A not attended eight meter Sea Ray sport cruiser went ablaze while berthed on its pontoon berth in the Coomera River, South East region of Queensland, Australia, just before 10:30 morning time of Wednesday fourth December.  Emergency services quickly attended the fire scene as the boat was also very close to nearby residencies, as the huge plum of black smoke rose and made residing people scramble the phone for help.  Fire department responded quickly to the fire, which also destroyed a small rib tender.  The owner of the boat who was at his work place during the fire, was notified and rushed to the scene to find his boat semi sunk and destroyed.  The police are investigating the fire, though they say it looks to be unsuspicious.

Azimut Signs New Partnership in North East Italy

A new partnership to elevate the shipowner experience in North-West Italy: service excellence, shared know-how and a tailor-made approach to a strategic market.  Azimut has entrusted Kora Marine with exclusive dealership for the brand in North-West Italy, a strategic area for the Shipyard due to the combination of nautical tradition, advanced infrastructure and international clients with high investment potential.  The choice to appoint Kora Marine, a new company based in Santa Margherita Ligure, as an exclusive partner follows from careful evaluation by Azimut. The Shipyard recognized in the new company a highly qualified representative for the development and management of the local market. Francesco Montanella, a professional with solid experience in the nautical sector who worked within the Azimut sales office as Asia-Pacific Sales Manager, leads Kora Marine. His deep knowledge of the brand and the reference market combines with a consolidated background in the premium automotive segment and substantial experience with high-end clientele. These are the reasons Azimut entrusted Kora Marine with exclusive representation in an extremely important area for the Shipyard.  Regions such as Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Lombardy, Liguria and Tuscany constitute a strategic basin for Italian shipyards and beyond, and, above all, for Azimut, which has its historic headquarters in this territory, with numerous boats moored along the coast and a growing demand for premium services.  Azimut and Kora Marine share the goal of strengthening the Shipyard’s presence in a high demand area and enhancing relationships with clients by offering comprehensive support that ranges from consultancy in selecting the right yacht to after-sales assistance. Among the strategic drivers of this synergy is also the desire to leverage the solid know-how Montanella has developed in the automotive sector, with the aim of bringing to the yachting world the same level of service excellence, attention to detail, and tailor-made approach that have always characterized high-end automotive. This shared vision is further reinforced by the presence of like-minded stakeholders, united by high expectations and a strong appreciation for quality and personalized experiences.  “The expansion of our sales network with the creation of Kora Marine and the signing of this dealership is a strategic step for Azimut. North-West Italy is a market of fundamental importance, and this collaboration will allow us to be even closer to owners, guaranteeing them excellent service, in line with the philosophy of our brand,” said Enrico Chiaussa, Azimut Chief Commercial Officer EMEA-APAC.  “This partnership marks the evolution of a journey that began years ago with Azimut, which today opens to a new business reality with the birth of Kora Marine. Our goal is to offer an exclusive and tailor-made experience, blending local knowledge with an innovative approach to service. By combining the best of yachting, hospitality and premium automotive, we want to redefine the concept of excellence in the industry. In synergy with Azimut, we aspire to become the benchmark for owners and enthusiasts, accompanying them with expertise, dedication and a long-term vision at every stage of their journey. We are proud to represent a Made in Italy excellence like Azimut, a shipyard that combines innovation, style and craftsmanship, bringing to the world the authenticity of Italian know-how,” affirmed Francesco Montanella, Owner of Kora Marine.

