Azimut Benetti Yachting Gala 2016

Azimut|Benetti looks to the legend of Capri, the island that symbolizes luxury and quintessential Italian style, for the brand’s Yachting Gala, the exclusive event for owners and enthusiasts of the mega-yachts designed by the world’s leading builder of them. Sea trials, special events and tours to discover the excellence of Italian taste, culture and consummate quality.  On the weekend of May 21 and 22, more than 700 clients arrived on this legendary island from countries around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore and many others, to celebrate the splendid yachts built by the Group in an atmosphere permeated by the charm of the Italian lifestyle.  The Marina Grande on the island played host to a fleet of no less than 22 yachts, representing the Group’s entire range. Guests had the chance to experience these remarkable yachts, packed with design, power and technology, at sea in the waters off the Faraglioni, the Arco Naturale, Marina Piccola bay and in many other enchanting locations. The Yachting Gala also provided an opportunity to celebrate the partnership with Rolls Royce and its futuristic Azipull Carbon 65 pod propulsion system, which has already been fitted to the Benetti Vivace 125’. So after Rio De Janeiro, Viareggio, Cannes, Monte Carlo and Portofino, our voyage through the world of glamour and unique yachts continues against the theatrical backdrop provided by Capri, where the culture, joie de vivre, passion, colors and scents of the Mediterranean blend together into a style that has been setting fashion trends the world over for decades. The Azimut|Benetti Yachting Gala is a sort of private boat show for the Group’s top clients, designed to give them the chance to admire all the latest novelties launched on international markets at the Cannes, Miami and Dubai boat shows: Azimut 66 Fly, the new icon in its category; the innovative Azimut 72 Fly, with a superstructure made entirely from carbon fibre; and Azimut Magellano 66, the latest model in the long range Italian style collection. Plus Azimut Grande 95RPH, which made its debut last season, and two Benetti yachts in the Fast Displacement line, Benetti Vivace 125 and Benetti Veloce 140. Ashore, our women guests in particular were the protagonists of an enthralling Capri Experience, with presentations and demonstrations by Carthusia, the celebrated perfume house, short trips to discover the hand craftsmanship of famous sandal designer Emanuela Caruso and guided tastings of the original ‘Limoncello from Capri’. Other Yachting Gala partners of excellence and paladins of Italian luxury and style were on hand to provide courtesy cars, organised spirited wine tastings and offer relaxing beauty sessions to the ladies present. Our guests also had the chance to spend precious hours in every sense with storied jewelers, who took them on a remarkable voyage of discovery to explore this fascinating world of precious gemstones. An exhibition of vintage clothes from round the world and a cocktail party also proved to be a great hit with guests. Tours were organised to discover the island’s natural and cultural attractions, taking visitors both inland to admire the medieval churches and wonderful views, as well as to Anacapri, to enjoy the spectacular gardens and breathtaking view from Monte Solaro, in addition to excursions to the Grotta Azzurra. The social high point was the gala event on Saturday night, staged at La Canzone del Mare with its spectacular seafront terrace looking out over the Faraglioni. The evening began with a warm and elegant welcome for guests offered by a tarantella folk dance group, followed by dinner and entertainment. The combination of delicacies from Capri, the exclusive setting, live entertainment and gourmet areas inspired by the famous atmosphere of the Amalfi coastline were a resounding success with guests. The traditional parade of Azimut and Benetti yachts, illuminated by a magical light show, was followed by fireworks which gave the signal to start the festivities at Anima e Core, the iconic Capri night club with a cult following where the dancing went on into the early hours of the morning. The event’s positioning and impact struck a chord with the entire island, arousing interest both from the local population and visitors. The general opinion was that this magical and stylish event will be remembered for a long time to come.  The Azimut|Benetti Yachting Gala represents a key opportunity for the Italian Group to showcase its entire fleet to a select audience of cosmopolitan international owners, in a setting permeated by values, experiences, atmospheres and emotions that reflect the culture of excellence which is an intangible feature of our Italian heritage. That ‘mark of origin’ which makes us unique and inimitable in the world.

