Project: Astondoa 50 Fly

Astondoa presents the project of the new 50 Fly. The 50 Fly will replace the 46 model, presented in the end of the nineties and being one of the successful models built by Spain's largest motor boat builder. With this project Astondoa seems set to present one of the most spacious boats for its size and type, with large cabins shown on the so far presented plans. The 50 Fly seems to challenge the competition in all areas, offering the right mix in all parts of the fifteen metre motor yacht. Flybridge space is abundant with a c-shaped settee on the aft part. Main deck follows the theme with a c-shaped saloon settee to starboard upon entrance, and the much missing in most of today's offers off a dining table for four persons to port. The lower deck impresses the most, with three double cabins, three heads, and a galley situated upon descending the stairs. Don't be mistaken but in all this Astondoa also found space for the much requested full beam owners cabin. There is also the availability of an optional crew cabin with own shower head aft. Performance and engine options has so far not been communicated, although I imagine the use of pod drives or an integrated vee drive solution, moving the engines as much as possible aft, in order to gain more space for the cabins. A similar solution to what Astondoa used on its also very spacious 44 Fly model presented in the fall of 2007.

New Model: Hunt 52

The new Hunt 52 is the flagship of this US builder offering Traditional Yacht line in elegant classic lines and large motoryacht feel with seamless integration of single-level deck and interior liveability. Featuring a natural flow from the helm to the open, bright salon through to the aft deck, the Hunt 52 layout reveals the same unobscured 360 degree views from any position. Exhaustive attention to engineering a boat which can be easily handled by one, or enjoyed by many, has led Hunt to offer features such as joystick control of bow and stern thrusters, fully mechanized dinghy garage transom with stairs, and generous swim platform for easy accessibility. All of this comes without diminishing the unparalleled rough water capability equalling to a fast, easy running, comfortable and dry ride. Interior for the Hunt Yachts new 52 flagship offers two alternative layouts dependable on the type of propulsion chosen. Standard plan is twin double cabin plan with the traditional shaft line propulsion, but with the optional IPS engine choice this can give an extra third cabin with full beam VIP statreoom. There is also the option of choosing a galley up or down solution. Engines options is a three engine choice with standard twin Cats 705hp each, up to 1001hp with traditional shaft line, or in alternative a more modern solution with Volvo 662hp and IPS forward looking pod drives.

Class 1 - Victory 1 Winner Maritimo Podium Double

After cancelling race one for the BMW Norwegian Grand Prix due to bad weather, the second race went on as scheduled seeing Victory 1 rookie driver, Mohammed Al Mehairi, to his first Class 1 win in just his second outing.
Maritimo 11 was rewarded for a stunning opening lap with second place, to take their first Class 1 podium finish, with other team boat Maritimo 12 giving further cause for celebration, taking their first podium in third place.
Championship leaders, Fazza and Qatar 96, both suffered misfortunes; Fazza stopping due to technical problems, with Qatar 96's race ending in spectacular fashion, barrel-rolling on lap seven.
The Victory duo of Vicory 1 lived up to the promise they showed in the morning's practice and qualifying session, setting the fastest time to take their first pole position, with a richly deserved win.
However, Victory 1 did not have it all their own way, when Fazza showed their pace to take the lead from their team-mates on lap six. But a technical problem ended their hopes, with Victory 1 going on to take a sensational win. The win is the ninth of Sanchez's career, but he was quick to give credit to his pilot Al Mehairi and his crew. The win takes Victory 1 to the top of the Championship standings after two rounds.
Maritimo 11 made a flying start to the race, moving up from seventh place on the second row to third at the end of the first lap. They held position until lap six when they were passed by Qatar 96, who then handed back the place a lap later, barrel-rolling in stunning fashion right in front of Maritimo 11.
Maritimo 12, made it a double celebration for the Australian team grabbing a surprising third place.
Foresti & Suardi - Roscioli Hotels' Giampaolo Montavoci and Giampiero Soave, racing together for the first time in five years, produced an impressive showing to finish in fourth place, equalling Montavoci's best ever finish in Arendal, and moving the Italian pairing into third place in the championship standings.
Despite making a good start, moving up from fourth at the start to second place at the first corner and then passing their team-mates to take the lead on lap six, an electrical problem on lap 12 ended Fazza 3 hopes of a second consecutive win, eventually finishing fifth to salvage valuable points.
For the Spirit of Qatar Team it was a race to forget. Both Qatar 95 and Qatar 96 got squeezed at the start to lose ground and it went from bad to worse, when, on lap seven, Qatar 96 barrel-rolled. On lap 11 a blown engine did for team-mates Abdullah Al-Sulaiti and Matteo Nicolini in Qatar 95 to compound a very disappointing weekend for the team.
Welmax's defending European Champion, also had a frustrating race, first throwing a propeller blade and then a technical problem on lap 13 ending their race. While Giorgioffshore, were the first to retire after an engine failure prevented them from continuing.