Why? No one wanted to miss the exciting opportunity of a shakedown trip to Ireland! Led by newly launched Dale 40 ‘Sans Rival’, and joined by Dale Classic 37 ‘Magic’ (formerly ‘Valegro’), the growing flotilla made the crossing together.  Joining the journey were Mike, Moss, Stevie, and Jeremy, along with renowned marine photographer Richard Langdon, who took on the challenge of capturing all five Dales together on the water a rare and remarkable sight.  This return to Neyland, supported by our team, offered owners the unique opportunity to reconnect, refresh their boats, and set off on the season’s first adventure together, a true reflection of our ‘Lifetime Commitment’ promise. Fairline Sold to New Investors

Fairline has been bought by Bronzewood Capital, a private-equity arm of turnaround specialist Buchler Phillips. The deal includes all the brand assets and tooling but not the Oundle factory, which it will continue to rent from the current landlord, nor Fairline Yachts and its outstanding liabilities.  A new holding company has been registered at Companies House called Fairline Holdco Limited, although we understand that going foward the business itself will just be known as Fairline.  Crucially, the deal secures Fairline’s status as a British based boat manufacturer and should mean the remaining 240 employees will continue to build and develop new boats in Oundle for the foreseeable future.  New owner, Bronzewood Capital, specialises in distressed businesses with turnovers in the £5m to £50m range. It is headed by David Buchler, a founding partner of Buchler Phillips. Buchler, himself, is a serial boat owner as well as an experienced marine industry executive, having been a long-term director-investor in Ventura Yachts, the distributor for Ferretti Group brands in the UK and Spain. Buchler has also had spells as the vice-chairman of Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur and English National Opera. He is supported in Bronzewood by Robin Southwell, a former CEO of Airbus UK.

I’ve always marvelled at the allure of the yachts, hoping I would one day represent such refined craftsmanship. The enthusiasm of the Fairline team is infectious and it’s evident that with its current offering and yet more developments in the pipeline, that there’s exciting times ahead for the brand and its customers,” said Rob. “Fairline’s wide range perfectly suits the diverse climates and cruising grounds of California with the advanced docking technology and impeccable sea-handling capabilities catering to yachting enthusiasts of all skill levels. “Our wealth of experience in delivering and supporting luxury yachts ensures that prospective owners are in the best hands with their Fairline purchase. Georg Frauscher is taking over responsibility for the company's management with a focus on production, continuing to run the family business in the fourth generation. He succeeds his father Michael Frauscher, who has played a key role in the development of the company over the past 40 years.  Georg Frauscher has been with the company since 2022 and, in addition to his extensive professional knowledge, he brings with him the spirit that makes the “engineers of emotions” so successful. “I feel ready for this new role and look forward to continuing the Frauscher success story together with our team. We have big plans,” says the new Managing Director of Production.  Michael Frauscher, son of Hans Frauscher, will remain associated with the company. In his new role as “Head of Design”, he will focus entirely on the development of new products and boat designs.  The roles of Andrea Frauscher-Oberfrank, Managing Director - Frauscher Hafen, Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director - Marketing & Sales and Andreas Ahamer, Managing Director - Controlling & Purchasing, will remain unchanged. The trusted team will optimally support and accompany the generational change at management level.

Frauscher Espana Management Change

There has also been a change of management at the company's Spanish subsidiary: Florian Helmberger, the long-standing sales director and authorised signatory of the Frauscher shipyard, is additionally taking over the management of the company from Stefan Frauscher and will continue to drive forward the future development of the international site.  "Frauscher España SL has been a real success story since it was founded in 2012 and is responsible for 20-30% of the shipyard’s total turnover every year. With the additional location in Puerto Portals, which supports our existing location in Port Adriano and the winter storage facility in Son Oms, we will further expand our presence in Mallorca. I am delighted that the shareholders have placed their trust in me for this additional role!", Florian Helmberger.   With these personnel changes, the Frauscher shipyard is setting the course for a successful future based on tradition, innovation and a clear vision for the coming years.

