Azimut Wins Hat-Trick in Asia Boating Awards 2019

More than just an award, it is now a validation: for the third year in a row, the Italian shipyard has been recognized by the jury of the Asia Boating Awards as the Company that has worked hardest to grow and expand its brand in the region.  As every year, the gala ceremony coincided with the opening of the Singapore Yacht Show; the Azimut Yachts Asia team went on stage to receive the "Best Brand Presence in Asia" award, in recognition of the efforts made to further increase the brand awareness in the region through the organisation of events, innovative marketing activities and a carefully planned and widespread presence, thanks to the network of local service centres and dealers. Promoted by two of the most prestigious Asian magazines, "Asia-Pacific Boating" and "China Boating", the Asia Boating Awards, this year at their 15th edition, are now among the most renowned awards in the world, since, every year, they are able to select the best players in the yachting industry, including shipyards, marinas and yacht clubs, companies in this sector and private individuals.  Marco Valle, Azimut Yachts’ managing director, commented on the news as follows: "The recognition as the best brand in Asia, which comes just a few months after the 'Best Motor Yacht in Asia' award given to our Grande 25 Metri, can only make us even more proud of all the work done in this region, which clearly recognises both the characteristics of Italian design and the cutting-edge technology intrinsic to our models. For years our team has been active in the area, supported by a very good network of local dealers, to increase the strength of the Azimut brand and, above all, to make sure that each customer feels valued and well looked after. And it wasn't long before we got results: today Asia represents for Azimut Yachts a constantly growing market, with increasingly good results achieved in recent years".  Currently, in Asia the shipyard can count on a network of exclusive dealers in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and China.

Feadship Inspires With Rebuild of 1954 Super Yacht

Feadship has embarked on a major rebuild of the 1954 motoryacht Istros, giving this 42-metre superyacht an all-new aluminium superstructure while retaining her elegant original hull. The result will be a virtually brand-new Feadship, built to the highest standards of Feadship quality and featuring the latest equipment.  Istros was originally built by Amsterdam Shipyard Ltd. G. de Vries Lentsch Jr. in 1954 and was one of the largest motor yachts built to date in the Netherlands at that time. Contemporary newspaper articles were most impressed with the luxurious outcome of a two-and-a-half-year project on behalf of the Greek shipping family Pappadakis. One journalist was awestruck by the violet-blue bathrooms, the advanced radar system and, most of all, by a white telephone which could be used to “call people anywhere in the word from wherever in the world the yacht may be.”

The Group’s portfolio grows up to 8 brands confirming its positioning as the leading atelier of the international nautical market.  Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, commented: "A clear and elegant beauty lies even in numbers, and the 2018 fiscal year figures show us once again that making beautiful and unmistakable boats is still the best route to follow and the winning solution for success. It is increasingly clear that "winning easy" is just a slogan and that to stay at the top and grow steadily as Ferretti Group has been doing for some years, it is necessary to move fast and remain responsive in a market that is constantly changing. Our shareholders, who in the 2015-2018 four-year period invested 154 million in Research and Development and reinvested in the company all profits earned are, fortunately, the first and most certain ones about the need to never stop. 'Never change a winning team’ but, if a champion arrives let’s make an exception. That’s why this year Ferretti Group enhanced with the entry of Wally, an extraordinary brand that led the Group, with its 8 world famous brands, to boast the most qualitative and varied range of the entire Italian nautical industry.  Going back to numbers, Galassi continued, “In the last few years we have created and presented to the world 29 new models and, from 2019 to 2021 we are aiming to produce 27 new serial models with an average length of 97.3 feet, pushing us further and further into the construction of large boats. This is possible thanks to a 2018 that consolidated the Group's position from a complete financial relaunch point of view and certified its indisputable commercial capacity. In the navigation world, in exhibitions, in marinas, according to the sector professionals and to the nautical enthusiasts, Made in Italy and Made by Ferretti Group are the most important things, thanks to a record of style and inspiration that has brought us to where we are today and will lead us to even greater goals in the near future."  Furthermore, thanks to the 64 million euro invested in industrial capacity from 2015 to 2018, expansion and renovation works were carried out by the Group's shipyards. In particular, the Super Yacht Yard in Ancona was the focus of an ambitious renovation project aimed at creating an industrial hub at the highest level of innovation, technology and excellence that extended the area to over 80,000 square meters and that by 2020 will provide the plant with 10 construction sheds, a 670-ton travel lift and a private marina with 14 berths available.

