The yacht in this is fire is a Lazzara 80 SC model as produced from 2002 to 2006 to an inhouse design with interiors by Christian Delashmutt.  Lazzara build five 80 SC and twenty 80 Sky Lounge, for a total of 25 hulls of the series.  The Lazzara 80 SC and 80 Sky Lounge came out as a replacement of the 80, and evolved into the 84 in 2006.

Spencer Yachts New Web Site

Spencer Yachts from Wanchese, North Carolina presents its new World wide web showroom.  Paul Spencer got his hands in boat building in 1996 when he founded the company with his name in that year.  Like other custom sportfish builders from Carolina, Paul Spencer entered boat building from a charter captain career and out of necessity of building his next boat, replacing the getting tired ten year old 55 foot single engine charter vessel build by his father in law Sheldon Midgett in frame and plank wood.  Paul's idea was to follow in the footsteps of local Carolina captain Buddy Cannady who build a boat, kept it a year or two and sold it.  For doing this Paul mortgaged his home, and build his first shed without electricity and water, and in 1997 launched Spencer Yachts hull.one. The first Spencer was a 59 feet sportfish yacht powered by twin 800hp Cat engines originally titled Sizzler, which Paul designed with help from Mike Lohr, and only kept for a Summer.  Hull two comes the following year, an order from the family who bought hull one, what will be a two feet bigger and more luxurious fitted sportfish yacht.  Up till 2000 Paul will build a sportfish yacht a year, but things will get busy from 2001, when the five boats a year average build schedule starts, making Spencer Yachts as the most busy of the custom cold moulded build sport fish yachts delivering over one hundred builds in under twenty years.  Spencer has since 1997 build boats and yachts from a 26ft semi-production centre-console, and custom builds from the twin outboard powered 37ft hull.71 to the 87ft hull.78 in 2012 and the 90ft hull.86 from 2014. Paul Spencer unlike most custom sportfish builders also likes to experiment with propulsion building both jet drives and IPS propulsion custom builds for customers.  His first IPS pod boat came in 2007, in the early years of Volvo's inboard propulsion system with the 43 Express hull.43 which was followed by seven other IPS pod hulls including the triple powered 70 Volvo hull.76 launched in 2010.  Spencer also entered jet propulsion in 2019 with the 50 Jet hull.104, which was followed by hull.222 63ft sportfish yacht in 2021, with both units reaching fifty knots top speeds.  Today Paul runs Spencer Yachts with the help of his children Paul and Cliff.  Spencer new website takes you around with the following buttons; Custom Yachts, Marine Services, Fabrication, News and Events, Media, Store, and About Spencer. Spencer Yachts is also in social media with bottom page button taking you to its; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube pages.

Jerry Husted 1928 - 2024

Jerry Husted the Nordic Tugs founder died at 96 years old on second January 2024.  A pioneer of cruising tugs, Jerry Husted introduced the 26-foot Nordic Tug at the 1980 Seattle Boat Show, the origin boat of the cruising tugboat genre. During the energy crisis of the 1970s Husted concluded that powerboaters needed a vessel that wouldn’t cost a fortune to buy and operate, what was the company introductory statement. He built a 26-foot boat with a traditional workboat profile and introduced it as the Nordic Tug at the 1980 Seattle Boat Show. Powered by a 3-cylinder, 36-hp Volvo diesel, the boat had a range of 600 miles at 6.5 knots. The price was $29,900.  By the end of the 10-day show, Husted had sold 33 boats; by the end of the month following the event, he had orders for a total of 54 even though the price had increased to $39,900 after the show.  Nordic Tugs has since built more than 900 boats from 26 to 54 feet. Husted gave up the helm of Nordic Tugs in December 2007, although he remained with the company until three days before his eightieth birthday, in 2012. Known as a hands-on executive, he sea-trialed all but a handful of Nordic Tug models.

New Model: Wally Why100

For the end of 2023 Wally ended it's fantastic year by launching the first unit of the Why100 in the beautiful Venice setting. The one hundred, an acronym for its gross tonnage volume rather then size is the small of the Why series, which debuted in 2021 with the Why200, and today features three models which start from twenty and go up to 29 meters in length.  For the WallyWhy100 Luca Bassani presented something different, a bridge to the Power series in design and target usage, offering a less volume focused product then the two other larger Why models.  A hard-top sport yacht with spacious accommodation and a re-invented and un-edited main deck layout, the Why100 is unique in this segment for the very forward helm station which extends the use of the main deck pushing the pilot house for over two-thirds of the length, and presents an exterior sun-lovers aft deck which offers the same spaces of similar sized yachts.  The design of main deck is also un-edited with a central circle dinette. Below the lower deck of the WallyWhy100 offers three double cabins with an owners full beam stateroom at midships, a VIP suite to port side, and twin berth guest cabin to starboard.  A galley with twin bunk berth crew cabin is located forward with a separate excess to port of the central helm station on the main deck.  The WallyWhy100 is powered by twin Volvo 900hp or optional 1000hp engines with IPS pod drives propulsion for top speeds up to 27 knots from the large power option.