Maritimo Muster 2025 New Zealand

The last weekend of March just saw the hosting of another fabulous Maritimo Muster, this time in New Zealand. It provided an opportunity to bring together a fleet of magnificent Maritimo Luxury Motor Yachts, their owners, family and friends to experience the warm hospitality of Man O’ War Winery, and other fun filled activities on the agenda.  With the twenty plus vessels and 110 participants that signed up for the event, the plan was for two groups, an early departure on the Saturday morning from Westhaven Marina for those that wanted a leisurely 8 knot toddle for the 3-hour voyage, then followed by those who would depart later as part of the 20 knot steamers. Why do it in three hours if you can do it in less than half the time. Right?  Leaving Westhaven Marina and heading east takes voyagers through the Hauraki Gulf, which boasts an area of around four thousand square kilometres, and stretches from the Auckland Region, the Hauraki Plains, the Coromandel Peninsula, and Great Barrier Island. Most of the Gulf is part of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.  The planned journey to Waiheke Island is mostly well protected and is home to many small islands, which offer magnificent scenery en route. The Man O’ War Winery is located on the eastern side of Waiheke Island, which is the second largest island in the region with a population of over nine thousand permanent residents, and as such is the third most populated island in New Zealand.  But don’t let the name Man O’ War Winery alarm you, it’s named after the Jewel that it looks across Man O’ War Bay. There’s absolutely no ‘agro’ here. and only the warmest of New Zealand hospitality provided by everyone at this family owned and operated 4,500 acre farm, vineyard and winery with over seventy-five vineyards across the farm and specialising in Bordeaux Blends. There is also an abundance of orchards, olive groves, restored native forests and beehives.  Danny Jordin, Maritimo’s Australasian Sales Manager, has just returned from the event and shared some of his experiences of the weekend. “I guess this was our first opportunity to put together something on behalf of Maritimo in New Zealand. It was great to be able to show that we support our clients, and we truly appreciate that they support the Maritimo product and brand in New Zealand. The response from owners was absolutely amazing. They clearly love their Maritimos, and share stories about how capable and how well suited the Maritimo vessels are for the New Zealand environs,” Jordin added.  “When we released the event and started to go out to our consultants to reach out to their clients, we thought well if we got eight to ten boats then this would be great outcome and it would be a goer. Well, we actually had 31 boats register, and after a few cancellations as happens with busy diaries, we ended up with over 20 vessels. That equated to about 110 people and we had a capacity of 120 at the winery for catering purposes. Perfect.”     “The attendees loved creating new relationships with the other Maritimo owners. They’re all like-minded people and they’ve all got similar interests. This was a great opportunity where they could take their boat and a couple of friends or family members to meet up with other Maritimo owners. We had two or three boats that had rafted up that knew each other, and other boats that then joined them and didn’t know each other initially. They were all moving from boat to boat, mixing and mingling, with little parties everywhere. The weekend really provided an opportunity to create some future long-term friendships. We really set out to make it a low key, relaxed affair, and that definitely shone through.”  “We received so many positive messages from Maritimo owners and their guests on our WhatsApp group, saying how they loved the weekend and that they’ll be signing right up for the next one,” Jordin said.  “I did hear also there were a few owners that are talking about doing a Fiji trip next year, and I can guarantee you that if it was initially two or three boats planning that, well, after this event, there’s going be a lot more that end up doing that trip, because they’ll all stay in contact now. They’ve formed great relationships, and they’ll do more voyages together.”  “The clients love this Maritimo Muster format of a one, two or three-day event, as it’s so relaxed. We get all our teams involved. We had our Maritimo Factory Representatives there, we had 36 Degrees Brokers and also Ownership Consultants attend. So, a real tour de force. We’re definitely going to run this NZ event, again, at a similar time next year, and we hope to organise something else some in another time of the year as well, so we have a couple of events in the diary to catch up with owners and bring them together to say thanks.”  “Of course, we’ve always supported our clients, but this event totally reinforces that we’re here to support them and to look after them, whether that be after sales or upgrades, or for the time when they are ready move into a new model Maritimo,” Jordin said in closing.

