Project: Wim Van Der Valk 26M Pilot

Wim Van der Valk shipyard announces the addition of a new concept to its existing line of premium Dutch motoryachts. The Pilot range combines the rugged exterior evocative of an explorer vessel with the superlative comfort, quality and equipment of the very latest contemporary yachts. Designed by Cor D Rover this 26-metre crossover yacht combines a rugged explorer-like exterior with the comfort, quality and equipment of a premium contemporary super yacht, with lots of outdoor space as well as plenty of interior volume.  Interior design has been awarded to Italian firm Hot Lab which created two style revolving around turquoise and yellow colours.  The 26M Pilot blends a modern overall appearance with subtle classic touches. The raised pilothouse layout means the wheelhouse is elevated and the forward main deck area set free for other purposes. There’s lots of space particularly on the aft deck for sunbathing as well as the storage of tenders, Jet Skis and other toys.  A wide range of adaptations are possible to the highly versatile design. The 26M Pilot feature two accommodation plan choices of four or five guest cabins, both with owners suite forward on the main deck, and this depending on whether you want a crew lobby or just cabins.  On the main deck is also two options which revolves a more traditional layout with central dinning table for eight, and a more social version with bar style galley.   The Wim Van Der Valk will be powered by triple Volvo 800hp engines with IPS pod drives which will give her top speeds up to 21 knots and a cruise of 17 knots.  A smaller 23 meter unit is also on plan, and this might be another range for the ever expanding custom Van Der Valk.

Out-News = Super Yacht Runs Into Breakwater in Portisco Sardinia

A Cantieri di Pisa 43 meter super yacht ended on the break water of the entrance of Portisco marina in Sardinia, on the night of fourteenth September.  The super yacht damaged the hull port side bow area in the accident.  The cause of the accident are unknown, though a technical mishap for a professional managed yacht would be a first thought.  Portisco Marina is located on the popular World famous North East Costa Esmerlda cruising ground, to the North of Olbia. 
The Cantieri di Pisa in the accident is the Akhir 145 model build 2006 and titled M/Y Cap de Quers.  The Akhir 145 was engineered and designed in house and is fully fiberglass build, offering an accommodation for sixteen guests in eight cabins and nine crew in five cabins.  Cantieri di Pisa Akhir 145 is powered by twin MTU 3700hp which give her top speeds up to 28 knots and a cruise of 23 knots. 

New Model: Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht

On the Friday evening of September 4 Australia’s Riviera hosted a spectacular online launch for the world premiere of its new 50 Sports Motor Yacht.  The Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht is the latest addition to Riviera’s growing Sports Motor Yacht collection following the popular 64 Sports Motor Yacht which premiered in June this year.  For the well being of guests, dealer representatives and staff, Riviera unveiled online on all its platforms the new 50 SMY to a worldwide audience, live from its Gold Coast production facility.  Hosted by Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst, the live launch will be among the many highlights of the company’s forty years of evolution in 2020 that have driven the superior design and engineering refinements of today’s Riviera’s motor yachts.  The 50 SMY takes her cues from her highly acclaimed and popular sister ships the 72, 68 and 64 Sports Motor Yachts which are now cruising the waters of the world. The 50 is a spacious motor yacht with extensive water sports capabilities and designed for extended coastal passages or weekend escapes that can easily serve as a luxurious family, entertainer or adventure yacht.  The launch featured the very first reveal of the motor yacht followed by a tour of the 50 SMY. Part two of the premiere was streamed on Saturday, September 5, demonstrating the performance and sporting pedigree of this outstanding new model.  Accessed from a generous, optional hydraulic swim platform via dual transom doors, the rear cockpit boasts 6.5 square metres of outdoor living space and accommodates a barbecue/wet bar and fridge/freezer compartment, along with ample storage.  Wide and deep walk-around side-decks safely connect the fore-deck, which in turn offers both an entertainment and lounging zone and can transform to carry a tender. A walkway beneath the windscreen allows easy washing or attaching covers.  The bowsprit integrated into the flared hull enhances functionality and reflects a contemporary design.  In the fully covered alfresco deck are two comfortable day lounges either side – the starboard lounge can also convert to a sunbed. There is simply no better place to relax, enjoy a meal, take in the view or all the cockpit action.  Convenient access to the engine room is via a large hatch in the alfresco floor with a stainless-steel ladder beneath.  Joining the alfresco deck with the galley and saloon are a tinted glass sliding door and servery window set in a superior stainless-steel frame. A gourmet galley resides immediately to port, while the internal staircase to starboard, incorporating beneath a large freezer, liquor cabinet and glass storage.  As one of five luxury living zones, the saloon also offers two opposing lounge areas that can seat six to eight guests in total comfort.  4D Designs, in collaboration with the Riviera design team, has also excelled with the accommodation plan with a full-beam master suite bathed in natural light from large hull windows, a queen-sized island berth, chaise lounge, walk-in robe and ensuite. Guests are afforded a VIP stateroom with ensuite/day head forward and twin bunk cabin, all in exceptional luxury.  The three-sided enclosed flybridge offers superb all-round visibility and indulges its occupants in complete comfort. There is a supremely comfortable lounge opposite the main helm to starboard, perfect to stretch out, relax and chat to the skipper whilst underway. With an extended awning, the Flybridge is open at the rear and strata glass clears can then fully seal this area. An optional aft helm is available for convenience when fishing or docking.  The main helm station offers twin pedestal-mounted leather seats and places controls, screens and switches close to hand and in clear view.  From here, the captain can command the choice of two highly efficient power and drive options, being twin diesel Volvo 725hp, or Man 800hp.   With Man 800hp the Riviera 50 Sports Motor Yacht delivers over 30 knots at wide open throttle, and  has a range of 336nm at 22 knots with 10 per cent reserve fuel.  The official launch of the 50 Sports Motor Yacht will be followed by her world premiere tour which will include Australia and the United States. The first 50 SMY is now being shipped to the US.

