Tomco Marine Group owner and builder of the American Tugs explorer cruiser and yacht line presents its latest project, the 395 set to launch officially in the early part of 2011. The builder from La Conner, Washington USA says the 395 will feature a narrow-body hull with an elongated forward trunk cabin, and a true twin cabin interior arrangement with the companies signature full size en-suite head & shower off the owners cabin. The 395 will have an over all length of 42 feet plus, and be powered by a single 380hp engine by Cummins or Volvo. Construction is for a single skin solid hull laminate for a weight of just short of 11,000 kg or the more US term of 24,000 lbs. Improve-it = American Tugs 365
American Tugs update its 34 for the 2011 model year, not only by changing designation which now considers length over all and becoming the 365, but by introducing new elements enriching this explorer cruiser value. The designation change also affects other models with the 41 becoming the 435, and 49 the 525. Now arrived to 140 hulls the 34 model has been a huge success in the ten years story of Tomco American Tug story. The face lift for the 2011 badged 365 includes a pair of single panoramic window in the salon, galley for open views without vertical mullions. Several upgraded standard features are also incorporated into the American Tug 365. Designed by Lynn Senour the American Tug 365 sleeps four in two cabins, plus an extra double berth coming from the convertible saloon. Power is a standard 330hp, or optional Volvo 370hp, and Cummins 380hp. With the optional Volvo engine speed is an 18 knots max. www.americantugs.com
Engine: Cat C18 ACERT 930hp
Building off years of success with the Cat C18 ACERT marine engine, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is announcing an additional engine rating for the in line engine to expand the power range available for global customers. The 930mhp (685bkW) rating for the C18 ACERT propulsion engine provides best in class torque to maximize acceleration and speed. Along with the 1015 and 1150 mhp ratings currently offered on the C18 ACERT engine, the additional rating will meet current industry demand for high power and is one of several marine engines Caterpillar will bring to the market over the next few years. Backed by more than 80 years of engineering excellence, the C18 ACERT propulsion engine is an in line 6, four-stroke, 18.1-liter diesel engine, which is electronically governed, turbo-charged and after-cooled. With a smaller, narrower package, customers will notice the improved ease of service with more room between engines compared to the existing engine ratings. The smaller footprint will also open additional opportunities where hull space prevented the installation of a C18 ACERT engine. A crucial feature of the new engine rating is the best in class power and torque, which results in faster speeds, better acceleration, and overall class leading cruising performance. Another important benefit is an improvement in overall fuel economy compared to other engine packages. In fact, compared to the existing C18 ACERT ratings like the 1150 mhp engine, the new 930 mhp rating will increase fuel efficiency upwards of 25%, which will be well received by customers. Additionally, the C18 ACERT engine will continue to be compliant with all major global emissions regulations, including IMO, EPA Tier 2, and EU 94/25/EC Recreational Craft Directive. Along with the improvements to performance, power and torque, all Cat C18 ACERT marine engines come with an excellent standard warranty, available for up to ten years after initial purchase of the engine. In addition to the standard five year warranty, Extended Service Coverage can be purchased to extend the overall protection of the engine. September 8, 2010
New Model: Windy 40 Maestro
Windy presents its latest new model the 40 Maestro set to fill a void left between the recently introduced 44 Chinook, and the long standing 37 Grand Mistral. Born as a 39 Sport Cruiser project in end of 2009, the 40 Maestro is a high performance machine with an interior offering two double cabins, a single shower head, saloon, and galley. An owners cabin is to fore, while a guest twin is to mid ship. interior finishing follows recent trends of Matt lacquered oak wood, with a variety of choice for the upholstery. The exterior is less spacious and extravagant to recent similar boats, though it still remains comfortable offering a C-shaped settee to starboard, small wet bar opposite, two person co-pilots seat, and helm station. As expected the 40 Maestro continues the transition of Windy to lighter and environment friendly vacuum resin infusion method of construction this delivering a light displacement of just 7.5 tons. Power will be two engine and propulsion choices, starting from a standard twin 300hp with stern drives up to an optional of 370hp. You also can get an optional more manoeuvring friendly IPS400 twin Volvo 300hp choice. With the big twin 370hp engine choice the 40 Maestro reaches a fast 44 knots top speed, and a 34 knots cruise. Project: Princess 42
Princess presents the second series of its 42 what has become a very high selling model for the British builder in this size. The 42 in its first series generation has had a very rare for today's standards long run of seven years production. The major changes for the Princess 42 mark two are outside with the British design team adopting a lean and dynamic profile with wrap around windscreen and larger, sleeker windows and port lights. Think of the looks of the Princess 50, 54 or 62 here and you have it very similar in a smaller package. On the comfort side the changes are more subtle with Princess adding minimal space here and there to the two cabin two head plan. A visible change will be the teak table on the flybridge dinette, and what also looks a lightly larger second guest shower head below. Princess seem also to have introduced an option for a blue colored hull for the 42, which till I know and saw was not available on the now being replaced version. Power for the Princess 42 second generation is standard Volvo 370hp good for 29 knots max, and optional 435hp delivering an extra three knots of top end speed. www.princessyachts.com