Exteta and Riva have launched an exclusive collaboration that is the epitome of contemporary elegance.  Exteta x Riva is the new outdoor furniture collection that transforms any living space into the ultimate stylish experience, injecting the iconic allure of yachting into the world of interior design.  Designed by Massimo Castagna, the collection draws its inspiration from Riva’s most authentic soul, its heritage and history spanning over 180 years. Every detail bears witness to the fine expertise that has permeated every creation of Italina shipyard since 1842, from the legendary symbol of the “dolce vita” of the 1960s to the technological innovation and the full-custom approach that have underpinned the brand's most recent evolution. The epitome of sophisticated and timeless style, Riva has shaped a whole lifestyle of its own, both on and off the sea.  It is this very approach that aligns perfectly with Exteta, a company that has redefined the concept of the outdoors crafting products of the highest quality in terms of materials and workmanship. The elegant design and superb craftsmanship that are the hallmarks of the legendary Riva motorboats are embodied in the Exteta collections, so that together they deliver a fresh take on the nautical experience.  Exteta x Riva encompasses a complete range of furnishings, designed to enhance both the most refined residential settings as well as yacht decks.  An ode to the sea, to beauty, to the art of living: this is Exteta x Riva.  Seating elements, upholstered furniture, tables, complementary items and accessories: the versatility of the collection brings a touch of refined conviviality to any setting, creating lounge nooks, places to relax and dining areas where the outdoors can be savoured in total ease. Each element boasts the Riva style, starting with the materials: from the prized sapele mahogany, masterfully crafted with its iconic glossy finish to the shining and vibrant stainless steel accents. The sofas stand out for their sculptural design, with full volumes and generous padding, seemingly suspended on feet that raise them slightly, to create a sophisticated illusion of weightlessness. Its modules can accommodate a wide range of seating arrangements, while two different types of armrests ensure maximum versatility: padded, with a slightly curved shape, or in wood, with a wide, elongated armrest that brings to mind the sophisticated contours of Riva yachts.  This unique attribute is also echoed in the lounge chair and director's chair, two designs that are more essential and lightweight, but no less comfortable thanks to their deep, padded seats.  The sense of harmony conveyed by the combination of wood and stainless steel is also a feature of the dining table (available in two sizes) and coffee tables, with their wood tops with parallel slats. Adding the finishing touch is the wireless stainless steel lamp, a smart detail that adds subtle lighting to any setting.

Powered by two electric engines, the vessel enjoys a continuous supply of clean energy, ensuring a smooth and sustainable e-motoring experience.  The 60 Sunreef Power Eco also boasts a dedicated ultralight battery bank, enabling silent, vibration-free cruising. Designed for a truly 360° sustainable journey, it incorporates eco-conscious features such as energy-efficient air conditioning and environmentally responsible finishing materials—setting a new standard in green yachting.

Sunreef Introduces Solar Skin 3.0

Sunreef Yachts continues to lead the way in luxury and sustainability with the introduction of Solar Skin 3.0. As part of a broader design evolution across its new catamaran lineup, this cutting-edge solar system marks a bold step toward smarter, more sustainable yachting.  The launch of Solar Skin 3.0 builds on Sunreef’s legacy, delivering a refined and highly efficient solution that significantly reduces the carbon footprint of each vessel.  The previous generation, Solar Skin 2.0, was already recognized for its industry-leading performance, offering 24.8% efficiency and exceptional thermal stability—capable of operating at temperatures above 100°C and compatible with dark paint finishes. It also featured impressive resistance to micro cracking, having been durability-tested over 20,000 load cycles, and incorporated RFID chips in each panel for seamless diagnostics and maintenance.  The newly launched Solar Skin 3.0 elevates this innovation even further. It introduces intelligent yield optimization, using advanced algorithms to adjust electrical output in real-time, especially in areas affected by complex shading from sails or rigging.    The layout of the solar system has been designed using machine learning algorithms to optimize panel placement, ensuring maximum energy efficiency tailored to real-world usage. Additionally, the bimini areas of the new catamarans are now equipped with next-generation photovoltaic cells specifically optimized for shaded environments, further enhancing energy generation even under less-than-ideal lighting conditions.  This is more than just an upgrade—it’s a visionary leap toward the future of yachting.

