Cigarette Prepare for Battle

For 40 years, Cigarette, the icon for all go-fast boats has built its reputation on quality, performance and visual appeal. From boats to it’s sometimes risqué advertising, the allure of a Cigarette has been sex appeal and a commanding appearance. However, as the country's defense market grew supporting the Homeland Security, military and law enforcement segments, Cigarette prepared to serve its country. The company developed a "Military" version of its 39 Top Fish center console, providing a utilitarian, no-frills approach to changing a custom fishing boat into a sturdy, top-quality work boat. The cockpit was designed with an all-digital console including GPS and navigation. The arrangement of the dash wraps around the cluster of instruments for ideal visibility. Throttles and trim tabs are practically located for ease of operation; the custom hard-top and support mechanisms remain as in all Cigarette center console models. The custom seating is notable, utilizing Stidd Systems, a leading manufacturer of ergonomic marine seats. The model used was originally developed for the US Navy Seals' boats and was modified exclusively for Cigarette to provide the proper center of gravity for the passengers and boat. The shock-mitigating seats are uncoated aluminum, with high-tenacity polyester upholstery, covering a proprietary foam base, providing safety for long duration and open water transit. Cigarette's construction team also created a custom support for the seats to provide optimal comfort, strength and durability in rough seas. The boat is Mercury powered, as with all Cigarettes, and for its Top Fish, Cigarette prefers either triple or quadruple Verado 6-cylinder engines. The Military boat is equipped with triple 300's-providing smooth acceleration, reliability and fuel-efficient power.

Pershing Yachting Cup Cortina

Everything is in place for sea lovers’ most eagerly-awaited winter appointment. The 2010 Ski Yachting Team Cup, the combined sailing-skiing challenge organised by Yacht Club Cortina d'Ampezzo, will be held from 29th to 31st January. This year, changes have been made to the organisation of the event. The trophy will lead to nomination of the team which best demonstrates its skill both on the snow, between the gates of a huge slalom, and in the water, amongst the buoys of a regatta course. Sponsor par excellence for the second year running will be Stardom, exclusive distributor of the Pershing brand for Italy, which has renewed its commitment to support an event which awards the most authentic of sporting values. The reliability trial will be the highlight of the event on Saturday, 30th January, during which each team will aim to repeat the times of each of the two rounds held on the same routes. The two best times will be noted down. Consequently, this is not a true race of speed, but rather a testing bench, where technical skill and strategy are the decisive elements for drawing up the rating of the skiing stage. The second part of the event, on the other hand, will take place this summer, on occasion of the main stages of the Melges 20, Melges 24 and Melges 32 regatta circuits, the most widespread, competitive sailing classes. An original, and indeed unique idea, the aim of which is to strengthen the close ties uniting the worlds of skiing and sailing, which have the same essential values: speed, a competitive spirit and a passion for new challenges. Lastly, when the alpine stage of the event comes to a close, an exclusive party will be held at the Cristallo Palace Hotel, seat of the YCCA clubhouse and an important reference point for all Stardom clients, present all year round with its own area. This will be the opportunity to award those members of the Yacht Club who distinguished themselves during the year, and present the Pershing Trophy to the top positions in the three ratings. Team work, an extraordinary performance and passion make Pershing and Stardom ideal partners, placing the very best of technology, total reliability and constant innovation at the service of sport.

Riviera Creditors Meeting

At a meeting held today in Brisbane the creditors of Riviera, Australia’s largest luxury boat builder, voted in favour of a Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA) that will see all current and former employees receive their full entitlements and a dividend paid to unsecured creditors. During the receivership the operations of Riviera have been restructured to achieve greater efficiency and continued production of high quality Riviera vessels. The DOCA is a further step in restructuring Riviera and enabling it to trade in its own right, outside of formal administration processes. In effect, completion of the terms of the DOCA will bring to an end the official appointment of Voluntary Administrators to Riviera. This will allow the receivers and Riviera management to continue to improve and grow the Riviera business. This significant agreement was reached with overwhelming support from creditors for the DOCA covering five trading entities within the Riviera Group of companies. The DOCA covers the current Riviera trading entities; Riviera Marine (INT.) Pty Limited, R Marine Pittwater Pty Limited, Riviera Runaway Bay Pty Limited, Riviera Coomera Pty Limited and Riviera Marine (MFG) Pty Limited. The eight remaining, non trading entities of the Riviera Group are no longer required given the corporate rationalisation and restructuring of the group and so are not included in the DOCA. Under the terms of the DOCA, former employees of the Riviera DOCA companies will receive all of their unpaid wages, superannuation, annual leave and any relevant redundancy payment. Current Riviera employee’s entitlements will continue to accrue and be available to those employees in the ordinary course of business. Creditors will also benefit from the terms of the DOCA with a dividend being paid to unsecured creditors. Under the terms of the DOCA, former employees entitlements will be paid by the Receivers and Managers by April 30, 2010 and funds will be paid to the Administrators by 30 June 2010 to enable a dividend to be paid to unsecured creditors. This will result in the Riviera DOCA companies coming out of administration.

