New Model: Ferretti Custom Line 42 Navetta

The Ferretti Group and Custom Line Superyacht Yard in Ancona celebrates the launch of  the brand new 42 Navetta.  A super yacht just over 300 Gross Tonnage in size, the Ferretti Custom Line 42 Navetta is the result of a design process that has kept the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the Group Engineering Department and Studio Zuccon International Project busy for more than two years.  The 42 Navetta projects a vision of the sea expressed by design in motion, sophisticated elegance and extraordinary performance.  Both the interiors and exteriors of the new Navetta 42 can be extensively customized, so that each owner can create their own dream boat. The layout optimizes the way the generous spaces are used, adopting an innovative and attentive approach to the organisation of the interiors and particularly the outdoor settings, which exploit the four decks to the full to offer the utmost privacy and comfort at sea. A huge suite on the main deck is reserved for the owner, while the layout on the lower deck features four VIP suites. The captain has a spacious living area forward on the upper deck, with a private cabin and direct access to the main helm station.  All the interiors of the first Navetta 42 unit have been customized according to both the owner’s desires and the perfectly tailor-made style embodied by Custom Line, which is expressed at its very highest bespoke level in the Navetta line.  Navetta 42 confirms once again that the launch of a Custom Line unit is a magical moment, one that in this particular case follows closely on the heels of the fifth Navetta 37 unit and the fourth Navetta 33. Three more Navetta 42 units are already under construction.  The backdrop for all these recent success stories is the Superyacht Yard in Ancona, the Ferretti Group shipyard that is now rightfully held up as a centre of European excellence.  Ferretti Customline 42 Navetta will be given its official debut in September at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Project: Ocea Nemo 50 Ice

Conceived with discerning owners in mind, the Nemo 50 Ice super yacht is a new, ambitious project that the French Shipyard is developing in conjunction with its partners Aldo Manna, the head of the Ocea Mediterranean Office that it opened just a few months ago in Italy, and designer Fulvio de Simoni. As a matter of fact, the Nemo 50 ICE is intended for people who have a dream and are unwilling to compromise on what they want, as sailing around the North or South poles, with a 50 meter super yacht with a gross tonnage of 499 GT. The Nemo 50 Ice is to be built in compliance with the requirements of the Ice Class rules and will feature an extreme, technical design as designer Fulvio de Simoni wanted to emphasize the very DNA of the French brand. The concept, design and construction criteria of this vessel exquisitely mirror the spirit of the Ocea Shipyard, whose core business is the design and construction of military ships. The Ocea Nemo 50 Ice has been conceived to brave the seas at high altitudes while searching for unique landscapes or lifetime adventures. An ideal yacht to explore places of pure magic, such as the Drake Channel, or the Cuverville Island with its dark rocky mountains, or the astonishing Danco Island, just to name a few. Every detail has been carefully designed to ensure that guests will enjoy a comfortable stay for very long periods of time and to optimize navigation also under extreme conditions. By way of example, tenders, rigid-hulled inflatable boats or landing crafts can be launched and recovered by using dedicated handling equipment: as a matter of fact, the Nemo 50 Ice davits are exactly the same as those installed on the brand’s military ships to handle landing crafts in full safety.  This concept features an important design solution, a technical area located forward on the “raised deck”, also intended to accommodate the hiking equipment: the planking level in this area, which communicates directly with the main saloon, is less than one meter above waterline to ensure that guests can access the tenders quickly and safely. Also, a preferred open-air area for guests who can enjoy it while being sheltered from bad weather.  The engine room is a spacious, well ventilated area with every component, apparatus and equipment can be easily accessed for emergency repair by the technical staff. A six sq.mt fully-equipped workshop and a control room fitted with all the remote-control systems needed to operate the vessel’s key systems also in “manual mode”, are available. Both the workshop and the control room are directly connected to the crew accommodations through a central passageway in the lower deck, in order not only to maximize the crew’s efficiency and convenience but also to enhance the guests’ comfort and privacy.  The shafts of the Nemo 50 Ice are integrated into dedicated structural skegs, which will protect them, along with the propellers and the two rudders, should the hull hit an iceberg or partially submerged objects, this type of construction being a typical feature of all the yachts Ocea has built so far.  The guests’ accommodation area has been designed in order to maximize guests comfort during long stays on board: the owner’s apartment is a full-width design covering the fore portion of the main deck houses a private lounge which can be used either as a relaxation corner or as a study area, should one need working aboard. There is a sizable bathroom where even a large sauna can be incorporated, if needed.  The living spaces are also very spacious and thought to maximize comfort during long stays, as evidenced by the large open-space on main deck amidships.  When travelling to far-off or unexplored lands, the crew plays a crucial role. That’s why they have large, efficient and comfortable spaces. As any crew sailing across the oceans is made up of expert people highly qualified technical personnel or explorers, their accommodations need to be designed and arranged with their duties in mind.