Out-News = Classic Benetti on Fire in La Spezia Boat Yard

A classic Benetti super yacht went on fire on the morning of September 15, in La Spezia. the Benetti super yacht was dry docked at the Muggiano shipyard. The cause of the blaze is unknown, and the fire fighting squad was quick to intervene to control and turn off the fire. No spread to nearby yachts was reported.  Muggiano Shipyard is located at the East part of the large La Spezia basin bordering with Lerici, founded in 1883, and since 2004 owned by Fincantieri shipyard.
The Benetti in the fire is the 34 meter super yacht Hidalgo, which was custom built in Viareggio in 1968 to an in house design and naval architecture.  This Benetti 34 meter offers accommodation for eleven guests in five cabins, with five crew berths.  Power comes from twin GM 590hp which give top speeds up to 14 knots and a cruise of eleven knots for a range of four thousand nautical miles.  Hidalgo was last refitted in 2008.

Project: Garlington 71 Flybridge

Garlington present the project for a 71 Flybridge, its largest model in the current line up which features five models from 44 upwards.  Hull one of the Garlington 71 which is sold and has an owner waiting is nearing completion.  The Garlington 71 is designed by Applied Concepts Unleashed, a popular name among the custom sportfish aficionados.  The 71 Flybridge features a traditional sportfish layout of a living main deck with galley, saloon and dinette, with a lower deck offering four double cabins three heads layout; master cabin to port side at midships, a forward berth with three berths, and two double bunks berths to starboard for the fishing buddies.

New Model: Pearl 62

British Pearl Yachts has really evolved in recent years, from a cultist of the Britsh aft cabin cruiser in the late nineties early second millennium, the company has since entered into larger sizes with the 75 model in 2010 and proving a hit, set sights into the standard motor yacht design.  Designed by Bill Dixon the Pearl 62 is a really sweet modern looking motor yacht and packs a lot of accommodation in just eighteen meters, offering a four double cabins layout, with a separate entrance master cabin at midships.  A plus point in the Pearl 62 is that it has no bunk berths which is what most four cabins eighteen meters motor yacht offer.  The Pearl 62 also comes with the option for the main deck with a choice coming to starboard which replaces the four person dinette to a larger one further forward.  The Pearl 62 is standard powered by Volvo 725hp or optional 800hp and 900hp engines with Volvo IPS pod drives.  Standard engines allow max speeds up to 27 knots while the optional largest option give 33 knots top end.

Project: Cranchi A42

Since launching the Sessantotto 24 meter flagship earlier this year, Cranchi has found new fresh energy for innovative design which go out of the spectrum it got us used in the last forty years.  That is not to say this is something new for Cranchi, as for example the company was faster then most to enter the explorer segment with the Trawler line in 2013, and the T36 Crossover is another unique product in the boating World.  Designed as all latest models by Christian Grande with the A42 Luxury Tender, Cranchi is following the pack in the rise of the walk around day cruiser.  The A42 offers full exterior deck use from bow to stern, while below it offers a four berth accommodation; convertible dinette and large cabin, with a spacious head featuring a shower stall.  The Cranchi A42 shall be powered by twin Volvo with pod drives, no engine data is given but I imagine it will be the new pumped up Volvo 480hp.  Due to the success of this kind of boat in the North American market Cranchi has declared that they are working on an outboard version, surely with three possibly optional four engines.  World launch is set for early 2021 in Dusseldorf.

Web: Maxi Dolphin New Web Site

Maxi Dolphin is an Italian custom yacht builder which presents its new updated Internet web showroom. Founded in 1987 in Brescia Italy, it started by building one off racing sailing yachts for high demanding clients. Its first launch was Carmen Di Bellavista, a 73 feet maxi sailing yacht designed by Bruce Farr to race in the ICAYA circuit. In 2007 came the presentation of its power sport yacht range with the introduction of the beautiful Studio Starkel designed MD51 Power.  The MD51 is followed by the MD53 Power, what is a sloop stern version of the 51.  Projects of the MD65 have followed, but an MD70 Power is reported under construction with a delivery for Summer 2021. Out-News = Bertram Moppie Lost to Fire Outside Porto Rotondo

A Bertram 28 Moppie was lost to fire outside of Porto Rotondo, in the North East of Sardinia in the morning of sixth August 2020. The boat was reported going out of the famous Sardinia Esmeralda coast marina when the Bertram day cruiser started fuming white smoke, which in about two minutes turned into black and engulfed the whole boat.  No injuries where reported in the fire, but the boat as the picture above is totalled.
The 28 became Bertram's best seller over the years selling over 2200 boats, for a production which started in 1971.  The 28 was the Bertram's which changed designer duties, with David Napier taking over from Ray Hunt and designing all the range from there onward.  The Moppie was the day sport cruiser version and featured a large cockpit and a small cuddy cabin interior.  This particular 28 Moppie which was lost to fire was powered by twin Mercruiser V8 5.7 litre carburettor petrol gas engines.

