Bruno Abbate Primatist New Web Site

Bruno Abbate Primatist presents its new World wide web showroom.  Bruno Abbate Primatist was officially founded in 1977 but the builder is a continuation of what was started by Giuseppe Abbate in 1873 on Lake Como, and never stopped since then by the family.  The founding of Bruno Abbate in 1977 also marked the switch to fiberglass for the Como family boat builder.  The first Primatist was the 23, and became instantly a big success with a total production for this model of over 750 units sold in a decade plus of production. In 1995 the G range was created with the launch of the G25 followed by the G29 and G33 on the same year. The G range is a success with its best selling model being the G41 launched in 2002 and sold over one hundred units.  Abbate always means racing since and after World War Two with Alfieri engineering and Giovanardi technician introducing Pamblo the first surface drive mono hull in 1947.  Bruno Abbate continues the racing tradition by competing and winning with the Pinot Gancia dei Gancia the Class One European Championship in 1987, and by breaking records in the one kilometer launch with a Maserati powered boat and a speed of 216.7 km/h in 1996.  Since founding Bruno Abbate Primatist new construction yards have been added, first in 1982 at Grandola e Uniti in Como and then in 2008 with the Arbatax facility in Sardinia. Another important step for the Bruno Abbate Primatist was the agreement with Poalo Pinifarina in 2004.  The first boat to be created from this is the current ever largest sport yacht build by Bruno Abbate the G70 Pininfarina, which is followed by the top selling G46 launched in 2007 and three other models after that.  Today Bruno Abbate Primatist is managed by his son Marco and presents a range of four models; B 41 Pininfarina, G 46 Pininfarina, G 53 Pininfarina, and B 62 Pininfarina.  Bruno Abbate Primatist new website takes you around with the following buttons; Story, Models, Service and Contacts.  Bruno Abbate Primatist is also present on social media Facebook platform with a link located at the bottom of the page.

New Launch: Benetti 67 meter FB268

Benetti is pleased to announce the launch of the 67 meter fully custom FB268 named M/Y Seasense is a full custom superyacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure built for an experienced owner who has chosen the Benetti brand for the first time. The launch ceremony took place in Benetti’s historic Livorno shipyard, perfectly on schedule according to the production plan, with shipyard workers, management, the owner’s representatives and the crew in attendance. The elegant exterior lines of FB268 are by the Dutch designer Cor D. Rover, designing its first Benetti vessel, while the naval architecture was developed by the shipyard’s technical office. The contemporary styling of the interiors, on the other hand, is the result of collaboration between the Benetti’s architects team and the design studio Area from Los Angeles, making its debut in the world of superyachts. The layout includes six suites that can accommodate up to 12 guests. The basic concept underpinning this Benetti superyacht is reflected in its name which has been translated into a design that revolves around the relationship with the surrounding environment. In fact, the owner wanted the outdoor areas to be as spacious as possible, to offer the maximum possible contact with the sea. In particular, the stern area of the main deck is given over to a big pool with a sun-lounging area connected to the peculiar main salon that, through the opening of big sliding doors, provides even more outdoor space for guests. Benetti FB268 is fitted with twin 1380kW Caterpillar engines, it has a top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots. The range at a cost effective speed of 12 knots is 5,000 nautical miles. Final delivery is scheduled for the end of July 2017,

Project: Belize 66 Daybridge

Couple weeks ago we presented the Belize 66 Sedan project on PowerYacht, and here we are showcasing details of the Daybridge with flybridge version.  The Belize 66 Daybridge layout has the choice of a fabric bimini top that covers the helm and forward lounges and a hardtop option which extends cover for almost the entire bridge space. A staircase leads up from the saloon, opening to the helm with skipper and companion chair, a wide dashboard and sports wheel. A viewing lounge is set along the starboard side and, further aft, an L-shaped lounge surrounds a timber dinette. Outdoor food preparation space to port with its large barbecue, sink and long bench top with fridge and plenty of storage under. There is even more storage available aft of the dinette.  The Daybridge option on the Belize 66 comes along other choices; three or four double cabins option for the lower deck, and two main deck option with a choice of an dinette or forward facing lounge settee.