New Model: Absolute 48 Navetta

During the 2018 dealer meeting Absolute unveiled the 48 Navetta, new entry level and fourth model to the modern explorer yacht range as visioned by the Italian boat builder which has brought so much success to the firm since introduced in 2014 with the 58.  The Absolute 48 Navetta for a modern explorer cruiser just under the fifteen meter mark offers interesting spaces both outside, see spacious flybridge, and inside.  The interior impresses a lot especially the three cabin guest area of the lower deck with the side looking double berth design of the forward stateroom impressing for its space, which really seems to give nothing less to that of a midships design.  This idea is not new, I remember Fairline and Uniesse using a similar concept in a slightly bigger boat, and I always do think that in between the thirteen and fifteen meter sizes this should be used a bit more instead of going for the simple eqauation of a high freeboard in order to fit a midships cabin.  But the Absolute 48 Navetta lower deck extra space does not stop and thanks to an important beam its port side midships located VIP cabin is also another spacious offer.  Completing the lower deck in the Absolute 48 Navetta is also an aft crew cabin.   The 48 Navetta main deck offers the embraced by Absolute aft galley design and an area which connects with the aft deck.  As all Absolute since quite a few years the 48 Navetta is IPS propulsion-ed and is powered by twin Volvo 435hp engines.  Worth to note is the important fuel tank capacity of 1800 liters which at optimum cruise should give an interesting range.

New Model: Tiara 49 Coupe

Tiara Yachts takes the Coupe series to the new with the introduction of the 49 model. Tiara first Coupe the 50 introduced in September 2015 defined a new evolution in design, which later was reflected with the introduction of the 39, 44 and 53 models all in the spirit of timeless classic down east lobster boat inspired design, and backed by Volvo’s easy to operate IPS pod drive system.  The 49 Coupe builds on the successful momentum of the range and elevates that experience with the introduction of expanded interior space throughout. New Coupe buyers will feel the openness immediately in the single level salon followed by the lower cabins and spacious master. The interior is further enhanced with the introduction of a full suite of hardwood finishes and designer fabrics in tune with summer fashions and trends.  The transom showcases a fully integrated swim platform which may be optioned with a hydraulic lift. Entry to the cockpit is via the port side steps through a manual locking stainless steel gate. One of the most exciting changes on the new 49 Coupe is the rear cockpit lounge seat finished in exterior grade Ultraleather which now incorporates a starboard side aft corner to accommodate more guests while entertaining. A port side aft facing seat and high gloss adjustable teak table add to the ambiance of the open air cockpit.  The hallmark outdoor/in living spaces of the first Coupe model is prominent in the new 49 with entry into the salon via a cockpit sliding door framed by windows on either side. The galley features both port and starboard include drawer style refrigerator/ freezer, two burner cook-top, microwave/convection oven and storage above and below. Large quartz counter-tops complete the galley space. Step up to salon seating and helm area with its port side U-lounge, convertible to a berth, and starboard love seat. The dual companion helm seat is fully adjustable.  Volvo Joystick controls are fully integrated with Garmin electronics and remote. The fully integrated fiberglass hardtop frames large tempered safety glass panes port, starboard and forward providing an unimpeded platform to safely and enjoyably operate the 49.  One of the real joys of the Coupe series is the visual access from virtually any point in the salon and cockpit to what really matters when yachting, enjoying the water all around you!  The lower master and VIP suites are accessed through a center stairway. The master features a private head and center-line queen pedestal berth with innerspring mattress.  Audio visual, storage and hull-side windows make the master a great retreat any time of the day. The VIP shares a day head with the lower atrium but still maintains a private entrance for sleeping. Additional hull side windows allow plenty of natural light carrying the open living theme throughout. The atrium features a port side lounge that may also be used as a berth.  The mechanical space and engine room are accessed through the large cockpit floor hatch. Project: Blue Game BG42

Blue Game presents the project of the BG42 new entry model to the sport utility cruiser and yachts range and replacement to the 40 model. The BG42 is based on the platform of the previous BG40 model with important new design changes added in both technical and accommodation areas, with Zuccon entering in a team along Lou Codega hull designer and Luca Santella the inventor of this concept and range of models.  The important changes in the BG42 are the Volvo IPS pod drive propulsion choice versus the Cummins engines ZF pods combination of the previous model, a redesign of the hard top now featuring more aggressive looks, and an interior layout now having an open plan layout with a full beam master berth to midships.  The old BG40 featured a more family friendly four plus two cabin layout with V-shaped dinette forward and two guest cabins at midships.  A nice addition in the BG40 is an extended bathing platform with electronic lift making tender launching and recovery easy.  The new Blue Game BG42 will be powered by twin Volvo 435hp with IPS pod propulsion with speeds estimates for the ten tons displacement up to 35 knots.

