Project: Maritimo S50

At the 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, Maritimo announced the two new projects based on the same platform, the M50 we presented you a few months ago and the S50 Sedan. This Maritimo S50 comes as replacement to the S51, a new entry level model to a range of eleven models, three range which today spans up to 23 meters. The S50 continues the down under yacht builder refined, elegant, practical, and luxurious use of space, combined with high-efficiency propulsion and reduced drag hull forms, along with the build quality and blue-water credentials the down-under yacht is known for. The Maritimo S50 Sedan standard accommodation will offer two large cabins including of which is a full beam midships master stateroom with ensuite shower head, and a VIP suite forward. In the S50 everything is planned to be easy from single level floors inside the cabins, with total walkaround access for both cabins. Capacity to sleep up to eight on the S50 is possible if required and optioned accordingly. As any Maritimo safety is paramount with the famous walkaround decks, high sides, and encased, rear facing internal stairs for flybridge access, delivering safe walking both in the marina and at sea. The S50 features Maritimo famous walk-through zone living, with the rear galley a center piece for seamless entertaining from the main Saloon to the upper cockpit, and then all the way to the edge of the expansive swim platform that is virtually at sea level. The S50 larger windows come redesigned with smaller frames and bigger openings, to deliver full engagement to the surroundings, while patented Maritimo hull liners deliver inherent strength in form, and also allow access to the entire beam below decks. In the engine room this means you can access both sides of the twin, straight-six Diesels. The Maritimo S50 is to be standard powered by twin Volvo 800hp engines on line shaft propulsion. The development of the new Maritimo M and S50 began in late 2023, with the designs and specifications shared with loyal owners for input to then further refine the final product offering.

New Model: Sunseeker Ocean 156

Sunseeker present the Ocean 156, the second hull and third model of the more volume focused Ocean line of yachts. Boasting a much larger feeling of space than other yachts of its size and with extremely flexible design options, the Ocean 156 is set to be a phenomenon in every ocean across the globe.  With a completely enclosed upper deck, like the Ocean 182 and single helm station, the Ocean 156 leaves ample space on board for multi-purpose use, thanks to maximised internal volume and gross tonnage, especially in her seamless, extended saloon and upper deck area.  The upper deck area has similarities to a Portuguese deck with more space, allowing usable, social areas for seating, sun pads and spa tub options. Throughout, design layouts are completely customisable enabling owners to personalise to their own style and practical needs. This is made more achievable thanks to minimal intrusions such as fixed furniture as well as single-level flooring throughout the majority of space on board.  Step into the main deck saloon and you are met with a 360˚panoramic vista owed to the full height and vertical glazing surround. With a luxury penthouse apartment feel, the area can be customised with multiple arrangements including an open galley and dining aft with bar area forward for an open plan set up. Patio doors are situated port and starboard to connect the outside with the stunning interior and an impressive vertical, glazed, floating staircase sits centrally but is subtle so as not to draw the eye away from the impressive settings. Another option for those who favour more privacy, with crew on board, is a central galley layout with options to enclose at varying levels, separating guests and crew. A large saloon sofa seat and TV sits aft with bar and dining forward of the galley and counter-level worktops.  The Ocean 156 accommodates a master stateroom option on the main deck to benefit owners from the impressive views and foredeck access outside. On the lower deck, the full beam master aft features ample storage, a vanity desk and connecting en-suite with twin basins. In a standard configuration, the lower accommodation comprises of a forward VIP and two guest cabins with an optional sliding berth cabin accommodate additional guests in comfort. There is also option for crew accommodation forward of the engine room with appliance block and worktop space for self-sufficiency. The lower deck once again has a completely level floor between the master and VIP, something that is rare on a yacht of its size and will benefit those on board in the subtlest of ways.  The Sunseeker Ocean 156 is powered by twin Man 1650hp for top speeds up to 25 knots.

Sport Cruiser Goes Ablaze in Sant Raphael South of France

An unattended sport cruiser of ten meters in length went ablaze as it was berthed on pontoon 6 at Santa Lucia marina, in Frejus a Sant Raphael in the South of France on the morning of Thursday nineteen September.  Marina stuff were quickly in the spot to attend to the fire and tow the sport cruiser outside the marina, to avoid damage to nearby boats, and the marina.  No one was injured in the fire, with the cause of the fire reported to be of electrical nature. Ultimately the sport cruiser was reported destroyed and wrecked by the fire.
The boat in this fire is a second series Airon Marine 345 designed by Paolo Molinari, and produced since 2007.  The second generation Airon 345 differentiates from the original for the extra twin parallel windows in the hull, and a cockpit layout added with a mini-galley wet-bar.  The Airon Marine 345 arrived in 1999 as a replacement to the 334 and is still in production today.

Yacht Goes Ablaze as Onboard Fireworks Catch Fire in Marina del Rey

A classic thirty meter super yacht titled m/y The Admiral with two people onboard went ablaze at Basin A, Marina del Rey, California with the fire reported at 20:33 of Wednesday eighteen September.  After the yacht went ablaze, rounds of fireworks where seen and filmed exploding from the yacht, as Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a fire which was difficult and complicated to contain.  Two hours into the fire fighting at 23:00 hours, the classic yacht started sinking, with The Admiral discharging red-dye diesel into the sea as it fully sank.  Following the fuel discharge, the US Coast Guard, and Patriot Environmental Services and Clean Harbors boomed the yacht wreck for pollution, with  a plan being organized to clean the yachts from its fuel, which have been reported being filled some days before this fire accident.  No one was injured in the fire, as the two persons who were onboard managed to escape.  The cause of how the blaze started is not reported with the one thousand rounds of ammunition of fire-works making this fire much harder to control.
M/y The Admiral is a 1986 Broward 30.5 meters, hull number 199 and originally launched as I. Lorraine. This classic Broward is aluminium build to an inhouse design for both exterior and naval architecture, with interiors by Robin Rose.  Broward was founded in 1948 by Michigan boat technician Frank Denison who purchased Fort Lauderdale Dooley’s Dry Dock while visiting the area on honeymoon. In 1953 Broward launched its first yacht, a sixteen meters custom alloy build John Wells design titled m/y Stormy III with hull number 122.

Two Persons Saved as Jeanneau Runs Aground at Isola Piana

Two Japanese persons and a dog were saved as a ten meter Jeanneau flybridge cruiser ended aground and was taking on water at La Pelosa beach, Isola Piana, to the South West of Sardinia on the afternoon of Tuesday seventeen September.  The Port Captaincy of Porto Torres received the call of assistance who sent the CP 894 boat to the scene, who because of a low water draft and the rough seas of the day deployed a small rib to recover the boaters and the dog.  The boaters were then taken to Stintino who found an ambulance ready to assist them.  The boat was reported to have departed from Cala Finanza and going to Capo Ceraso when for an unknown reason ended beached in La Pelosa.  After the beaching the flybridge cruiser was also taking on water, with the Port Captaincy giving a notice to the ownership to remove the damaged boat and that it is responsible for any environmental damage this has made or might make.
The boat in this accident is a Jeanneau Prestige 36 as designed by Garroni and as produced from 2002 to 2010.  The Jeanneau Prestige 36 was replaced by the Prestige 350.