Baglietto and New Independent Ideas Presents Advertising Campaign 2016

Boat builder Baglietto launches its new advertising campaign that will be on air as of June 2016 on the main yachting magazines and for the first time with a multiple subject. Bespoke Italian yachting tradition, a distinctive, everlasting style and an innate propensity to innovation are the main Baglietto’s values; the brand also thanks to its more-than-160 years of history, a new state-of-the-art shipyard and a full range of new products is finally ready to state its new positioning well expressed by a tagline which represents the perfect mix between heritage and future: “Cutting Edge Yachts. Since 1854”. This is the sign of the two ADV campaign whose main objective is to represent the Baglietto yachts as real Italian Masterpieces. The first campaign is, in fact, dedicated to the Baglietto displacement line: the yacht is represented in a sea specially treated as if in an impressionist painting, creating dreamlike emotional scenarios. The second campaign is dedicated to the Fast Line: the view at the zenith of the Baglietto 46m and 43m fast yachts with their long wakes recall the famous painting “Tagli” by Lucio Fontana. Once again the creativity brings the sign of Independent Ideas, the agency established in 2007 by Lapo Elkann and Alberto Fusignani which is supporting Baglietto communication since 2012.

Columbus Yachts Winner

Modern lines, bright and tranquil interior spaces and semi-displacement performance attracted the Boat International judges attention to this 40.1m all - aluminum Columbus Yachts M/Y Divine, and when combined with the optimized sea keeping and fuel economy derived from a diesel - electric propulsion package, this yacht proved to be a winner.  Among many design features admired by the judges were the fold - down bulwarks that form lovely side balconies - their glazed elements providing increased visibility from the interior when folded - these are positioned opposite floor-to-ceiling sliding doors in order to unite the saloon with the world outside. On a technical level, the yacht’s hybrid propulsion, which provides for excellent fuel economy, also allows the yacht to cruise extremely quietly at eight knots, running on fixed-RPM generators with low emissions. During navigation under the main engines the same electric motor is used as a generator, allowing the gen-sets to be turned off.  Naval architecture and exterior design by Palumbo Group and Hydrotec while interior design is Palumbo Group together with Hot Lab Studio.  This is the second recognition that follows the 2012 World Superyachts Awards received for 54m M/Y Prima, in addition to the three ShowBoats Design Awards received for interiors, exteriors and styling of 40m Sport Hybrid M/Y Eleonora III.

With the expertise of Vripack I believe we have the perfect collaboration of British craftsmanship, Italian style and Dutch engineering.”  Russell Currie, Managing Director of Fairline Yachts said, “Introducing the creative flair and style of Alberto Mancini with the engineering excellence of Vripack to the exceptional quality and British craftsmanship we already have at Fairline makes an exciting combination. I look forward to showing our new product designs over the coming weeks and months.”

Gulf Craft at World Super Yacht Awards

Gulf Craft has been distinguished for its unique ability to deliver both quality and value to its clientele by one of the most coveted recognitions in the international superyacht manufacturing industry, the World Superyacht Awards.  Hosted by Boat International, the annual World Superyacht Awards are sought-after by the world’s leading superyacht builders and are considered a prominent achievement in the leisure marine industry. The Emirates-based yacht and boat builder received the accolade at a glamorous ceremony in Italy, where owners and industry leaders gathered to celebrate the remarkable ingenuity demanded by the design, engineering, and construction of the world’s finest luxury yachts.  Three of Gulf Craft’s brilliant innovations; the Majesty 155 (M/Y Escape), the Majesty 135 (M/Y Jewel), and the Majesty 122 (M/Y Nashwan) were named as finalists in different categories, with theluxurious 37-metre Majesty 122 ultimately taking the Quality and Value Award. This award is presented to a yacht that demonstrates high quality while avoiding undue escalation in high cost.  The Majesty 122 (M/Y Nashwan) was competing against all named finalists at the World Superyacht Awards – 66 internationally produced superyachts for this prestigious recognition, marking yet another milestone for Gulf Craft as the shipyard continues to consolidate its position as a global leader for the manufacturing of world-class superyachts.  This is the third international award the Majesty 122 receives since the superyacht was globally launched at last year’s Dubai International Boat Show. In 2015, the Majesty 122 showed an early start to success when it received the Best Asian Built Yacht Award at the Asia Boating Awards. The superyacht also won ‘Best Yacht Installation’ at the 2015 CEDIA Awards, which celebrate excellence in home technology design, installation, and integration across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. According to the judges, the quality of Gulf Craft’s yachts has significantly increased over the last few years, and this was certainly reflected in the Majesty 122 (M/Y Nashwan). Not only is the superyacht built to a high standard in all areas, but it displayed a spacious layout that includes a tender garage and a commodious crew area, as well as outstanding facilities for both owners and guests – representing exceptional value for its USD 9.5 million price tag. In the judges’ opinion, this yacht is well-suited for entry level Mediterranean and Gulf cruising.  The ability to remain competitive without compromising on quality plays an instrumental role in the success of any business, particularly when it comes to the manufacturing of high-investment products, says Gulf Craft’s Chairman, Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali.  “It is no longer sufficient that we meet customer expectations, we must exceed them,” Al Shaali said. “At Gulf Craft, what drives our commitment to delivering value is our strong belief that yachting is more than a status symbol. It is a marvel that deserves to be experienced by everyone, regardless of status or budget, and we work relentlessly to make this possible. We are honored to have our efforts recognized by the esteemed World Superyacht Awards.”  An internationally acclaimed trailblazer for the leisure marine industry, Gulf Craft is renowned for its capacity to meet the diverse needs of its clientele through its wide range of seaworthy craft, including its luxury fly-bridge Majesty Yachts, its oceangoing Nomad Yachts series, as well as its Oryx sport yachts and cruisers, and Silvercraft fishing boats and family cruisers. Having been recently recognized as the Best Motor Yacht Builder in Asia, the celebrated UAE shipyard continues to bolster its global presence, from South East Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific, to Europe and the Middle East. Gulf Craft is listed as one of the top ten superyacht shipyards in the 2016 edition of the industry leading publication, the Superyacht Intelligence Annual Report. Through its ongoing investment in research and development, the company continues to put the UAE on the map for the timeless design and production of powerfully engineered, world-class luxury yachts and leisure boats.

