New Model: Azimut 55 S

A new Azimut is always a lot of talking from the professionals to passionate people alike.  Rightly so as this Italian builder has in the last two decades pushed the border of yachting design to new heights, and its constant research and development is something to admire.  The new 55 S started to make it to the news more or less three months ago, when a rendering was shown on the official web site along with the novelties coming with it; triple pod propulsion, new transom pivoting system, integrated garage, and carbon fiber reinforcements.  Obviously my biggest surprise was to see Azimut going the Volvo IPS pod propulsion route in the 55 S.  Yes the Azimut-Benetti Group has flirted with pods on its models, officially on the 43 S in 2005, and Atlantis 50x4, plus testing a 50 and 55 in Volvo's base in Sweden, and the 62 S was also the bench mark for the ZF Zeus pod much acclaimed large 4000 unit.  But after this there always seemed to be a pause in launching models with pods. Still I am as at today surprised by this choice in the new Azimut 55S.  But what is a fact is that the triple pods set up has obviously made extra space available to interior designer Carlo Galeazzi who presents a three double cabins layout; with a full beam midships owners stateroom which would not look out of place even in a sport yacht ten feet larger.  The living of the 55 S is on the main deck with a galley to starboard, and a C-shaped settee which join up with the aft cockpit settee when patio door is open.   There is also a choice here to port side for a unit or a small lounger.  Back to the past is the single person crew cabin located to fore, and also giving sound insulation from wave splash to the forward VIP suite.  Other interesting details in the 55 S; are the fore deck settee, transformation of the aft deck to a large sun pad, and how the bathing platform area feels like that of much bigger yacht.  In the technical department Azimut again with the 55 S go to carbon fiber reinforcements; also used in the latest 64 and 60 of the Flybridge series, although to what extent this is done is not officially communicated.  Needless to say at 22 tons loaded for seventeen meters is a very low displacement compared to similar sized vessels.  So three to four tons are definitely saved.  The three Volvo 435hp with IPS give a 36 knots max speed, and 31 of cruise.

INBUILD ~ Galeon 430 HTC Part 4 of 5

Is it not an important date when the engines are being installed in any boat.  If the helm is the brain, the engines are definitely the all important heart.  That heart which makes the boat move over water and in cases reach all those important speeds. This is that moment for the Galeon 430 HTC, when the engines where put in there dedicated compartment located to midships.  In this picture one can also see other details of the 430 HTC taking shape, as the extended hard top which covers or opens up to make the sun worshippers of the modular aft deck make best use of the transformed sun pad.  Other details we can see is the helm located to starboard, and the raised split level which to port side will feature the galley here looking similar to the layout of the 420 Fly.   Returning to the engines the 430 HTC will be powered with a large engine list starting from twin 220 up to 435hp.  There will also be three choices of propulsion from reliable shafts, modern IPS pod, and efficient stern drives.  I can tell you that hull one of the 430 HTC will feature line shafts with semi tunnels.  What will customers prefare for this model after a couple years in production run?  Guess that only time can reply this question.

Project: Baia 63 Onda

A new model from Baia of Naples is always something of big news, first because of the longevity of its models; the 48 Flash still in production and sold over one hundred units has been built since 1998 for example, and second is because the styling statements this yard has made and which have always been copied.  Again the hard top design of the 48 Flash has been copied by many famous names including one known British builder.  The new Baia 63 Onda follows styling cues from the much praised 70 Italia and the One Hundred flagship models.  It is without a doubt a two meters shorter mini Italia on the looks department.  Its accommodation plan is based on a very modular main deck living area, with an interesting sunbridge offering two sunpads on top of the aft extended hardtop part.  Down below is choice for two accommodation layouts; three cabins, or two rooms with an L-shaped saloon settee to port side taking place of guest cabin three.  A seperate galley with door, a very much liked Italian feature is located to starboard. Interestingly Baia follows the builders who opt for an owners room to fore, with the queen size berth looking to port side.  Crew accomodation is for two bunk berths to starboard.  Power is a standard twin MAN 1400, or optional 1622hp Cat, or 1650 again from the german engine maker.  Propulsion continues Baia long time support of Arneson surface drives, its first official user back in the eighties with the B50 Force One, also for this new 63 Onda.

New Model: Delta 26 Open

Designed by Ted Mannerfelt the Delta 26 Open is the entry level model of this Swedish builder fleet.  Mannerfelt and Delta present a hybrid of daycrusier and walkaround, without forgetting generous space for socializing, swimming and sunbathing. The combination of walk-around and elevated foredeck creates a comfortable forward cabin with big double bed and a separate head. The decor of the 26 Open is bright and has attention to details along the use of traditional materials such as teak and hand-polished stainless steel.  Smart details come in the form of the aft bench that easily turn into a sun pad, and a galley located into the driver's couch is an example of smart design details. Delta 26 Open is designed with the most modern vacuum technology with vinylester resin and Divinycell, Diab Core Infusion Technology and carbon fiber reinforced floors. Power is a single Volvo 220hp diesel, or 320 petrol gas choice.  In combination with the hull air lubrication cross step, this makes the26 Open offer low fuel consumption and a max speed of 38 knots with the 220hp Diesel engine choice.

Project: Dale D34

Dale from UK presents this very interesting project of the D34, which will also be featured in two other variants Nelson, and Classic to be shown here at a later stage.  The D34 is the most traditional looking of the trio in the looks department, with Down East influence captivated by a certain British line to it.  Hull shape will be a planning type, with the British building emphasising that it will bring its much 23 feet model experience and praise in this size.  Accommodation will offer a convertible berth to fore, seperate shower head, and galley.  The D34 will also be offered in an option of an enclosed, or open main deck pilot house choice.  Power is a single from 150 to 370hp, or twin 150 up to 260hp with max speed estimates with bigger engine choice being of 35 knots.

Facebook

Finally PowerYacht made it into the largest World wide Social Network with its own Facebook fan page.  A bit late some may rightly say.  But better late then never.  When founding PowerYacht in 2007, I considered a lot the Facebook fan page environment, and after some thinking I decided not to do it at the time.  Come 2012 and a lot has changed, and as in 21 June the date of the Summer solstice PowerYacht joined Facebook.
With a trend starting from the US builders, Facebook has seen a big influx of boat brands in the last year, which use the social network in a blog kind of way.  Yes they inform clients and fans alike of the brand news, but also showcasing some boats under built, and changes made to some models.  One of my recent Improve-it article involving a Tiara model actually came from a visit to their social page.
PowerYacht Facebook page, along our Youtube will work as an influx to the main blog domain, and while not all articles will be included, accept some surprises to come on the social network page.
So if you like PowerYachtBlog feel free to go and click Like onto PowerYachtBlog Facebook page.
