Project: Kadey-Krogen 60 Open

Kadey-Krogen present the project for a 60 Open model, which builds on the success of the 50 Open. The 60 Open will feature the same open living concept first shown on the smaller model, which seamlessly joins the salon and galley area with the pilothouse. As a result of the volume and use of space of the 60 Open, a day head can be easily added in the pilothouse to enhance liveability while on passage or on the hook. Belowdecks, the en-suite master is placed amidships and features a king-size berth to take full advantage of the 60 Open’s five meters plus beam. Additional highlights include twin John Deere 200hp diesel engines, transoceanic range yet an island-friendly draft of less than two meters, and several interior layout options including a three-stateroom, three-head layout with a convertible office area. Provisions for crew accommodations are also offered abaft the engine room.

Web: Kadey-Krogen New Web Site

Kadey-Krogen presents its new World wide web showroom.  Kadey-Krogen starts its journey in 1976 with founders Art Kadey an experienced boat builder yacht charter and broker, and Jim Krogen a commercial designer.  Art Kadey identified an untapped segment in the market for a blue water explorer cruiser, and show it to Jim who developed the first model the Kadey-Krogen 42 which launched in 1977.  Build of fiberglass in Taiwan the 42 was inspired to commercial trawler boats of the time, and was followed in 1981 by the 38 Cutter a shoal draft island hopper cruiser, and the 36 Monatee in 1984.  In 1988 Kadey-Krogen builds its first yacht over fifty feet with the North sea fishing vessel inspired 54, which will be surpassed in size in 2000 with the 58.  The 54 will evolve into the 55 in 2008, and as at today the 58 is still the official Kadey-Krogen flagship even though the company have project plans for a 70.  In 2019 Kadey-Krogen introduces its new planning motor yacht line with the Summit brand and the 54 model.  Since 1976 Kadey-Krogen has build 678 yachts, and today has eight sales centres around the World.  Kadey-Krogen currently offers seven explorer cruisers and yachts models which start from the 44 AE up to the still in project 70 model, while the Summit line offers the 54 model which is set to expand with the 54 Coupe later on this year.  Kadey-Krogen new web site takes you around with the following buttons; Our Yachts, Passagemaking, Build Quality, Living Aboard, Our Story, Perfect Day, Ship's Store, Brokerga, Summit Motoryachts, Events, and Contact Us.  Kadey-Krogen is also in social media with links at the bottom of the page taking you to its Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube pages.