New Model: Canados 88 Evolution

Canados has launched the new 88 Evolution, what is a direct evolution and replacement of the successful 86 model of which 46 have been delivered.  Showing the success of the 86 came also from one loyal Canados client who had four 86’s built over the course of thirteen years production.  The new 88 Evolution like the previous model will be a semi-custom made to order build. The Canados 88 Evolution is based on the 86 model platform, which over the years has received so much praise for its incredible sea keeping ability.  The 88 Evolution had a lot of extra work done on project analysis to have a low center of gravity as possible even with new standard to have amenities as the flybridge hard-top. The Canados 88 Evolution comes with a reversed deck saloon overlooking the water and gigantic saloon floor to ceiling windows.  The main deck layout remains an example of practicality with its oversize saloon with direct sea view, thanks to the cut down bulwarks, dining room, Boffi galley, day head and crew dinette in the wheelhouse. The lower deck still offers its reputed four cabin layout with a VIP to the bow, two twin guests cabins to the sides, and the full beam owner’s suite in the center. Like most if not all Canados build over the years since 1946 the 88 Evolution is a semi custom construction with every build being tailor made to fit owners requests.  The Canados 88 Evolution is powered by twin Cat engines 1800hp which give a top speed of 32 knots and a cruise of 28 knots.

Project: Azimut Grande 25 Metri

Set to launch in September 2018 at the Cannes boat show Azimut presents the project of the Grande 25 Metri, new entry level of the big super yacht range of the famous Italian motor boats builder, which with this model starts today at 25 meters in length.  The Azimut Grande 25 Metri should also be a replacement for the 80 which was launched in Summer 2013.  Designed by the usual since early nineties Azimut designer Stefano Righini, the Grande 25 Metri presents itself as a streamlined super yacht that seems sculpted in wind, with ample space for life in the open air, to keep the connection with the sea alive. As most of the latest Azimut models the 25 Metri is to be built what the Italian builder calls Carbon Tech, meaning for a super structure, roll bar, hard-top and transom build of the light and strong carbon fiber technology.  The Grande 25 Metri is created for owners who likes a sporty looking flybrdge super yacht, something which is definitely not new from Azimut with models as the 68 Plus and 98 Leonard clearly being the first inspiration for the Italian builder and Righini in the end nineties and early parts of the new second millennium for this design direction. The interior design of the Grande 25 Metri is by Achille Salvagni who presents an unprecedented mix of the elegant and the casual, large volumes, a garage for the tender and a totally separate crew circuit to offer the owner maximum privacy, without affecting the boat’s contours, which seem light, sleek and almost sensual. Another surprising aspect in the interior design, which gives an original twist to the living area: with the typical separation of sofa and dining areas making way for one big refined setting, decorated with great care and personality. So, when no one is dining inside, there’s much more space to enjoy in two comfy living areas. If needed, the table in front of the sofa can be raised to become a spacious dining table for eight. Still the Grande 25 Metri shows flexibility and for those who prefer their spaces laid out in a more traditional way another version based on the classical approach is also available. Achille Salvagni also accents the desire for informality by introducing lacquered surfaces in colors ranging from purple to sugar paper, skillfully weighed to establish new tenets of class and refinement, in a continuously developing style that never opts for the obvious.  The galley and helm station can be separated from the other settings by sliding doors and switchable frosted glass panels, allowing the crew to get on with their business without interfering with the lives of the owner and guests.  The four cabins are in the lower Deck and three of them have double beds, while the crew has a cabin for the captain, a second cabin with bunk beds, and a crew mess that can be accessed from a stairway aft of the superstructure.  The Azimut Grande 25 Metri is powered by a twin standard Man engines of 1650hp and or optional 1800hp units.

