New Model: Bimax 28 Alchimia

Just when you thought you have seen it all, here comes Bimax a shipyard from Latina to the South of Rome in Italy, and its new revolution the 28 Alchimia.  So what's new with the Bimax 28 Alchimia is that this walkaround sport cruiser of just over eight meters in length is powered by a single shaft drive inboard engine with what the company calls its Eco Drive System.  The Eco Drive System has a pull propulsion shaft system looking forward and only seven degrees shaft angle.  The result is that with this you do not get the bow high of the traditional shaft drive especially in transition or early planning phases with Bimax claiming a bow rise of only one degrees.  While consumption is only at one litre per nautical mile or twenty litres per hour at fast cruise.

Riviera Beached at Lakes Entrance

 
A Rivera fourteen meter sportfish cruiser was beached on a sand bank following an engine failure, at the entrance of Lakes Entrance in the South East of Australia on the evening of 27th April.  The Riviera was a day later on the 28th towed away and brought to safety by the local Coast Guard and Water Police. The boat suffered minimal damage.  This particular Riviera 48 Enclosed is doing a rather long trip of half Australia from Newcastle to Perth.  This accident will slow the journey a couple of weeks for repairs.
The Riviera in this beaching is a 48 Enclosed, as produced from 1993 to 2004 in 169 units, this also including the Open Bridge version.  The 48 was the first Riviera model offered in an open or enclosed flybridge option up top, and offered two lower deck layouts choices.

New Model: Columbus Sport 50

Columbus Yachts, brand of Palumbo Superyachts, launched and completed the first sea trials of the new 50-metre Sport M/Y K2 at the Ancona shipyard.  Born in 2011 with its award-winning 40-metre models, the Columbus Sport line confirms its success.  Featuring a vertical bow and sleek lines, this project has broken the mold of the time and has become an icon of sportiness and elegance.  The fleet is now enriched with a new 50-metre model which encompasses the distinctive elements of this design and combines new aesthetic features to an engineering development of the hull which in navigation guarantees a high level of comfort even in rough sea conditions. Columbus Sport 50 stems from the naval engineering of Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with Hydro Tec. The external lines and the interior design are penned by Luca Dini.  Characterized by several unprecedented solutions designed at the owner’s request, who is on his third project with Palumbo Superyachts, Columbus 50 Sport  accommodates eleven guests in five comfortable cabins assisted by eleven crew members housed in seven cabins. The aluminium hull and superstructure together with a gross tonnage of 499 are definitely one of the strength points of this vessel that, combined with a maximum draft of 2.2 m, make her a one-of-a-kind yacht on the market capable of sailing in shallow waters.  Powered by two 2600hp MTU engines, Sport 50 reaches a top speed of 21 knots, a cruising speed of seventeen with a long range for transoceanic passages.  Performance analysis at the lowest speeds reported very interesting results, also considering the keel structure, with a consumption of seventy litres per hour at ten knots.  From a technical perspective, another carefully-considered aspect was noise and vibration reduction: during the sea trials just carried out, Columbus 50 Sport achieved extremely low noise levels in the guest cabins. This is particularly remarkable as they were obtained at 85% of maximum engine power, at a speed slightly above 20 knots.  Columbus Sport 50 is scheduled to make her official debut at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Project: Absolute 60 Fly