New Model: Kadey-Krogen 50 Open

The Kadey-Krogen 50 Open is the newest addition to their luxury line of ocean-going explorer yachts, and is a model all her own. Light-filled and open, the 50 Open’s continuous salon/galley/pilothouse main deck arrangement puts entertaining and ease at the center of long-range cruising. For increased privacy or traditional pilothouse passage-making, the Kadey-Krogen 50 Open is optimized with a remote-controlled, retractable bulkhead to separate the helm area from the salon and galley. Access to both the flybridge and the lower accommodations deck are from the pilothouse, via household-style steps. From top-to-bottom, and inside-out, the design of the 50 Open flows gracefully, with sunshine able to flood the large salon windows and aft sliding glass door, it’s always bright on the main deck. The salon is designed with beautiful and comfortable settee seating, a handcrafted cherry table with fold-out top and stainless-steel high/low pedestal base, and a TV that raises and lowers in front of the port side windows. Plus, there’s room for two additional, owner-supplied chairs.  The galley is happily situated between the salon and the pilothouse. A Subzero refrigerator/freezer conveniently located adjacent to the galley counters are among the model’s many standard upgraded features. Storage, including a motorized, pop-up appliance garage, and 16-linear feet of counter surface make smart use of the galley space.  The pilothouse on the 50 Open, like every Kadey-Krogen yacht, was designed with long-range cruising and control in mind. When the retractable panel that separates the pilothouse from the salon and galley is down, there is 360-degree visibility, which is unique for a yacht of this size. Front and center of the helm station, is a custom helm panel with room for large monitors and dedicated displays. Additionally, for easy docking, there are port and starboard wing stations located just outside the pilothouse doors.  With two lower accommodation layouts to choose from, the Kadey-Krogen 50 Open is available in either the standard midships master floor plan or an optional master-forward design. The midship master arrangement features a walk-around island queen berth with handcrafted, built-in nightstand cabinetry. Proper storage for clothing and personal items lines the perimeter of the room, and the private ensuite head, with its standard his-and-her sinks, expansive, deep counters, smart drawer storage, and large shower, defines this master retreat. The standard, VIP-forward stateroom is bright and welcoming as well, with an island queen berth and a private head and shower. Deep drawer storage is complimented by a hanging locker to port.  Many engine rooms make the claim, but the Kadey-Krogen 50 Open truly has a stand-up engine room front to back; seven feet at the front, and six-and-a-half feet of vertical clearance at the back of the engines. This well-lit, well-ventilated, and well-labeled space houses a John Deere 230hp, as the standard power or twin 125hp as an option, as well as the industry’s finest systems and equipment.  Lastly, conveniently accessed from the pilothouse, the flybridge opens to an airy, oversize seating and dining area with an outdoor kitchen and wet bar. Sleek lighting provides just the right amount of ambiance. The forward storage area accommodates supplies, fenders, and cushions, and there’s more storage below the settee seating. Not to be missed on the Open, the flybridge helm station sits directly above the pilothouse, offering excellent sight lines of the fore-deck, bow, and beyond.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 50 Open

Kadey-Krogen reveals the latest model on their drawing board, the 50 Open.  A true departure from any previous Kadey-Krogen model the 50 Open breaks the mold with an open and continuous saloon/galley/pilothouse main deck.  Entering the Kadey-Krogen 50 Open happens through one of five, full walk-through boarding doors for easy access, no matter if high fixed piers, low fixed piers or floating docks are present. Upon entering the saloon of the Krogen 50 Open from the cockpit, it is obvious this is not a typical raised pilothouse offshore trawler. An L-shaped settee to port with storage below and additional seating starboard, enhanced by four large picture windows, make up the spacious saloon. Moving forward is the galley is outfitted with all latest applicances including a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, ample pantry and cabinet storage, and pullout trash and recycle bins. Exclusive to the Kadey-Krogen 50 Open, the pilothouse, elevated by a single step, is situated on the main deck, immediately forward of the saloon and galley. A retractable partition wall, designed to separate the galley from the pilothouse, can be raised for night running or privacy.  Below, the master stateroom and guest accommodations are available in either a midship master with VIP cabin forward, or a master-forward, three-cabin arrangement. Either layout can be customized to meet an owner’s desires, and both options have a master suite that entails a maximum-comfort queen island berth with drawer storage below, a private head and roomy his/her closets. Each design is also appointed with a guest head and luxurious washer and dryer closet. Also below, the stand-up engine room with an incredible six and a half feet of head room, houses either single or twin engines and the industry’s finest systems and equipment.  Out of doors, the Krogen 50’ Open is designed with a Portuguese bridge, port and starboard wing stations, and an uncluttered foredeck with waist-high bow railings. Additionally, she has an unprecedented flybridge modeled after the 58 EB entertaining area and large boat deck. The flybridge is available with an optional hardtop and summer kitchen.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 70