Gulf Craft CEO Advises Tommorow Buisness Leaders

Striking a balance between innovation and ongoing customer support for legacy products is crucial to realizing success in a dynamic business environment, according to CEO of Emirates-based yacht and boat builder Gulf Craft.  Speaking to a group of undergraduate business students at the American University of Sharjah, Bamps warned that brands which do not consider legacy product compatibility as part of their research and development efforts risk losing value as more players are able to enter the marketplace offering same quality products at competitive prices.  By staying committed to legacy products, manufactures do not risk isolating existing customers and enable them to mitigate costs associated with selling or trading-in their assets in the future, explained Bamps.  “If you look at our 30-plus year old boats, for example, you will see that they do not feel outdated, and that is because we provide customers the opportunity and technical capacity to continuously upgrade their craft,” he said.“This cultivates trust between us and our clients – they know that when they are making an investment, it will not go to waste.”  Innovation goes beyond product enhancement and includes recognizing diverse market needs, according to Bamps, adding that had Gulf Craft only focused on manufacturing yachts for private owners, it would not have been able to tap into the broad customer base it enjoys today.  “Yachting has only risen in popularity in the region and in South East Asia over the last two decades and is still in very much of a growing phase,” said Bamps. “That is why our range includes our Silvercraft fishing boats and family cruisers, Oryx sport cruisers, as well as a series of utility boats, each addressing a very different requirement and serving a unique customer segment.“  The pioneering yacht and boat builder continues to innovate. Gulf Craft’s recently launched Nomad Yachts series, for example, was created after the company identified a growing interest in the market for comfortable long-range sea travel.  “We made it our mission to fulfill that aspiration,” says Bamps. “And we continue to make it our mission to deliver on the cruising experiences people are looking for. Maintaining a sustainable business model is about having the foresight to tap into these aspirations and transform them into something real, while still showing appreciation for the legacy you have built as a companyand the products that have led to your success. If you are able to do both, then you will be ready to take on any obstacles that come your way.”

