New Model: Iliad 53F

Following the rise of explorer and cross over style motor yachts, power catamarans seem to be the next big thing in cruiser able motor yachts.  Iliad is a new name directed by Italian naval architect Riccardo Bulgarelli, and constructed at Zhuhai, China, debuting in 2023 with a 62 model, with this followed by this 53F.  Measuring sixteen meters of length and over seven of beam, the Iliad 53F started off to a flying start by winning the 2024 Multihull of the Year Award.  The Iliad 53F offers an accommodation sleeping six with an owners stateroom located in the starboard hull.  A single berth crew cabin is located to forward of the port-side hull.  The living is all on the main deck, with the standard layout offering an astern galley, dinette opposite, and a relaxing sofa to starboard.  The Iliad 53F is powered by twin Cummins 480hp for speeds up to 24 knots and a cruise of twenty knots, with a possible range up to 2500 nautical miles at optimum slower speeds.  Iliad also offers the 53F with e-motion hybrid power equipped to Volvo 480hp engines.

Sport Cruiser Ends On Reef in Acciaroli, Italy

A sport cruiser of twelve meters in length ended grounded atop a reef near the waterfront of Acciaroli, Pollica, to the South West of Italy on the late afternoon of Tuesday twelfth August.  The boat was assisted by the Guardia Costiera, who removed the boaters first, and then with the help of two boats removed the sport cruiser from the reef, and towed her to safety at a nearby marina.  An investigation on the accident has been opened.
The sport cruiser in this accident is a Rio 42 Art as produced from 2007 to 2009.  The 42 Art was a replacement to the Rio 40 Art, with the model evolving to a totally new 42 Art model.

Classic Cuddy Cruiser Ends Aground Near Manerba, Lake Garda

A classic cuddy sport cruiser of seven meters in length with two persons onboard ended aground as it collided with the reefs of Isola San Biagio, in the Manerba fraction of Lake Garda at 22:30 of Monday eleven August. The two boaters were rescued by the Guardia Costiera of Salo who were also assisted by the Vigili del Fuoco of Salo. The two boaters reported no injuries, and were taken at Porto Torchio.  An operation to salvage the cuddy cruiser was organized the following day.
The sport cruiser in this grounding is a Bruno Abbate Primatist 23 as produced from 1978 to 1990 in over 750 units.  The Primatist 23 was the first Bruno Abbate boat, launching the sport cruiser and yacht company with his name.  The Primatist 23 was replaced by the Primatist 25.

Azimut Cruiser Collides Into Two Sailboats in Ericousa, Greece

A twelve meter Azimut flybridge cruiser with Italian flag collided into two sailboats of nine meters and eleven meters on the island of Ericousa, a Greek Ionian island on the afternoon of Monday eleven August.  The Azimut flybridge cruiser was filmed and social media shared as it collided into the smaller sailboat first, and then turning and pushing it into the other larger sail yacht. As they collided the smaller sailboat was also demasted, and in this destroying part of the safety rails and damaged the toe-rail of the larger sail yacht.  As this is happening the skipper of the Azimut is seen on the flybridge having difficulty in controlling the vessel as its going into slow mode in the sail yachts as he goes down from the flybridge to the main deck to turn off the engines.  Othon Port Authority responded to the accident and confirmed no injuries occurred from the collision, and only material damage was reported.  All three yachts were forbidden from leaving the harbour, until all papers and the correct documentation was presented.
The Azimut flybridge cruiser in this collision is the AZ Quarantadue as designed by Stefano Righini and produced from 1998 to 2004.  The AZ Quarantadue was a replacement to the AZ Quaranta with the evolving with small differences into the 42 Evolution and then produced for four more years.

Astondoa Super Yacht Destroyed by Fire in Ibiza

A 28 meter Astondoa super yacht titled Da Vinci with seven persons onboard including guests and crew, had an onboard fire first and then was wrecked by a blaze as it was cruising near Es Vedra to the South West of Ibiza on 11:20 of Monday eleventh August.  The yacht was assisted by the two government boats; Concepción Arenal from Maritime Rescue and the Ibanat natural park patrol boat.  The Maritime Rescue ship rescued the four guests, two crew and the captain and controlled the fire, or so they thought as after some minutes the blaze re-ignited in the yacht as it was under tow, with this suffering the fate of being wrecked.  The cause of the fire is not reported, though it was advised as starting from the engine room.
M/y Da Vinci is a 2002 Astondoa 95 GLX as designed by Nuvolari and produced from 1997 to 2004 in ten units.  The 95 GLX was a replacement to the Astondoa 90 GLX and was replaced by the 102 GLX. 

