Project: Jeanneau 38 Prestige S

Whilst it will only be launched officially at the beginning of 2008, Jeanneau have unveiled the unpublished designs for the new Prestige 38 S. Although announced as far back as September 2007, no information had been made available about the new Prestige, which slots in between the Prestige 34 S and the completely new Prestige 42 S. The real novelty comes from the dual cockpit on board, a feature up until now reserved for open models over 40 feet long. The first cockpit, structured around a table, is traditionally located forward beneath the sport top, while the second, the real innovation on this boat, is located on the after deck, and can be converted to a sun pad or a comfortable settee around a second table. Another decided advantage for an open of under 40 feet is the tender garage, hidden beneath the cockpit. Fitted with a galley and extended by a huge bathing platform, the Sport Top with it's electric roof dully open becomes a particular outside/inside space. In particular, information on the interior layout reveals 2 cabins, a very large saloon and a spacious dressing room. Designed by the Italian office of Garroni Designers, the Prestige 38 S benefits from a hull developed by the well-known American designer, Michael Peters, who has already designed the hulls of the Prestige 42 and the recent Prestige 42 S for Jeanneau. The twin engines are the new Cummins QSD 4.2-320HP with stern-drive transmission. The yard is actively working on the launch of this Prestige 38 S, for which the stakes are high, since of course its arrival completes a 30 to 50 feet range of new Prestige Fly and Open power boats.

Class 1 - Victory 77 wins in Doha

Victory 77 took a giant step towards the coveted Class 1 world title after producing a championship winning performance to take their fourth win of the season in today’s Qatar Grand Prix, round 6 of the WPPA Class1 World Powerboat Championship, and now lead the title race by 22 points, with the final two rounds in Dubai in two weeks. Qatar 96 keep the title hopes alive, bringing home a second place, taking their sixth podium of the season, with Negotiator 50 producing the best performance of the year to grab it's first podium, taking a well deserved third place. But for the defending World Champions, Spirit of Norway, who started today’s race from pole position, there was bitter disappointment, retiring on lap 15 with a broken engine, and their title aspirations in tatters and the hopes of a sixth world title now beyond their reach.
The race was all but decided on the opening lap, with Victory 77 producing a spectacular lap to move from fourth place on the start line to lead at the end of lap one, with Spirit of Norway second, followed by Qatar 96 and Negotiator. With the three title rivals holding station and opening up a lead, Negotiator came under increasing pressure from a hard charging Jotun, who grabbed fourth place on lap four, but Negotiator responded immediately to regain the position a lap later and two laps later a technical problem ended Jotun’s race. Negotiator then held of a challenge from Qatar 95, who in turn had Victory 7, who dropped from second at the start to eighth after hooking the boat at the first corner, breathing down their necks. Over the course of the next six laps the leading trio exchanged long laps. Qatar 96 went first, followed by Spirit of Norway and the race leaders. By lap 13, with both long laps taken, Spirit of Norway had reduced the gap to Victory 77 from 12 to four seconds, but two laps later the defending champions were out, a broken engine destroying their title bid. Now in an unassailable position Victory 77 were able to cruise home and take the chequered flag and the win, with Qatar 96 crossing the line over a minute behind them. For Chris Parsonage and Bard Eker, the first podium of the year for Negotiator was a rich reward for the team. Qatar 95 were able to stave of the persistent challenge of Victory 7, with Spirit of Norway 20 taking their third top six finish of the season with Foresti & Suardi finishing in the points in Seventh, with SeveneleveN retiring early in the race. Class 1 now heads to Dubai for the Mina Seyahi Grand Prix on Saturday, 1 December, the first of two races in a week. The title race is now between two – Victory 77 and Qatar 96.