Riva Thrills Public with the Master Bridge Tribute

A legendary and moving story told in true Riva style, with passion and originality. “The Master Bridge (La Plancia)”, screened in its premiere during the fourteenth edition of Cortinametraggio, is a tribute by Ferretti Group to the genius of Carlo Riva, two years after his death.  In 15 intense minutes, the film celebrates the historic headquarters in Sarnico. The star of the film, in fact, is the Plancia, Carlo Riva’s famous futuristic office that overlooks Lake Iseo.  Extending out over the lake like a majestic yacht, the office was designed by Riva himself along with architect Giorgio Barilani, and is considered an authentic architectural masterpiece. Carlo Riva was so fond of the Plancia that after he sold the shipyard, he rented it and continued to use it as his office for almost ten years.  The short film highlights the wonders of this magical space and the legendary history of the entire shipyard. The film treatment and direction are by Leopoldo Caggiano, who has already won awards at Cortinametraggio. The film tells the story of the journey of a young filmmaker, played by actor Gabriele Stella, in search of the secret and the essence of the Riva myth. Following an enlightening tour among the yachts under construction and an interview inside the Plancia with an enigmatic Giorgio Marchesi, who plays the shipyard manager, the young filmmaker grasps the enchanting power of the most famous speedboats in the world. The finale, evocative and surprising, is a touch of class that makes the heart race and evokes the poignant strength of the Riva myth.  Intense and measured performances were given by all the actors: along with Giorgio Marchesi and Gabriele Stella, also Elettra Mallaby and Claudia Gambino. “The Master Bridge (La Plancia)” was produced by Maddalena Mayneri’s Reef Comunicazione.  Two years after the death of Carlo Riva, the greatest creator of yachts of the modern era, to whose memory the film is dedicated, The Master Bridge celebrates the essence of Made in Italy craftsmanship, excellence and attention to detail.  Entrepreneurship, master craftsmanship, cutting-edge technologies and innovative design are in fact still the distinguishing features of the brand, enhanced by Ferretti Group and masterfully described in the film.  These are the same distinctive elements that over the years have strengthened the bond between Riva and the world of cinema, winning over international actors like Anita Ekberg, who owned a Tritone, or Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, who used a Junior as the tender of their yacht. As well as Brigitte Bardot, photographed beautiful, wild, and free on the French Riviera on her Florida, or Sean Connery, who owned the historic Rudy model, and on to Sofia Loren and George Clooney. These and many other stars have chosen models from the Riva fleet, the symbol of essential elegance and icon of timeless style.

Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst said: "Our entire Riviera team is proud to support this great sustainable fishing tournament and sincerely thank Russell and Gabriella for an outstanding effort in their first year at the helm. We are delighted, of course, that more than half the fleet this year were Rivieras."

Viking Sixth Annual Key West Challenge

Forty Vikings from 42 to 82 feet and a record 475 participants descended upon the southernmost city in the United States last week for the 6th Annual Viking Key West Challenge. Ben Sharpe was the winning captain for the fourth time, leading the Viking 56 Gypsea to victory.  "The Key West Challenge has been a success every year, but this time around the energy level, excitement and fishing was at an all-time high," said Viking President and CEO Pat Healey.  After a captain's meeting at Dante's Tiki Bar that featured delicious food, fun prizes and lots of camaraderie, the teams headed off the following morning for a glorious day on the water. A total of 45 sailfish were released and one swordfish was caught on day one. Gypsea topped the Day One leaderboard with five sails released followed by the Viking 82 Mr. Grinch with four sails. The Viking 62 Tami Ann also released four sails and took third on time. The teams steamed back to the scales at Conch Harbor Marina to weigh their catches and pose for pictures. The Viking 44 Miss Peggy Sue II and captain/owner David Heeter stole the show with a 108-pound swordfish, which was donated for lunch the next day!  A pool party and lunch, a kids dock tournament and a poker run highlighted a relaxed but festive lay day. In the kids tournament, which was sponsored by The Billfish Foundation, Colin Dicembrino took first place, with sisters Ella and Mia Wilson placing second and third, respectively. "This is what it's all about - passing on the passion for fishing to the next generation," TBF President Ellen Peel said.  The fishing turned white hot on the final day, with 87 sails released. The Viking 48 Fish Wish released eight sails and caught an 8.3-pound dolphin. Last year's champ, the Viking 55 Ragin Cajun, was right on their heels with seven sails and a 21.4-pound tuna.  Gypsea had a solid day two as well, with five sails. But it was their dolphin that turned out to be the difference-maker. With an overall point total of 1,004.6, Gypsea edged second-place finisher Mr. Grinch (1,000 overall points) to take the 2019 Viking Key West Challenge crown. Ragin Cajun landed third place overall with 933.8 points.
