Project: Garlington 48 Flybridge

Garlington is currently building this new 48 Flybridge model.  A new entry level flybridge model, the 48 is based on the lines of the current smallest flybridge offer the 61, and possibly share hull lines with the 49 Express.  The Garlington 48 Flybridge will offer an interior with two guest cabins; a master cabin forward, and guest room with two bunk berths to port side, with a shower head located to starboard.  The living and dining is located as all and or most sport-fisherman on the main deck, with dinette to port side on entrance, with an L-shaped galley behind.  Unlike its bigger sister the Garlington 48 Flybridge will have a central entrance passage way with two mezzanines looking to the action on the aft deck.  No power or performance data is yet mentioned though as most Garlington's expect a forty knots plus performance.  Garlington has been on a roll in recent months, having received a few orders of its current 71 flagship which it splashed in 2021, with a new flagship also reported on the works.  Watch this spot for information on the new flagship.

Damen Antalya Shipyard Fire

A fire developed at a Damen Yachting Shipyard hall located at the Antalya Free Zone, Turkey on Monday May 15, 2023.  The fire developed on one of the construction halls with local fire fighters responding to the call, and evacuation protocol going into operation.  No one was injured in the fire, with the hall also being void of any projects, even though this is reported to have sustained a huge amount of damage.  Damen Antalya is believed to have three support super yachts in build at this moment in Antalya.
Damen yachting shipyard Antalya is one of ten ship building facilities of the Dutch company founded in 1927 on the River Merwede.  The Antalya facility was bought in 2013, previously a site of Vitters and opening up as Damen Shipyards Antalya in 2015.  Damen Antalya is specialized in building supply vessels, and support super yachts from 35 to eighty meters.

Project: Whitehaven 6500 Coupe

Whitehaven present the project for the new 6500 Coupe, a model which is the 6100 series extended in hull length for 1.3 meters. This extra length capability was incorporated into the original hull design and the moulds were constructed to produce hull lengths from 18 meters to just over 19.5 meters. This extra length enables the 6500 models to include a full beam master bathroom behind the master bed which is an option often requested but which could not be incorporated into the 6100 models and still be in keeping with the application of traditional straight shaft propulsion systems. The 6500 Coupe otherwise share the same lower accommodation as the 6100 models with the addition of a full beam master bathroom further complimenting the owner’s stateroom. This provides the option to convert the third guest bathroom into a utility room with extra storage and refrigeration which is always very helpful. There are several options around main deck, saloon and cockpit designs however the main saloon area remains the same length as the 6100 with the extra 1.3 meters creating a longer and more spacious cockpit that can include several custom options for seating, bar areas, alfresco dining and BBQ locations. Surprisingly, the increase to the water line length creates for a more efficient operating vessel and even though there’s significantly more underwater surface area, it’s expected the additional efficiency of the longer 6500 hull to have zero impact on fuel consumption over the 6100 at long distance cruise speeds of up to twelve knots. In fact, there will be very little impact in litres per hour fuel burn at speeds up to eighteen knots. From a manufacturing perspective, sharing the same hull platform across two Whitehaven 6100 and 6500 models that delivers increased amenity over a longer and more efficient operating hull with a lower cost per foot to produce compared to its smaller sibling made good sense. The first Whitehaven 6500 Coupe will be completed in late 2023 and will be on display at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in 2024.

Project: Numarine 40MXP

Numarine’s popular and successful range of stylish, spacious and highly capable superyachts prove that access-all-areas yachting is no longer the preserve of ever-longer hulls. Its current fleet, which stretches from the talented 22XP to the chiselled 45XP flagship, is quickly becoming a global benchmark in the highly competitive twenty to 45-metre bracket, but rather than rest on its laurels the shipyard is continuing to innovate, enters the 40MXP project. Preserving the same style cues and DNA of her siblings, the new 39-metre 40MXP retains Numarine’s high-volume, low-hassle, long-range ethos while offering several new design features that open up new opportunities to enjoy the intimate connection with the sea that a yacht confers. It’s a recipe that has made its mark even before the new model has been officially added to the menu; two 40MXPs have already been sold, with delivery expected in 2025. The ‘MXP’ stands for Mediterranean Explorer, but the reference is not suggestive of a cruising limitation of the design, rather it reflects the beach-club lifestyle typical of Med yachts. As an evolution of and at two metres longer than the 37XP, the new 40MXP draws on the Med lifestyle idea and delivers it in several exciting ways. First, the aft deck has been enlarged both as a result of the extra length and also by moving the aft sliding doors to the saloon forward by three metres. The result is an area with space for a large alfresco dining area, a bar, and a lounge area surrounding another new feature an aft pool complete with glass transom. This spectacular new social hub extends down to a huge hydraulic swim platform that stretches across the yacht’s eight metre beam. This oasis of outdoor living can be shaded with an awning to keep the extremes of the sun at bay or, with the option of short standard or long optional upper deck extensions, can also benefit from the upper deck overhang for more permanent shade in climates such as the Middle East or Australia. While the ‘M’ part of the 40MXP offers the glamour of beach life, the XP explorer part is as alive as ever, with the 40MXP achieving an impressive six thousand nautical-mile range at eight knots thanks to the optimised hull form developed by long-standing Numarine naval architecture partner Umberto Tagliavini. Standard propulsion comes from a pair of MAN 800hp engines, although there is the option to upgrade to a Tier III-compliant twin MAN 900hp installation. The first two sold units will both have the 900hp MAN upgrades. The interior offers Numarine’s trademark space and luxury, with six suites for up to twelve guests that include a full-beam main deck master and an impressive full-beam lower deck VIP. The interior design, as the 40MXP’s exterior lines once again come from Can Yalman. The 40MXP offers everything, from expansive flybridge to generous upper deck and inviting main deck that has made the 37XP a much-coveted and commercially successful model.

