Sportfish Yacht Sinks in Pensacola Pass

A sixteen meter sportfish yacht with nine persons onboard sank while entering the Pensacola Pass, on the morning of ninth June just after 1030 hours.  The yacht hit the USS Massachusetts artificial reef located one an half miles which in low tide is tricky and a navigational hazard, damaging its starboard rudder, and prop shaft to take on water and started sinking.  Hearing the MayDay Pensacola Coast Guard sent a thirteen meter Response Boat which was patrolling the area, who assisted the crew in just ten minutes after the call, and led all nine persons to safety.  The sportfish located near the Massachusetts still partly floating was a navigational hazard and was reported as lost on the twelfth July, that is until the yacht finally was found and salvaged on the morning of fourteenth July. 
The sportfish in this sinking is a second generation Ocean Yachts 50 Super Sport, released in 2004 and still offered today.  The 50 Super Sport replaced the best selling 48 and became popular for its three cabins layout, and comfortable medium-V hull shape closing at 15.5 degrees.  The Ocean Yachts 50 Super Sport is standard powered with twin Cats 715hp, optional up to 1015hp, reaching speeds up to 35 knots with the last large engine option.

Yacht Fire in Papagayo Costa Rica

A motor yacht of about 22 meters in length caught fire while at anchor in Playa Panama, Guanacaste, Costa Rica on the afternoon of ninth July.  The fire was reported as starting in the engine room with the yacht fully flame engulfed in about five minutes.  The yacht was fully destroyed by the fire and later on sank.  The guests on the yacht are reported to having sustained no injuries and being safe.
The yacht in this fire is an Astondoa 72 GLX produced from 1998 to 2007.  Designed by Nuvolari Lenard the Astondoa 72 GLX was a popular yacht for the Spanish builder, due to its nice design and spacious four cabins lower deck and open galley layout.  Astondoa 72 GLX are powered by twin Man 1200hp with later units featuring the larger 1360hp engines.  About forty plus first generation 72 GLX where made, replaced by the Christian Gatto designed 76 GLX in 2008, with a second generation 72 GLX released in 2014.

New Model: Fipa Maiora 30 Convertible

Maiora present the new 30 Convertible.  Based on hull lines of the successful 30 Walkaround, the 30 Convertible is the enclosed sky-lounge top deck, which includes the pilot house and an entertainment lounge area up top.  Fully wide body the sky-lounge offers fifty square meters of space featuring a dinette for ten persons, and relaxing sofa lounge.  The sleeping accommodation in the 30 Convertible offers five guest cabins with an owners suite on the forward part of the main deck.  Three crew cabins sleeping five or six persons are located forward of the lower deck.  The Maiora 30 Convertible is powered by twin MTU 2600hp engines which give her a top speed up to 28 knots, and a cruise of 22.

Performance Cruiser Ends On Reef in Garda Lake

A ten meter sport cruiser with two persons onboard ended on top of the Altare reef, near the Garda Island to the South-West of Lake Garda, on the night of seventh July just after 2300 hours.  Immediate the assistance of the Lake Garda Coast Guard which deployed two craft, the new Rescuerunner designed for shallow waters operation and GC A58 boats for help.  The rescue operation was difficult on the night due to the bad weather conditions, with winds up to 25 knots which generated waves over one meters in height, and consistent rain making visibility tricky.  With a synergetic operation of the two boats, Rescuerunner retrieved the two persons from the ten meter sport cruiser who then later put them on GC A58.  After a medical check up both crew appeared in good health and where released. 
The sport cruiser in this accident is a Performance 1001.  Released in 2020 as an evolution of the 907 produced since the nineties, the 1001 was extended aft with the bathing platform and features a modified cockpit layout.  Accommodation is for four, with a double berth forward and a convertible dinette to starboard.  Performance as the title says are high performing sport-cruiser powerboat mix which offer with the large engine option always speed around fifty knots.

Italcraft Beached and Destroyed in Rome Beach

A eleven meter Italcaft classic motor cruiser named Masianello with two persons on board was beached on the sandy beach of Passoscuro, some nautical miles to the North of Fiumicino on the morning of Thursday seven July.  The boat left Fiumicino Fiumara river before her engines gave up and the boat ended up beached.  The classic flybridge cruiser was two days later on the morning of Saturday ninth June demolished, some say unfairly while other saying there was nothing much to do because part the wooden construction was weakened in a storm the previous night.  The Masianello was reportedly purchased in May by the current owner.
This  Italcraft is an X-33 model built in 1972.  Introduced in 1969, after two years of prototype testing the X-33 is somewhat a scaled down version of the X-44, offering a lower deck sleeping four; double Vee-berth forward and two bunk berths with separate cabin to starboard.  Sold in 42 units the X-33 was build of lamellar construction, glued plywood sheets with longitude and transverse reinforcements.  A sport open X-33 Diplomat version was also made selling in twenty units.  Deep-V hull fore to aft the X-33 was powered by twin diesels Perkins 160, 190hp or Aifo 220hp, and Chrysler petrol with line shaft propulsion. The X-33 was replaced by the innovative and fiberglass built 36 Aermar in 1976.
Italcraft was a pioneer in fast hull shapes, called the factory of dreams, building the first Deep-Vee boat in Europe, and being the first with the help of Renato Sonny Levi to introduce the Variable deep-Vee shape, propeller tunnels, and fixed surface drives in the seventies.  Other firsts by Italcraft include the first production boat built with Carbon and Kevlar fibers.