The project of the new Couach 5000 Fly represents the biggest Yacht to be ever built by the prestigious French builder. With a lot of important ideas which will capture exclusive clients in this very competitive market segment, Couach is promising an innovative Super Yacht which stands out for it's 30 knots top speed performance, something very rare in a 50 metre Motor Yacht but of most importance this performance does not effect the range with a capability of Trans-Atlantis crossing in 10 days. Constructed in strong Kevlar resins the new 5000 Fly as all Couach Yachts is a fully custom project. Other important design notes for the new French builder flagship are the superior private upper deck arrangement and the garage which when opened becomes a really live beach front. Class 1 - Doha Qatar Preview

Home team Qatar 96 second in the charts will try to win the all important home GP

With three races remaining in the 2007 WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, the race for the title is reaching fever pitch. Fuelled by an intense rivalry, the sports three heavyweights, Victory 77, Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway 10, remain locked in an unforgiving three-way battle for championship honours, with no quarter asked and none given. The fast and flowing circuit around Palm Tree Island on Doha Bay has seen some spectacular racing action and dramatic incidents in recent years, and this year’s Qatar Grand Prix, round 6 of the WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, could well prove pivotal in the outcome of title race. Victory 77 led the championship standings from round one in Athens, and with the luxury of an 18 points advantage, hold the whip-hand in the title race, and although they would clearly like to try and wrap things up sooner than later, with points in hand do not need to take risks or push for the race win in Doha. But they are being stalked with a ferocious intent by Qatar 96 and the defending World Champions in Spirit of Norway, both outfits posting notice last time out at the Egyptian Grand Prix in Porto Marina, that neither is in any mood to concede the title without a monumental fight, and both finishing ahead of the current leaders after a memorable race – Spirit grabbing their second win of the season, with Qatar 96 second and Victory 77, third. The title battle is intriguing – Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway must win - at least finish ahead of Victory 77 in Doha and in the remaining races – but that still may not be enough, so will be looking to team-mates, Qatar 95 or in Spirit of Norway’s case, the likes of Jotun and Negotiator, to join the fight for podium places and points and shut out the leaders, whilst Victory 77 will look to their team-mates in Victory 7 to get ahead of or between them and their championship rivals. After impressive performances in Egypt, where both challenged strongly for podium finishes before technical problems ended their hopes, Qatar 95 and Jotun – both running the Mercury V8s - look likely challengers to cause the top three problems, and will be hoping for trouble free runs to give themselves the chance to capitalise on their pace. Negotiator could also be up there in the mix, now that they have found reliability with the Sterling V8s and will be looking to improve on their fourth place in Egypt. The first action takes place today, with the first official practice session, giving the teams the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the revised course around Palm Tree Island on Doha Bay. Second practice on Friday is followed by the fifth Edox Pole Position of the season in the afternoon, with the final practice session and the 20 lap, 92.88Nm Qatar Grand Prix on Saturday, 17 November. Of the leading protagonists, Spirit of Norway has by far the best record in Doha winning five times since the first Qatar Grand Prix was held in 2002. Victory 77 grabbed their only win here in 2005 and last year the Qatar Camp took their first win on home waters, with Qatar 95 stealing the headlines from Qatar 96 – but this weekend it just might be their turn to take the race win.

Project: Rodman 44 Muse

The new Rodman Muse 44 is based on two principles, powerful performance and elegant modern lines. The new Rodman is optimized for the best use of space and designer Fulvio De Simoni did the best in providing a superior spacious thirteen metre flybridge cruiser with an incredibly spacious 3 double cabin accommodation. This incredible interior space is the result of the use of Volvo's innovative IPS propulsion, which the new 44 Muse can be credited as being one of the very first few flybridge cruisers build and projected around this system. Apart from the extra accommodation the new IPS will give the new Rodman a superior performance and economy, which should make it as the top choice for those looking for a medium to large flybridge cruiser.

New Model: Sarnico 65 Special

The flagship of the range, forerunner of the coupè fleet, is proposed in a new “Special” version. The interiors of the boat have been completely reshaped in order to offer an even more comfortable and pleasant owner suite. The owner’s cabin covers a wider surface, in correspondence to the centre of the hull, where the boat is more steady. The open space is made even larger by the new side window, that changes the look of the sides and allows a spectacular panoramic view. The furniture is built in order to increase the wardrobe volume. The suite is completed by a true bathroom, provided with a broad shower box. Of course the other characteristics and the whole quality remain unchanged. The guests may comfortably stay in the VIP bow cabin or in the stern one, with independent access from the cockpit and completely isolated from the saloon, for a better privacy. Both cabins have direct access to their bathroom, each one provided with shower box. The salon maintains enough space to host a living space with a table and a fully equipped galley. The crew cabin and a hallway with all household appliances complete the under deck layout. Key elements of the success remain the sharp line and the hard top, whose frontal opening, starting from the upper side of the windshield, enables to air the cockpit and fully appreciate the speed sensation from the piloting position. Although sporty, the Sarnico 65 always shows a clear elegance which makes it standing out from the other boats of similar typology. Despite the dimensions and the displacement, it reaches 39 knots with two 1360hp engines.