New Model: Fairline 53 Squadron

It was a long time coming for the Fairline 53 Squadron, and ultimately the new model ended up being bit different to the project presented in 2015.  A lot of things have changed since then at Oundle, but the most important is that the British boat builder is run by new dedicated owners nowadays, and they have a present and future plan.  This new 53 Squadron is based on the 50 launched in 2012 and is one of the most versatile flybridge motor yachts ever to come from Fairline, if not from a British boat builder.  Selections for the buyer are endless; two flybridge decks, four main deck, and four lower decks choices.  Custom and semi custom words are very much abused words since boat building became a production entity rather then a build to order one, solely in most cases because you could choose the color of some curtains.  But here we are looking at a lot of versatility to suit different owners needs.  For this alone I do think the Fairline 53 Squadron is above most of its competition in the sixteen meter size, but also a step in the right direction for the British boat builder.
Technical Data:
LOA - 16.92 m (55.6ft) incl pulpit

Project: Mazu 42 Walk-Around

Mazu Yachts has been designing, producing hard-top and open motor yachts since 2011 and have since then created a name for sleek and aggressive looking planing-hull cruisers and yachts built using the cold-molded system. Mazu Yachts stands out of the crowd with their special “hand-crafted build” due to their building technique, which gives the hulls extra strength and lightness.  The center console is the main theme for this 42 Walk-Around project which is a modern superstructure, leaving room for two ample lateral walk-around. Halit Yukay, head designer and owner of the yard, has succeeded in giving the 42 a free board that is high enough to allow movement on deck in complete safety even while at sea, but still keeping her sportive profile with it’s military twist overtones.  On-deck comfort is assured by the ample sun bathing area near the stern, while forward the cockpit is complete with a V-shaped and a second settee forward of the console.  The size of the aft platform has allowed the yard to create a seaside terrace, ideal not only while at anchor but also when moored to the jetty, facilitating coming aboard and going ashore. The presence of a mobile kitchen with Gaggenau appliances ensures leisurely and pleasurable times when at anchor.  The yacht’s eight ton displacement and special hull shape take full advantage of the propulsion system of twin Volvo 435hp with IPS600 pod drives giving the Mazu 42 Walk-around a top speed of 47 knots, with a cruising speed of 32 knots.  Mazu 42 Walk-Around interiors are characterized by generous headroom with elegant minimalist styling featuring use of Alcantara and leather trim created by the Italian company Foglizzo. Forward the 42 Walk-around has a large queen size bed with a comfortable settee to port and a large bathroom with all the features to starboard.

blogger - Positive Times

The last year has been a good positive patch for the nautical industry, and we are seeing important growth numbers by the major boat builders again reported for the first quarter of 2017.  Europe is finally going out of the recession, but in reality this is not the main reason why we are on the positive sign.  The nautical industry has its own macro economics which are different to that of the general economy.  A positive economy helps but it is not just about that.
A foremost reason about the positive period for new boat builders is that finally the over stock of used boats, especially those owned by banks has declined a lot in recent times. In 2016 finding a good boat owned by a bank was difficult.  A boat needing little money spent to go running sell in a month or two with brokers having clients ready for these boats nowadays.
Other reasons why we are having this positive patch is also because of the stability of oil prices in recent times, and that used good boats are selling at a good pace. We also have the problem where not a lot of news boats where build in the period 2010 to 2015 especially in the size of ten to thirty meters.  Most boats in these sizes where build to order.
The fall of the year and major boat shows will be an indication of what the main players are feeling from the market, and how bullish are they on the current positive trends of the last one year plus.  The telling signs will new models and projects presented.

Azimut Wins at Asia Boating Awards 2017

The Italian shipyard wins the “Best Brand Presence in Asia” award for its ongoing commitment to promote the brand in the region.  The 13th edition of the Asia Boating Awards, organised by the influential Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines, rewarded all the work put in by Azimut Yachts in recent years to consolidate the brand’s leadership position on Asian markets.  At the gala event hosted by the ONE°15 Marina in Singapore, Azimut Yachts received the top award in the “Best Brand Presence in Asia” category. The prize recognises the strategy launched by the shipyard more than two years ago to strengthen the brand’s commercial presence in the area, based on the broad network of local single-brand partners, dedicated exclusively to the shipyard’s collections, which Azimut Yachts has been building for some time now. From April 6 to 9, 2017, Azimut Yachts attended the Singapore Yachts Show at Sentosa Cove Marina, in Singapore, with a fleet of six yachts, including two from the Grande collection. The Italian brand has been represented at the show by single-brand dealer Azimut Yachts Singapore, which has been operating in the area since June 2016. At the present time, the shipyard has exclusive dealers in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and China. Commenting on this major award, Azimut Yachts General Manager Marco Valle said: “The Best Brand Presence award sends a clear signal that the initiatives we’ve taken in Asia reflect the needs of local customers perfectly. This is confirmed by first half results, which report over 25% turnover growth in the area on last season. This means we’re successfully conveying all the passion for the sea and the Italian lifestyle for which the Azimut Yachts brand is an international ambassador, and this award encourages us to do even more”.