The Kadey-Krogen 70 project was driven by customer interest in an even more spacious raised pilothouse design with increased hospitality. For many owners, the pilothouse is not only the navigation and systems control center of their yacht but a social center as well. With an expanded U-shaped pilothouse settee, larger table and a penthouse-like view, the Krogen 70 has real game room potential for family and friends aboard. In the truly home-like galley fully equipped with full-size, top-of-the-line appliances including a six burner commercial range hob. Plus, the massive galley is open to the saloon with a breakfast bar. Opposite the galley is a wet bar with easy access from the cockpit, saloon and pilothouse. The Kadey-Krogen will feature two lower deck options; two or three double guest cabins both with owners room at midships. A choice also exist for a crew cabin aft, this featuring an utility room and direct engine room access. Two options also exist for the flybridge with the main difference a tender stowed to the beam or to the length. The 70 is the largest Kadey-Krogen model shown in its drawing board option, though the company has ongoing plans of a larger model around the 24 meters size.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 68 Expedition

In 1993 Kadey-Krogen introduced the revolutionary Whaleback 48 featuring a full-beam saloon and, topside, a large central pilothouse. To this day, the Whaleback enjoys a cult-like following for her voluminous interior accommodations and transoceanic capability. In 2007 Kadey-Krogen launched the 55 Expedition as the big sister to the Whaleback 48. Now Kadey-Krogen as part of its new drawing board going bigger plan is pleased to introduce to you the 68 Expedition, an explorer yacht that can readily be handled by two people and will be available in two lower deck layouts; mid-master or master forward arrangements either with three or four cabins.  But the choices of the 68 Expedition will not stop inside and also continue outside and in other areas. Three exterior profiles choices; standard as above, with flybridge, and flybridge plus extended upper deck. The 68 Expedition also features two pilothouse layout choices. As usual important numbers, 71 tons at medium load and eleven thousand liters of fuel show what the 68 Expedition is about, a full displacement long range explorer yacht.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 44 AE

Kadey-Krogen Yachts proudly announces a new model in the company's Advanced Ergonomics series, the Krogen 44 AE.  Building on and inspired by the success of the Krogen 48 AE which was introduced last year, the 44 AE is highlighted by a new galley layout and an even more generously sized flybridge.  The new Krogen 44 AE replaces the 44, which had 26 hulls launched.  The new 44 AE is a result of a collaborative effort between owners, prospective owners and the Kadey-Krogen in-house design team lead by naval architect Dave Glasco. There are more than fifty ergonomic and technical changes that differentiate the 44 AE from her predecessor. New, advanced ergonomic highlights include a full walk-thru cockpit boarding doors, walk-in engine room access, a companion seat next to the helm chair on the flybridge plus corner bench seating with a table perfect for entertaining, and the galley's repositioned starboard-side four-burner Viking range and an eighteen cubic foot refrigerator that opens to port for the chef's convenience. LED lighting and a new engine room ventilation system utilizing intake and exhaust axial fans headline a substantial list of technical upgrades.  Owners choose from several spacious guest stateroom layouts: a den/office arrangement, a dedicated queen berth suite, or "Jack and Jill" berths for the grand kids. Kadey-Krogen provides flexible options for the guest stateroom so owners may configure the space to best fit their lifestyle and cruising plans.

New Model: Kadey-Krogen 52

Hull number one of the new Kadey-Krogen 52 departed Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on August 22 and is set to make its international debut in the Seattle Boats Afloat Show on Lake Union in September. The premiere comes just 18 months after the announcement of the new model.  Testimony to the Kadey-Krogen tagline; At Home on Any Sea," this first 52 has been purchased by a couple who are former professional mariners and graduates of two of the US most demanding merchant marine universities. The couple previously owned a Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea, and upgraded to the 52 when the design plans of the new model were announced last winter.  Building on the ten year success of the Kadey-Krogen 58, the 52 is poised to become the trawler yacht of choice because of her efficiency, comfort underway and her at home liveability. At home features include the fully covered aft deck, spacious saloon, galley fit for gourmet cooking complete with full-size Jenn-Air refrigerator and a four burner Viking range with oven. A weather-tight Dutch door provides direct access to the galley from the starboard side deck. Owners can choose from a three stateroom layout or two staterooms and a dedicated office.  Like all Kadey-Krogens, the 52 is built using vinylester and isophthalic resins, knytex mats, and US-made Cook UV-protected gelcoat to protect the vessel's gelcoat. Critical areas of the hull are reinforced with a special impact-resistant fiberglass mat containing Twaron, the same fiber used to give body armor its "bullet-proof" capability.  Performance is for a 9 knots max with a single 231hp John Deere engine.  But impressive is the long range of over 4000 nautical miles possible at 6 knots.