Projects: Blu Martin S.T. 62, Blu Martin S.T. 55

Following Sun Top 13.50 success, Blu Martin introduces its new flagship project, the Blu Martin S.T. 62'. This 18.70 metres sports yacht comes to light by developing the already successful concepts so greatly appreciated like practicality, extremely high quality materials and important standard equipment which are the shipyard's unique characteristics. The project revolves around the idea of creating a yacht that makes life on board simple with the rear closing and total opening of the cockpit, creating a unique space revolving around the dinette, at the same time offering an area of full weather protection. On her exterior, the Family feel has been maintained, though not renouncing to innovative solutions such as the opening Lexan covering and large piezoelectric liquid crystal obscuring glazed back. Blumartin presents the new Blu Martin S.T. 55', created to continue its project and to enable its devoted customers to grow together with the shipyard. Following the success of the Sun Top 13.50 and Sea Top 13.90 models there was need for a bigger model to enable the more demanding customers to plough the sea with a bigger more prestigious yacht. Developing the winning concepts which has enabled the Blumartin brand to make a reputation for itself in so little time and to be appreciated in every port, we have created the new Blu Martin S.T. 55', a sport yacht standing in between the big S.T. 62 and Sea Top 1390. The Blu Martin S.T. 55' brings together the stylistic experiences and solutions of the previous models: so here is the distinct division between the sleeping area and the living area. Below, the large cabins with two bathrooms and a nice galley, outside the cockpit living area, with a large leather sofa, a comfortable table and an equipped cupboard, enclosed by a back glass wall which shelters completely from the atmospheric elements and enables you to enjoy the ship in every season and in every weather condition. A large and safe side passage enables the guests to enjoy the entire 16 metres length of the ship easily, moving safely from the large stern sundeck to the comfortable bow cushions. Finally a nice garage contains a tender of 2,80 mts with rigid keel. The standard interior layout, contains a forward VIP double cabin, with direct access to the bathroom, a guest cabin with two single beds which can be turned into a king size bed and a full beam owner's cabin, midships with own private bathroom. Standard engine is the new Volvo IPS800 or as an optional, shaft driven engines Volvo Penta 670hp or Caterpillar 715hp.

Aicon reports revenue increase

The Board of Directors of Aicon, an Italian Group based in Messina active in the designing, building and selling of luxury motoryachts and megayachts, has approved the quarterly financial statements as of August 31, 2007. Consolidated net revenues for the fourth quarter of FY 2006/2007 amounted to €34.4 million, which is an increase of 56.4% compared to approximately 22.0 million in the fourth quarter of FY 2005/2006. The improvement, in line with budgeted results, is attributable to the entry into full operation of the production of models already introduced on the market, as well as to the valorization of work in progress related to boats introduced on the market during the current financial year, such as Aicon 75 Fly, or to be introduced on the market in the coming months, such as 82 Open and 110 Navetta. The net result was approximately 4.1 million, equal to 11.8% of revenues.

Aicon Presents Four year business plan

Aicon Group, an Italian Group based in Messina active in the designing, building and selling of luxury motoryachts and megayachts, today presented the group’s four-year business plan to stakeholders. The market forecasts for the four-year period 2007/2008 – 2010/2011 point to strong growth in the luxury yacht segment, driven above all by the major producers whose growth is ahead of the market average. The sector is highly fragmented and the industry is currently undergoing a process of concentration. In this scenario, Aicon aims to consolidate its position in both domestic and international markets, with the goal of becoming a leading global player in the industry within the next four years. The business plan envisages significant investment in order to extend the range of vessels under the Aicon and Morgan brands, in addition to launching two new projects with new brands for the production of “High Performance Yachts” and “Long Range Maxi Yachts”, offering customers an innovative yachting experience. In the four years covered by the plan the Aicon group expects to launch a total of 22 new models and to expand its production areas from the existing 120,000 to 300,000 square meters, including 140,000 square meters indoor area. Taking into account outsourced activities, the workforce is due to increase from approximately 1,250 in the current financial year to around 3,000 in the last year of the plan. The Aicon group’s margins are among the highest in the luxury market sector at international level. The return on average capital employed at the end of the plan is expected to be approximately 49%. Investment over the period as a whole is forecast to total around €198 million. The group expects to make limited recourse to financial leverage and therefore forecasts net debt of approximately €28 million at the end of the period covered by the plan, amounting to 17.5%. Investment will focus on increasing production capacity and boosting R&D, after-sales services and international marketing, with the opening of three branch offices in London, New York and Shanghai.

