One boater was saved as an eleven meter Bayliner flybridge cruiser went ablaze at Meigs Street Pier, in Sandusky Bay, Ohio just before 08:00 morning time of Tuesday fourteen October. Sandusky Fire Fighters tended to the fire, and also intervened from the water with the Sandusky Fire Rescue boat. Eventually the boat was wrecked, but no pollution was reported although both the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Erie County's Emergency Management Agency were called to inspect the area. The boat's operator later told officials that he was docked at First Street marina and was underway to take it to Broadway Street marina and out of the water for the season, while underway he noticed smoke emanating from the engine compartment, and when he opened the hatch and saw the flames ran the boat onto the rocks at the Meigs Street pier and jumped off. No one was injured in the fire.
The flybridge cruiser in this fire is a Bayliner 3888 Motor Yacht as produced from 1990 to 1994. The 3888 Motor Yacht was a soft evolution to the 3870 Motor Yacht, with the model replaced by the Bayliner 3988 Motor Yacht.