Project: Columbus Classic 50

The Columbus Classic 50 is a brand-new displacement motor yacht of fifty meters with steel hull and aluminium superstructure that fall into the less than 500 Gross Tons category.  Designed by Sergio Cutolo of Hydrotec this fifty super yachts features a classic modern feel, with the superstructures  designed to allow large windows to always maintain contact with the sea and the external environment.  The hull, characterised by flared and slender bow shapes, is designed to obtain very low levels of drag together with excellent qualities of manoeuvrability and seaworthiness.  The large outdoor spaces are spread over three levels and allow different configurations that include lounge, bar with dining area, swimming pool and large sunbathing areas.  The interiors are characterised by the arrangement that allows to have four guest cabins, a VIP cabin and an owner’s cabin, the latter arranged on the deck.  The two lounges, one on the main deck and the other on the upper deck, offer multiple combinations for the arrangement of guests’ common living areas.  The main tender is housed in a garage below deck while, at the far stern, a large beach club has been created with a cantilevered hydraulic platform.  The Columbus 50 Classic cruising speed will be around 14 knots with a range exceeding 4,000 nautical miles. The Columbus Classic Line comprises also the 80M, 100M and a 120M megayachts.

Improve-It = Otam 65 HT

The second of three new Otam's for 2020, this unique 65 HT has been delivered. The iconic exterior has been adapted to meet the specific demands of a deeply passionate and brave owner, driven by the desire to create a brand new design, a true one-off in Otam style. At the customer’s request, the Francesco Guida Design firm designed the styling and details of the internal layout and of the external cockpit, giving the yacht even more personality and translating the specific requests of the customer with a high attention to detail.  The interiors have been inspired to that of a private with raw carbon being visible in some areas to underline the performance aspect of the sport yacht.  This Otam 65 HT also sets itself apart from previous 65 units for having extensive use of carbon fibre in the build process, and also for being equipped with twin 2000hp MTU engines.  These engines set a new record for Otam's 65th anniversary, making it the fastest build ever by reaching top speeds up to sixty knots and a cruise of fifty knots.  Considering that most Otams reach fifty knots max this is a huge achievement and may 65 feet plus 65 years does indeed equal sixty knots.

Project: Dale Classic 36

Out of the new platform of the Dale 35, the British boat builder is presenting three platforms all inspired to traditional British pilot boat design.  The Dale Classic 36 is the third and largest of these three models, and the most inspired and similar to the Classic 45 model.  The Dale Classic 36 will feature as the two other models three lower deck arrangements, standard is for a single forward and galley down arrangement.  The optional versions moves the galley to the wheelhouse and use the space to starboard for another second cabin, or a larger queen island berth cabin below.  The new Dale 35/36 series can be powered by single Volvo 270hp or optional 400hp engine, and or twin 170hp or 270hp choices.  All powers are stern drive propulsion.

New Model: Uniesse Exuma HTC5

When speaking of the just launched Uniesse Exuma HTC5 we have to look back at the past.  Uniesse always got me excited, for two reasons, because it managed to marry a sportfishing design with that of the Mediterranean cruiser in looks and purpose.  The Uniesse 48 and 57 Opens, launched in 96 and 97 respectively married this concept to perfection, and where a huge success from the end nineties till the first decade of the first millennium for the North Italian boat builder.  The Uniesse Exuma Hard-Top Coupe HTC5 is the evolution of the 48, re-imagined for the future.  We have two important changes in  the first HTC5 which launched this Summer, and that is a fully enclosed hard-top with patio door, and the profile window on the hull, stretching the whole cabin area, with added port holes on the fore deck.  The interior of the Exuma HTC5 is a two cabin two heads layout with forward owners stateroom, and a guest cabin with two in line berths to port side.  To starboard is a galley and an L-shaped dinette in standard version, with an option existing to have a large gourmet size kitchen.  The Uniesse Exuma HTC5 is available in five engine choices from Cummins 600hp up to Man 800hp, with standard propulsion being line shaft and IPS pod drives coming with the Volvo engines.  Hull one of the Exuma HTC5 is currently on its way to the USA and should be presented Covid-19 permitting at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale boat show at the end of October.  The Exuma HTC5 is Uniesse second new model after the company launched the SS 6, presented as 56 SS two years ago in the Summer of 2018.

Out-News = Fairline On the Rocks in Black Sea

A Fairline Squadron 58 ended on the rocks in Cape Takil, on the Northern part of the Black Sea in Ukraine Crimea area on the 7th September.  The boat is reported to have hull damage and was taking on water aft.  Cape Takil is located on the Northern part of the black sea just before the entrance to the Sea of Azov.  No information on how the accident happened.
The Squadron 58 was a huge hit for well known British boat builder Fairline selling in just over two hundred units for a production which lasted six years from 2003 up to 2009. Little modifications have been made to the Squadron 58 with the most noticeable being the hull windows shape change in late 2006 from eye to square, and wood finish options inside beyond cherry wood in the last two years.  The Squadron 58 featured a three double cabins interior with a crew cabin, and was standard powered by twin Volvo 715hp, and or optional 775hp or Cat 800hp engines.  Top speed was up to 32 knots.