Gruppo Baglietto is Founded

“Gruppo Baglietto” is the industrial shipbuilding centre for pleasure crafts of Camuzzi Spa, the multinational company founded in Milan in 1929. The nautical centre was established in 2004 through the acquisition by Camuzzi of the Baglietto shipyard (a long-established yachting company with operative headquarters in Varazze and La Spezia) and the Pisa shipyard in 2005. Camuzzi’s acquisition is significant for the industry, as witnessed by the strong relaunch of the two long-established and internationally renowned Italian shipbuilding brands. The decision to use the Baglietto name (Gruppo Baglietto) for the Camuzzi centre was taken to capitalize on the enormous reputation that the brand has built up over the course of its 150 years in business. Today the mission of the group is to optimize the two portfolio brands and develop them as leading players on the global market with the help of a vision that has long been supported by the values of Italian style. The two brands will however continue to clearly maintain their distinctive identities and their specific qualities. For the Baglietto brand this means technology, performance, sporty design and custom-made production, whilst the Pisa shipyards are known for their class, sophistication, quality, comfort and elegance. The “Gruppo Baglietto” also includes: the Gruppo Baglietto Montecarlo (specialized in chartering) and the Gruppo Baglietto Tunisia (that houses the two Tunisian production plants specializing in composite materials).

Ferretti Group 2006/007 Results

With 50 yachts on show, of which 28 in the sea and 22 on land, Ferretti Group stands out as the undisputed world leader of the luxury yacht segment at the Genoa Boat Show. The Group stand is the largest and most impressive exhibiting space both at the entire show and in the Group’s history. A total surface area of over 7,000 square metres (4,000 m² on land and approx. 3,000 m² in the sea) hosts 50 yachts, of which 6 world previews and 8 Italian previews. A staff of almost 500 is on hand to attend to an estimated total of several tens of thousands of visitors, making it the perfect backdrop for Ferretti Group to announce its outstanding results for the nautical year running from 1st September 2006 to 31st August 2007. The Group’s Production Value reached 933 million Euros, marking a +21% rise compared with the 770 million registered last year. The Orders placed in 2006-2007 reached 1 billion Euros, and the Order Portfolio rose to cover approximately 70% of annual production. The EBITDA was approximately 158 million Euros, a rise of approximately +34% on last year’s 118 million. This brings the overall profit of Ferretti Group to over 17% on production value, up almost 1.5 percentage points on last year. The number of employees rose significantly too, from 2,700 in 2005-2006 to over 3,000 in 2006-2007, an increase of +11% year on year. Ferretti Group also continued its drive for innovation, with investments of over 50 million Euros made last season in technological innovation, new product development and increasing production capacity. Ferretti Group plans to launch over 50 new models over the next 3 years. The first few months of the 2007-2008 nautical year have made an excellent start, too, and will be able to count on the contribution of the 6 international previews presented by the 9 brands during the Genoa Boat Show. As far as export is concerned, Ferretti Group continues to implement the internationalisation strategy set up a few years ago. The incidence of the foreign sales of the Italian brands rose by almost 10 points, touching on 70% in 2006-2007, to which the foreign sales of the Group abroad are added. This increase is mainly due to greater sales on the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe markets, and to sales in Central America, Latin America and the Far East.