Flybridge Cruiser Saved From Sinking in Girona Spain

A ten meter flybridge cruiser with four persons onboard was saved from sinking near Santa Margarida, Girona, the Mediterrean side of Spain on the morning of Monday eleven August.  Salvamento Maritimo responded to the emergency with the Salvamar vessel and the Lyra crew, and rescued the four boaters first.  After this the emergency operation was continued to save the boat, with the Lyra lifeguard crew finding the water ingress coming from the exhaust riser and securing it, after which they towed the flybridge cruiser to its mooring in Santa Margarida.

Project: Nerea NY40 Walkaround

Nerea continue to expand its NY40 sport cruiser platform, and present the NY40 Walkaround.  The Walkaround version of the NY40 provides wide, safe passageways from fore to aft, allowing easier movement to the fore deck.  Two steps up lead to the fore, but continue the walk around feature of the side deck, with the sundeck located on the usual NY40 deck level.  The Nerea NY40 offers a lower deck accommodation sleeping four, with a V-shaped dinette or double berth forward, and a twin berth at midships, with a shower head to starboard.  With this new Walkaround version the Nerea NY40 now features seven versions; this including the three propulsion choices; stern drive inboard, outboards, shaft drive, Open or T-Top option, and the Cosmo Platform option for the bathing platform.

One Injured as Boat Explodes in Put-In-Bay, Lake Erie

One man was injured as a sport cruiser of nine meters in length exploded first and then went ablaze in Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island, Lake Erie at about 14:30 of Saturday ninth August.  The injured owner jumped in the water after the explosion, while the boat which drifted ablaze, set another swing moored with no one onboard cuddy cabin boat sportfish cruiser on fire.  The injured boater was air-lifted to a hospital on the main land by Emergency Medical Services.  The fire was fought first by nearby boaters, with the Miller ferry boat also coming to help, as the U.S. Coast Guard and Put-in-Bay Fire came later and extinguished the blaze.  Both boats becamse a a total loss from the fire, with the cause of the explosion not being reported.
The sport cruiser in this fire is a Cruisers 297 Elegante as produced from 1986 to 1987.  The 297 Elegante was a replacement to the 296 Avanti Vee, and was evolved and replaced with some changes into the 2970 Esprit.  The smaller sportfish which went ablaze was a Wellcraft 270 Coastal.

Azimut Yacht Collides Into Submersed Object in Balearic Sea, Spain

A 25 meter Azimut super yacht collided into a semi-submersed object in the Balearic sea, Spain on the evening of Saturday ninth August.  Salvamento Maritimo assisted the super yacht first by towing it, and then by removing the semi-submersed object, which was discovered to be a wooden cable box which stuck to the fin stabilizers located at midships of the hull bottom of the yacht.  After removing the object Salvamento Maritimo towed the yacht to a nearby marina for damage inspection.  The damage from the collision was not advised on the Salvamento Maritimo Facebook page which reported the incident.
The yacht in this accident is an Azimut Magellano 25 Metri as designed by Ken Freivokh and produced since 2020 so far in 26 units.  The Magellano 25 Metri was a replacement to the Azimut Magellano 76.

Sport Cruiser and Fishing Boat Collide Near Viareggio, Italy

A sport cruiser of twelve meters in length with ten persons and a five meter fishing boat with two persons onboard collided just one nautical mile outside of the Viareggio harbour, Central West, Tyrrhenian sea side of Italy on the morning of Saturday ninth August.  The big sport cruiser collided into the starboard side of the outboard powered five meter fishing boat, with the two persons onboard the smaller vessel jumping in the water before the collision.  The Port Captaincy of Viareggio, Guardia Costiera, and Vigili del Fuoco tended to the accident, retrieving the two uninjured persons from the water, and then saving the smaller boat, first by emptying the gas from the fuel tank to avoid the risk of fire and then towing it to Viareggio harbour and lifting it up from the water to safe it from sinking.  The cause of the incident is under investigation, with the bigger cruiser reported to be going up North to Porto Venere.  The big cruiser sustained minor cosmetic damage, while the small fish boat suffering important damage to its starboard side.
The sport cruiser in this collision is a Caliari Yacht Coanda 42 as produced from 1988 to 1992.  Caliari Yachts was founded by yacht designer Paolo Caliari, operating from 1985 till 1992 and producing yachts from ten to 24 meters.  Coanda was the sporty name of Caliari Yachts producing two models, a 54 which arrived in 1985 and this 42.