Projects: Riviera 85 Motor Yacht, Riviera 78 Motor Yacht, Riviera 73 Motor Yacht

Australia’s largest luxury boat builder, Riviera has announced a completely new range of Motor Yachts ranging in size from 73 to 85 feet. These new models, bearing Riviera style and build quality, will be the epitome of luxury for a few discerning owners. Riviera 73, 78 and 85 Motor Yachts extend the range of options for the dedicated Australian builder owners close and into super yacht dimensions. The new range will be built at a specialist yard in Taiwan under strict Riviera supervision with the yard’s senior management, led by a naval architect with each having more than 25 years of experience in boat building and previously working with important yacht building brand names. The first of this new three model range is the biggest of the range which enters Super Yacht status and is the Riviera 85 Motor Yacht, offering owners luxury, from a spa on the flybridge deck to two separate dining areas one formal and another casual, and crew accommodation for four in two separate cabins. The Sky Lounge features three lounges in two separate areas plus a walk-in wet bar that opens out through an awning window to the aft deck. The deck will include an optional round six-person spa with lounge seating forward and a large sun pad on the port side, with room for a 4.45-metre tender as well. A single helm seat is immediately forward of the spiral staircase linking the Sky Lounge with the saloon on the starboard side. A large sun pad adorns the foredeck in front of a three-seat lounge. Inside a stainless steel bulkhead with sliding glass door, is the main saloon with two sofas, two arm chairs aft of a wet bar with three stools, and on the port side a dining area with a table that will comfortably seat 10 people. Two steps up is the U-shape galley, equipped with four-burner stove, oven and a separate convection microwave. The galley includes full-height two-door refrigerator, full-size dishwasher and a trash compactor. Forward of the galley is an informal dinette that seats eight around an oval table. There is also a small day bathroom on this level. The accommodation suite includes four cabins, each with en-suite bathroom. The master stateroom amidships is dominated by a king-size bed with en-suite head aft and entryways on either side. Forward accommodation includes a queen double on the port side, a twin to starboard. The inner bed can slide to make a double. The forward VIP stateroom includes a queen double bed and walk-in wardrobe as well as pigeon lockers on either side. The main deck of the 85 Motor Yacht, with the addition of a walk-in wet bar and two stools on the port side. Entry to the crew quarters is via a door concealed under the starboard steps from the hydraulic swim platform to the main deck. A corridor runs around the garage, with entry to the twin cabin near the entry, with a clothes locker to starboard. Forward of the garage the corridor leads to a watertight door into the engine room. Further on, to port is the bathroom with separate shower stall, and then to the skipper’s cabin with a double bed and hanging locker. Standard engines on the Riviera 85 Motor Yacht are Caterpillar C18 turbo diesels rated at 1015hp, with options of MTU 8V rated at 1200hp or Caterpillar C32 engines rated at 1550hp.
The second of these projects is the Riviera 78 Motor Yacht, which is based on the 73 Motor Yacht hull lines but is extended throughout, with additional lounge space in the Sky Lounge to the crew accommodation. The Sky Lounge of the 78 benefits through an extension of the starboard leather lounge and a longer liquor cabinet. In the main saloon, too, the liquor cabinet area is extended and the dinette forward is a large U-shape around a square timber table. The accommodation suite is identical to the 73 forward offering four double cabins, with the additional space used to bring the crew cabin forward in front of the engine room, providing for two in a single cabin that is the same as the IPS layout of the 73 Motor Yacht. Entry to this cabin is via a door from the side deck. Standard engines on the Riviera 78 Motor Yacht are Caterpillar C18 turbo diesels rated at 1015hp. Optional engines are MTU 8V turbo diesels rated at 1200hp. The Riviera 73 Motor Yacht is a stylish and comfortable long distance cruiser, built in hand laid-up fibreglass hull, moulded in one piece with longitudinal and transverse stringers, and a gelcoat finish in white colour. The bottom section is laminated with vinylester resin for the first two layers with polyester resin for the other layers. The side shell of the hull is a sandwich cored structure, utilising infusion technology. Deck and flybridges are cored fibreglass as are floors and bulkheads. Power options include either V-Drives or triple Volvo IPS-2. The IPS version offers a slightly different dining and accommodation layout and four bathrooms. There are watertight bulkheads for engine room and chain locker. The engine room includes a reinforced fibreglass stringer system with steel channels for the foundations. Specially designed shaft tunnels provide less draft and angle to the vee drive version. The forward deck features a large sun pad, windlass as well as freshwater wash-down. The Sky Lounge is fully enclosed, with a stainless steel aft bulkhead and opening side windows. It featurees an L-shape leather lounge surrounded a timber coffee table, opposite to port side it has a wet bar with Corian benchtop, stainless steel sink, mixer tap and storage under-bench lockers. The aft deck of the flybridge is equipped with a Miele electric barbecue, refrigerator and ice maker. This open area can be used to store a tender or PWC or can be equipped with day lounges and a table. The helm is equipped with a central helm seat with companion seats on either side. The moulded and upholstered helm console includes electronic engine controls, full engine gauges with alarms, and complete electronic navigation aids. Access to the flybridge and Sky Lounge is via stairs from the aft deck or an internal spiral staircase linking from the saloon. The main saloon is a large open space including the lounge area and galley on one level. There is an option of an L-shaped dinette with fixed seating or a free standing dining table with 8 chairs. Fit out is in cherry, beech or teak timber with satin finish and high gloss horizontal surfaces. The area except for the galley is carpeted, with foam underlay. In the lounge area, three leather sofas are arranged around a large coffee table with a fourth sofa opposite. The U-shape galley has drawer fridges and freezers, a Miele four-burner cook-top with range hood, convection microwave oven, a dishwasher and a trash compactor. Through a sliding stainless steel-framed glass door from the saloon, the aft deck offers shaded outdoor entertaining with a build-in settee across the transom and a teak table with stainless steel legs. Down four steps from the deck, the hydraulic swim platform has an 800kg lift capacity. A tender garage, with electric door and electric winch, is designed to house a 3.85 metre jetrib. A companionway forward of the dinette leads to the accommodation suite. The full-beam master stateroom is amidships with a king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe, walk-in closet with cedar-lined hanging locker, selves and lights. The shaft drive configuration includes a breakfast nook on the port side below the large picture frame port lights, a vanity desk with mirror, light and drawer on the starboard side. The IPS version differs here for offering a lounge setting. On the port side aft of the stateroom is large en-suite bathroom with granite or Corian benchtop featuring his-and-hers china wash basins. The bathroom includes a separate shower stall with a seat, and two heated towel rails. Flooring is Corian or granite. The shaft drive configuration has the bathroom aft of the stateroom while the IPS configuration moves bathroom and wardrobe forward. Accommodation is completed with a second stateroom on the port side and third guest stateroom forward with a twin cabin on the starboard side. The port stateroom can be configured as a twin. All cabins feature cedar-lined closets with hanger bar and lights as well as 19-inch LCD TV with CD/DVD player and speakers. In the IPS configuration, the port stateroom is moved to starboard, forward of the twin cabin and the bathroom for the forward cabin doubles as a guest bathroom available for day guests and those in the twin cabin. New Model: Itama Sixty