Motor Yacht Sinks and Destroyed in North Corsica

An Italian flagged nineteen meter Sanlorenzo motor yacht with three persons onboard sank when hitting various reefs in the Desert Agriates, in North Corsica on the morning of seventh July.  Immediate assistance to the crew onboard the yacht came from the French coast guard Agriates 2 rib, with a ship which was in the area also helping in the operation to take the three persons to safety.  Following this the coast guard with assistance from SNSM diving crew tried to remove the vessel from the reefs with no luck, which with the strong winds and rough seas of the night and following day and the yacht stuck into between reefs destroying it into various parts.  According to initial investigation no pollution was generated from the accident.
The yacht in this accident is a Sanlorenzo 62, designed by Franco Dellarolle and produced from 1994 to 99.  The Sanlorenzo 62 offered three double cabins, with one crew cabin aft, and an Italian style main deck with separate galley behind the pilot house and is powered by twin Man 1100hp, which give speeds up to 31 knots.  The 62 was Sanlorenzo entry level model, replacing the 57 on which it is based and was also the first SL with the sloop stern, later added to all the models.  The 62 also had a 1997 evolution with the central mast replaced by the integrated radar arch.  Over twenty units of the 62 where made with Sanlorenzo building only to order and about ten boats per year.  Sanlorenzo reintroduced a redesigned SL62 with different stern in 2005 produced till 2014. 

New Model: Mimi Libeccio 8.5 Walkaround

Helped by yacht designer Valerio Rivellini Mimi shipyard reinvents the Libeccio 8.5 Walkaround model, and compared to the previous WA now offers a more livable space. The new Mimi Libeccio 8.5 Walkaround, has also been added with a separate bathroom in the lower deck, which with the double berth make the interior suitable for overnight stays for two persons. The external spaces revolve around the walkaround and feature two fore and aft sunbathing areas, and the possibility of outside dining thanks to a large extendable U-shaped dinette which doubles in size with the flip over table. The Mimi Libeccio 8.5 Walkaround is powered by a single 250hp engine giving her a top speed up to thirty knots.

Project: Sundeck 400 Inboard

Following the success of the 430, Sundeck present the project for a new entry level 400 model, what the Italian builder calls an all-weather, seaworthy sport cruiser that fills the needs of both the cruiser and fisherman alike, and to be available in both inboard stern drive or twin or triple outboard power. The Sundeck 400 can be a great day boat too, suitable as a getaway weekender, thanks to the two staterooms and head below deck. As with all Sundeck, the configuration and design of the space and furnishings can be custom built to complement an owners boating lifestyle. For example the aft large cockpit can be made in an open uncluttered layout for the blue water fishing enthusiast, fitted with rod holders, outriggers, with the walk-around deck adding to the capabilities of landing fish. The central helm station and cockpit lounge are protected by the fiberglass hardtop, offering shade and protecting both the passengers and equipment from the elements. The 400 features also a first for Sundeck, offering a twin step performance hull which powered by the large triple Mercury 400hp outboards on the Outboard version can reach top speeds up to fifty knots.  For the Sundeck 400 Inboard, standard power is twin Volvo 380hp, and or optional 440hp couple duo-prop stern drives, with this last option giving max speed up to forty knots.

New Launch: Bayliss 75 B27

Bayliss have launched the full custom 75 hull number B27 titled Wave Paver.  As the second build for her owner, Wave Paver will be joining a long-standing and successful fishing program on the tournament circuit, with the original Wave Paver Bayliss 77 hull no. B21 launched in 2017. This is the first Bayliss to feature walnut veneer, and and is the result of a 28 month build process. The combination of the details, the wood species, the granite, and the interior soft goods all combined to make this build a stunning project to date.  Bayliss 75 is powered with twin MTU 2600hp engines which gave her a top speed of 44 knots on sea trial day.

Riva Yacht Saved from Fire in Novigrad

A 21 meter Riva motor yacht was saved from a fire in Novigrad on the early evening of 4 July, in Novigrad Croatia.  The Riva motor yacht was berthed in its berth in Novigrad, a sea side town located on the Northern part of Croatia just a couple nautical miles away from Slovenia, when a fire broke out in the galley located on the main deck.  With the fire reported the Riva was towed immediately away from the harbor, and after the fire was controlled and turned off the yacht was berthed back in its place later on that night.  This same Riva was apparently involved in a reef accident in Cervar some two years ago, damaging its P-brackets, rudders and parts of the bottom aft hull in the process.
The Riva is this accident is a 21 Dolcevita produced from 1997 till 2004, and comes from a design of head designer Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana.  The Riva 21 Dolcevita offered guest accommodation in three double cabins, with a rare option of four cabins, and two crew cabins. The 21 Dolcevita was powered at first by twin Mtu 1150hp engines, with the engines upgraded to 1300hp Man in later units.  Over twenty 21 Dolcevita where made in a seven year production run, with the model replaced by the larger more yacht 75 Venere in 2005.
