Super Sport Yacht Burns and Sinks in Siniscola Sardinia

A Maori 24 meter super sport yacht went ablaze and later at around 2045 hours of Thursday 21 October sank near Capo Comino province of Siniscula to the East of the Sardinia island.  The 24 meter super sport yacht with four persons onboard was on a trip from Olbia to Arbatax when at around 1900 hours it launched the May-Day for an onboard fire.  The call was received from the Olbia station who immediately launched a patrol boat from the Caletta Siniscula marina for assistance.  When arriving on the scene the patrol boat found the yacht in flames with the four crew already in safety on a life raft.  After taking the crew to safety the patrol boat returned to the scene with four fighting men in order to control the fire, but found the yacht ablaze and in the process of sinking.  The morning after of the accident the Olbia Coast Guard returned to the scene to asses pollution, and program the recovery of the yacht from the sea bottom.
The super sport yacht in this fire is M/Y Mama G, hull number one of the Maori 80ft delivered in August 2021 and powered by twin MTU 2000hp with JDM surface drive propellers able to reach a top speed of fifty knots.  Designed by Marco Ciampa the Maori 80 was a further development of the 78 model launched in 2013.  Maori is a young company started up in 2007 first with a 50ft model, and later advancing to smaller cruisers and bigger sport yachts, with this 80ft being the current largest build to date. This particular Maiori 80ft was World premiered at the Cannes 2021 boat show.