Gulf Craft CEO Says Luxury Sector Demonstrate Resiliance

The region’s luxury sector is continuing to demonstrate resilience in spite of economic challenges, driven byinvestor recognition of the many opportunities the current market landscape presents, UAE industry experts said yesterday.  Record-low oil prices have had a ripple effect on global economies, however with growing private wealth in the GCC, reaching a cumulative USD 2.2 trillion, according to the most recent statistics by Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company) – the propensity to spend remains buoyant in the region asbuyers shift their focus from product to value.  “The market for luxury products is not dissolving, but evolving,” says Erwin Bamps, CEO of Gulf Craft, one of the world’s leading superyacht shipyards. “So it is not a question of where the money is going, but rather how customers are choosing to spend it.”  “Today’s customers are more value-conscious, better educated, and more informed than ever. They do their research before coming to us. This means that their expectations are higher, but it also means we have an opportunity to achieve greater customer satisfaction because we have a clearer understanding of their requirements,” Bamps added.  According to the Luxury Goods Worldwide Market Study by Baine & Company, worldwide luxury spending surpassed EUR 1 trillion (more than AED 4 trillion) in 2015, with the Middle East listed among the top 10 big spenders at EUR 8.1 billion (AED 34 billion).  Similarly, Cluttons’ 2016 Middle East Private Capital Survey indicated that real estate continues to be a preferred investment route for the GCC’s high net worth individuals. About 63 per cent of HNWIs from the Arabian Gulf plan to invest in locations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, according to the survey, which was conducted in partnership with YouGov.  “Yes, the world is facing economic challenges, but with every challenge comes an opportunity,” said Cesar Latrilla, CEO of Engel &Völkers Dubai, a service company specialized in the brokerage of high-end real estate and yachts.  “Ultra high net worth individuals understand that this could be the best time to make an investment because of the prospects presented by current market conditions – lower prices, greater value, and a higher return on investment in the long-term.”  Clients make the best ambassadors, agreed the industry leaders, adding that the most effective approach to generating sales leads is positive word-of-mouth.  “No one can better share their journey with you than a customer who has experienced it first-hand, and this is especially true for high-investment purchases,” says Bamps. “However, this all boils down to a company’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and quality products. If you have one happy client who then shares his or her experience with another potential client, there is a strong chance this could turn into a sale. But the opposite also holds true, and that is why a company’s capacity to meet and exceed customer aspirations will ultimately determine its destiny, regardless the economic situation.”

Our traditional theme party held on Friday evening celebrated Cinco de Mayo. The Mariachi Band performed as the colorfully dressed guests, adorned with sombreros, ponchos, and Mexican dresses, arrived. As the buffet dinner was served, the live band played select Rock ‘n Roll tunes throughout the evening. We have always prided ourselves to say that member participation at our events are over the top, and this group did not disappoint. On Saturday, after a beautiful Marlow Margaritaville luncheon on the docks, we proceeded to christen six vessels. Afterwards, ten of the proud owners opened their boats to welcome all guests aboard.  Our awards dinner Saturday evening was a delight to all. It encompassed many different activities. We started with the Marlow Style ‘Run for the Roses’-Kentucky Derby. Each boat owner chose their favorite horses and the top 4 winners were awarded prizes. The sit down dinner featuring choices of lobster, steak, shrimp and chicken, were expertly served. After dinner, a custom floor show consisting of traditional and hi-energy Mexican dances were performed and ended with audience participation. Prizes were awarded for all sorts of accomplishments and participation during the events. After the Sunday breakfast, we wished everyone Bon Voyage and pondered the question, where will the 21st MMCC Rendezvous be in 2017?

Mulder Wins World Super Yacht Award

Organized by Boat International Media, this year's World Superyacht Awards took place in the inspiring environment of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. Mulder Shipyard's largest build to date, the 34-metre Solis was nominated for best yacht in her category.  Solis was independently reviewed by 20 judges: "The judges were immediately drawn to the Mulder 34-metre motor yacht Solis by her attractive and original exterior lines, while excellent reports from the judges that had visited her concerning her quality of build and other aspects that cannot be determined by text and photographs reinforced this interest.  Delving deeper, they discovered the vessel’s transatlantic range, state-of-the-art facilities and the very pleasing level of interior brightness and exterior visibility provided by her large use of glass, much of which has the ability to be opened. This, the judges felt, is a true ‘pocket’ superyacht built on a human scale that not only satisfies the demanding aesthetic requirements of her owners, who tend to shy away from ostentation, but also provide a high level of comfort and convenience.   The judges were so impressed by this yacht that the decision to award her the Neptune for this class was almost unanimous. Solis, the largest Mulder launched to date, was deemed a very worthy winner".  The event was hosted by Spanish actress and model Inés Sastre, where representatives of the yard, designers and naval architects of Solis were delighted to receive the Neptune with great pride. "This award is a mile-stone in our 78 years existence. The recognision of our quality by professionals from the industry is much appreciated", managing director Dick Mulder commented. "We would like to congratulate everyone involved in the build of this magnificent vessel."  Solis is a full custom build displacement yacht, designed and engineered with an unique philosophy. The serene environment of the yacht is inviting families to enjoy memorable moments.

