A couple were saved as a classic thirteen meter Hatteras sportfish cruiser went ablaze half-mile offshore of Key West’s South Roosevelt Boulevard, Florida at around 09:45 morning time of Tuesday eight April. The onboard couple radioed a Mayday, with TowBoatUS responding and saving the couple and Key West Fire Department dispatching its fire boat. These were followed by Key West Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission who all battled the blaze. Once the fire was extinguished, TowBoatUS brought the couple back to shore and towed the burned 1984 vessel back to its headquarters at Robbie’s Marina on Stock Island. The cause of the classic Hatteras fire was not reported.
The classic Hatteras in this fire is a 1984 build 45 Convertible Series II as designed by Jack Hargrave, and produced from 1984 to 1992. The 45 Convertible Series II came out as a replacement to the Hatteras 46 Convertible Series II, and was replaced by the 46 Convertible Series III.
