New Model: Bavaria 43 SportHT

Bavaria continue to update its sport cruiser line, and as it has done in recent years presents the 43 SportHT, the hard top version of 43 Sport model.  Designed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA the 43 SportHT has basically the clever laid plan of the normal open Sport version both above and below decks, and can sleep from six in two cabins, or eight persons in the three cabin optional choice layout.  The cockpit of the 43 is huge, offering an extended bathing platform, aft sun pad, C-shaped dinette, L-shaped settee all to port, and helm with a galley and wet bar behind it to starboard.  This area is up to the dinette covered by the hard top which can nearly all open up.  This makes the 43 SportHT become a very open boat, with the benefits of quick closing the hard top offers.  There is as the standard open version three engine options for the Bavaria 43 SportHT, but I think the gasoline standard power of twin Mercruiser 430hp is very misleading for a boat which has thirteen meters of length and has as its vocation to cruise.

Project: Azimut 62S Italia

Azimut presents the project of the 62S Italia, what is a further development of the 62S model with bigger engines, and modified interior and exterior.  The 62S Italia as Azimut's press release says gets closer to the 72S model in some features and more so in the interior, being now finished with Zebrawood, instead of Wenge.  The hard top of the 62 S Italia gets also a new look now having two glasses which are also curved and feature an Anti-UV film.   The crew cabin of the 62 S Italia is expanded having two berths, and the standard plan of the guest rooms will have three cabins as standard.  The galley of the 62S Italia has also been modified and can now be separated from other areas thanks to the sliding doors. The 62S Italia will also feature a new innovation from the Azimut Benetti Group called the Bird's Eye View, what is a system of three docking cameras that reconstruct the boat’s image in real time with respect to the dock and the other craft, merging the sources into a single view, which will make it possible to execute maneuvers with great precision.  The 62S Italia will also be powered with twin MTU 1150hp here having a total of 270 more horses versus the previous 62S, which will give a top speed of 37 knots.  Surprisingly there is no mention so far if a ZF4000 pod option will be available for this new version.  Considering that the 62S was used as Research and Design for the new big ZF pods I did accept this new 62S version to have them as standard.  So far Azimut seems not much a big fan of pod drives using them in only two models; 43S and Atlantis 50x4.

Project: Sessa 34 Key Largo Inboard

Sessa presents the 34 Key Largo, what is a step into the future from the Italian builder and its well known  center console line up.  This model is to be available in inboard as rendering above, or with outboard version which has just been launched. But the 34 Key Largo moves the barrier and challenges what we have seen coming from other builders with some innovative features, offering an accommodation and well thought out layout which looks to other more cruiser orientated customers.  For the 34 Key Largo, Sessa has pulled out all it has in terms of studies, development and quality: 1500 computer files, 200 m² resin parts modelled with the 3D moulding machine and more than 300 different components that make up the boat.  The 34 Key Largo is a center console but also a cabin boat which offers a ten centimeters short of two meters head room below.  The layout here can sleep four in two areas; convertible V-shaped settee which becomes a double bed to fore, twin berth to midships under the stairs, galley, and separate shower head.  The cockpit deck offers an all the boat living area; center helm, wet bar, sun lounger to fore, L-shaped settee, and a sunpad aft which in only available in the inboard version. An optional rigid T-Top with electric bimini which covers the cockpit is also available.  The Sessa 34 Key Largo power is in its stern drive inboard version twin Volvo petrol 320hp or 220hp Diesel engines.  The outboard version is powered by twin Yamaha 300hp and can reach top speeds up to 45 knots.

Engine: Volvo D6-400 400hp

Volvo Penta invented the high-performance diesel sterndrive in 1977 and has been the undisputed market leader in this constantly expanding segment ever since. The latest addition confirms this position: a 400 hp version of the D6 engine, matched with a refined DPH Duoprop drive which equals to be the current world’s most powerful diesel sterndrive.  Back in 1977, the high performance diesel sterndrive was launched in the form of Volvo Penta’s D40 with single prop drive. A mere 125 hp powered boats such as the Sunseeker 23 DC. The launch of Duoprop and the compressor concept quickly made Volvo Penta the first choice for diesel sport performance.  The D6-400 engine is based on the proven design of the IPS600 engine. Compared to the current D6-370, the 400-version has supercharging with a larger turbo and a tuned mechanical compressor. The charge air cooler has increased capacity to handle the increased flow, and the cooling system has a new heat exchanger and improved oil cooling. The combustion chamber features modified design, a new valve position and increased capacity injectors. The efficient combustion leads to low overall emissions.  Torque is also important in the new D6-400 and this is where the Volvo Penta compressor concept excels by producing charge air, and thereby a massive torque directly from low rpms. The D6-370 is today unmatched and the new D6-400 is 10 % better. Already at 2000 rpm it reaches its maximum torque of 970 Nm – enough to produce safe and fast acceleration onto the plane for great driving enjoyment.  Another Volvo Penta specialty is to develop engine, drive and propellers as a package, rather than separate components. This is essential to transform the torque and power to acceleration, top speed and driving pleasure. The DPH Duoprop drive was introduced in 2003 as the strongest and most efficient sterndrive ever. To handle the D6-400 while still maintaining a slim and efficient underwater body, Volvo Penta developed new technology.  The upper unit comes with a new bearing box with a new roller bearing, a reinforced suspension fork and redesigned gear geometry. The lower unit features gear with geometry developed by Volvo Penta and made from unique super-high tensile steel with efficient lubrication. Lubrication has also been redesigned to ensure that the drive can handle the tremendous forces with high reliability.