We are also pleased with the very positive reception by our international clientele, in Europe as well as America and Japan, where the first 76’ Perseo was sold.”  Ferretti Group is attending “Internautica” with its exclusive dealer MennYacht, displaying for the first time in Slovenia the Ferretti Yachts 960, the brand’s flagship, as well as the Pershing 70 in addition to other popular yachts by the Group, including the Pershing 56, Pershing 64, Pershing 80 and the Rivarama Super.

Riviera Stages Hawkesbury Experience

For those of us who have experienced the exhilaration of extended coastal cruising with Riviera, every opportunity to stretch our sea legs in the company of family and friends heightens our sense of fun and adventure.  For some, these types of passages help build confidence and skills to use their yachts to their full potential, safe in the knowledge that experienced marine professionals are always close at hand. For others, they are the catalyst for long-lasting friendships with people who share a passion for the rich and rewarding Riviera life afloat.  For members of the close-knit R Marine Crawley family of Riviera and Belize luxury motor yacht owners, it is indeed the camaraderie and sheer enjoyment of blue-water passage-making that keeps them coming back for more.  In early March, four Rivieras departed Queensland’s Gold Coast Seaway in convoy for an 400-nautical mile journey south to Broken Bay as part of the annual R Marine Crawley Hawkesbury Experience, being joined by a further seven yachts throughout the next 10 days.  After an overnight stop in Coffs Harbour, the group cruised to Broken Bay and over the next week explored the natural beauty and amenities of Pittwater, Newport, Refuge Bay and Palm Beach, with many followers expressing both their envy via social media platform, Facebook.  Dave Pollack, owner of the Riviera 5000 Sport Yacht Hokus Pokus, said the Experience passages provided an opportunity to see the East Australian coastline from a different perspective.  Ben and his dedicated RMC team, who were awarded the Individual and Riviera Dealer Sales Excellence Awards for Australia and New Zealand in 2015 – regularly stage Experience cruising events, including their very popular winter migration to the Whitsundays.  R Marine Crawley this year opens a new service division at Abell Point Marina, Airlie Beach, to support Riviera owners who choose to berth their yachts in the Whitsundays during the winter months.