Project: Ferretti 720
Ferretti Yachts seem to have made 2010 as one of abundant changes in its range of flybridge cruisers and yachts, and here the renowned Italian brand presents its latest fourth project of the year with the 720. Designed by Zuccon for its super structure with hull by Ferretti Advanced Yacht Technology the 720 is expected to launch in Spring 2011 and is a project of 22 metres in length and six of beam motor yacht. According to Ferretti brand manager Alessandro Tirelli it captures a lot of the looks and concept from this Spring launched 800 model. While Zuccon seems to have taken some ideas of the 800 like the lines of the coach roof I still see the 720 as a more aggressive machine and in this rendering it also shows the return to the Adriatic Sea based builder to low profiled upper structures as seen on past models. A design novelty seems also a stepped shear line which integrates with the main deck window at midships. I still remember when speaking to Italian yacht enthusiasts in the eighties, early nineties would tell me that any yacht that is not a convertible and has a reverse shear line is old or ugly. Whatever they said Zuccon being the master that he is in this department manages to make it look trendy and may be a new school will be returned here, although to be fair he already experimented with this on the little bit British looking 690 and 840 Altura models. The interior of the 720 continues Ferretti move with light colored woods as grey oak, joined with a brown-grey lacquer for all the details. A spit level saloon forms the living part separating the welcoming relaxing area with the dining, enclosed galley and helm to fore. The lower deck is a four owners and guest cabins affair. Owners stateroom is located to mid ship, VIP suite to bow, and two twin guest cabins in between. The crew lobby will be located aft with two cabins, laundry room, and a direct access to the engine room. Power will be from twin MTU 1381hp engines. www.ferretti-yachts.com

Powerboat GPS - Bacoli Endurance Race

Going into the weekend very few would have imagined that the title would have been decided two rounds and a Grand Prix in advance. That is what happened in today's Round eight when both the no limit Evolution, and the open cockpit Supersport class titles where taken out for grabs. To my knowledge this is the first time it happens for Evolution, and the second in Supersport when in 2008 the 41 feet Chaudron powered by Mercury engines 43 Conam Yachts dominated the championship from start to finish winning all races of the series.
Evolution
A second place was enough for Pennesi and Montavoci and the 60 Metamarine Foresti & Sguardi to secure the 2010 World Championship two rounds, and a Grand Prix in advance. It's been a long one coming for Pennesi to take the Evolution title since in 2004 he took the Supersport top spot on an Offcourse Fabio Buzzi 41 feet designed diesel powered boat, and after that from 2005 competing in the bigger class. This triumph is also unique for having Diesel power the only boat in this class today, home built Variante drive, a hull also made in house, and last for the reliability and good results. With the 60 Metamarine always finishing a round, taking three wins, and the worst position being a podium of third. In Bacoli the 60 Metamarine second place with a deficit of less to seven seconds was also characterized by the fastest lap of the day of 3:00,83. A rewarding first place for the home Neapolitan team 88 SNAV-Kiton which made the local fans surely happy, and showed the challenging never give up skills of the 2009 champions. Another third, following a similar result in Poltu Quatu for 55 Ukrainian Spirit who seeing the lap times are still about ten seconds late against the top tier challengers. A retirement on the seventh lap for the USA Northern Europe boat with the longest title 77 Lucas Oil Scandinavian Challenge aka LOCOS. After showing good composure and an improvement in each Grand Prix the 66 Cranefields had to retire at the start lap. Did no start for the fast 33 Furnibo, cause of a broken crash box on the Saturday race.
Supersport
Two second places where enough for the Neapolitan 38 Baia Attolini and the 38 feet Donzi to secure the 2010 Supersport Class title two rounds and a Grand Prix in advance. It was three seasons of hard work and considering how this team was overcame by 44 Conam Yachts in 2008, just lost by a couple points to 43 Seagull Chaudron in 2009, it was nice to see them on the top of the class in a hard fought season with many close challengers. Again reliability was a very important factor for the Mercury racing, Arneson surface drives 38 feet Donzi hull, which I remind was also a 2006 Evolution champion with OSG when the speed limit was at 90 mph as today is in the Supersport class. A first place the second of the season for the open cockpit Fountain of 81 Karelpiu which make the Bacoli citizens very proud being the RG87 Team from the area. 81 Karelpiu did also the fastest lap of the day for the class with a 3:28,06. Another third, after the same result on Saturday for the Yanmar diesel powered forty feet Albatro powered 06 Jolly Drive. The Bacoli weekend was a good one for the only diesel powered boat in Supersport. A retirement for 43 Seagull Chaudron which follows its first win of the season with a disappointing stop on the first lap, and with it the chances of challenging for the 2010 World title in the last two rounds. The 22 Big Sergio did not start today race, after developing some problems on Saturday which the Team of Al&Al did not manage to fix.
