Project: Fairline 58 Squadron

Fairline decide to update and redesign the award winning 55 Squadron to create the 58 Squadron, scheduled for launch at the London show coming January 2011. The new 58 Squadron incorporates key design trends and ongoing signature Fairline styling as seen on the latest generation models. The key change here will be the longer length hull which sees the introduction of an extended cockpit seating area. The extended aft deck also brings greater headroom above the bed in the fourth-crew cabin. Panoramic windows feature throughout the boat. The new length also allows for a larger master cabin. To help make the most of the time on the water, the innovative, patent-pending concealed mechanised Fairline Tender Launch, for either a Williams 325 Jet RIB or a Valiant Dynamic 2.7m, is fitted as standard. Following the Squadron 65, the latest model features an overhead lift-up transom shower. A two-stage, sliding patio door allows the area leading from the cockpit to the saloon to be opened up. Giving further space to these living areas, the high level lockers have been relocated from both sides of the saloon and cleverly designed storage has been positioned in the saloon sofa; simply lift the top cushion to reveal. Another change are newly designed mid-level lockers in the starboard guest cabin which are now twice as wide. www.fairline.com

Class 1 - Abu Dhabi Preview

Nine boats will line up for this week's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and a repeat of last year's race win-double by World Champions Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi will seal the Emirati duo their third World titles.
The Fazza pairing already has one trophy under their belts after clinching the 2010 European Championship at the Italian Grand Prix in Stresa in October, taking six wins from a possible eight this season, and head into the penultimate Grand Prix of the season carrying a 33-point advantage over their teammates in Spirit of Dubai. And, barring any kind of technical meltdown are on course to give Victory Team a tenth World crown.
For the Spirit of Dubai crew the title may be beyond their reach but they know they can cover off the 2010 Champions elect from an unlikely but still mathematically possible title challenge from either Negotiator or GSG Ceramic Design, and will be looking to defend their second place in the points standings by adding to their tally of four podium finishes since teaming-up in Sweden.
Three teams field new pairings this week; Italian outfit GiorgiOffshore bring in Italian motor racing driver Sandro Sardelli to take the driver's seat in the Lamborghini-SCAM powered GiorgiOffshore to make his Class 1 debut alongside experienced throttleman Nicola Giorgi.
Giorgi makes his 73rd Grand Prix start in Abu Dhabi and will be looking to try to repeat his podium success in the Edox Pole Position last year, and to consolidate on this season's performances, which saw him start strongly to finish fifth and fourth in Brazil, grab a podium in race 1 in Sweden and finish sixth in race 2 in the Italian Grand Prix.
UK based Chris Parsonage Racing field an all-Italian driver line up, with Giovanni Carpitella who raced with team owner Parsonage last time out in Italy joined in the Lamborghini V12-powered Negotiator by Class 1 debutant, Luca Formilli Fendi, who has competed in XCAT and Class 3 and for the last three years in P1, lifting the European Championship in 2008.
Carpitella, who made his Class 1 debut in 2002, will not be fazed by a seventh driver change in 30 race starts. In 2009 he guided Al Hameli to a podium on his Class 1 race debut in Abu Dhabi and this season powered two of his drivers to podium successes and race wins, Manuzzi in Norway and Al Tayer in Sweden, on his way to finishing second overall in this season's European Championship.
Looking to build on an already impressive debut season in Class 1 with four podium finishes and currently lying in fourth place in the overall points table GSG Ceramic Design's Guido Cappellini reforms his partnership with fellow Italian Giampaolo Montavoci, who earlier this year won the GPS (P1) World title.
The pair raced together at the season-opener in Brazil, finishing fourth and third, with Montavoci, who last year achieved his best-ever finish in the overall World Championship standings in his twelve years of racing, finishing fourth, looking to continue his extraordinary run of consecutive points-finishes, which began back in Arendal in 2007, and now extends to 22 Grands Prix and 26 races.
Denied their first race win together in race 1 in Italy after being handed a post-race penalty-lap, Welmax's all-Norwegian partnership of Kolbjorn Selmer and Jorn Tandberg has, on occasion this season, looked the crew most likely to upset Fazza's dominance and although out of the running in the race for the World title, a run of three consecutive wins in qualifying puts them at the top of the Edox Pole Position Championship standings, ten points clear of their arch rivals. A fourth win this weekend would all but secure the title barring any major mishaps.
Relekta's relatively new Norwegian-Brazilian pairing, who came together at the Norwegian Grand, will be aiming to up the pace this weekend and to build on their fifth place finish last time out, as more time on the water gives Christian Zaborowski and Paul Gaiser the opportunity to fine tune and develop their partnership.
Team Abu Dhabi will line up for the first time in their home Grand Prix and in front of a partisan crowd, double race winner, Rashed Al Tayer, and American John Tomlinson will be confident that they have the credentials to target a podium finish after narrowly missing out on their debut outing together in Italy.
After taking podiums in Brazil and Norway, then stepping back from race duties in Sweden, Victory Team's double World Champion Mohammed Al Marri returns to the cockpit to make his 70th Grand Prix appearance in the team's third boat, Victory 2010, teaming up with Italian Giorgio Manuzzi, also returning to racing after double podium success in Norway.
The action starts with first practice on tommorow Wednesday afternoon, a second practice on Thursday morning followed by qualifying in the Edox Pole Position and Race 1 - 53.29Nm, 12 laps including three long laps. A final practice on Friday morning is followed by Race 2 - 71.39Nm, 16 laps, including five long laps.

