Stolen and Beached in Oregon

A classic twelve meters Hatteras cabin cruiser titled m/y Empress was stolen from South Beach Marina at around 20:30 hours of fourteen July, and then some hours later beached at Lost Creek seven nautical of Newport.  Serving as a liveaboard for a couple Empress was stolen by a 34 year old who will appear to court by the end of the month.  Empress was recovered and taken to a boat yard in Toledo for repairs on 22 July.  She seems to have sustained some small damage to the propellers, with the hull still looking sound.
Empress is a Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin produced from 1965 to 1971. Designed by Hatteras long lasting first generation designer Jack Hargrave, the 41 Twin Cabin, offers a fore and aft cabin layout with a central raised saloon, and powered by twin GM 200 or 300hp in line shaft propulsion.  The Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin replaced the 41 Double Cabin, with the 43 Double Cabin in the fall of 1970 taking its place.

Princess Flybridge Goes Aground Then Sinks Under Tow

A twelve meter Princess flybridge motor cruiser under Malta flag and with a Maltese couple onboard ended aground on the night of fourteen July at around 23:00 hours in Cava d'Aliga, about seven nautical miles to the East of Marina di Ragusa in the South of Sicily.  Some reports are stating the flybridge cruiser was directed to Marina di Ragusa but due to an engine or equipment failure ended aground.  On the day after, Saturday fifteen August an operation was started to move the flybridge cruiser, and tow for repairs to Marina di Ragusa, only for it to mostly sink in eight meters of water while under towing at around 15:00 hours.
The Princess flybridge cruiser in this sinking is a 40 model produced from 1997 to 2003 to a Bernard Olesinski design. Project: Burger 180 Motor Yacht

Celebrating its 160th Anniversary in 2023 as one of the oldest and most respected shipyards in America, Burger is pleased to announce the 180 Motor Yacht currently under construction at the Manitowoc, Wisconsin shipyard. Designed by Gregory C. Marshall and the Burger design team the 180 Motor Yacht provides the ideal opportunity for an American owner to build their yacht at home, in the United States and add their custom touches to its design without the extended engineering duration typical of a yacht of this size. The Burger 180 Motor Yacht is an exciting example of Burger’s continuing creativity and features expansive interior and exterior spaces for its owner and guests, while its mechanical features are intended to make the cruising experience even more comfortable. In addition, each yacht has been designed for full handicapped accessibility, including a large elevator, providing all guests easy access to each of its four decks. The Burger 180 Motor Yacht offers guest accommodation for ten guests including of which is an owners stateroom on the forward part of the main deck, which also features an adjoining office. Crew accommodation is for thirteen persons. The Burger 180 Motor Yacht is to be powered by twin 2366hp Cat engines for a fast cruise speed of fourteen knots, and or an eleven knots four thousand nautical miles long range.  Burger has already sold the first unit of the 180 Motor Yacht with the second hull starting speculation build earlier this year.

New Model: Wally Why150

During the Venice 2023 boat show, Wally debuted its Why150 model.  Just five centimetres over 24 meters in length, the WallyWhy150 is the second model in a range which follows the provocative three meters larger fifty GT more volume Why200 launched in 2021.  With the same team of designers of Bassani for exterior lines and concept, Vallicelli for the interiors, and Ferretti Group for engineering as the larger Why200 sister, the principle of the Why150 is the same, that to put as much usable volume in size possible.  To do this WallyWhy150 is again a full wide body design with its main selling point being again the owners stateroom on the forward part of the main deck which gives three quarters circle uninterrupted views.  A unique master stateroom not found in larger sized super yachts.  The WallyWhy150 though again strikes a unique balance of offering uninterrupted inside and outside spaces, especially on the main deck which offers open spaces which can be fitted as desired by its owner during build, and can be designed to carry a tender up to four meters in length.  The WallyWhy150 is powered by standard triple Volvo 900hp engines with IPS pod drives for speeds up to 21 knots and or optional 1000hp and 23 knots of max speed.  Though provocative and futuristic as Wally can be, the Why series is gaining fans with five units of the Why200 sold thus far, and two more units of Why150 ordered on plan.

Azimut Yacht Saved from Sinking Near Livorno

In the early afternoon of Thursday thirteen July a sixteen meter Azimut motor yacht called a may-day for assistance as it was taking water in its engine room and in risk of sinking.  The Azimut motor yacht left Livorno harbour going direction Cecina, with two persons onboard, when the helmsman noticed that the Azimut yacht slowed down and started to ride bow high.  The Azimut yacht was assisted by two Guardia Costiera vessels, the CP 867 which came from Livorno and the GC B60 fast rib from Cecina, who after calming down the two crew, assisted the yacht to Cecina where a travel lift was ready to take the Azimut up for inspection and eventual repairs.
The Azimut in this near sinking is a 50 Fly model which was presented in the Summer of 2014, and as today is still in production. Coming from a Stefano Righini design the 50 Fly has a three double cabin layout, with an owners stateroom at midships and powered by twin 650hp Cat engines reaches speeds up to 31 knots.  Nine years in production the Azimut 50 Fly has received one modification over the years, with a galley up option available since 2017.

Project: Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman Hull#9

Michael Rybovich has in the end of 2022 starting to build its ninth hull, what will be a 70 Sportfisherman.  Fully custom and to be build in the jig method, Michael Rybovich hull nine will offer a four cabin with three heads interior, with an owners stateroom located forward, and a VIP suite located at midships on starboard side.  The living like most sportfish yachts of this size is on the main deck with a galley forward to starboard featuring a central bar alley, dinette opposite to port, and welcoming sofa on entrance.  Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman is to be powered by twin Cats 2000hp.  Speed estimates are not given, but 68 Sportfisherman Hull#3 had a top speed of 42 knots in a smaller two foot length and one of beam and slightly less powerful engines.  So expect the 70 Sportfisherman Hull#9 wide open throttle numbers around the forty mark.

New Model: Italyure 35

Italyure makes its second step of expansion following the success of its 38 model now in its fifteenth hull after two years of production, enters its new 35 model, called the 35 Furore translated to Fury in project stages.  A one meter smaller to the 38, the first Italyure 35 was sold to a Neapolitan customer and is powered by twin Cummins 355hp engines with line shaft propulsion. Looking nearly identical to its larger 38 sister outside, and offering little less in the exterior accommodation, the difference from the bigger model is in the cabin, with the Italyure 35 offering a lower deck with a double berth forward, and roomy shower head to port side.  For comparison the 38 has two lower deck layouts and can be specified with two cabins, and or single head two cabin version.  The Italyure 35 is also offered in the Sport outboard version with twin Suzuki 350hp.  So far a sterndrive version seems not to be on offer, although being a custom builder, I am sure that if someone asks Italyure to make one, they will do it.

Pursuit Hits Stuart Sand Bar

A ten meter express sportfish cruiser ended aground when it hit a sand bar in Stuart Florida on the late morning of eleven July.  A video doing the rounds on social media shows the sportfish doing sustained planning speeds when it practically stopped to a standstill in a space of a few seconds.  BoatU.s. assisted the express sportfish and surprisingly and thanks to a careful removal it had very little damage, and left the spot with its own steam.  In the same area or very close by a sand bar nearly sank a fifteen meter sportfish in end February and was saved by the same BoatU.s. team.
The sportfish express in this grounding is a Pursuit 3400 Express.  Produced from 1997 till 2002, the 3400 Express is one of the few inboard made Pursuit and is powered by twin Cummins or Volvo 370hp diesels with shafts.  The Pursuit 3400 Express offered an interior sleeping four with a double berth forward and a convertible dinette.