Celebrated as a great success by its many attendees during the last two editions, Elite Days is the annual event organized by Sanlorenzo to present its entire fleet and latest news to its cosmopolitan ship-owners community. Sanlorenzo introduced SL86 (shown at Cannes Yachting Festival) and 460Explorer, the expedition vessel shown at Monaco Yacht Show and presented in Rapallo during the Elite Days with U-Boat Worx submersible and amphibious seaplane with folding wings by SeaMax, on-board. In occasion of Elite Days, thanks to the cooperation with its exclusive partners, Sanlorenzo organized unique “made-to-measure” experiences well in tune with the DNA of the Italian shipyard. Over a period of a few years, the shipyard has climbed the prestigious Global Order Book ranking, which is annually listed by Showboats International. Today, Sanlorenzo ranks second among the top 20 builders of yachts over 24 metres for the third consecutive year.  Guests from all over the world together with Italian and international press were welcomed by Sanlorenzo to appreciate their entire yachts collection: the main quay of Rapallo, reserved for the occasion, hosted 14 yachts for tours and live tests in the surroundings of the amazing Portofino bay. With their unique features, Sanlorenzo yachts were the stars of this two-day event: customization process, tailor-made details and high quality materials exalted the company values and mission since 1958. Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo President and CEO, welcomed his guests during an elegant weekend and gala dinner, organized on 7th May in the scenic Portofino “piazzetta”, the perfect setting for 450 guests. During the 2016 edition, Sanlorenzo revealed the green side of yachting excellence with the SL106 Hybrid preview, the first boat of its class with an hybrid propulsion system. Since 1958 Sanlorenzo represents the best expression of technological research applied to nautical excellence; innovation drives the Shipyard to reveal the green side of nautical excellence with the sea test of the first yacht with hybrid propulsion in the Portofino bay. SL-Hybrid is the new hybrid propulsion system developed by Sanlorenzo with Diesel Center and MTU: the innovation reduces fuel consumption and Carbon footprint, noise and fluctuations, significantly improving on-board comfort both at sea and at anchor. It’s a real Eco Revolution, an attitude well highlighted during Elite Days thanks to the innovative electro mobility offered by BMW with the IPerformance cars (i3,i5 and i8), the new Series7 Hybrid Limousine, electric pedal-assisted bicycles and the electric Motorrad C Evolution scooters. Style, elegance and a tailor-made approach are the distinctive features of all the experiences Sanlorenzo offered to its 450 guests in the exclusive atmosphere between the Rapallo and Portofino bay. For two days, the port of Rapallo was transformed into a “made-to-measure boutique” thanks to original interpretations of excellence in several sectors.  The vintage car race is a must during Elite Days: two weeks for two people in an astonishing and private villas with personal butler in Mauritius island (by Anahita Resort) was the distinctive prize for the winner.  Recreational but technological, the Water Toys offered guests an exciting experience with a fly-test on board of the amphibious seaplane Ultralight Seamax, that folds its wings and can be installed on superyacht, or the U-boat Worxadvanced private submarine. Guests were also offered the exciting experience of Nimbus drone, thanks to the special glasses the ship-owners can patrol the bays before mooring.   The experiences also brought with them the unique touch of artisan craftsmanship thanks to the sartorial laboratory Pasquale Bonfilio to discover the shapes, colours and materials of its hats.  Petali e musica is the name of the experience signed by Rosalba Piccinni, the “florist-singer” who showed all the ladies how to create sophisticated flower arrangements; the eclectic illustrator Andrea Tarella exhibited his Artistic Live Performance creating real-time portraits and landscapes with his personal and charming style. Renato Ardovino, one of the most famous Italian cake designers, set up a candy bar to decorate cakes, macaron and cookies.  A fusion path between contemporary art and navigation was staged on the yacht SL126 Totok, courtesy of TornabuoniArte.  Like every other year, Rolls-Royce attended this edition of the Elite Days. In addition to the wonderful RR Ghost, available to guest as a “VIP shuttle”, the British car company famous worldwide for 100 years for its luxury, classy and exclusive cars, presented, exclusively to Sanlorenzo guests, its new Rolls-Royce Dawn, a convertible car to drive enjoying the open air.  The large top-down entirely coated in cashmere made this experience unique. Moreover the wooden rear reminds people of prestigious boats, a perfect match for Sanlorenzo yachts.

Sea Ray Supports National Safe Boating Week

Sea Ray officials are joining boating safety advocates during National Safe Boating Week, through May 27, to promote safe and responsible boating, including consistently wearing a life jacket every time a boater is on the water, using products and services that promote safe boating, and seeking proper training to educate and inform boaters. Sea Ray also will join with Mercury Marine engines and parts and accessories as well as a dozen other Brunswick boat brands in featuring a sweepstakes on social media. The contest prize is a safety kit featuring Attwood’s bailer safety kit, multi-function LED sport light, first-aid kit, telescoping emergency paddle and 40-liter dry bag, along with two Mustang personal flotation devices and a Mercury Marine emergency-shutoff lanyard. Each of Brunswick’s 13 marine brands participating in this initiative will conduct a social media sweepstakes contest, and each will offer a safety kit.  The contest is open to all U.S. consumers, with the exception of Brunswick employees and their immediate family, who are ineligible to win. Contestants can enter once a day for the life of the contest, with 13 winners — one for each brand — being selected at random on May 26 from the pool of all eligible entries at each brand. Prizes will be shipped within 15 days of the announcement of the winners.  National Safe Boating Week is the launch of the 2016 North American Safe Boating Campaign. This yearlong campaign promotes safe and responsible boating and the value of voluntary, consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters through the campaign’s national theme, Wear It!  “Sea Ray is extremely dedicated to ensuring boater safety. We believe boat owners should always be properly educated and prepared to respond appropriately in the event of an accident. Boaters must have the proper safety equipment onboard at all times and be empowered to quickly initiate safety processes if needed,” said Tim Schiek, president of Sea Ray. National Safe Boating Week is the launch of the 2016 North American Safe Boating Campaign.  The National Safe Boating Council believes life jacket wear is the simplest strategy to stay safe, while enjoying your favorite recreational water activity. According to recent U.S. Coast Guard statistics, drowning was the reported cause of death in three-fourths of all boating fatalities in 2013. Of those, 84 percent were reported as not wearing their life jackets. Further, new life jackets are much more comfortable, lightweight and stylish than the bulky orange style most boaters know. There are innovative options, such as inflatable life jackets, allowing mobility and flexibility for activities like boating, fishing, paddling or hunting, and are much cooler in the warmer weather.  In addition, the Council advises using products that promote safe boating, such as safety lanyards. These can be attached to a personal flotation device or around the boat driver’s wrist, and connects to an engine-shutoff switch. If the boat driver falls overboard or to the deck of the boat, the engine-shutoff switch will be activated by the lanyard clip, stopping the engine and significantly reducing the risk of bodily harm.  Sea Ray and Brunswick are committed to helping ensure every boater stays safe and healthy on the water, and are proud to support the efforts of the National Safe Boating Council during National Safe Boating Week and all year long.