Project: X-Power 33C

Some things you think of never seeing in a life time, and this is one of them, X-Yachts making a motor boat.  The tell signals showed when the Danish yacht builder acquired HOC Yachts in 2019, and indeed the X-Yachts 33C is moulded from the HOC Cruiser 33.  Onward with some bits from the official press release. With more than forty years of experience in high performance sailing boats, X-Yachts is now introducing a new initiative, based on some of the experience they have, a ten meter open powerboat sport cruiser for quality-conscious boaters, with exactly the same overall strategy. Fast and safe on the water, superior pleasure with ownership, innovative development and design. The powerboat is planned for launch in January 2021, and the important milestones are reached by close supervision of designers, boat builders, engineers and technicians.  X-Yachts celebrated their forty years anniversary in 2019, and one of the anniversary presents was the chance offered, also to start-up powerboat production.  X-Yachts is confident that the new powerboat range will seem like a gift for the discerning sailor. The first model the 33C is produced with an inboard engine, a patented Petestep® designed hull making the driving experience smooth and elegant. X-Yachts is promising that the operation will be an intuitive experience, eliminating the need for a user manual, enabling everyone to run the boat feeling fully secure. The driving panel will be a light experience with integrated navigation and operation system.  The first X-Power model will be launched in January 2021, the second being a closed model is planned for launch in September 2021, and finally for now, the yard has planned yet another X-Power launch in January 2023.  The X-Power 33C will be powered by a single Yanmar engine from 320hp, and two other more powerful choices of 350hp and 370hp.  Propulsion will be line shaft, and so far the let down especially for a company which does blue water cruising sailing yachts is the CE C design category, meaning coastal waters, rivers and lakes.

Zeelander was founded in 2002 by passionate yachtsman Sietse Koopmans in Zeeland, a province located in the South West of the Netherlands. New Model: Rossinavi 49.70m

Italian shipyard Rossinavi is proud to announce the delivery, after two years under construction, of the 49.70m M/Y Lel. Developed by Kurt Lehmann, Chairman of Yacht Moments, this new Rossinavi fifty meter is the perfect balance between sporty exterior lines and contemporary interiors. Designed by renowned design firm Luca Dini Design and Architecture, which was responsible for both the exterior and interior styling, a first collaboration between Rossinavi and the Florence-based studio. Completely built in aluminium, the new Rossinavi is a celebration of fluid forms, thanks to a dynamic silhouette that harmonically culminate into both decks and hull. When the side and stern doors are lowered, interiors and exteriors organically merge into one vast and comfortable entertaining space featuring an indoor bar area where the tender can also be accommodated. The beach club is therefore an adjustable area of the yacht also including a garage which can be isolated and managed separately by closing the automatic door on the staircase that leads to the main deck. Here, the cockpit provides a double usage thanks to its raised panoramic area that overlooks the second bar ensuring maximum privacy without sacrificing entertainment space when the staircase is closed off. The upper deck features a tranquil dining area which can be transformed into a private and protected environment with a removable veranda. This innovation features outdoor heating lights and a room air conditioning system which allows for the boat to be enjoyed throughout the year and in different weather conditions. Out-News = Sport Cruiser on the Rocks in Malta

In the morning of fourth September 2020, at Bahar ic-Caghaq located in the North West coast of Malta found itself in the same position it did in 20th June.  Following over night and morning North East strong winds a sport cruiser of about eight meters in length broke its swing mooring and finished on the rocks. This part of the island is open to the Easterly winds which do become more common and strong in September and the Autumn period on the island.  Other smaller boats where involved in similar incidents around the Northern part of the Maltese island, while a Bavaria sailing yacht of about twelve meters in length also finish grounded in sand at Mellieha bay.
The boat in this accident is a Seawings 277 sport cruiser produced in England by Hardy.  Seawings was the sport cruiser planning hull range of Hardy, more famous for its semi displacement medium size pilot cabin boats, and the 277 produced in around the mid nineties although offering a typical British line of the mid nineties was interesting for offering a three part hard-top in just over eight meters of size.  The Seawings 277 offered a two plus two accommodation below deck, with a comfortable cockpit deck offering a C-shaped dinette and opposite wet-bar.  The Seawings 277 was powered by a single diesel or twin petrol gas engines with stern drive propulsion.