The Sixty, is a new yacht from Itama, about to venture onto the seas. The Itama Engineering Department and Advanced Yacht Technology of Ferretti S.p.A., in partnership with yacht designer Marco Casali who is responsible for the boatyard’s entire range, have created a vessel that is a natural evolution of the Fiftyfive. The result is an open yacht with a decidedly sporty feel, whose strength lies in its powerful performance. This sport yacht is 18.82 metres long, and has a powerful twin MAN 1550hp engines and surface propellers, effortlessly reaching 48 knots of max speed. Its high performance is partly due to the famous 22° vee shape of the hull, a distinctive feature of this shipyard, which assures unparalleled performance thanks to the higher bow and the markedly slimmer stern. This new Sixty is a continuation of the direction taken by Itama with great success in recent years, as the company has concentrated on ideas that really make the most of the available space. On-board liveability, the optimisation of interior exterior spaces, and the feeling of freedom during navigation are the distinctive traits of Itama's. The first thing you notice is the spacious cockpit which not only has a large sunbathing area but also incorporates an open air pull-out table and a comfortable sofa next to the cockpit area complete with front-facing seats and chaise-longue. The glass windshield an important stylistic and technological detail typical of Itama vessels not only gives added rake to the boat’s profile, but also creates total protection inside the cockpit without reducing direct contact with the sea. Another sophisticated feature is the choice of materials used from the carbon finish dashboard, to the helm made from stainless steel, and high quality teak. The electrohydraulic canopy, successfully introduced on the Fiftyfive, will stand up to any weather conditions. Offering total protection of the dinette when closed, it can be opened so that passengers can fully appreciate life onboard the yacht. Getting the most out of your boat also means appreciating all of its functions, and in this regard the Itama Sixty has an interesting new feature compared to the Fiftyfive, reflecting the constant search for solutions designed to increase onboard comfort. There is a central walkway on the transom which acts as a tender lift for easy handling of the jet ski or tender. Last but not least, access to the engine room is extremely convenient, with the option of entering via the afterpeak or from the crew cabin. Apart from the classic layout of the interior, what is instantly apparent is the meticulous styling and carefully-selected materials used in the strikingly contemporary interior. The shipyard has chosen to focus its attention on the owner by providing two choices of below deck finish: white lacquer, for an airier, maritime feel, or the warmth and elegance of walnut. The standard layout of the Itama Sixty comprises 3 cabins and 3 en-suite bathrooms, plus a convenient kitchen diner. The crew cabin is optional and features an entirely new design compared to the Fiftyfive, to make way for the larger propulsion units. It has a separate stern entry guaranteeing maximum privacy onboard, and of course there is direct access to the engine room through the watertight door. Great 48 knots top speed performance, a racing spirit and elegantly customised interior are qualities that make the new Itama Sixty an avant garde design that perfectly combines power and unbridled contact with the sea.