Individually cut out of high quality fabric selected from the most exclusive Vitale Barberis Canonico materials, the outfits feature sophisticated details typical of the most prestigious made to measure garments, like hand finished collars, lapels, hems, sleeves and pockets. The shirts embody the same design and tailoring skills. Made of the best Italian Canclini blue striped poplin, they feature a wealth of prestigious details - mother of pearl buttons, double hand sewing and a large number of stitches per centimetre. Itama Communications Strategy

Itama opens the nautical year with an exciting new communications strategy that has been both developed and restyled. This packed and carefully structured plan includes a series of important innovations for a brand that has always been an international benchmark for Italian style in the open yacht sector. Perfected together with the integrated communications agency AdmCom, this highly organised process of creative exploration and design has led to a number of decisive developments regarding, first and foremost, the Itama coordinated image. This has involved elegantly restyling the visual components, using the classic company colours, but emphasizing the white over the blue. This change continues the company’s insistence on the typically Itama qualities of elegance, sobriety and design purity, combined with a greater emphasis on the character of a product that offers a yachting experience that is direct, airy and highly intense. The leitmotiv in this new advertising campaign focuses on the universe of the senses and is based on the characteristic element of Itama’s history, philosophy and added values, i.e. its status as the perfect open yacht. “The more you feel, the more you live”, this is the claim that encapsulates the importance of the perceptions sought by those in search of an immediate, filter-free relationship with the sea, the waves, the sun and the wind.

Class 1 - Spirit of Norway win in Egypt

Spirit of Norway 20 produced it second impressive performance of the weekend to win the Egyptian Grand Prix and keep their world title hopes alive, with Qatar 96, second and the championship leader’s, Victory 77 in third. With the course shortened to 57.59Nm due to the extreme conditions, Spirit of Norway took full advantage of starting from pole position, hitting the front from the green flag and gradually building an impressive lead over their main rivals in the championship race, Qatar 96 and Victory77, and going on to take the chequered flag and win by 30 seconds. Qatar 96 produced another strong showing after qualifying second fastest on Friday, and second place achieved their main target of reducing the gap to the championship leader’s. Third place for Victory 77 was a gutsy performance, after throttleman Sanchez suffered a severe nose bleed at the start of the race and struggled throughout. After producing their best showing in qualifying, Negotiator brings home a fourth place, ahead of an excellent result for Giampaolo Montavoci, who switched into his second boat after crashing in qualifying, to partner Kolbjorn Selmer. Jotun 90 completed the top six, but will be disappointed with the result after running strongly in fourth and pushing Victory 77 for most the race, before technical problems dropped them down the field. There was also disappointment also for Qatar 95, who after starting from sixth position, moved up to fourth and was closing in on third place when a broken supercharger belt ended their race. After running in fifth place, Spirit of Norway 20’s race ended when a water hose broke with SeveneleveN and Victory 7 also failing to finish due to technical problems. The teams now head to Doha in two weeks time for the Qatar Grand Prix, and with 24 points separating the top three, the title race looks set to go down to the final two races in Dubai.

Project: Hatteras 56 Motor Yacht

Hatteras Yachts is pleased to announce the newest member of its fleet, the 56 Motor Yacht incorporating original design concepts, spacious interior and intuitive features that make this an ideal boat for the owner-operator. The new 56 Motor Yacht represents a new entry-level product for owners who appreciate the advanced design and robust construction that sets Hatteras apart. Like all Hatteras models, the 56 Motor Yacht features a solid-fiberglass hull bottom that includes beefy support for key areas such as the tunnels, shaft log and strut locations. Divinycell coring is infused into the hull sides, decks and superstructure to add stiffness and reduce weight, benefiting from advanced variable-deadrise design that utilizes large propeller tunnels to reduce draft and increase efficiency. Powered by a pair of 705hp Cummins QSM11s as standard equipment, installed in a V-drive configuration with the gearbox forward. This positions the engine room as far aft as possible and allows for more living space below. Combined with an 18 feet beam, this configuration gives the 56 MY as much interior volume as many yachts in the mid-60-foot range. Powered by its standard engines, the 56 Motor Yacht is expected to achieve a cruising speed of 18 knots and top end of 21 knots, providing a usable range of approximately 300 nautical miles. Optional 1000hp CAT C18s will push the 56 to a cruise of 26 knots and a top end of 29 knots. The 56MY features a three-stateroom, two-head arrangement that includes a 130-square-foot full-beam master stateroom amidships, a VIP stateroom forward, and guest bunks to port. An optional arrangement provides for a private crew quarters with discreet access, in lieu of the third guest stateroom.

