 length by fifty centimetres aft.  This gives the Fleming 60 a more spacious California seating with a walkaround deck behind the cockpit settee and also extra space for a larger crew cabin or storage utility room.  Inside and in the rest of the yacht the Fleming 60 should not be much different to the 58 with a choice for three lower deck choices, two of which with full beam master stateroom, and a bunk third cabin.  You also have a choice what Fleming calls the Accommodation Option A for a forward master stateroom, and an L-shaped bunk third cabin to midships, which is bigger to the offer of options B and C with third cabin located to port side.  The Fleming 60 like the 58 is to be powered by twin Man 800hp which are good for 21 knots top speeds, and a range at best cruise of six knots just a little bit over 2,500 nautical miles.

Flybridge Boat Partly Sinks in Chesapeake Fishing Creek

A flybridge cruiser of ten meters in length party sank in Fishing Creek marina, by the Chesapeake Beach, in the Chesapeake Bay on the afternoon of Saturday eleven January.  The cause of the part-sinking are not reported, though it looks to be a failed through hull.  These through hulls in this instance usually fail because the boat has not been correctly Winterized for the cold weather and water Winter temperatures.  This Winter is particularly cold in the Chesapeake Bay with current water temperatures down to four degrees celsius, what is less then five degrees to the usual nine degrees average.
The boat in this part sinking is a second generation Silverton 37 Convertible as produced from 1990 to 2000.  The second generation 37 Convertible was a replacement to the first generation 37C with the model replaced by the more sportfish looking 38 Convertible.

Mangusta Super Yacht Fire Scare in Fort Lauderdale

The Mangusta 54 meter m/y She's a 10 Too had a fire scare when she was berthed at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale on the afternoon of Saturday eleven January.  Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue attended the blaze, with conflicting reports saying the fire was in the engine room and or the garage.  The fire was extinguished in just twenty minutes and contained in the area.  Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the fire scare with its two fire boats, and was also assisted by the county’s fire boat.  The cause of the fire is not reported and under investigation, with the yacht just returning from St. Martin in the Caribbean some hours before the accident.  
M/y She is a 10 Too is a 2024 Overmarine Mangusta GranSport 54 as designed by Alberto Mancini and produced from 2018 so far in three units.  The GranSport 54 is Mangusta's current flagship, which also debuted the GranSport line in 2018, which was followed by smaller 45 and 33 models in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Yachting Developments from New Zealand presents its new World wide web showroom.  Yachting Developments has a story that goes beyond and previous to building yachts which started when founder and managing director Ian Cook founds the company in 1990 to help Spain enter into the Americas cup.  In 2002 Yachting Developments launches its first yacht a 22.6m cruiser racer sailing machine.  Move the clock fifteen years later and Yachting Developments has launched 21 custom yachts from eleven to 39 meters, most of which sailing yachts, excluding the four sportfish yachts delivered from 2012 which started with the 27.4m YD65, to the largest build in 2017 the 39.5m hull number 1015, and two other 33 and 34.9M builds, all of which made with high tech composite. Project: Riva 112 Dolcevita Super

Riva present the project for the 112 Dolcevita Super.  Designed by since the nineties Riva designer Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta of Officina Italiana Design the 112 Dolcevita Super is an evolution of the 110 Dolcevita which debuted in 2018 and has sold 32 units.  The main difference from the upcoming 112 to the 110 is the aft extension which now also comes with opening side bulkheads which extends and nearly double the size of the bathing beach platform.  With this extension the aft deck layout has also been changed with the 112 Dolcevita Super now having an aft sun-pad similar to what Riva presented with the 82 Diva a year ago.  The 112 Dolcevita Super also features more subtle changes like the extended glazing which serves the fore main deck master cabin and also the lower deck, with the hard-top also extended in length forward.  For the interior there should be other subtle changes but the 112 Dolcevita Super will offer a near identical layout with a master stateroom forward of the main deck, and four guest suites on the lower deck.  Crew accommodation if for five in three cabins, for an area which also includes a galley and an L-shaped dinette.  The Riva 112 Dolcevita Super is powered by twin MTU 2683hp for top speeds up to 25 knots and a cruise of 23.

Viking Sportfish Ends Beached in Cancun Mexico

A 21 meter Viking sportfish yacht titled m/y Blue Rush ended beached and aground in Punta Sam, to the North of Cancun, Mexico on a story which was shared on TheQualifiedCaptain Instagram page on nine January.  The sportfish is filmed beached, and what looks a surveyor is taking photos of the hull.  The causes of the grounding are not reported, with the usual Instagram speculation comments following the story, from those of a sleeping captain to the voluntary dry dock and free bottom job for the cheap.  It will be interesting to know more at this stage, although because of insurance claims doubt we will ever hear about it.  The damage to the Viking sportfish is social media reported the be only to its propellers, with the yacht dry docked a couple of days later to the grounding.
Motor yacht Blue Rush is a 2023 Viking 72 Convertible as produced from 2016 to 2024 in 75 units, these numbers including the Enclosed Bridge version.  The Viking 72 Convertible came out as a replacement to the 70 Convertible and was replaced by the 74 Convertible.

Two Yachts Wrecked One Damaged in Fire at Port Lave Marseilles

Two yachts were destroyed and one was damaged in a fire which started on 17:29 of Thursday ninth January at Port de la Lave, near Corbieres Beach to the West of Marseilles.  The fire is reported to have started on the 27 meter m/y Naisca IV which also jumped to a seventeen meter flybridge yacht to its port side and then also to the 23 meter explorer m/y Aldabra to its starboard.  Marseilles Fire Fighters intervened to the blaze with 63 firefighters, nineteen vehicles, aerial reconnaissance drones, and the Caesar robot for an operation which became difficult to control as the yachts broke there mooring lines.  Ultimately Naisca IV and the seventeen meter flybridge yacht where badly damaged, wrecked and partly sunk from the blaze, while Aldabra is reported to receiving bad fire damage to its port side, for a fire which took just short of six hours to extinguish as it was turned off at 23:23 hours.  Following the fire the yachts where surrounded by an oil protection boon for an area which covered one hundred meters.  No causalities are reported with the cause of the fire being under investigation.
M/y Naisca IV which is the yacht reported to have started the fire is a 2006 Arno Leopard 27 Open as designed by Paolo Caliari and produced from 1994 to 2011 in 48 units.  The flybridge yacht is a Mochi Craft 56 as designed by Paolo Caliari and produced from 1989 to 93.  M/y Aldabra which was located to starboard and sustained fire damage is a custom Ocea 23m designed by Joubert and Nivelt and delivered in 2011.