New Model: Kadey-Krogen 48 AE

Kadey-Krogen presents the new 48 AE to its fleet of full displacement trawler style explorer yachts, set to launch in the coming Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale and the Miami show. In deciding what to name the successor to the venerable 48 North Sea should be, Kadey-Krogen chose the AE designation as an abbreviation for Advanced Ergonomics, the underlying theme in this new offering. Like every Kadey-Krogen yacht for the past 20 years, the 48 AE is being built at Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Hull number 48050 will be the first in the AE series. Like all Kadey-Krogens, the 48 AE features a fully covered aft deck multi-purpose space. Moving forward through the welded aluminum weather tight doors, one immediately begins to notice the Advanced Ergonomic nature of the design. To starboard there is either an L or U-shaped settee along with a table that both expands, raises and lowers so it can perform the dual functions of coffee table or a dining table for eight. To port there is room for two full-sized chairs as well as a clear pathway to the galley and beyond. Forward and to starboard the large 48 AE galley features a four burner range, household size refrigerator/freezer, convection microwave and room for both a trash compactor and dishwasher. In addition to the abundance of storage in the galley, there is a nearly floor-to-ceiling pantry opposite on the port side. Moving up to the pilothouse, the Advanced Ergonomics concept really begins to take hold; here owners will find steps. Real, wide and deep steps like in a house with a rock solid banister for safety. The pilothouse on the 48 AE has been completely redesigned to accommodate side-by-side helm chairs as well as a larger electronics console. The ergonomic theme continues through the pilothouse portside welded aluminum weather tight door to the boat deck and flybridge via molded steps, again with a handrail for safety. The boat deck is large enough to accommodate both a thirteen foot tender as well as a summer kitchen. On the flybridge, the helm with enough room for two helm chairs is off to starboard with an L-shaped settee to port that extends the entertainment space of the boat and makes cruising on the flybridge more comfortable for guests. Owners will have a choice of two or three cabin arrangements with the master being forward to maximize natural light and ventilation. The starboard cabin on both arrangements has a dedicated desk allowing this cabin to double as an office. Two heads are standard, each with a separate stall shower. While the advanced ergonomics are the cornerstone of the 48 AE, they are certainly not the only highlight. There will be bright but efficient LED lighting both inside, outside, and the running lights. The temperature in the engine room, machinery space is also to be controlled by two axial fans with moisture eliminators which will provide an abundant supply of dehumidified air to the single 201hp John Deere engine. Range is over 3,000 miles at an economic 7 knots.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 52