Class 1 - Porto Marina Egypt Preview

Qatar 96 in Romania, second on the charts chase Victory 77 for 2007 title
The Class 1 fleet returns to competitive action this last October weekend, and will line up on the aquamarine waters of the Mediterranean, as Porto Marina, one of the most fashionable resorts in the Middle East, hosts the Egyptian Grand Prix, round five of the WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship and the first round of the WPPA Class 1 Middle East Championship.
The Egyptian Grand Prix is the start of an intensive period of racing for the teams, with four races in the Middle East in six weeks. And with 80 points on offer (excluding bonus points), the world title is still very much up for grabs, but the chasing pack must start taking points away from the championship leaders if they are to stay in the title race, and they must start doing it in Porto Marina.
The first half of the season has been dominated by the Middle East teams, who have kept their European rivals off the podium at all but one race, with Victory 77’ blazing a trail of supremacy and consistency, taking three wins out of four and a second place to clinch the European Championship and give themselves a healthy, but not unassailable 19 point lead in the overall title race. If they can maintain their imperious form, the title is enticingly within sight. Whilst the teammates in Victory 7, are currently lying in fourth place, and in a strong position to play a key supporting role if Victory are to regain the world crown. Qatar 96, with four podium finishes so far lead the chase, and is the only outfit who can grab the title without relying on Victory 77 to break or falter, assuming that is, that they win the next four races, a Herculean task. But Qatar 96 have the reliability and if they can find some extra pace, can pile pressure on the leaders. For the defending World Champions Spirit of Norway 10, the title appears to be slipping from their grasp. A frustrating season so far and with technical hitches restricting them to just one win, sees them 30 points off the lead. But Spirit of Norway has proved to be the fastest boat out there, but will have to hope the leaders break or drop considerable points and that they return to winning ways, if they are to successfully defend their title. Qatar 95, are the pick of the teams running V8 power-plants, and after a season of ongoing development with the Mercury and a podium last time out, appear to have hit form at a crucial time and look likely to be podium challengers from here on in. Spirit of Norway 20, the youngster of the Norwegian team also with the Mercury, will be looking to build on a solid first season together and try to find some extra pace to move them into a top six ranking. For Negotiator, bedding in Sterling V8s and Jotun, running the Mercury, a lack of reliability and some misfortune has dogged their seasons. But both teams can start to turn their fortunes around by realising their obvious pace and potential and produce strong showings in Porto Marina with a focus on grabbing some silverware in the Middle East Championship. SeveneleveN will be hoping to start the second half of the season, as they started the season, with a top six finish in Porto Marina, but with Tomaso Polli unavailable to race, Nicola Giorgi will be joined in the cockpit by Class 1 newcomer and fellow Italian, Giorgio Manuzzi. Veneta Marina-Duemme Brokers’s season has been dominated by driver changes, but Foresti & Suardi will be looking to improve on the solid performances that sees them lying in a very credible sixth place. Boat number 2, carrying the colours of new sponsor Fainplast, formerly VM Foresti & Suardi.
The race weekend starts officially on Friday 26 with the EDOX pole position, with a final practice session and the teams lining up for the 21 lap, 97.36Nm Egyptian Grand Prix in Porto Marina on Saturday, 27 October.