New Model: Fraucher 1212 Ghost

While most Ghosts stay invisible the new Frauscher 1212 Ghost has shed its shroud in Summer 2020 with an evolution of the Austrian boat builder design language that is both bold and beautiful. Along with other Frauscher models the 1212 Ghost features distinctive elements like the huge teak deck, frameless and tinted windscreen as well a straight bow design. The side air intakes, first featured on the 747 Mirage and then on the 1414 Demon are further developed and give the side profile a very distinctive look. The back features a swooping design framing the generous teak bathing platform in spectacular fashion.  Frauscher also sets new standards in the handling department: the driver sits exactly in the centre line of the boat for a perfect view around the boat. The ergonomic helm design features a bow thruster as standard and an optional Joystick operation system. The displays and instruments are recessed to give a better view even in direct sunlight. The deep-V hull is a development of the innovations used on the 1414 Demon and the 858 Fantom, two boats known for their sensational handling and rough water abilities and features two distinctive steps to push the boat onto plane faster and to accommodate a smooth and dry ride. Powered by twin Mercruiser  430hp petrol engines and or optional Volvo 440hp diesels with stern drive propulsion the Ghost 1212 offers a range of up to 300 miles.  Other Fraucher technical details in the 1212 Ghost are a standard fold-out anchor system which gives the captain complete control and view of the anchoring process without the need to leave the helm station. The three teak tables, two in the cockpit and one in the cabin are all retractable and convert into beds. The cabin features a surprisingly spacious bathroom with sink, toilet and shower as well as a unique interior design with lots of indirect lighting.

Project: Monte Carlo Yacht MCY76 Skylounge

After the success Monte Carlo Yachts received with the MCY70 Skylounge, the Italian based French Beneteau Group owned boat builder immediately followed it with the project of the two meter larger MCY76.  Skylounge or Enclosed-Bridge yachts are popular in North America, and down under Australian continents for two reasons, first they create another all weather climate controlled environment, second they free space in the main deck.  The solution is most popular with sportfish yachts above twenty meters, but in recent years thanks to the Aussie builders we are seeing the idea going in lower sizes and in more cruising dedicated motor yachts.  Hence we have seen the Beneteau Group with its headlining Monte Carlo Yachts motor yachting brand make attention and in less to a year present two models with this set up.  The MCY76 Skylounge will be accessed from an internal stair case to starboard, and will feature a central helm station with two by two forward settees.  To aft of the station is an L-shaped relax lounger with sofa opposite, while the open part aft will offer a free space.  Below the MCY76 Skylounge will benefit from two options replacing the lower helm station area, that for a large C-shaped galley, and or a large C-shaped lounger with galley aft layout.

blogger - Respecting Your Roots

With many boat builders having thirty, forty, fifty years or more behind them I see little of them respecting there past.  Yet without it would they have arrived where they are now.  Your brand was actually created by that first model you made, and what followed after that and how each model represented a step in an evolution to improve boating for you and your clients.  
Some months ago in a video interview of Norberto Ferretti it was nice to see him say the story of how the first 38 model came into existence, and that the mould and boat was actually designed by Fabio Buzzi, for legendary multi winning Italian performance boat builder Cigala and Bertinetti, who competed for a Military boat contract which did they not get.  This 38 was Ferretti first production motor boat made in three variants over the years, and now I can understand why in the eighties the North Adriatic boat builder did get a fame for a solid sea-keeping boat, considering who was behind there first boat design and for what it was created. 
Fast forward to today and I actually like to see what Riviera who will celebrate forty years in 2021 is doing on its Facebook social media platform, with a brief story to come on each model it launched so far.  This posting started on 22 August with its first 38 Mark 1 model which launched Riviera and sold in 36 units in a six year production run before it evolved into the Mk.2.  Following this I would suggest Riviera to do a page on its website about all its previous models with some basic technical information and production run and numbers sold.  I would actually suggest this to all boat builders.  For those that follow Riviera, the Australian boat builder was already giving random historical model information on its monthly newsletter, which was my favourite peace of literature in the e-mail.  
This is not the first time a boat builder does this, Riva and Italcraft had similar data on past website versions, which unfortunately is not there anymore.  I think in the case of the above two, it is a double let down since both builders represent an important core of motor boating story and evolution both from the design and technical point of view.  While Ferretti did something similar during its fifty years anniversary some ten years ago, which unfortuntatly was removed.  Sunseeker does also give a short history which starts in 1999 on the website, but in reality the boat launched its first model in 1969 with the 17 Soverign under the Poole Powerboats badge.  True story in the official website Sunseeker also has a wrong photo of the 1999 to 2001 Predator 60, shown as the 2009 to 13 shall we call it Mk.2 produced version.  Then we have Princess which while not offering anything about its history directly, it largest dealer does offer a history of all the models most with a picture and some technical detail of what it produced since its founding in 1965.

An outstanding film director for a totally unconventional yacht: Gabriele Muccino will direct a short film to celebrate the launch of the new model in the Magellano Collection, with interiors by architect and designer Vincenzo De Cotiis.  On the one hand a brand that symbolises international excellence in yachting, on the other a multiple award-winning film director whose fame has spread as far afield as Hollywood: Azimut Yachts chooses Gabriele Muccino to tell the story of the yard’s new Magellano 25 Metri yacht, which will make its world debut next September 2020. To speak about such an out of the ordinary yacht, that presents exterior lines by the well known designer Ken Freivokh, the brand has identified a new language, the short movie, which is an unprecedented choice for the yachting industry. The shipyard, for which ‘Made in Italy’ style and elegance are central to its business culture, has commissioned Gabriele Muccino to make a short film for the launch of its latest original project, recognising a ‘like spirit’ in this director renowned the world over for his talent (which has won him a remarkable four David di Donatello awards and is reknown for his Hollywood movies starring Will Smith).  The short will be shown for the first time next September in the grounds of the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in Provence, at a gala evening organised by Azimut Yachts for the exclusive premiere of Magellano 25 Metri.  With great poetry, the short film will describe the infinite nuances that unite art and emotion, engaging in an almost magical way with the Magellano, which in the narrative becomes a perfect synthesis of rigour and inspiration, discipline and creativity, reason and sentiment.