Viking 61 Years Anniversary

Viking celebrate its 61st anniversary. Brothers Bill and Bob Healey founded Viking on April 1, 1964, starting with just an unheated shed with dirt floors on the banks of the Bass River. By adhering to the Viking mantra of building a better boat every day, Viking has risen to the top of the marine industry as the leading manufacturer of semi-custom sportfishing yachts and high-performance outboard boats, all produced in a combined one million square feet of manufacturing space. Always moving forward, Viking has grown into a family of eight companies within the Viking Marine Group, all still owned and operated by the Healey family.  The Viking Legacy film captures the essence of our company, telling our story like never before. Click above to watch the 12-minute film, released last year to commemorate our 60th anniversary.

Viking Key West Challenge 2025

It's called a "challenge," but succeeding in this tournament is incredibly easy: Just have fun! The Viking Key West Challenge (VKWC) seems to get better every year, bringing more good times, smiling faces and family enjoyment. The 2025 event, held from April 9 to 13, featured 50 boats and over 500 guests.   “We want to thank all of you for being here – it was another unbelievable four days,” Viking President and CEO Pat Healey said at the Awards Dinner at the Opal Key Sunset Pier. “The fishing was good, the parties were even better and the friendship, camaraderie and fellowship were over the top. That’s what it’s all about – coming together and having a good time and doing what we love.”  The fleet featured Vikings ranging from 46 to 90 feet and Valhallas from 37 to 55 feet. Anglers released 168 sailfish over the two days of fishing and the Spot Zero Weigh Station was thumping as excited anglers brought their catches – tuna, cobia, dolphin, kingfish and the tournament’s first-ever pompano – to the scales.  Presented by Christi Insurance Group and Travelers Insurance, this year’s Viking Key West Challenge saw the Viking 61 Right Choice repeat as the Grand Champion and Top Boat in the Sailfish category, releasing 12 sails and boating a cobia. In Second Place was the Valhalla 55 Wingman II with 10 sailfish releases, followed in Third Place by Pipe Dreamer, a Viking 70, with eight.  Right Choice angler Lucie Kapusta won Top Angler with eight releases, as well as Top Female Angler. Second went to Brad VandenBerg on Wingman II with a half dozen sailfish releases and a kingfish. Christina Henry on the Valhalla 37 Rehab took Third Place Angler with five releases.  In the tuna category, Guy Lanciano aboard the 58 On A Roll took First. Jessika Gonzalez on the 90 Zatara won First Place for dolphin, while Richard Battaglia on The Interview, a 68, and Al West Jr. on the 72 Tami Ann captured First for kingfish and Cobia, respectively. Rob Lopez on The Provider, an 80, took First for bottom fish.   The youngsters are always the stars of the show. This year it was 11-year-old Hayden Rickman – never without his cowboy hat – and his brother Kamden, 7, who stole the crowd. Hayden earned Top Junior Angler for four sailfish releases aboard the family’s Viking 48 Dear Rodeo. This was the first time the Rickmans have participated in the Challenge. “We’ve just had a tremendous time,” said a proud Joby Rickman after his son received his award, with Kamden by his side for a photograph with Pat Healey. “Everyone has been so nice and has made us feel so welcome. I can’t say enough about this event,” added mom, Leslie Rickman. “We love being part of the Viking family, and we aren’t going anywhere. We are already talking about moving up to a bigger Viking.”  Although not a money tournament, the Viking Key West Challenge has great partners who gave away some incredible prizes – almost $40,000 worth. In a drawing, the top prize of a GOST Global Tracking and Security Monitoring package worth $7,500 went to Sea Hawk, a Viking 90; a Spot Zero Mobile Pro Unit valued at $7,000 went to 1st Place team Right Choice; and a $6,000 Switlik Coastal Passage Raft was awarded to Top Angler Lucie Kapusta. Prizes were also from FLIR, Simrad, Seatronx, Garmin, Furuno, Icom, KVH, SiriusXM, Yeti, Airmar and others.  The teams travelled to the southernmost point of the U.S. to compete in an event that is “More Than Just Fishing!” The festivities began on Wednesday evening at Dante’s Key West with registration, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and the Captains’ Meeting. “We have the best owners and the best boats in the world,” said Pat. Friday’s lay day included a Pool Party Lunch, a Duval Street Bar Crawl Poker Run and a Kids Dock Tournament.  More than 75 of Viking’s business partners sponsored the VKWC, such as Foley Cat, MAN Engines, Johnson & Towers/MTU and The Billfish Foundation. The 12th annual Viking Key West Challenge takes place Wednesday, April 8 through Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Viking at Signature Triple Crown Series

