Two men were saved as a twenty meter Princess flybridge yacht went ablaze off Cottesloe Beach, Perth in West Australia just before 08:30 local morning time of Monday second December. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Marine Rescue and Water Police were alerted with the yacht reported to be about one nautical miles of the coast. The two men of sixty and thirty years old evacuated the yacht on it's tender, and were later escorted to Fremantle by Water Police. St John Ambulance paramedics were called but were not required in the end as the two men had no injuries. The yacht fire was reported starting from the engine room, with this totally engulfing and then sinking it in about an hour.
The Princess yacht in this fire is a second generation 65 model designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 1998 to 2004. The Princess 65 came out as a replacement to the 20M and was replaced by the 67.
I have had a smoke alarm in my engine room for over 25 years...