Project: Sessa C38

Sessa present the project for the new C38, a hard top sport cruiser set to be presented in September replacing the C35 model after ten years of production and over five hundred deliveries. The task for the new C38 seems already hard to match, but the premises shown from the above renderings and Sessa research into quality and a desire for continuous improvement, will surely make this another success for the North Italian boat builder which has become a point of reference in the nautical industry. Designer Christian Grande presents a project with linear structure and the importance of light through large glass panelling, characteristics that are part of Sessa's unique new C68 flagship, which will also be found in the C38 and followed suit in all future projects. One of the key points for the C38 is the optimization of the internal space allowing it to have one of the biggest bathrooms in its class as well as an independent owner's cabin and an aft cabin with two separate beds that can be made into a large double. A key innovative design feature of this yacht is a large number of windows and portholes, helping to reduce the structural barriers and allowing you to get closer to the sea. Another interesting element are the two galleys, an internal one designed by a famous Italian kitchen designer and another external one, found in the cockpit, with minibar, counter and stove. Like her larger sisters, the C38 will also be equipped with a modern electrically opening Hard Top to ensure the highest degree of comfort when cruising. A large swim platform at the stern where one can stow a larger than normal tender, dedicated tanning zones, chaise lounges, sofas and an automobile styled helm station are only some of the details that make this yacht unique. The yacht will be presented during the Cannes boat show and available with twin Volvo D4 300hp stern drive with the option of a joystick control to facilitate manoeuvring while docking. She will be available in either bronze, navy blue, squid black, or white. Impressive to say that despite the financial crisis Sessa will go to the fall of the year boat show season with a complete set of three new models.

New Model: Maritimo A60 Aegean Enclosed

The enclosed flybridge is probably the first thing you’ll notice about the stunning new A60 Aegean Enclosed. Whether cruising at the helm or anchored at a favourite hideaway, the elevated position offers exclusive views of the seascape, with wide sliding doors aft opening to a unique balcony setting, making the enclosed flybridge a second entertainment area where one can relax indoors and out, or simply enjoy cruising in total protection from the elements. The A60 Aegean Enclosed but does not want only to go further in style and luxury, it also wants to offer a genuine long-range cruising capabilities. Designed with an advanced variable deadrise hull, engines and fuel tanks over the centre of buoyancy, and a minuscule shaft angle of just nine degrees, the A60 Aegean Enclosed has effortless balance, and is incredibly fuel-efficient as a result. Maritimo is expecting a similar performance to the standard A60 Aegean with twin C12 715hp Cats giving a reliable 25 knots cruise. Not bad considering the higher wind drag of the enclosed bridge, thirty tons of weight, 5600 litres of full fuel load, and really small sized engines for the eighteen meter of length.