Congratulations to Team Galati for a 2nd Place Overall finish at the Signature Triple Crown series in Los Suenos, Costa Rica. Captain Tony Carrizosa led the team through three tournaments, releasing an incredible 186 billfish (four marlin and 182 sailfish) aboard the Viking 64. Veterans on the Triple Crown podium, Team Galati has won the series an unprecedented three times. They went back-to-back in 2020 and 2021 and again in 2023.  Stay tuned for a recap of the great success Vikings have seen in Costa Rica over the past several months.

Viking at Chud Cay Open

Despite sporty seas, Vikings claimed the top three spots at the recent Chub Cay Open. Shane Guidry’s Viking 72 Team Harvey led the charge and captured 1st Place. With captain Erick Soderholm at the helm, the team got off to a hot start by releasing eight sailfish on Day One. On Day Two they added a pair of blue marlin and another sail for the win.  Tai Tai, a Viking 68, claimed 2nd Place with a blue marlin and five sailfish. Third Place went to the Anderson family’s Viking 80 Krazy Salt’s with nine sails. “The boats dealt with challenging conditions because of the wind and waves this year,” said Tournament Direct Robert “Fly” Navarro. “It forced everyone to fish in The Pocket. Fortunately, the billfish got the memo.”

Viking at Old Bahama Bay Triple Quest

Congrats to the Viking 80 Surf Bum for leading the pack at the inaugural Old Bahama Bay Triple Quest. Brooke Russel weighed the 1st Place Dolphin at 21.1 pounds while Crystal Brinson hooked a 19.2 pound ‘hoo, which claimed 3rd Place Wahoo. Those two fish resulted in the 2nd Place Aggregate Weight award for a total of 39.3 pounds. Cookie Monster, a Viking 90, brought a 20-pound dolphin to scale to take 2nd Place in that division.

Zeelander Delivers First Boat to Hawaii

A beguiling new Zeelander 5 has just been delivered to Hawaii, proving that there is no corner of the world where Zeelander’s voluptuous appeal is not felt. Featuring a hull in Royal Night’s blue metallic and pearlescent white for the superstructure, Koa now calls the Big Island home.  The Zeelander began its long journey west from the Netherlands, being shipped down the European and African coasts, then across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and up to Vancouver. From there, it was transferred to Seattle on a low-loader, where a barge took over for the final 2,800 miles to Hawaii.  The long journey fooled the GPS, according to captain Tony Joyce. “The batteries were turned off in the Netherlands, and when we turned them back on in Hawaii, it took the GPS a minute to update its mileage. Now I've got 13,000-something miles on the GPS, while, in reality, she has only covered 300-400 herself!”

Zeelender Artistic Film

Zeelender present a short film in a poetic tribute to the art of craftsmanship—a quiet, evocative look at the patience, precision, and emotion that define every Zeelander, and the extraordinary feeling each yacht is built to awaken.

Sportfish Cruiser Destroyed by Fire in Pittwater Sydney

A sportfish cruiser of eleven meters in length went ablaze in Morning Bay, Pittwater, Sydney, just after 08:00 morning time of Tuesday fifteen June 2021.  The sportfish cruiser was reported to have two persons onboard, and was tied with two other boats, when an electrical fault is reported to have caused an onboard fire.  The two boaters evacuated the boat while the two nearby boats dropped the lines to avoid any damage.  NSW Police Marine Area Command and Rural Fire Service West Pittwater Brigade intervened for the blaze which ultimately saw the boat destroyed and semi-sunk.  Following this a Hazmat team from Fire and Rescue NSW Forestville Station was called to the scene to assist with securing booms around the vessel to prevent fuel leakage into the surrounding waterway. The cause of the fire is being investigated by NSW Police.
The sportfish boat in this fire is a Luhrs 41 Convertible as produced from 2004 up to 2009.  The 41 Convertible came out as a replacement to the bit bigger 44 Convertible and ultimately was not replaced as Luhrs went bankrupt in 2010.  A Luhrs return have been announced in 2012 and 2017 but so far none ever materialized.