Kadey-Krogen announces the addition of a completely new project to its fleet of pure full displacement trawler yachts with the 52. Building on the ten year success of the Kadey-Krogen 58, the 52 offers many of the same design elements like a raised pilothouse and spacious living areas. In keeping with the company’s adherence to architectural integrity, the 52 is constructed with entirely new tooling as opposed to the very common industry practice of simply stretching the hull of a smaller model. Like every Kadey-Krogen yacht for nearly twenty years, the 52 will be built at Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The fully covered aft deck gives away the live ability of the 52. A feature of every Kadey-Krogen, showing space in the saloon through welded aluminum weather tight doors. Moving forward and to starboard is the gourmet complete galley with a full-size refrigerator. Like her larger sister, the 52 will have a weather-tight Dutch door providing direct access to the galley from the starboard walkway. Port side of the galley are the steps up to the pilothouse with household-like standard risers and treads plus a rock-solid banister for a safe and sure grip at sea. The pilothouse on the 52 accommodates dual helm chairs, rare for this size, allowing both captain and mate great visibility. Owners have the choice of a two or three cabin arrangement, with the master stateroom forward or amidships. The two cabin arrangement enjoys the utility of a large dedicated office space. Two heads are standard with any configuration, and both heads boast an enclosed stall shower. The 52 will be offered in both single and twin engine configurations and will feature Kadey-Krogen’s exclusive counter-faired keel, a design the company pioneered on the 58. This innovative keel design imparts a counter rotation of water flowing into the propeller, canceling some of the propeller induced water rotation. The result is straighter water outflow and improved forward thrust which generates better fuel economy than that of conventional keel designs. Standard power will be provided by a single John Deere continuous duty 231hp engine, with a twin John Deere 121hp available as optional. With 5300 litres of fuel, range is expected to be in excess of 3,000 miles at 7 knots with a top speed of 9.5 knots. Interestingly the company took a customer friendly approach in announcing the Krogen 52 with the builder contacting current owners to see if they were interested in the project, and then showing the a set of plans at the Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale. This system seems to have worked well for Kadey-Krogen receiving reservation for the first five hulls. Tooling for the Krogen 52 is expected to complete in late fall of this year, with the first hull arriving in the United States in summer 2011.

Improve-it = Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea

Kadey-Krogen has been building the 48 North Sea since 1996 and over the years, like all the models, it has evolved and changed as a result of owner feedback and advancements in technology. The 48 North Sea remains one of the most popular models and today’s new improved version is the embodiment of the company’s competencies. Owner feedback was the driving force in changes made to the 48 North Sea all of which enhance the live ability of the boat. The centerpiece of the improved 48 North Sea is the newly enlarged galley which now features a four-burner Viking range, household sized refrigeration as standard, and there is room for a trash compactor and dishwasher as optionals. Stainless steel is standard on the appliances although traditional finishes are available. Kadey-Krogen also completely re engineered the flybridge. Instead of a center line helm flanked by settees running fore and aft, the flybridge piloting station is now off to starboard with an L-shaped settee to port that extends the entertainment space of the boat and makes cruising on the flybridge more comfortable for guests. The flybridge also has a summer kitchen, a feature that contributes to the boat’s self-sufficient capabilities and is popular with owners who entertain on the hook. The second reinvented and improved 48 North Sea is underway to the East Coast for owners Will and Sue Parry who believe this boat will bring them full circle in their fifth Kadey-Krogen experience, and the first arrived in Seattle last fall.

New Model: Kadey-Krogen 55 Expedition

The new Kadey-Krogen 55 Expedition, sets a standard for long range full displacement trawler yachts offering rugged globetrotting capability and technologically advanced construction features, plus new exterior styling with a handsome sheer and a graceful raked bow. Innovative interpretations of Kadey-Krogen's home comfort and highly sociable interior spaces highlight this new design; the living area is nearly 25 percent larger than that of other comparably sized vessels. The new 55 is an expedition style with a range of over 3000 miles at 8 knots, or the equivalent of nonstop from Annapolis to Antigua at 9 knots. She has an ample fuel capacity of 1800 US gallons. Sure and steady twin John Deere 6068 TFM M1 Tier 2 engines power her, each achieving 158 HP. To support this propulsion, the under body features twin counter fared skegs, a Kadey-Krogen innovation for maximum efficiency. The balance of form and function in the 55 Expedition is evident as soon as you board. Characteristic of all Kadey-Krogen yachts, a roomy, comfortable and highly functional pilothouse serves as navigation area and living space. There is the fully covered aft deck from which to enjoy your surroundings whether you're entertaining guests, reading a book, or enjoying a snooze. Forward from the aft deck through welded aluminum weather tight doors is the saloon or, more aptly the living room as this space is a quarter larger than that of similar sized vessels. The port side galley remains amidships, directly adjacent to the saloon, so those who are prepping and cooking are still a part of the conversation. This galley is particularly well appointed with top-of-the-line appliances including a Viking range, Jennair refrigerator, Miele dishwasher and more. Moving below and forward, the interior space of the 55 Expedition allows both two cabin, or three cabin arrangement options. Each features the master stateroom forward to take advantage of natural light and fresh breezes. The master has a full head en suite that includes a spacious shower stall. A second head is opposite the starboard staterooms. Those familiar with Kadey-Krogen will recognize the natural flow and comfortable look and feel of the living quarters, as the 55 Expedition reflects the experience that only can be gained in 30 years of building live aboard passage making trawler yachts.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 64 Expedition