New Model: Pershing 92

Pershing 92 is the latest model which continues the new idea course as set with the 72 in 2007, and later on followed by the 80, and 64. Continuing its never ending relationship with renowned designed Fulvio De Simoni, the Italian architect and Ferretti AYT based themselves on the hull of the 90 model and present a totally new looking Super Sport Yacht from the exterior. New window profiles, larger aft deck, more spacious interior, and a sport flybridge helm up top which makes more of this unseen area are the novelties for the 92 to the replaced 90 model. Below is a choice for the owner of a four double cabin plan, or three with this choice giving an added bonus of a lower saloon. The galley of the 92 is located to mid ship, next to the crew cabins and lobby. A day head is also found by the stairs on the arrival to the lower deck. Performance which is a high selling point for the Pershing brand gets to the usual forty knots plus, with the 92 having a wide open throttle 41 knots speed, and an all time 38 cruise with twin 2638hp MTU engines.

Project: Baia 24.5 Sevolution

So far this new style of new generation hybrid hulled Explorer style yachts seems to have mostly involved only the large groups as Ferretti or Azimut, so seeing Baia a family yard which produces about thirty boats a year coming with the 24.5 Sevolution innovative project is a reply to all these excuses from some other builders. This is not the first time that Baia thinks out of the box as the South Italian Neapolitan builder has also in the past launched other innovations. Indeed Baia was the first company to use the now famous Arneson surface drives commercially on the B50 in the early eighties, and to invent a removable hard top system for its 48 Flash in 1998. 24.5 Sevolution thinks further featuring an other innovative unedited hybrid hull shape coming from Italy which joins displacement, semi-displacement and planning characteristics all in one. To create this Baia collaborated with the Federico II university of Naples. Not sure if 24.5 is the size here, as Baia on its website article talks for for two yachts of 26 and 29 metres with project speeds of 22 knots max, 18 cruise, and best economy at 16 knots. Various options will also concern to the fitting out from the fore deck, to the flybridge which can be used as entertainment or to stow up to two large private water craft tenders. Baia also speaks of a novelty to what concerns the interior volume where a house style fitting out should be possible. Power to this one deck explorer Super Yacht will be a diverse solution of diesel engines, electrical power, and solar panels with pod propulsion from ZF or the Volvo IPS system to be used. Now the bad news in this very interesting project is that Baia says it will concentrate the 24.5 Sevolution line to only bigger super sizes of 24 metres plus, which considering the recent success the other Italian builder has had with a new fifteen metre model will surely be a lost chance to them.