New Model: Sunseeker 50 Predator

Sunseeker is usually associated of presenting products of a modern pedigree, always with that something newer and latest to the previous model.  So when Sunseeker introduced the new 50 Predator, it was interesting to see the builder taking an evaluation step and looking to the basics in what it has offered in the fifteen to eighteen meter sizes in the last six to eight years and delivering it in a fifteen meter package.  The new 50 Predator is a modern sport yacht, it is in the end a Sunseeker, and in its size it still one of the most future looking machines, but is also spacious and in its category of a fifteen meter sports yacht possibly offers the most space.  But the more you analyze the 50 Predator more interesting its gets especially when you see it is powered by a basic line shaft propulsion, and yet in all this still offers a much more spacious interior to that of the 50 San Remo it replaces.  The full beam midships owners cabin of the 50 Predator is bigger to that of the San Remo, as is all the lower and main deck.  So the questions comes automatic without IPS pod drives, and only half a meter more of length how did Sunseeker manage to find all this space in the 50 Predator?  The Sunseeker 50 Predator is one of the most exciting boats I have seen from Poole and is a class leader in its size and in all this to what I have heard is also competitively priced.

Project: Rivera 39 Sports Motor Yacht

During the Sanctuary Cove boat show and official launch of Riviera second in size small model, the 395 SUV, the down under boat builder revealed details for a new entry level flybridge the 39 Sports Motor Yacht.  This new Riviera takes smaller flybridge motor cruiser spot from the current 43 Open Flybridge, and by my understanding since it is vanished from the Riviera website it also replaces the 39 Open Flybridge project as presented in end Summer 2017 with the 395 SUV.   For the 39 Sports Motor Yacht, Riviera did not just change the name and some decals but also updated the flybridge design and layout to a more modern European layout of a forward helm station and L-shaped sitting dinette to port side, and wet bar and bench settee looking to the helm to starboard.   A wrap around fiberglass spoiler also fills more the flybridge making it more sporty.  For those who remember the layout of the 39 Open Flybridge project was of a more sportfish design with a back located twin settee helm station, and L-shaped dinette forward of the fly.  For the remaining fly and lower decks the Riviera 39 Sports Motor Yacht is the same as the Open Flybridge or the 395 SUV; with a living all located on the main deck; galley and sitting in the interior, and a twin cabin five berth lower deck layout.  Power will come from twin Volvo 435hp engines with IPS pod drives.

INBUILD ~ Casa 38 T-Top Part 5 of 5

The Casa 38 T-Top is nearing completion and in the above photo we are seeing a very close image to what will be the final product.  An indeed great sport cruiser even with some important details not yet fitted.  But the windshield is fitted, engines installed, and passarelle also.  In the above picture the Casa 38 T-Top construction status is all about refining the details which will make it from good to a fantastic, and special for its owner considering the custom detailing that went into the build.  With most details refined and cleared the Casa 38 T-Top will go for its first sea trials, and then again it will return for the fitment of the T-Top, after which hand over to a proud owner, who had the opportunity to follow and customize the construction from start to finish will be given.  An unusual story for an eleven meter sport cruiser, with most builds in this size being a start to finish standard production build with very little to decide for the owner in design both outside and inside.

Project: Beneteau 47 Swift Trawler

Beneteau present the project for a new Swift Trawler 47 to be World launched at the coming 2018 Cannes boat show in September.  A design of Andreani at this moment it is not yet understood if the 47 is a replacement of the 44 or 50 model, since it packs so much features in just fourteen meters of size.  One of the favorite details shown in the renderings is the single level living space between aft deck and the interior saloon galley area.  Down below the Beneteau 47 Swift Trawler features three double cabins; owners cabin forward, twin berth cabin to port side, and Vip double to starboard.  The Beneteau 47 Swift Trawler will be powered by twin Cummins 425hp engines with traditional line shaft propulsion.  Beneteau will also offer a hard top option for the flybridge.