Ferretti Group Continues on Growth Path

Ferretti Group continues on the growth path: 2016 results over the expectations and further investments for more than 46 million euros in 2017.  Great performance of the first quarter confirms 2017 objectives.  Consolidated production value reached 562.5 million euros, +36% compared to 2015, The EBITDA of 52.7 million euros compared to 7 million euros in 2015 confirms the strong growth trend;  Net profit of 2016 reached 14 million euros.  Ferretti Group presented today in Milan the financial results of 2016 and those of the first quarter of 2017. The Group announced the first elements of a two-year investment plan. 2016 results registered a consolidated production value equal to 562.5 million euros, demonstrating 36% growth compared to 414.8 million euros in 2015. This value is also higher than the one established at the beginning of 2016 at 556 million euros.  The EBITDA, already in positive territory in the first quarter of 2016, managed to surpass the important threshold of 50 million euros at the end of the year, reaching 52.7 million euros compared to 7 million of the previous year. Thus, also this indicator was over the expectations. 2016 is the first year of net profit since 2008. Profit After Taxes (PAT) passed from -29 million euros in 2015 to +14.1 million euros in 2016.  “In a three-year period Ferretti Group proved to be a company able to accomplish a real turn around, obtaining great commercial success, which led to well above expected financial results” commented Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group. “The new models have become the most important drivers of growth thanks to their design, quality and high standards of innovation, which made them objects of desire since their debut.  I’m particularly proud to have led the Group to double-digit net results: profit which the shareholders, Weichai Group and Mr. Piero Ferrari, who never stop supporting the Group, have decided to wholly re-invest in the company.  Moreover, today we are more than proud that the extraordinary success achieved by the Group gave serenity to Carlo Riva’s last years. The objectives of 2017 are challenging but possible to achieve as we can rely on further investments, on an efficient and well performing organization and on 9 new products that Ferretti Group is ready to present to the market.”  In 2017 the Group’s goal is to consolidate its leadership position in the sector after the last two year’s exponential growth, with a serial brand order intake which reached 401 million euros at the end of 2016, increasing by more than 170 million euros in only two years.  The possibility to reach this challenging objective is supported by 2017’s first quarter results. At 31st of March the production value was 145.8 million euros, while in the same period the EBITDA reached 11.3 million euros, with a profit already over 4 million euros.  Ferretti Group also announced further investments for 46.4 million euros, of which 25 million in Research & Development while 21.4 million in the growth of the production capacity. The investments planned for the shipyards, between the end of 2017 and 2018, could bring to a personnel hiring plan for 80 young talents in all production sites, all over Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Marche.  This growth plan will be implemented only in case of a reduction in the company’s labour costs, which could be possible due to the application of the new Welfare regulations, which at the same time guarantee the increase of the employee’s purchasing power. In order to reach this result, the collaboration of the trade unions is essential, thus Ferretti Group intends to reach an agreement as soon as possible with the latter organizations. The hiring will regard in particular the Ancona shipyard, dedicated to the construction of maxi yachts in steel and aluminium of CRN, Riva and Pershing brands and to those of Custom Line in fiberglass.  The construction of all Custom Line models will be moved to the Group’s “Superyacht Yard” in Marche, where at the moment all semi-displacement vessels are built, enabling to concentrate in Ancona the building of the maxi fibreglass planing yachts too.