New Model: Benetti Oasis 34M

Benetti present the new small Oasis 34M, its current entry level superyacht model, which follows the footsteps of her big sister Oasis 40M in a six meter smaller size, and was the first in the series and a resounding global success. The Oasis series encapsulates all the assets that have helped write the history of the Benetti brand: a strong tradition kept up to date, with investment in research and development, new style codes, quality and reliability. This highly innovative concept satisfies all the needs of contemporary owners who today more than ever choose to return to a life lived with emotion and engagement in close contact with the water. Oasis 34M is the right answer for active, curious owners who want a dynamic, less formal lifestyle on board and are always on the lookout for an exciting adventure. The exterior styling is like the bigger sister by British design studio RWD, a familiar name in international yacht design circles, and many recent semi-custom Benetti's including the B.Now series, while the interior design is again by prominent New York-based firm Bonetti Kozerski that has introduced influences on board derived from the architecture of sophisticated residential projects, featuring style solutions made famous by fine buildings as the Pace Gallery in Manhattan and elegant private homes, and high-profile collaborations with starchitects of the calibre of Peter Marino. Bonetti-Kozerski have harmonised the spaces on board Oasis 34M, achieving a balance between interiors and exteriors and bringing the warmth and naturalness of outdoor teak indoors to create a calm and relaxing setting dominated by bleached Canaletto walnut. Here too, it is the intersection of design excellence and the avant-garde that has generated the new model in the series, expressing a luxury as understated and unostentatious as it is richly detailed. Made of fibreglass, the Oasis 34M has three decks plus a generous sun deck. The silhouette features a vertical bow, from which sleek, modern and elegant lines descend in a gentle gradient to water level and form a big pieds dans l’eau swim platform. For this sleek design, with its water-hugging stern, RWD has also drawn on stylistic hallmarks borrowed from car design, such as the silver-coloured trim that helps accentuate the lines. The cornerstone on which the appeal of Oasis 34M is built is once again the spectacular Oasis Deck®, which hosts an extraordinary beach club, and the key driver behind the success of the yacht’s 40-meter big sister. Oasis 34M boasts all the plus points of the Oasis Deck® solution, which are key to the success of Benetti’s range of the same name: the two extending wings increase the size of the deck, establishing closer contact with the water at the same time as providing protection from the waves, while the infinity pool incorporated in a prominent position on the deck leaves you breathless with its incredible view of the water. Owners and guests therefore have an uninterrupted 270-degree view towards the Oasis Deck®, including from the lounge on the main deck. The combination of sun and shade provides guests with somewhere to relax at any time of day. The social design defining the spaces from the main lounge to the water creates a unique oasis of conviviality that is an invitation to dive into an immersive experience with nature. Close connection with the sea and nature is another focal point for the project, a feature achieved and masterfully showcased by the design team on every deck and in all outdoor areas. Every outdoor space is designed and developed to create a convivial atmosphere and offer exclusive panoramic views. The layout is open and flowing, featuring an elegant and understated style expressed by the selection of materials chosen to highlight visual continuity; the custom-designed furnishings take their inspiration from ocean waves and are joined by selected iconic pieces from top Italian design brands. The design reveals the architects’ meticulous attention to detail, to how the materials are used and their positioning. The parquet on the main and upper decks is perfectly coordinated with the teak used outdoors, while the ivory-coloured leather decorating the ceilings is the perfect foil for the bleached walnut panels with a ribbed design on the vertical surfaces. Together they form a palette of understated colours that are light and bright but create a warm and relaxing atmosphere in every setting. This theme is also a powerful influence on the master suite, designed as an intimate cocoon-like space. With excellent hull efficiency enhanced by the vertical bow, Oasis 34M has a top speed of 16 knots and, at an average cruising speed of 10 knots, a range of 2,700 nautical miles, or more than enough to complete a transatlantic crossing. The rationale is to provide customers with a highly reliable product that is designed to meet the real needs of life on board and maintains its beauty with passing time. For this reason, Benetti has already sold thirteen Oasis 34m with build slots running into 2026.

Improve-it = Hinckley Picnic Boat 40 S

Hinckley's Picnic Boat was the start of the down East revolution 25 years ago, this customer driven product evolution has grown the Hinckley family over the last 25 years. To satisfy the day-boating product mission, the Picnic Boat 40 S was designed with an interior settee that converted into an oversized v-berth. The first eight boats were built this way until a client asked for a large “Island” berth for sleeping only. Aptly named the “Island King”, a new arrangement option was born. The evolution continued as Hinckley listened to customer needs for entertaining guests. Cutting boards, compact ice compartments and custom mouldings to secure tumblers while preparing drinks are just some of the customization that has helped evolve the Picnic Boat 40 S. Another evolution in the Picnic Boat 40 S was the patented Side door, again the result of owner feedback who wanted an easier way to board their Hinckley.