Web: Viking New Web Site

Viking yachts from New Jersey East coast Atlantic side of the US, renowned for its high quality sportfish yachts and cruisers updates its website to a totally new design. While making more a name for itself in the past two decades Viking yachts history started back in 1964 when Bob and Bill Healey bought struggling New Jersey boat builder Petterson-Viking, who at the time was building a 37 foot wooden Sportfish cruiser. Seven years pass and the Healey brothers show the way forward by presenting the 33 Convertible, Viking's first fiberglass construction. A year later to this passes and it is 1972 when Viking presents the 40 Convertible which in a sixteen year production run with over six hundred units delivered sets the record as the company best seller. Viking makes a constant growth in the years following this till the dull recession period hitting the US economy in 1990 and with it coming the famous 10% luxury tax. This time frame which lasted till 1993 saw many builders close the doors and Viking reducing its workforce from 1500 to 80. On facts the only reason Viking did not close up was thanks to the resolute of the Healey brothers who risked there own capital to keep going on, and where also among the key players for the removal of this taxation. While this storm was a difficult moment for the yachting industry, after it Viking gained the upper hand and became a leader in the semi production Sportfish boat segment. The signs of the growth experienced after the luxury tax three year period could be seen in the presentation of newer bigger models, plant expansion modernization in 2000, and the opening of a service facility in Riviera Beach Florida on 2002. Today Viking has the capacity to build one hundred cruisers and yachts a year, in a twenty seven model line up which start with the 37 Billfish to the 2018 introduced 93 Motor Yacht flagship. Viking currently offers four ranges: Open Bridge, Billfish, Motor Yachts, Sport Yacht, Open, and Enclosed Bridge and its latest model is the 68 Convertible. Viking new website takes you around with the following buttons: Models, Locate a Dealer, About Viking, and Viking Events. New Model: Sanlorenzo 500Exp

In the magnificent background of Elite Days 2018, a week-end of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Sanlorenzo, among the world leaders for the production of yachts and superyachts, the first unit of 500Exp has been launched with a Buddhist ceremony, in full respect for the traditions of the young Chinese shipowner.  Evolution of the 460Exp, it represents a perfect testimony to the predisposition for personalization that has always characterized Sanlorenzo.  Developed in close contact with the owner, the new 500Exp makes it possible to have a longer stern area, thus meeting a specific request of the client to provide a landing area for helicopters, without losing the configuration of a superyacht Explorer, ensuring the most authentic sense of adventure on the open sea, thanks also to the many “toys” in the equipment.  In its 47 metres and 500 tons, the 500Exp revolutionizes the concept of expedition boat, proposing itself as a luxury superyacht for trips to exotic and distant destination: as a matter of fact, the superyacht is ready to take a long journey around the world, in the spirit of leisure and comfort, without giving up on that touch of design and elegance, of which Sanlorenzo has made its atout in the last years.  Working on the concept of space, combining experience and innovation with a unique design approach, Sanlorenzo thus demonstrates once again its ability to revolutionize the way on living on board.

Project: Arcadia A105

Arcadia is proud to announce that the new A105 will make its official debut at the Cannes boat show 2018. Based on the 2016 launched A100, the A105 is proving to be an instant hit on the market as attested by the fact that the third hull is already in build.  The first A105 is an order from a returning Arcadia client, who is on the third unit ordered from the 2009 founded innovative Italian Naples based boat builder.  Again a design to Hot Lad studio from Milan of Michele Dragoni, Enrico Lumini, and Antonio Romano, the A105 expands two feet of length from the A100 and gives more space to the flybridge and adding a more spacious top deck both inside and outside.  The main deck on the A105 is also revised with the new model expanding further space outside, with a double sized aft deck compared to that of the A100.  As is usual to Arcadia the A105 is fully custom build by owner super yacht, with the yard offering over fifty combinations of various interior and exterior layouts to choose from.

blogger - Return of the Aft Cabin

Its good to see a couple boat builders and designers rediscovering the aft cabin layout and how it can work in today's boating World.  The need to have a large full beam midships owners cabin, and moving of the engines always further backwards has practically made it the aft cabin a thing of history in the last decade plus.  Not for all it seems, with a couple designers and builders having a different idea for the aft cabin.
First it was Wim Van Der Valk and designer Cor D.Rover who in 2016 presented the BeachClub concept which later it became a range and today features three models.  The Dutch builder and designer created an innovative way of using the aft area by putting the living dining area aft, which as the range name says, which with the opening of the aft bulk head this becomes a beach club once you are at anchor.  Result was that the custom to order build sold immediately with a sale for a 600 and 660 Flybridge coming in only a few months after project presentation.
Second it was Maritimo and the new X60 recently launched at the Sanctuary Cove 2018 boat show.  If someone is pushing new boundaries about what an aft cabin should be and how to make customers interested about it is the new 2018 Maritimo X60.  The X60 not only brings an aft cabin but also delivers on versatility and choice to the buyer.  The X60 also impresses for being a sport yacht of just nineteen meters to offer four double cabins, if a customer chooses the aft cabin to be the master suite.  Yes if you choose because in the Maritimo X60 you have three choices for the aft area; a large full beam owners suite, or a beach club, or the today standard of a tender garage.