Boat Review: Menorquin MY 160 Hardtop

Presentation
Founded in 1978, Menorquin offers a line of semi-displacement cruisers and yachts from 10 to 18 metres based on the traditional Spanish fishing boat available in the various open, hardtop and flybridge versions. PowerYacht presents you the second largest model off the range the MY 160 Hardtop, which is also available in flybridge and standard form which differs from the hardtop by not having a rigid extended cover for the cockpit.
Accommodation
Finished in classic all wooden style interior the Menorquin MY 160 unlike outside, is available in only one version with 3 cabins offering a 6 berth sleeping accommodation. A spacious master cabin with en-suite shower head is located forward. Two guest cabins of moderate dimensions are located to port mid ship of the lower deck and are a VIP cabin located aft of the accommodation deck and the third cabin with 2 single L-shaped guest berths. Guest head is located fore to starboard. A small L-shaped settee and a spacious L-shaped galley located to port of the accommodation deck entrance complete the sleeping area. An optional small crew cabin is available on request forward.
The enclosed upper deck divided by a sliding patio door from the cockpit offers a spacious L-shaped saloon settee to port with the pilot house to starboard. Outside is the other living part of any Menorquin model, showing its Mediterranean boating heritage by offering spacious all around deck. The 160 with its important dimensions continues this philosophy with high bulwark covered side decks and spacious cockpit. In this hardtop version the aft cockpit also enjoys a rigid cover offering good protection from the sun and bad weather.
Performance
The MY 160 Hardtop offers a very stable semi-displacement hull particularly studied to plane when cruising at 10 knots plus of speed. The high vertical bow shows sign of a solid seaboat and the impression is confirmed when navigating in the tough. The Menorquin also offers a fabulous 15 knot cruising speed which is just fast enough for comfortable crossings. Is this not the speed that one uses in many of the rough tough head seas!
Positive
deck cockpit area
comfortable semi-planning 15 knots cruising speed
spacious saloon
Negative moderate sized guest cabins
low bathing platfrom
Competition Typical as it is finding the right competition for the Menorquin is not easy business, it is either you like or you don't! The classic Spanish fishing boat lines have something special which are very difficult to understand. This is what to look for, but consider each of the mentioned alternative as a wild card selection if the Menorquin is to you tastes:
Apreamare 54 - fast 30 knot hull, fishing boat based but from Naples
Grandbanks 52 Heritage EU - US style trawler, flybridge, similar speed
Nordhavn 50 - full displacement, US trawler, flybridge, super 2800 NM range
Sciallino 15.95mt Gemy - low speed planning hull, Liguria fishing boat heritage
WILD CARD: Estensi 530 Maine - modern classic, super comfort, low speed planning
Conclusion
The Mernorquin MY 160 Fly has something particular thanks to the Spanish Gozzo design which has the affect "look at me I am different". But the Menorquin is not only about this and it offers a very impressive package like the comfortable slow fast 15 knots cruising speed, spacious interior accommodation and superb deck space confirming its Mediterranean heritage would all make for an interesting choice. The other bonus is the competitive price and its optimum navigation and reduced maintenance costs which is lower fuel bills for a boat of this size. The last thing which does hold a high important factor when one purchases a boat of this size and value is the presence, and the Menorquin MY 160 Hardtop has loads of it!

New Model: Overmarine Mangusta 165

Announced as a project in 2004, the new Overmarine Mangusta 165 has been very much a top secret construction, with everyone trying to imagine what a fifty metre Sports Super Yacht would look like. Overmarine did not disappoint the critics and presented a spectacular Sport Yacht with open like characteristics! Personally I find it difficult to call this an open, although one must admit especially looking at the 165 from distance away that the design and style all call for a big hard top, open sport yacht. Architect Righini designed a great looking Sporty fifty metre Super Yacht following the lines of the successful 130 and putting in good use the extra length with an invisible sport flybridge and aggressive breath taking lines as a Mangusta should be. The custom interior of the 165 can accommodate ten or twelve guests in five or six staterooms while crew accommodation is for seven members in three cabins. Still as all Overmarine Mangusta this is a custom project and can be transformed to the owners requests. As for the performance these are up to standard Mangusta fame, with Hull one fitted with twin MTU 4556hp each driving Kamewa Jets plus Booster giving 37 knots of top speed. Overmarine is predicting to build 2 165' a year.

Projects: Windy 48 Triton, Windy 44 Chinook

Stylish sports looking hardtops are becoming a must for 12 metres plus sports cruisers and famous Norwegian builder Windy continue to update it's range in this direction, offering aggressive looking rigid protection cockpit models. The new Windy 48 Triton is a spacious 3 cabin, 2 heads, 14 metre hard top sports cruiser project, designed as the recently presented Windy's by Hans Jergen Johnsen. This new Windy is constructed with Volvo IPS in mind but is also offered with a shaft driven alternative for traditional propulsion lovers. A 34 knots top and 28 knots cruising speed are being estimated with 2 x !PS 600 Volvo diesel engines. The new Windy 44 Chinook is a 13.5 metre, 3 cabin sports cruiser project. As Windy's tradition of building family orientated craft, this project shows all this offering a 6 berths with 2 head comfortable interior accommodation. Designed by Windy Boats own design team, this new model is a high contender for the top spot in this size style craft, especially when one thinks that most of the sports cruisers available in this size offer 2 spacious cabins. Developed with Volvo's IPS in mind but also offered with tradition shaft drives, the 44 Chinook has an estimated top speed of 38 knots.