Frans Heesen 1940 - 2025

It is with deep sorrow that Heesen Yachts announces the passing of its esteemed founder, Frans Heesen. Frans passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, aged 85 years old in his hometown of Oss, and is survived by beloved wife Petra, his children, and grandchildren.  A mechanical engineer Frans founded Heesen in 1978, when he purchased the Dutch subsidiary of US Striker boats.  With the purchase of Striker Boats, Frans sees the potential of building aluminium boats rather then the Dutch standard of steel, and will enhance the material even further and into larger sizes over the years.  Proof of this comes in 1979, a year later to the Heesen founding as its launches its first 20 meter yacht as designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder and build of aluminium.  This first build will be proof of Frans spirit of innovation and what will be the defining of Heesen’s future, which is followed again when he decides to embark on the challenge of building the ground-breaking fifty knots or  nothing top speed 38 meter hull #7038 as commissioned by American millionaire John Staluppi, with naval architecture by Frank Mulder, and Gerhard Gilgenast and Cor D. Rover taking care of design.  High risks involved this building as Staluppi will include penalty clauses if the yacht will not reach fifty knots, $100,000 for each knot below the targeted speed, and a right of refusal if does not do 48 knots.   Frans will take the order for what will be called m/y Octupussy, risking the shipyard’s demise, but ultimately hull #7038 is a triumph for Heesen that will propel the Dutch name to global status among yacht connoisseurs, as it will indeed be the fastest yacht above thirty meters in the eighties reaching a top speed of 53 knots during sea trials.  Frans Heesen will again show his spirit of innovation in 1996 when he will build a new record breaking yacht, as he delivers the 38 meter hull #10137, m/y Obsessions, which will be the largest sportfish yacht of the time.  Courage, exceptional ability, and visionary leadership and instinct to identify and nurture talent have been fundamental to Frans success, which has made over the years Heesen Yachts a story of growth. Frans dedicated his entire life to Heesen, fostering an environment that felt more like a family rather than a business.  Frans will sell Heesen in 2008, although he will stay in the board till 2012, guiding and solidifying the Dutch semi-custom and custom super yacht builder to solidify its success into the future.  Frans’ contributions have left an indelible mark on the motor and super yachting industry and everyone who had the honour of working with him.  Frans presence will be profoundly missed, with his spirit and vision being the backbone and the guiding force of Heesen Yachts today and into the future.

