News: Nord West September 2011

SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW 2011
Once more Nord West looks forward to the opportunity of meeting up at this top United Kingdom show. For Nord West this will be the ninth consecutive Southampton show and the Swedish boat builder is very much looking forward to the opportunity of showing you its latest addition to the range. Nord West in fact has chosen Southampton Boat Show as the first international show to demonstrate the new 430 Sports Top! This version will have one of three interior design options that is available for this model and is  equipped with the new stern drive Volvo Penta D6 400hp and joystick control. Also at the show we will have the still best selling Nord West 420 Flybridge!  2011 has been another successful year for Nord West sales in our home market and several European markets; however the builder appreciate the concerns with regards to currency rates and recessional pressures which have been difficult for its UK customers. Nord West is still very keen to do business with clients in the UK and is able to arrange flexible finance packages and open to discuss sensible part exchange values.  Nord West believes in the importance of the Southampton show and hope to secure successful business. Nord West will also introduce and welcome new staff Richard Samuelsson, who will be joining Johan Stubner and will be doing first Southampton Boat Show.  Nord West will be on Marina Berths M232-233.

NEGOTIATIONS TO AQUIRE NAJAD
A syndicate around the powerboat producer Nord West, intend to place a bid on the Najad sailing company who recently filed for bankruptcy on the 9th of August 2011. This last production year the Najad yard produced 25 high quality sailing yachts, and had a significant service operation around the establishment in Henån on the island of Orust. Nord West has their production facilities and main offices nearby on Vindön and has produced 37 high quality powerboats.  The Najad yard was founded in 1971 and has since then produced over 2000 sailing yachts. The company filed for bankruptcy after an intense period of expansion from 2005-2007 when the companies investments and sales escalated rapidly. After the financial turmoil of 2008 the sales decreased significantly and despite the following years production cuts, the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in the beginning of August.  Nord West was founded in 1985 by Benny Martinsson and has today over 130 employees with an annual turnover of approximately 350MSEK this last production year. The company is family owned and includes the production yard at Vindön, Orust and a moulding & tooling company in Lysekil. The yard is one of the most modern boatyards today in Sweden and sells their products all over the world.

Project: Apreamare 45 Smeraldo

Apreamare presents the project for the 45 Smeraldo model.  This upcoming project represents a novelty in the retro range, and is designed by Architect Tommaso Spadolini for exterior lines and interior layout, and Umberto Taglio for underwater shape and structural planning.  The 45 also represents a return to the Smeraldo name for Apreamare.  What I see from Apreamare is surely a more modern interpretation of the classic Italian 'Gozzo Sorrentino' fishing boat not only outside but also on the technical things.  Some apparent changes are the wooden bulwarks which is now smaller and leaner, and more minimal design to the super structure. Obviously some classic themes remain as the forward settee a design shown by Apreamare in the nineties and since then copied in various other builds.  The 45 Smeraldo will feature an enclosed main deck with saloon, galley, and helm station all located here. So far no lower deck plans are shown but I do imagine this to be spacious mostly for the use of IPS pods.

Project: Azimut 40 Flybridge

Azimut will present at Genoa the new 40 model.  This new project and some of its details is most of all a redevelopment of the 2009 presented 38 Flybridge.  The Stefano Righini designed 40 will obviously keep the features of the baby Azimut Flybridge but steals some ideas from the 40 S sister boat.  That is the new 40 Flybridge will have an extended larger up and down hydraulic bathing platform aft, and opening glass window on the flybridge which increases air circulation and makes the inner saloon a better fresher place to be.  As one might have noticed the rendering so far shown does not show any of the new details. So far the power remains as the 38 with twin Cummins 355hp giving a 31 knots top speed.

New Model: Itama 45

Itama starts its boat show season with the presentation of the new 45 model, a further evolution of the best selling one hundred plus delivered Forty and again a creation of Marco Casali.  Keeping in line with tradition the new 45 breaks new frontiers of this brand, thanks to the new aft sweeping stern, and large view windows for the cabins.  But the 45 is all about added features from the invisible hydraulic gangway, that is integrated into the hull, and bathing platform which can  lower in the water.  The Itama 45 will also feature a removable free standing shower aft, just as shown on other Ferretti Group models.  Inside the theme continues as was shown with the celebrating hull one hundred of the Forty with an interior finished in white lacquered wood, paying big homage to the classic Itama's.  The layout is similar to the Forty accept for a rotation of the shower head to 90 degrees this increasing space.  The lower deck offers a choice for a single cabin and a large twin L-shaped sofa saloon, with a more spacious galley, or the more popular two cabins version.  In both versions the owner room is to fore.  Power is from twin Cummins 480hp engines with traditional line shafts, which take the classic deep Vee hull shape up to a max speed of 33 knots.

Designed by Seaway and J and J Design from Slovenia the Greenline GL40 is a larger yacht of similar looks and the same philosophy as her smaller 33 sister: with ease of handling, safety and seaworthiness for long lasting well-being on board. The low-drag energy-saving Superdisplacement hull coupled to hybrid diesel electric engines, and solar technology brings unknown efficiency in for the use of this explorer cruiser. The GL40 will offer a six berth sleeping accommodation located in two cabins below, plus a convertible saloon on the main deck.  A single shower head located below serves the guests.  Power is from standard single 75hp which give speeds up to 9 knots.  But further options from a single 165, or 225, and twin 165hp engines give top speeds up to 18 knots.  The electronic engine is 20kw, and gives 20 minutes solo use, and a speed of 7 max, and 6 knots of cruise.