Sunseeker Returns to Profit

Sunseeker International Holdings Limited (SIHL) audited accounts reveal that it moved back to profit with a £6 million (EBITDA) for the year ending 31st December 2016. This was a defining year for Sunseeker, during which it delivered five new models, a record number for any one year, and saw its forward order book increase by 41% by volume year-on-year.  The figures reflect a £36 million (EBITDA) profit improvement since 2014 and are the result of a significant restructuring and refocusing of the business, together with substantial investment across new product, improved facilities and its people. The market reaction to these new products has been particularly strong and has helped the business increase revenue by 25% from £202.6 million in 2015 to £252.4 million, creating a strong platform for future profitable growth. As well as creating over 400 new jobs since 2014, the company has announced plans to recruit a further 170 people in 2017 to support further volume growth.  Sunseeker launched a record five new models across the size range in 2016 from the Manhattan 52 and Predator 68 to the larger 95, 116 and 131 Yachts, collectively securing over £220 million of orders at retail value to-date. The Manhattan 52, which won the award for ‘Best Flybridge up to 55ft’ at the 2017 Motor Boat Awards, is now the brand’s fastest-selling model to-date with over 80 retail orders in its first five months.  Phil Popham, CEO of Sunseeker commented: “It has been a remarkable turnaround in such a short space of time and much of this can be attributed to our strategy to continually invest across the key areas of the business, especially our products. New and exciting products breed growth in this market and the response we have had for our latest models has been nothing short of incredible. We are confident this is going to continue too as we will be investing a further £50 million across the business to support a bold product plan that will see many more new introductions over the next few years.”  He continues, “2016 has been a defining year for Sunseeker and I’d like to personally thank the whole Sunseeker team for their hard work and dedication and our shareholder Wanda Group for their continued support to help make this possible. The business is on a fresh course, not just to strengthen our position as Britain’s largest boat builder, but as the global leader for luxury performance superyachts. All this, underpinned by a strong forward order book, means we are extremely excited about the future.”  The multiple product model launches are set to continue as part of a long-term product plan, which will see several new model introductions over the next five years. Already in 2017, Sunseeker has launched two new models, the Manhattan 66 and 68 Sport Yacht, which were revealed at the London Boat show in January, and further introductions are planned for later in the year.

Viking 53 Years

Fifty-three years ago on April 1, marks the start of the Viking Yacht Company when brothers Bill and Bob Healey began their boat building careers. Wood was choice material back then and the brothers focused on producing traditional-looking cruising and fishing boats built in a small factory with dirt floors and no heat. In the early days, the brothers followed the trends of the various South Jersey boat builders and catered to a growing market that was expanding into motor yachts. But the Atlantic City born brothers would not stay in the shadow of others for long. Following was not their style. Instead they would lead with a passion to build a better boat every day. When fiberglass was emerging as the new wave for boat building, Viking wasted no time embracing this material. In 1972 Viking launched the 40 Sedan Fisherman with a unique engine mounting system featuring structural steel web frame I-beams well suited for diesel installations.  This boat would remain in production for 16 years in various configurations as 40/41 models. With over 600 built, it is an industry legend and many of them remain in use around the world. The 1980s was a pivotal decade in the history of Viking. Boats were getting larger, faster and lavishly equipped with luxurious amenities. The popularity of boating was growing in leaps and bounds and Viking complied with a fleet that expanded from three models to more than 10, from 35 to 50 feet. A federal luxury tax instituted in 1991 crushed the marine industry for three years as buyers avoided the tax and refused to order new boats. Marine manufacturers and dealers struggled to stay in business. Many did not, and thousands of marine related jobs evaporated from the waterfront. Viking struggled like many and saw its workforce gutted from 1,500 employees to 65. Bob Healey took on Washington and led protests, attended government meetings and fought back through 1993 to get the tax repealed.  Meanwhile at Viking, Bill Healey and the skeleton crew kept the doors open and worked on new designs. When the tax was finally repealed, buyers came back slowly at first, but the pace picked up when they saw Viking was ready with fresh and new designs. At the 1997 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the Viking 55 was unveiled and proved to be a turning point for the company, that let us leapfrog over the competition. The Viking Yacht Company entered the 2000s like an 18-wheeler on steroids. Larger models ruled and the Viking 70C set a new bar for big convertibles. Always showcasing new models, Viking ruled the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in 2014 with an incredible 92 Convertible.  Across the dock was the Viking 75 Motor Yacht representing a return to this portion of the market. The 80 Convertible followed a year later. Last fall the 72 Convertible joined the fleet to rave reviews. As Viking enters its 54th year of continuous operation it will be interesting what it will offer to continue reign leading the industry.