Bertram New Facilities

Iconic boat manufacturer Bertram Yachts plans to move its headquarters from South Tampa to Port Tampa Bay's property.  The marquee boat manufacturer entered a deal with Port Tampa on Tuesday August 18 to invest $25 million to add production facilities and move its headquarters to Pendola Point near Berth 21.  Bertram Yachts LLC started building leisure boats in 1960 from Miami. In 2016, Bertram Yachts bought the former Lazzara Yachts shipyard in South Tampa to establish its international HQ.  The decision to locate in South Tampa on 7 acres that year came tied with $700,000 in state and local financial incentives for its investment. However, the current site isn't sufficient to support planned production growth beyond 2022, CEO Mark Paulhus said during the virtual port meeting.  The company wants to remain in Tampa due to the current workforce it has of 55 employees, Paulhus said. He said next year the company expects to create 106 jobs and by 2023 it will create 240 jobs.  The company will now lease roughly 25 acres of land at South 50th Street and Pendola Point Road. Bertram would have the non-exclusive right to use Port Sutton Channel and easements for access and utilities. The company will have the right to use the property to construct a manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters.  Customers pay $750,000 or more for a Bertram boat before it is customised and $1 million or more to have their boats serviced, according to previous reporting.  The company needs at least 200,000 square feet for its expansion as it is growing its portfolio to manufacture fourteen different types of models, Paulhus said.  The initial term would be 20 years with three, 10-year lease extension options. For the first 18 months, rent at the port would be $17,500 per acre annually, which would be $656,250. Rent would be $35,000 per acre annually in the one-and-a-half to two-year period thereafter, or $875,000 per year. Rent would then be adjusted after the two-year mark.  The port would construct an access road and rail crossing. Bertram would reimburse the port for all costs of improvements over the initial term of the lease at a 6 percent annual rate, according to port records.  Bertram has not yet determined whether it will sell its current site or redevelop it. A decision is likely to be made next year, Paulhus said.

Cranchi Private Show Extended

Codecasa with ISYL Foundation

Three new courses organised by ISYL Italian Super Yacht Life Foundation., of which Codecasa Shipyard is one of the Founders and supporters, with the purpose of training future professional people in the yachting industry.   There are 3 courses with 75 places available for as many young high school graduates who wants to acquire knowledge, technical skills, and approach the working world to find an employment in yachting and in other strategic sectors such as logistics and tourism.

Feadship Unveils Episode Two

Feadship has released the second video in a series showcasing designs previously created with clients or other superyacht specialists that did not ultimately see the light of day. Feadship Unveils offers a fascinating glimpse into the closely guarded Feadship archives, with each episode featuring leading Feadship personalities discussing a never-seen-before design from the treasure trove. Feadship Unveils is a series of eight videos, released every two weeks on Feadship’s dedicated YouTube channel. In the week in-between Feadship also shares various related renderings and sketches on its social media platforms plus a link to the Feadship design website. The first episode a fortnight ago featured Project Freedom and today Feadship Unveils sees sales director Marsha van Buitenen and senior designer Jan Schaffers discuss Project FG, created for a fictional combination of Freddy Mercury and Forrest Gump.  The 109-metre Project FG first came to life during the Feadship Brokers Course in 2019 and is a technically feasible design that allows for wild partying at night and peaceful relaxation during daytime. Highlights include an outdoor beach club for 200 people, a hidden club in the bow for exclusive private parties, a panoramic piano lounge and a popup all-weather table tennis court.

Ferretti Customline Record Sales in July

Ferretti Group Leads the Way in Asia Pacific

Ferretti Group has had a great start to 2020: its latest results, despite the Covid-19 situation, has brought in the best order intake for the Group in the Asia Pacific since its establishment in 2012, cementing its spot at the top of the nautical industry in the region. The achievement, including 12 new yachts sold (total of 289 meters), is retail valued at €70 million, proving extraordinary results for the start of the year.  The strength of Ferretti Group Asia Pacific continues growing with the signing of two exclusive dealership agreements during the last 2 months, for distributing the brands of Ferretti Yachts, Pershing and Riva; Pen Marine for Malaysia and HGB Group for Cambodia and Laos, both selected as the new exclusive dealers due in part to a commercial strengthening plan, which also includes significant investments, that Ferretti Group is implementing globally. Formula Clean Air

2020 has heightened sanitary awareness everywhere, with a closer eye on cleanliness from washing hands to wiping down surfaces. Purified air has also become a focus, with more companies looking to suddenly concern themselves with ventilation systems, in businesses and homes as well as vehicles. Formula are no different and have made every effort to ensure your onboard health and well-being are a priority. In fact, Formula began upgrading cabin air conditioning systems with the Dometic Breathe Easy air purification system nearly a decade ago, knowing that enclosed spaces in a marine environment can develop a musty odor or foster mold or mildew growth if left unchecked, so Formula jumped to add Breathe Easy to the interior ventilation and climate control systems nearly as soon as Dometic offered it to the industry. The Breathe Easy unit is an inline, in-duct component integral to the system and treats every cubic inch of air that is heated or cooled in your cabin, doing so with a two-prong approach. First, a specific wavelength of UV light enables maximum effectiveness in reducing odours and fumes, as well as biological irritants such as viruses, bacteria and mold spores without the negative qualities of ozone generation. Then, the UV radiation activates a mesh coated with titanium dioxide, which reconfigures pollutants into more basic, nontoxic elements.  The obvious benefits of this scrubbing of your cabin air are a fresher smelling interior and reducing irritants that may exacerbate the symptoms of allergies or asthma, but of course in today’s world, knowing that an effort to destroy virus and bacteria is also a welcome comfort.