Absolute approaches the start of boating season creating high expectations for the Generation 2022 new models. A very optimistic opening awaits Absolute thanks to the launch of a brand new range, as well as two exciting new models.  The first revolution will take place with the 60 Fly project a completely new model called and a motor yacht that will redefine the range with new ground-breaking design elements never seen on a Flybridge boat of eighteen meters in size, such as the Owner’s quarter at the bow and the aft cockpit terrace, free from any fixed furniture elements. The 60 Fly by Absolute reveals an overturning of perspectives, an evolution for the range and for the owner, with versatile life on board and liveability of the spaces.  A new perspective is offered by the bow master cabin, thanks to the owner’s quarter concept: a cabin which takes up the full beam of the boat, unprecedented on a 60/70-foot yacht. The cabin is raised from the lower deck, the ceiling is high, and the array of textures and colour choice for the interior design will satisfy even the most refined tastes. The atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxed, dedicated to the owner’s comfort and privacy: the walk-in wardrobe, the vanity with a sea view, and the wide side windows to feel fully immersed in nature complete the ambience.  The exterior lines are now enriched by elegant transparencies, thanks to the glazed balustrades that offer breath-taking views from both the fly and the cockpit: the latter, thought without fixed elements, can be furnished at the owner’s taste for the first time.  From the aft cockpit there are two comfortable staircases, ideal to reach the wide platform to enjoy a terrace just above the sea; the ample dimensions of the platform offer a comfortable entrance to the crew cabin, through the pantograph door concealed in the transom.  On the upper deck, the Fly area offers a second open-air salon totally immersed in the surrounding landscape, whose generous dimensions are just waiting to be lived: al-fresco galley and dining area, lounge space, high-tech helm station are framed by elegant design lines, colour contrasts and refined finishes.  Even the bow area is designed for maximum versatility of use thanks to a comfortable sofa with table, a sunbathing area, and music: social boating and privacy, all in one, day and night.  The Absolute 60 Fly boasts the latest generation technology, featured in modern and ultra-accessorized dashboards, with clear instrumentation always at your fingertips. Both helm stations on the main deck and flybridge have double piloting seats, ergonomic and modern. From the main deck dashboard, a very wide windscreen, with minimized and rounded side support pillars, guarantees an unobstructed view of the horizon. Even on the flybridge, a safe navigation topped with conviviality is ensured, thanks to the sofa and sundeck placed next to the helm, allowing the captain to drive with company. A third mooring station is also available at the stern, which can be integrated in a dedicated cabinet in the cockpit on starboard side, equipped with joystick, bow thruster control and engines ignition panel.  Great care for the furniture as well: on board the Absolute 60 Fly modular furniture can be adapted to the actual use. The areas are dedicated to the social moments with family and friends, to enjoy panoramas in complete freedom: various configurations are available for the owner to choose from, in order to fully enjoy the on-board life as desired. The green attitude of the shipyard proves itself thanks to the opportunity of integrating the solar panels into the hard top to ensure a lower environmental impact. Moored at anchor, the owner can enjoy the silence completely immersed in nature, by using solar energy to operate the essential services on board, without the continuous use of generators. The safety standards fear no competition even with larger models, and the spaces usability is top-notch both for the storage and for maintenance and spaces inspections activities. The Absolute 60 Fly is to be powered by twin Volvo 725hp with IPS pod drive propulsion.  Launching of hull one is planned for June 2021.

Fourteen Rescued from Sinking Sport Cruiser in New Port Harbor

Fourteen persons were saved from a sinking Trojan eleven meter sport cruiser titled m/y Sink or Swim on 14:45 of Sunday eighteen April in New Port Harbor, Orange County.  The fourteen boaters including an 82 year old man were doing a test purchase sea trial when the sport cruiser started to take on water.  The boaters and crew had to put there life vests and jump in the water before the boat sank and where first assisted by a twenty meter size motor yacht, and then by Orange County Sheriff County Patrol.  The Trojan sport cruiser sank in 32 meters of water, with the cause of the sinking being under investigation.
M/Y Sink or Swim is a Trojan 400 Express as produced from 1998 to 2002.  Born as the 370 Express in 1993, becoming the 390 Express with the extended bathing platform in 1995, and then the 400 Express with a larger bathing platform and soft stern redesign.  The 370-390-400 Express was the first Carver Genmar Group era model, who purchased the Trojan name and some molds and tooling in 1992.

New Model: Fiart Cetera 60

Cetera is a new brand founded by long standing Italian boat builder Fiart, who with its first 60 model look to re-invent interior spaces not by little.  Presented as a project in 2019, to a design of Francesco Guida, the Cetera 60 main difference comes from having its three cabins located on the main deck.  The layout of the Cetera 60 is unseen in yachts of this size, even in bigger 24 plus meters size who will have for example only an owners staterooms on the main deck.  The living on the Cetera 60 is located on the upper deck, with an internal stair case leading you to this area, featuring a dining, galley and pilot house area.  A relaxing saloon is located on the forward part of the main deck with excess to the fore-deck dinette.  Some might call it daring, others innovative but the Cetera 60 is something to ponder about, and it will be interesting to see if someone else will follow its solutions in the future.  In the meantime the Cetera 60 has arrived, and its use of spaces is something to talk about since possibly the Versilcraft Mystere of the seventies which had a full beam owners midships cabin in a size of just over fifteen meters.  That went unnoticed for over twenty years.