Project: Horizon FD87 Skyline

As clients evolve and become involved in the process, changes to the original drawings are inevitable. Such is the case of the FD87 Skyline motoryacht, a brand new addition to Horizon’s Fast Displacement series, whose design was inspired by one client’s lifestyle request. The FD87 now joins the FD74, FD85 and FD102 models that comprise the builder’s latest series which may well extend to a new FD122 in the not too distant future.  Cor D. Rover, who designed the Fast Displacement series in partnership with Horizon’s in-house naval architecture team, returned to the drawing boards to collaborate with the team on the design for the FD87 Skyline, which will debut a cool blue hull and contrasting white superstructure with an enclosed bridge as well as Horizon’s new High Performance Piercing Bow HPPB.  Springing from the eye-catching FD85, the FD87 Skyline retains many of the 85’s unique features, including an expansive seven meter plus beam, spacious on-deck Master with four further guest staterooms and two crew cabins on the lower deck, and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows in the salon and dining areas inviting an abundance of natural light within the interior.  In place of the raised pilothouse found on the FD85, the FD87 Skyline boasts a fully enclosed bridge with access to a Portuguese walkway leading forward to the bow and an inviting seating area. The enclosed bridge provides additional indoor entertaining and lounging areas while allowing for an extended boating season in colder climates.  A newly popular design for the U.S. market, the FD87 Skyline also features a spacious beach club and swim platform aft, which provides a perfect spot for relaxing close to the water or enjoying water sports activities.  The FD87 Skyline will be fitted with stabilizers, Cats 1136hp engines and a 13170 liters fuel capacity that will yield a nearly 2000 nm range at nine knots. The first FD87 Skyline will deliver to its owners later on in 2017.

Cerri Cantieri Navali has launched its 50m Fuoriserie.  Named M/Y Elsea this latest Cerri launch is the largest build to date by the Italian Tuscany boat builder.  This ambitious project has been penciled by design firm Studio Bacigalupo, while the interiors are by Studio Vafiadis, with Imperial acting as owner’s representative, construction supervisor and manager during the build and after the delivery.  50m Fuoriserie features an aluminum semi-planning hull and marks another step forward in CCN’s construction technique. For the first time,in fact, the shipyard embarked upon the construction of a large fully custom super yacht relying on a management that has gained great expertise in important Italian shipyards and on a highly-qualified, specially selected labor force.  The new yacht has an aggressive, slender profile and can ensure an outstanding maximum speed of 27 knots and cruising speed of 18 knots thanks to three MTU 2600hp engines.  The layout reserves large areas for conviviality, both on the main deck where the living and dining areas, as well as the full beam master cabin found on the upper deck, which is entirely devoted to life in the open air.  The interiors are intended to be a tribute to the fine deco design developed with a key of modernity. A parallelism made of reflecting surfaces and precious exotic woods, together with many stainless steel details that underline the bold shapes and create a very harming contrast between materials.  The living of the new Cerri flagship features two different salons each with its own personality. The first on the main deck is more formal and has also a very spacious dining table for twelve people. The other one on the upper deck, that can be also as a cinema, has a very warm and cozy touch and is distinguished by a huge circular sofa that helps creating the family style attitude.  The outdoor is for giving an informal but always posh allure to the boat. The style of these area is very Mediterranean, taking inspiration from the French Riviera, like for example the external salons or the beach club, with a bar and a day toilet, plus an audio system with speakers ready to challenge the best clubs. Just right out of the upper salon we find a spectacular external area that serves as a party lounge with a central custom jacuzzi decorated with splendid mosaics inside. Around the pool a collection of sun beds and comfortable seating areas that creates the perfect environment for fun, sunbathing and relax. Great attention is also paid to light underlines the shapes of the furniture pieces, most of them customized, both with spot light, wisely distributed, and also with LED stripes that enriches the interiors and create an atmosphere.  Onboard the Cerri 50m Fuoriserie we find the most unique collection of materials, from precious crystal lamps and decorations to back lighted onyx surfaces (heated to be always pleasant to the touch) passing through exotic woods with dramatic veneers and inox details giving the complexity and decoration to the design as the pedigree of the yacht imposes.