Frauscher Razzle Dazzle

Austrian contemporary artist Sabine Wiedenhofer creates Razzle-Dazzle-Boat for the Frauscher shipyard. Premiere at the Salzburg International Art Fair on 5 - 9 August 2020, Terminal 2. It is not surprising that Sabine Wiedenhofer turns a motorboat, the design icon Frauscher 747 Mirage, into a piece of art. Someone who has already made love symbols out of Pistol Bullets, from Murano glass New York's Tribeca made of hundreds of cubes, will not be limited by shapes, colours or materials even in 2020 and so Sabine Wiedenhofer is the first artist (after Jeff Koons Megayacht for Dakis Joannou) to finish the outer shell of the 747 Mirage, a breathtaking boat from Frauscher - an internationally top-rated Austrian shipyard based in Ohlsdorf, Upper Austria.   Sabine Wiedenhofer creates the blurred fusion of the Frauscher 747 Mirage with its surroundings through the material she has chosen (coloured Mirror Vinyl Wraps), as well as through the size and arrangement of the typical cube shapes, which adapt to the perfect line of the boat and the hydrodynamics of the sophisticated stepped hull. The naturally generated reflections are used to create a visual form of the speed of light, a kind of flash light on the water. When sailing slowly, the absorption of the light causes the boat to merge with its surroundings.  An effect that was deliberately created for camouflage purposes a little more than 100 years ago, on warships during the First World War, and aimed for visual irritation. Inspired by cubism, over 4,000 warships, so-called Razzle Dazzle Boats, were painted mainly by women. This painting, in combination with light, water, waves and reflections, created visual disturbances that effectively masked the warships of yesteryear. Sabine Wiedenhofer now replicates this camouflage intention, transports the theme into the present and turns a once vital necessity into a harmony of the senses and nature.  Wiedenhofer uses - similar to her Cube work - again clear lines and forms, which however become blurred by the influences of light, water and speed. The combination of sun, water, sky, clouds and waves turns the boat into a permanently changing jewel of maritime art.  Sabine Wiedenhofer: "Art cannot take place absorbed by its surroundings. As with the Merkenstein church windows, my glass city TriBeCa or my Bullets works, I play with electromagnetic waves in order to visually represent the total reflection. Every time has its art. Art knows no crisis. Art always finds its way. Whether in the form of pictures, sculptures or even boats. It needs its place in our world. I am very pleased that Frauscher has asked me to use this boat to tell a new, multidimensional story."  Florian Helmberger, Frauscher shipyard sales director: "A very special design was created for the Frauscher 747 Mirage. The highly developed stepped hull allows fast gliding at any speed. The optical effect created by Sabine Wiedenhofer now makes this boat a unique work of art that will look different every day, in every light and at every speed".

Horizon Partner with Aquaholic

Horizon have partnered together with Nick Burnham, from the famous YouTube channel Aquaholic to make a great video tour of the Horizon FD87.  Tailored for the European market, this FD87 yacht features an enclosed skylounge configuration, with a voluminous five-stateroom layout, and retains the FD Series' signature head-turning exterior that presides atop the proven High Performance Piercing Bow design and hull platform.

Sensation won the Hatteras Marlin Club Tournament with 2 blue marlin released. nspiration caught a 535.4 lb blue marlin at Swansboro Rotary tournament, winning $51,000. Sea Striker had the 2nd place fish, earning over $1 million in the Big Rock Tournament.

Riva Short Film Interpreted by Pierfrancesco Favino

Sirena Sells Six

Sirena Yachts has sold its 6th Sirena 88 after the 26.81m/88ft model, the largest in the Sirena range, was first presented at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival. With naval architecture by German Frers and interior design by Cor D. Rover, it is the 3rd unit in the Turkish brand’s flagship line to be acquired by an American customer.

Viking at Lone Star Shoot Out

Viking dominated in the recent Lone Star Shootout, claiming eight of the top 10 spots on the Overall Champion leader board and sweeping three categories. Chris Heule's Viking 74 Draggin' Up was the 2nd Place Overall Boat and 2nd Place Release Team, while the Viking 62 Sirenita, owned by Robert Briggs, took 3rd Overall and 3rd in the Release Division. The Viking 45 True Story weighed the biggest blue marlin of the event. Angler Thomas Burke hung a 460.5-pound fish to win the division. Scott Whitehead on the Viking 92 High Cotton took 2nd Place Blue Marlin with a 444.5-pound fish.  A 94.5-pound tuna gave the Viking 52 Decarb top honors in that category. Bandit, a Viking 82, claimed 2nd and 3rd Place Tuna with fish weighing 51.5 and 51 pounds.  Angler Cody Revel, fishing the Viking 50 Pass-It-On, weighed the winning wahoo at 36 pounds. Mi Novia, a Viking 43, took 2nd and 3rd with 'hoos registering 30.5 and 28 pounds. Julie Coulter, on the Viking 56 Deez Nautz, claimed Top Lady Angler.