Until now, the largest model offered by Kadey-Krogen has been their 58 but the company believes there is room and interest for a bigger model so long as it can still be handled by a couple. The 64 Expedition is designed to be handled comfortably by two people, yet guests and/or crew can be accommodated with privacy for all as the 64' is available with multiple cabin and head layout options. The saloon of the 64 Expedition is located where every Kadey-Krogen saloon can be found: forward through the welded aluminum weather-tight doors off the fully covered aft deck. The port side galley remains amidships, directly adjacent to the saloon, so those who are prepping and cooking are still a part of the conversation. The galley is well appointed with top-of-the-line stainless appliances including a four-burner Viking range, full-size Jenn-Air refrigerator, a super-quiet Miele dishwasher, a microwave/convection oven, and trash compactor. As a first for Kadey-Krogen, there is a separate dining room to starboard, opposite the galley. The design crew at Kadey-Krogen can also accommodate owner needs and will ensure the 64 Expedition meets the needs and expectations of its purchaser. A wide walkway along the starboard side provides exterior access from the aft deck to the massive foredeck that is capable of handling a 17-foot tender and related equipment. For those that favor the looks of an expedition yacht but prefer to operate a vessel outside the pilothouse in fair weather, the 64 Expedition is available with a flybridge. Kadey-Krogen vice president, Larry Polster, believes this new boat gives the company an opportunity to showcase how it can cater to cruisers who favor designs with maximum interior space without compromising handling, safety, or range. He also points out the architectural integrity of the design and says, that Kadey-Krogen don't stretch boats. The 64 is built using a dedicated mold and like the 55 it incorporates three keels. Engineering aboard the 55 was so well received that it was natural for Kadey-Krogen to extend those features and functions to the 64, like offering again complete access to all machinery spaces from a single point of entry. Owners can move from the rudder post to the bow thruster through watertight doors in a machinery space boasting 6 feet of headroom. This feature makes the 64 unique in class and size, setting it apart from its competitors. The innovative three-keel design by Kadey-Krogen allows the Expedition model to have greater fuel efficiency than other keel forms. Each of the skegs to port and starboard is counter-faired, with the trailing end specially shaped to rotate water flowing into the propeller in the opposite direction of the propeller rotation resulting in greater operating efficiency. The balanced, easy to propel hull form combined with continuous duty 231hp John Deere engines gives the 64 Expedition a range of 3,000nm at 9 knots. Supporting equipment in the engine room includes fuel polishing, oil exchange, and fire suppression systems; hydraulic stabilizers as well as bow and stern thrusters; chilled-water air conditioning; and a universal power converter all are standard. Like all Kadey-Krogens, the hull is built using vinylester and isophthalic resins, knytex mats, and US-made CookAE UV-protected gel coat to protect the vessels color over time. Critical areas of the hull will be reinforced with a special impact-resistant fiberglass mat containing Twaron, the same fiber used to give body armor its "bullet-proof" capability. Twaron is an aramid fiber that is five times stronger than steel and up to 60% lighter than ballistic steel. This strong yet light fiber helps maintain a moderate displacement-to-length ratio that is a signature of Kadey-Krogen engineering and again results in better fuel economy. For the potential buyer wondering where the new 64 Expedition can take them, Kadey-Krogen says to simply choose a destination.