Viking Ocean Final Showdown

For over a quarter century, the owners and crews of Viking have been going head to head against the owners and crews of nearby Ocean Yachts in friendly fishing competition. The prize? Regional bragging rights and possession of the storied perpetual trophy for the upcoming year. This very special tournament grew out of these two manufacturers whose close proximity to each other in Southern New Jersey has literally defined MidAtlantic sportfishing. The Viking Ocean Showdown has been held annually for all of its 27 years at the beautiful Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, New Jersey. Open only to the owners of the two brands, the Showdown has been popular with both houses since it delivers a fun four day experience of fishing and camaraderie with friends old and new and family, as well as the opportunity to meet with manufacturers' representatives and factory personnel. With John Leek III retiriing and John Leek IV joining Viking the question was asked, "What about the Showdown?" After much deliberation, it has been decided that the Showdown will continue for one more year, and this last year will certainly be one to remember! "The Final Showdown" as we are calling it, will be held July 13-17, 2016. As always, it will be a contest between Viking and Ocean crews; fishing head-to-head one last time for those bragging rights!  As a Viking owner it's possible that you have participated in a previous Viking Showdown. Whether you have or not, we hope that you will join us in 2016 as we celebrate the 27 years of fishing and fun, memories and camaraderie that has become the hallmark of this unique event! After all, it will indeed be The Final Showdown.

Viking Winner Circle

A gorgeous display of Vikings filled the marina at the Old Bahama Bay Marina for the recent Mike Schmidt Winner's Circle Charities Invitational. While everyone who is involved in the event is a winner, there were a stack of Vikings that placed on the winning scoreboard during the three fishing days as well.  Bob Noble and his family fishing on their Viking 64 Stihl Leader placed second overall with a total combined weight of 95.1 pounds. The team weighed a whopper of a yellowfin tuna at 47.2 pounds as well as a 25.6 pound 'hoo and dolphin just over 22 pounds.  The first sailfish released of the event was from Team Unleashed fishing Brad Francis' Viking 55. First time Winner's Circle participants, Team Hulett fishing the Viking 62 won a daily with a 31.7 pound dolphin. Frank Devlin's Viking 52 Four Reel weighed a 41.8 pound wahoo for a daily and High Life, Dennis Theis' Viking 64 also claimed a daily with a 37 pound wahoo.  While meat fish were the target, it didn't stop a few boats from having some fun with releases. Princess Lily's John Samuels released a blue from his Viking 66 and Gary Belcher had a sailfish on his Viking 52Plum Crazy.

Viking Next Generation

Viking Co-Founder, Bill Healey, greeted a young group of Viking enthusiasts on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The children spent the day at the Viking facility learning about the boat building industry and all the different components needed to build a yacht, as well as different careers and jobs necessary to make the company run. A plant tour and a meal in the famed Viking lunch room were on the day's agenda as well.

Viking With Veterans

United States Army Sergeant Chris Thrasher and his son Liam are sharing some pretty cool fishing stories. The double Purple Heart recipient from Mississippi released his first sailfish on the Viking 66 Princess Lily during the recent West Palm Beach Fishing Club's 6th annual fishing day for wounded vets. Liam boated the biggest fish he ever caught, a nice king-fish.  Sergeant Thrasher was one of nearly a dozen who were taking part in a long weekend event organized by the locally based West Palm Beach Waterfront Warriors. Hats off to Princess Lily's John Samuels and Captain Mike Hunter as well as Viking 52 Reel Captivating's Wayne Jenkins and Captains Travis Timilty and Mike Simko for hosting their boats.  Back at the dock Sergeant Chris had this to say, "Liam and just had our best experience ever, hands down." The Viking Yacht Company thanks you Sergeant Chris Thrasher for your service and to you Liam for your sacrifices.