Project: Sunseeker 53 Manhattan

Sunseeker presents the project of the 53 Manhattan, what is a further development and replacement of the 52 model.  A difference of larger windows both on the top and lower decks shows on the outside of this new project.  The lower deck for examples replaces the three vertical windows, with a large glassed surface as found on the latest Sunseeker models.  But differences are found in nearly all areas; from the aft deck now available in two options; sunpad or small sunpad and settee, and the third guest cabin now having two in line berths in replacement to bunks, larger owners stateroom with berth being in the center and looking to aft, and a split level saloon with a C-shaped dinette to port side on the raised area by the helm.

New Model: Jet Tern 63 Apollo

After making a good name with the Selene trawler explorer cruisers and yachts range, and following this with the Artemis modern planning boat line in 2010, Jet Tern takes another challenge to the Power Catamaran and presents the 63 Apollo model.  For this new challenge Jet Tern hired important French names for the design of its first catamaran, and the results has been good seeing that hull two is under construction, and a smaller Apollo is at the moment in the tooling department. The 63 Apollo a name which represents the Greek God of the Sun, is a three cabin Power Catamaran, and surprises for having the owner stateroom located on the main deck, and in the centre part of the boat.  This apart giving extra comfort is unusual in a yacht of nineteen meters even in a catamaran.  The two other guest suites are to be found one in each hull, and both offer circle shaped large view windows.  An extra optional fourth double cabin is available on request.  Living space is impressive and thanks to the eight meters plus of beam the 63 Apollo offers 145 squared meters of space, this being divided with a galley located behind to starboard of the central helm, and lounge sofas found on the entrance of the main deck.  Power is from twin Cats 1010hp engines which give a top speed of 28 knots, and a cruise of 25, but a long range option of smaller 450hp Cats is also available.
Technical Data:
LOA - 19.06 m (62.1ft)
Waterline Length - 17.85 m

Draft - 1.15 m
Fuel Capacity - 7000 l, optional 10,000 l for long range

Projects: Cranchi M 40, Cracnhi M 35, Cranchi 30 Endurance

After making the last two years concentrating on its new Yacht Class line which today features three models and goes up to 66 feet, Cranchi goes into the fall of 2011 in full attack to the sport cruiser market between the thirty and forty feet mark with three upcoming new projects set to launch in Cannes and Genoa.  This is a size which without a doubt showed Cranchi build a strong reputation for quality and reliable boats since the early nineties.  The first of the projects shown above is the M 40, which takes a lot from its exterior looks from the latest new model coming from Cranchi what is the 56 Soft Top. But the M 40 is a huge challenge which represents a size which have given a lot of growth to Cranchi, think models as the 40/41 Mediterranee, or 39 and 41 Endurance.  The M 40 has a lot of strong features from a very spacious aft cockpit deck with sun pad, C-shaped settee, a couple loungers, and dual seat helm station, to a spacious cabin area below.  This sleeps a total of six or seven, in two cabins plus a convertible dinette.  It also features two heads, and a very so far on plan spacious looking galley.  Power for what is an over all sport cruiser of 44 feet in length is from twin Volvo 300 or 330hp engines with dual prop stern drive propulsion.  Speed estimates for a boat weighing close to ten tons dry are of 33 knots max with the twin 330hp engines.
The M 35 is again a hard soft top sport cruiser from Cranchi.  In my thinking this model is the hard top version of the 36 Zaffiro, and  should replace the highly successful and still wanted over one thousand units delivered 34 Zaffiro.  The M 35 does in fact share hull shape from the 36 Zaffiro with an identical length and beam, with the same sleeping six in two cabins including the convertible dinette lower deck layout.  The main deck aft cockpit is still a split level area but has been redesigned with the entrance now moved to port instead of starboard as is the 36, and features an extra lounger and new style wet bar.  Power choices are the same to what the 36 Zaffiro offers from twin 260 to optional 300hp Volvo engines.  Top speed is a 34 knots max with twin 300hp engines.
The Cranchi 30 Endurance continues the legacy created in the eighties by what is a classic from the North East Italian boat builder the 31 Endurance.  With the 30 Endurance Cranchi joins the other Italian builders who think walk around style outside, and a comfortable cabin area below.  This brings a good compromise for a day boat, with good cabin space for a small family to cruise.  In fact the 30 Endurance sleeps four below in a convertible dinette, double berth at midships, and a separate shower head.  The galley is located outside, and a light material sunroof on top of the center helm is also available as optional.  A total of five Volvo engine choices are available in both petrol and diesel from a single 270, to twin 225hp.  Speed estimates are for 32 knots max with a single 320hp petrol engine.

Project: Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II

Cheoy Lee continue to upgrade its Marco Polo Series, and present the second of the series what is a 46m  transocean super yacht designed by Ron Holland to explore the world's remote regions.  Marco Polo II continues the concept of hull one of the series what is a European quality built in China, typifying her builder's approach to modern fuel efficient green cruising.  Accommodation for the Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II is a four or five double guests cabins, with an owners stateroom, apartment style located on the top deck.  The Marco Polo series features a seaworthy efficient hull with a bulbous bow. Her look is practical and purposeful and low maintenance silken finish suits her word girding role. The Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II is to be powered by a single 1911hp Cat engine, with a spare wing 315hp jet propelled motor.  Top speed is a 14 knots max, 13 cruise, and an economic of 10 knots giving 6000 nm of range.