Classic Yacht Sinking in San Juan

A 1932 wooden build 22 meter Explorer went aground in San Juan, near Stuart Island, on the West side of Prevost Harbour on April 17. The traditional explorer yacht was carrying eight passengers and a dog, when a MayDay was called. An eight meter Lifeproof Patrol Vessel was immediately on the scene rescuing the eight persons and a dog ten minutes after the call. The 22 meter yacht had a gash of about one foot in the lower part of the hull.
Titled Norwester this classic 76 feet explorer yacht was build by Willis J. Read in 1932 to a design of Frank Mudro. This yacht has a colourful history from being commissioned by New York millionaire Charles Gilbert during the Great Depression, to later serving as a Patrol Boat for US Navy during World War II in the forties, to then being owned in the fifties and sixties by John Wayne.  The current owners have owned the yacht for the last three years.
UPDATE: Current owners Rick and Jackie Rutherford have opened the Norwester Foundation to rescue the yacht with $250000 needed to salvage from sinking and $1500000 for repairs.  M/Y Norwester was still adrift as on May 10 in the Salish Sea.  According to reports the keel of the yacht is not intact anymore and rescue operation is now deemed hard if not impossible.  

Project: Overmarine Mangusta Oceano 39

 

Overmarine present the project for a new, revolutionary Mangusta Oceano 39. 39 metres of innovation and expertise, elegance and performance that reinterpret the Mangusta Oceano displacement line in a radically new key. A tri-deck yacht that gives her entire class a new harmonised identity, a yacht that embodies an innovative way of experiencing onboard life, forging a brand-new concept of open spaces and direct contact with the sea thanks to a minimal superstructure and the most extensive use of glass. The uttermost consistency between the yachts' interiors and exteriors creates the effect of the patio of a modern, seaside glass villa. Interior design is minimal and yet warm and cosy, and the foldable terraces can be lowered to provide access to a half circle beach house/garage tailored to the Owner's taste and requirements. Freedom of movement and a constant interaction between all decks are ensured by the aft area, which is a natural extension of the yacht overlooking the sea, the beach area is, indeed, not so much an extensible platform, but a beach house through and through. Minimised bulwarks and glass handrails allow the gaze to freely sweep the horizon, and the ceiling-high sliding glass doors mean that no breath-taking view will ever be missed. An imposing and powerful bow protects the glass wheelhouse and the infinity pool, whose partially see-through bottom lets natural light flood the Owner's stateroom. Another infinity pool can be found on the sundeck, where guests can take in the boundless view and experience that, truly, the limit is only in one's imagination. The exteriors feature deeply sculpted lines. The streamlined profile of the sundeck, in particular, is further emphasised by distinctive and stylish design elements, with sophisticated lighting solutions that reveal the shade of the teak wood covering all external decks and highlight the flawless continuity between indoor and outdoor materials. Every deck has been thought out to enable the Owner to arrange space at his own convenience, thanks to loose furniture and areas that he can easily customise as needed. A true masterpiece, where style and innovation do not go to the detriment of performances, but actually improve them. The dual propulsion available on this yacht can take her to two different maximum speeds; sixteen knots in the displacement version; 21 knots in the fast displacement one. Both models stand out for their impressive noiselessness, which further increases onboard comfort.

New Model: Pardo Endurance 60

The new Pardo Endurance 60 is finally in the water. After the launch in Marina di Ravenna and the initial miles at sea while performing a thorough twelve hour navigation test, the new Pardo model and flagship has officially joined the fleet. The hull lines, by Nauta offers seamless continuity between interiors and exteriors, and an efficiency to live outdoor and indoor spaces in style and comfort, and in a safe and eco-sustainable way.  The Pardo Endurance 60 offers three double guest cabins with an option for the forward VIP suite to be offered in a movement which splits the double berth to two singles.  Crew accommodation is for two berths aft.  The Pardo Endurance 60 is standard powered by twin Volvo 550hp, and or optional 600hp engines.