Viking at Texas Billfish Classic

Congratulations to the crew of Draggin' Up, a Viking 74, for their 1st Place win at the Texas Billfish Classic. Sam Raspberry and Rod Reed each released a blue marlin to win the Championship Title as well as 1st Place Release Boat.  Claiming 3rd Place Boat and 3rd Place Release Boat was the Viking 56 Deez Nautz. Barry William released a blue while Julie Coulter added a pair of sails to the boat's tally. Cody Spencer, fishing the Viking 72 Pozo Seco, weighed yellowfin at 51 and 47.5 pounds to claim 2nd and 3rd Place in the Tuna Division.

Viking at White Marlin Open

The 47th annual White Marlin Open was a smashing success. The annual event saw the second highest number of registered boats (433) that hauled in fish collectively worth $6.8 million, which represents the most tournament money ever awarded in fishing. "I didn't know what to expect this year, but what a great turnout - our best since 2005!" said Andy Motsko, one of the tournament directors. "It's a testament to our passion for sportfishing." The Viking 56 Drillin & Billin weighed a 77-pound white marlin caught by Taylor Fields. That fish was good for 2nd place and a seven-figure check. The Viking 80 demonstrator boat had a solid performance in the WMO, placing 4th in the Top Boat category and 7th in Top Release Boat. Drew McDowell led the team with four white marlin releases, and Justin Healey brought a 70-pound white to the scales. Led by Captain Scott Adams, the team also released a blue marlin that was only a few inches shy of required length. From left to right: Eric McDowell, Ryan Higgins, Justin Healey, Kyle Shipp, Pat Healey and Drew McDowell. The Viking 80 Krazy Salt's also had a strong showing, placing 9th in both Top Release and Top Boat categories, with Dave Anderson Jr. taking 7th-place Top Angler.

Viking at The Invitational

The Viking 80 CE took home The Invitational with a 698.4-pound blue marlin, earning the team more than a half a million dollars in this inaugural event held out of The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama. "It's the largest 'Winner-Take-All' prize in Gulf of Mexico tournament history," says Tournament Director Jim Cox. "The tournament was created to offer a huge payout for the winning fish, while offering teams the best odds to collect the big payday." With a 112-inch blue marlin minimum, the only other boat that weighed a fish was the Viking 72 Breathe Easy, which brought a 484.2-pound blue marlin to the scales. "Both fish were donated to feed the less fortunate," said Jim.

Viking at Texas Legend

Walk West, a Viking 55 owned by Riley Rhodes and captained by Raleigh Morrison, nabbed 1st place at the Texas Legends Billfish Tournament with a 737-pound blue marlin - the largest blue marlin to ever be weighed in at Port Aransas. "It was epic and euphoric," said Riley. "We knew it was a big fish, but we didn't know it was that big. It was very emotional for the whole team."

Viking at Bisbee East Cape Offshore Tournament

In the Bisbee's East Cape Offshore Tournament, Hooray, a Viking 80 Sky Bridge, won 2nd Place Top Release with a total of 11 releases that included three blue marlin, four sailfish and four striped marlin. Another Viking, the 62 Convertible Dos Tejas, claimed 2nd Place Top Team with four blue marlin and six striped marlin. The tournament is held out of the Buena Vista Beach Resort on Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The Bisbee's tournaments also include the Los Cabos Offshore Charity Tournament and Black and Blue Marlin Tournament, which both take place October in Cabo San Lucas.

Viking at Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament

A fleet of 83 boats competed for over $850,000 in cash prizes at the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament. Alex Peebles was on the rod for the biggest tuna, a 58.4-pounder, caught on the Viking 72 Sea I Sea with captain Hunter Blount behind the wheel. Shelley Smith, fishing on Triple 'S', a Viking 60, earned the Top Lady Angler trophy with her eight billfish releases. A total of 473 billfish were released during the four days of fishing.

Out-News = Menorquin Hits Concrete Circle on Entrance in Sardinia

A Menorquin 160 HT model crashed into a concrete circle before the entrance of Marina del Sole in Cagliari, Sardinia late night on Friday 29th August.  The traditional yacht was taking on water, due to the damage it caused to the bow area, and structural elements of the boat.  The Menorquin was fast rescued and avoided sinking and the day after was lifted out of the water, for assessment and repairs.  The Marina del Sole is located South East in Cagliari commercial harbour, while this concrete circle is located couple meters away from the South East looking breakwater arm. 
Produced from 2003 up to 2009 the Menorquin 160 HT was a popular model from this Menorca based boat builder, which apart selling good in Spain, also had good sales in Italy.  The Menorquin 160 offers a three double cabins interior layout, with a semi displacement hull shape, and powered by twin 370hp engines it reached speeds up to eighteen knots.  A Fly flybridge version of the 160 was also available.  Menorquin started having success when it started doing cruisers inspired to the menorchino, the traditional Balearic island fishing boat in 1997.  Menorquin was sold to a fund investment and unfortunately closed its doors around 2011.