Project: GX Superyachts 34 RPH

GX Superyachts has unveiled the project for an upcoming GX34 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2025. With sleek, timeless design and fantastic exterior spaces, it is proof positive that responsible design need make no compromise on comfort or functionality. The announcement of the new model comes hot on the heels of news that building work has already begun on the brand’s GX42 flagship. There has been such a clamour of interest around the debut of this exciting new sustainable super yachting business, that it made sense to proceed quickly with a second model. Like its bigger sister, the heart of the GX34 project is the tantalising promise of the full superyacht lifestyle without the full CO2 emissions that usually accompany it. Under the banner of the Responsible Yachting movement, GX Superyachts is spearheading a revolution in the way that even large yachts can maximise electrical power and reduce their reliance on traditional diesel. The result for the GX34 is emissions that are 30% lower than the standard. Through sister company Greenline Yachts, GX Superyachts can draw on decades of experience in hybrid diesel-electric propulsion. The solution combines twin 200kW electric motors with up to 2132kW of diesel power, for the best of both worlds. There is silent and vibration-free electric propulsion over short distances with powerful, efficient internal combustion engines for greater speeds and distances. A vast lithium-ion battery bank of up to 800kWh permits optimum power management. With the option of up to 46 solar panels for. The GX34 RPH set into the superstructure and hard top, the GX34 can generate up to 30MWh of solar energy per year to spend long periods at anchor without the need to switch on the generators. Even with the air conditioning turned right up and the help of the very efficient battery, the yacht can run hotel systems in silent electric mode for up to 48 hours, ensuring guests get a comfortable night’s sleep. And with a greater reliance on natural ventilation, that silent period lengthens considerably. When battery levels fall too low, super-efficient generators start up automatically for rapid three-hour charging. And for longer, faster passages, the twin diesel engines take the strain. In this mode, the electric motors can serve as battery chargers as well, utilising energy ‘wasted’ by the engines. This ensures that the GX34 reaches its destination with full batteries. The GX34 delivers impressive performance, boasting an oceanic range of 10,000 nautical miles in hybrid mode at six knots. It cruises comfortably at twelve knots and can reach a top speed of sixteen knots, depending on the chosen performance package, which includes the option of twin 749kW engines. Larger engine configurations and "Hybrid Sport" packages are currently under study. To create an exceptional product takes exceptional design, so GX Superyachts has assembled a team of internationally prominent designers. Marco Casali is responsible for the exterior looks and the interior styling, while Francesco Rogantin of NAMES has tuned the naval architecture for maximum efficiency and stability. The yacht unveiled at Palm Beach is the raised pilot house RPH variant, with a low-profile flybridge crowning the superstructure. But like all GX Superyachts, there is a Fly and an even slicker Coupe version available, where the roof of the superstructure forms a single elegant convex curve. All models feature a generously shaded guest cockpit aft with dining space and comfortable lounge seating. A sensational entertaining and relaxing space is centred on the lower aft deck, which grows to more than 50 square metres of space when the two side wings are lowered.  There’s the option of a saltwater pool integrated into the aft platform, which has been designed to lift and store a tender up to four meters long. On the GX34 RPH version, the generous flybridge deck can be configured according to the owner’s wishes. Informal dining, epic lounging space and a bar are all part of the vision, and the designers have also studied the option for a Jacuzzi, positioned aft with an unbeatable view. Proportions for the interior are equally grandiose. There are five guest cabins, the jewel of which is naturally the owner’s stateroom, occupying pride of place forward on the main deck. From the owner’s king-size bed, there are sweeping 270-degree views of the horizon through deep glazing. Naturally enough at this scale, the owner is welcome to bring their own designer to the project, but Casali has imagined an interior that perfectly complements the clean, aerodynamic lines of the exterior. It’s all about natural woods, leathers and stones that create a comfortable, calming oasis. These are carefully selected for their sustainability, closing the circle on this yacht’s philosophy of Responsible Yachting.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SD132

In a private ceremony held in Monaco on the first week of April Sanlorenzo presented its new SD132. Coming from a design of Zuccon, the SD132 is the largest ever to come from Sanlorenzo SD line, replacing the SD126 as the flaghsip, but is also the Italian builder largest fiberglass build to date.  Debuting in 2007 with the Paszkowski designed SD92, the SD line was the first initiative of Massimo Perotti new ownership to branch Sanlorenzo in other areas of motor yachting, beyond the offer of modern conservative looking planning motor yachts the respected Viareggio builder was known for at the time.  The SD line proved a winner for Sanlorenzo which as at today has delivered over a hundred hulls, in a total of seven models from 27 to forty meters in size.  This first SD132 was titled m/y Andiamo, which translates in English to Lets Go and also featured interiors designed by the same Zuccon.  While featuring the same classic inspired design the SD132 is full of modern amenities like an expandable beach area with drop down bulk heads which is also connected to the aft deck, and features a bar area with TV, but also a side tender garage, and a second garage on the bow deck.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 unlike other SD models is also asymmetric with it being wide body to starboard of the main deck.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 is powered by twin Man 1650hp or Cat 1622hp for speeds up to seventeen knots, a cruise of thirteen, and maximum range up to 3200 nautical miles.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 has already gone off to a flying start with five other hulls already signed before this first unit was completed.