New Model: Azimut 50 Magellano

One of the most expected models to be presented in Genoa, this was the Azimut 50 Magellano which generated a success to its builder beyond all forecasts as reports say production is sold till well into the 2012 year. There is many references to which this success is given from the dual mode hull by Bill Dixon, Green Plus Rina Certification, Hybrid optional choice with the addition of two electric motors, and to the four choices of the lower deck. As one can see versatility and an Explorer yacht which does not miss many beats from anywhere you look at it is key. The 50 Magellano seems to reply to current yachtsman demands for an economic to run yacht which is not slow as the 18 knots cruise speed says, but is also comfortable at slower speeds. Here Azimut was wise as it applied the concept of last years presented 74 in a more popular size, and this trend is to continue next year when the known Italian builder will present a smaller 40 Magellano with the same concept of ecological boating, dual mode hull, and comforts which come from its faster range of boats but are applied for the first time in this type of yacht.

Projects: Bavaria 43 Sport, Bavaria 43 Sport HT

Bavaria presents the project for a new 43 Sport series to be available in both open and hard top versions, a model which will replace the long standing 42. These new models follow Bavaria revamp of the line as started with the current motor boat flagship the 46 Deep Blue, and continues the collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. The 43 Sport open version will only differ from the HT model for the hard top. The interior will be a three cabins six berths, or two cabins four berths choice, and following recent Bavaria trends a huge size cockpit with what looks an up and down hydraulic platform for tender stowage is to be found. Power will be a choice of Volvo's from 370 up 435hp with selection of stern drive or IPS forward looking pods propulsion. The Bavaria 43 Sport HT hard top version continues the large window area theme as seen on the BMW Group designed Bavaria's offering a technical and functional design. Here as it is visible, a lot is coming from the little sister the 38 Sport HT, with advantage of bigger sizes everywhere. The large sunroof can be opened with an integrated manual soft-top, which is also available to operate electrically. Thanks to the low rim in combination with the optional fold-out pedestal, the driver can look outside the windscreen whilst driving without any obstructions. The front wind screen, and side hard top windows can also be chosen to be heated. For the rest this hard top version is identical to the open 43 Sport, with advantage that a more comfortable use can be made during Winter time.

New Model: Hatteras GT60

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was the the place where Hatteras presented its new GT60. The first installment in the Hatteras GT Series, the 60 is the fore runner of an exciting family of tournament class convertibles designed for serious anglers. Two further projects a 54, and a 63 are scheduled to launch in beginning of the coming 2011 year. Hatteras says that the GT60 is the culmination of fifty years in convertible design and propulsion development, combined with the latest technological advances in materials and methods utilized in fiberglass construction. The new Hatteras GT60 takes its exterior design cues from the current 60, but a newly redesigned cockpit and a touch of panache added to the overall looks give it a unique style of her own. The interior accommodations found in the GT60 are not only more open, but are designed with a level of sophistication not often found in a convertible. Hatteras also offers the option of three lower deck layouts one of which is a four double cabin plan, galley down choice, and an enclosed bridge option. Larger window framing allows for better views, and beautifully combined wall coverings and exotic woods create a more open layout while continuing to provide a warm and luxurious environment. But what is most noticeable about the GT60 is its performance, and as promised by Hatteras this is a forty knot boat as was the special GT Series Edition of the now replaced 60 Convertible model. In fact with the large twin Cats 1900hp power this is the speed of the new GT60 a fast forty knots, which goes down to four nautical miles in all time cruise mode.

Project: Maritimo M48 Cruising Motoryacht Series II

Maritimo is celebrating the one hundred boat milestone for its most popular 48 Cruising Motoryacht with the launch of the Series II model. The M48 Series II takes on a number of the design concepts first seen with the new generation M56 and newly launched M53 Cruising Motoryachts. The hallmark wings over the side decks have been deleted, giving the superstructure a more streamlined look. The hull now sports a large port light on the port side to flood the master stateroom with natural light. Continuing the smoother look, the designers have also deleted the skipper's door to starboard forward in the saloon and extended the starboard lounge forward to the bulkhead. This offers more seating to relax in the spacious saloon. The galley has not been overlooked, with full height refrigerator and full-height swing-out pantry included. Access between the galley and aft cockpit is dramatically improved with bi-fold doors that tuck away to open the entire saloon. Of course the designers have maintained the most popular elements of the original craft first launched in 2007. The new M48 has the hallmark walk-around decks and internal staircase, three cabin two bathroom accommodation, spacious saloon and large flybridge. In fact the flybridge has been slightly extended and a sunroof is now standard. The Maritimo M48 Cruising Motoryacht Series II will be launched in the beginning of 2011.
