New Model: Otam 65 Millennium HT

In one of the most difficult periods for pleasure yachting, Otam shows its fighting spirit on display at the latest Genoa Boat Show by presenting its second new model for the 2009 season. The boatyard, which has brilliantly created a tailor made concept to the world of Sport Cruisers and Yachts from 45 to 80 feet, presented itself at Genoa with the second new model for the year: 65 Millennium HT, following the other 2009 novelty of the 58 Millennium Open launched in Cannes. Otam 65 Millennium HT is the fifth model of the Italian Liguria builder and was born from the clever skills of the yards own internal technical office which was given the arduous task of rethinking the concept of a Sport Yacht in the Otam point of view. The modern and slender profile is enhanced by the original design of the windows in the hard-top, all of this underlined by a fine hull line, stretched out on the water that ensures great performance thanks to the planing hull which follows the tradition of the yard excellence of super sea keeping skills. The strong point of the 65 Millennium HT is the integration between interior and exterior, thanks to a crystal main deck patio door that slides away completely allowing one to create a main deck with a single environment with the lounge: an open space of large dimensions which when necessary can be turned back into two areas, separating outside from inside with all its conveniences. A distinctive sign of the Otam models is the bridge to port, with adjustable seats for the master and co-pilot behind which there is a comfortable and spacious couch. In this space, just as throughout the yacht, attention to detail has steered the hand and the thoughts of the designers. Soft, curvaceous lines house a corner bar equipped with a refrigerator and foldaway plasma TV system. All of this surrounded by windows that offer a full exterior view. Inside the standard accommodation plan is for three cabins all with three heads, with a c-shaped saloon, and galley. Owners stateroom is to fore, with a VIP suite located mid ship to port, and a crew or single guest cabin to starboard. Estimated performance which is always above fifty knots for any Otam's does not disappoint with the Santa Margherita 1954 founded builder estimating a 52 knots of cruising speed with twin Cats C32 Acert of 1825hp each.

Project: Corvette 340

Corvette Marine, now owned by Fleming Yachts, is introducing its second model with the new 340, a family Explorer Cruiser that is now under construction along with the improved 320 launched in mid summer. The Corvette models are now being built at the Tung Hwa boat building facility in Taiwan, along the new owners renowned Fleming's Explorer Yachts which have been built there since 1986. The new Corvette 340 will offer more interior living space, a larger flying bridge area and a more spacious aft deck than the 320. It also features an extended fiberglass swim platform. Extending the aft deck to the full width of the hull creates a large aft master stateroom that features a central double berth, and a separate head with shower stall. Forward, a second stateroom features twin berths, and a private head with shower. The beam of the 340 side decks are eighteen inches wide providing easy access to the bow from port and starboard, and the teak decking ensures sure footing. These slightly narrower decks to six inches per side versus the 320 increase the interior space of the main saloon and galley by a total of one foot making the area more spacious and allow for a twin interior helm seats. The extra width also benefits the flying bridge area, which features a double seat central located helm station. The 340 will be powered by twin Yanmar 315hp diesel engines as standard. Optional Volvo D6 330hp and Cummins QSB 330hp diesels are available as options. Hull number one is expected to debut in Southampton, in March 2010.

New Model: Magnum 51 Bestia

Each new Magnum model is always a big news and finally the US builder presents its latest 51 which the company decides to keep the title of Bestia as the 1994 50 which it replaces.  On its first sea trials the new 51 Bestia reached 64 knots, making it the fastest, large Magnum yacht ever launched.  Keeping much of the hull lines, and underwater shape from the 50 Bestia, Magnum decided to redesign the super structure and deck, giving the job to Brazilian native designer Luiz de Basto.  Taking over from Pininfarina was no easy task but De Basto did a magnificent job giving a more polished rounded modern contemporary look to the new Bestia. Just as her predecessor, the 50 Bestia, the new 51 is still and even more so a Beast due to her tremendous speed and brute power making this new Magnum an absolute thrill. Standard interiors include two options with the first being a large master cabin, salon, head and single crew cabin to fore. Another layout is a large U-shaped saloon, l-shaped galley, and head. Still these are Magnum standard plans with the builder leaving a custom independence of what one would want to do below. What Magnum will never change is its narrow deep-vee, very heavy ultra strong hull, and power which for the 51 Bestia is by twin Cats or MTU diesels of between 1600 and 1925hp each coupled to Arneson surface drives.  Top speeds as was the case for hull number one can go up to 64 knots. Needless to say here we speak of a Magnum with very impressive unbelievable seaworthiness in all weather conditions, slicing through the waves and making long crossings safely and comfortably even in rough seas.