Class 1 - Arendal Norway Preview

Jorn Tandberg, the defending European Champion, will be hoping to break the Middle East dominance in Class 1 when he starts the defence of his title in next weekend's BMW Norwegian Grand Prix in Arendal, 17-19, July, where 40 points will be up for grabs as the UIM WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship introduces a two race Grand Prix format for the first time.
Tandberg, a two-times winner in 2008, will line up in the Mercury V8-powered Welmax, as he chases down a third win on home waters in four years and looks to kick-start his season after a broken drive shaft ended his race in Qatar.
As the on-water battle for supremacy between V8 and V12 power-plants intensifies, the overwhelming threat to a second consecutive win for Tandberg in Arendal lies with the in-form Victory and Spirit of Qatar camps.
Fazza, who won in Arendal in 2007, struck the first blow in the 2009 title race in Qatar, are currently enjoying an unprecedented trouble free run in a race boat that has not missed a beat in over two seasons and look to be the team to beat.
Team mate in Victory 1, throttle man Jean-Marc Sanchez also a winner in Arendal, will have other ideas, and will be looking to break his long run of podium finishes nine from ten starts with a win.
The Spirit of Qatar crews will also have their eyes on the main prize in Arendal, but on each other as well, as their in-house fight for supremacy again V8 over V12, and bragging rights intensifies. Qatar 95 grabbed their maiden Edox Pole Position win last time out, but saw the hard work undone, a win vanish after stopping mid race and their team mates take second place. Both outfits have modified their boats and tested recently; confident the gremlins have been fixed. Steve Curtis believes that he and Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani will be very quick in Arendal, but admits they will have to push hard and up their game, as they look for their first win together in Qatar 96 since teaming up in 2008.
With one or two driver line-ups changing and to be finalised, the tussle amongst the middle order is hard to gauge; Giorgioffshore has enjoyed a run of good results in recent outings, a podium at the end of 2008 and a fifth in Qatar, and looks set to continue. Giampaolo Montavoci will be joined in Foresti & Suardi - Roscioli Hotels by fellow Italian, Giampiero Soave, making just his second start in Class 1, he made his debut with Montavoci in the Portuguese Grand Prix in Lisbon in 2004, whilst Domenico Cirilli's pairing of Abdelkader and Carpitella in C.A.M is still be confirmed.
Maritimo Australia has been busy working frantically on both their charges to fix the handling and technical issues that blighted their return to Class 1 at the season opener and limited their time on the water. Both crews will be desperate to produce a solid points' finish; Maritimo 12's throttleman, Peter McGrath, is optimistic that the modifications have got them 80% of the way to where they should be and now it's just a case of more time in the boat with his new driver, Giorgio Manuzzi. Whilst Tom Barry-Cotter will be hoping that the success he has enjoyed racing in Australia, successfully defending his Australian Offshore Superboat title will start to carry over into Class 1 in Maritimo 11.
The Arendal course, run inside the narrow fjords, is one of the most spectacular, challenging and demanding on the Class 1 circuit, and for all the pilots and technicians the twelfth Grand Prix to be run in Arendal presents a new challenge, as Class 1 introduces a restructured race-weekend and two race Grand Prix format for the first time, where success or failure in race 1 will impact hugely on the outcome in race 2.
The new format, warmly welcomed by the teams and all of Class 1's Grand Prix Organisers, will see first official practice taking place on Friday afternoon, with an extended one-and-a-half hour session on Saturday morning for official practice and qualifying in the Edox Pole Position, with no limit to the number of timed laps, followed by race 1 in the afternoon, 50.85 nautical miles made up of 9 laps including one long lap.
A third official practice session on Sunday morning will be followed by race 2 in the afternoon with the starting line-up determined by the results of race 1 and 68.21Nm, run over 12 laps, including two long laps. Both races count for full championship points.