Sunseeker Recognized as Product of Civilization

Sunseeker International, the world's largest privately owned yacht builder, has been credited within a recent article in The Times newspaper as the manufacturer of a product 'of importance in civilization'. The article by Stephen Bayley, titled 'Britain should be a workshop, not a casino' and published on 11th January, suggested that since 1980 just three British companies, one of which is Sunseeker, could be considered suitable for such an accolade. He endorses the entrepreneurial spirit of the UK manufacturing industry and recognises the process of "making real products" is "far superior" to business, which sets out to maximise financial return without designing or building anything. Sunseeker International is this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Friars Cliff Marine Limited, the company from which Sunseeker International was developed from a dinghy and outboard sales company, to one of the world's leading luxury motoryacht brands. In a difficult market Sunseeker has maintained its status as the UK's largest production boat builder and last year reported a turnover of £310 million.

Sunseeker Hosts Swing at London Boat Show

During the late-night open evening at the London International Boat Show on Thursday 14th January at Excel, Sunseeker International, the world's largest privately owned yacht builder, hosted a special program of entertainment on its stand (S040), including performances from musical ensemble, the Rat Pack, and performance troupe, the Hollywood Hoppers. The Rat Pack is a nine-piece band with vocals who will play a wide selection of music including swing, jive, Latin and retro pop tracks. Dancing with the Rat Pack was the Hollywood Hoppers, an authentic Lindy Hop performance troupe. The Hoppers are an enthusiastic group of professional and semi-professional dancers who specialize in re-creating the dances from the roaring '20s, through the swinging '30s and '40s, to the rock & roll 1950s. They are choreographed by UK Champions, Robert and Claire Austin, who base their routines on moves from original footage to create a dynamic and exciting show. Joining them was the Adagio Statues, two 'marble' statuesque figures set on a classical white podium who very slowly come to life through a mesmerizing fusion of strength, grace and fluid movement.

Project: Ferretti 800

Ferretti present the project of a new 800 model. Designed as all the range by Giovanni Zuccon with the technical side covered by Ferretti's AYT department, the 800 at eighty feet stands at the super yacht category entrance, and will be of a flybridge two deck style. The rendering does give a bit the idea for it to be a two and a half decked yacht, but actually it is not. The 800 will have an innovative plan layout with the galley moved to the furthest fore part of the interior main deck, and the two crew cabins located at the tip of the bow below. The crew quarters and galley are actually connected together. This solution is often seen on yachts close to fifty metres and is used because it easily separates the crew from running around the guests when not needed. It also gives more space to the lower deck by moving the engines further aft, and adds length to the main saloon because of the galley now moved to fore. The owner and guest accommodation is for a four cabin layout all with en-suite heads, with what is a standard plan configuration for this size. Full beam owners suite to midship, VIP to fore, double cabin to port, and twin L-shaped to starboard. Finishing inside will be with elm wood, leather and melange fabrics all toned to a light beige color to give a natural light feel thanks to the big view windows located in every part of the Super Yacht. The 800 will also offer a C-shaped settee to fore. Ferretti where among the first to offer an exterior fore settee on deck with the 690 Altura back in 2005, but never actually showed this on its standard line as before this 800 project. Performance is an estimated top speed of 31 knots from twin 1800hp MAN, which so far seems the only power option for the 800.

New Model: Galeon 340 Fly

PowerYacht made you follow the making of Galeon's new 340 Fly, from its project design released in October, to the INBUILD four part story. So now it is fitting to show exclusive pictures of the finished flybridge Motor Cruiser, especially for those who could not make to its first World preview in Dusseldorf during the current week. The 340 Fly will be a big challenge for Galeon as it targets to beat its best sold model, that is the 330 Fly delivered in over two hundred examples till the past Summer. Surely the 340 Fly has all the making to challenge the 330 records with its modern exterior which is very similar to Galeon's 640 flybridge flagship, luxurious fittings, and a unique three cabin interior. This last feature very unheard in flybridge boats under thirteen metres. Still for the fans of the 330 Fly, Galeon so far has decided to keep it in production along the 340 for at least the 2010 season. None the less the 340 Fly is built on the success that is the 330 and builds on its bases to present a better more modern flybridge motor cruiser, with the addition in length giving further cockpit space, bigger flybridge, and an extended bathing platform. Hull number one was fitted with wenge wood fittings, but a light colored oak veneer choice is also available. Power will be from twin Volvo's up to 300hp, with stern drive as propulsion, which give estimated top speeds up to 35 knots.

Improve-it = Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea

Kadey-Krogen has been building the 48 North Sea since 1996 and over the years, like all the models, it has evolved and changed as a result of owner feedback and advancements in technology. The 48 North Sea remains one of the most popular models and today’s new improved version is the embodiment of the company’s competencies. Owner feedback was the driving force in changes made to the 48 North Sea all of which enhance the live ability of the boat. The centerpiece of the improved 48 North Sea is the newly enlarged galley which now features a four-burner Viking range, household sized refrigeration as standard, and there is room for a trash compactor and dishwasher as optionals. Stainless steel is standard on the appliances although traditional finishes are available. Kadey-Krogen also completely re engineered the flybridge. Instead of a center line helm flanked by settees running fore and aft, the flybridge piloting station is now off to starboard with an L-shaped settee to port that extends the entertainment space of the boat and makes cruising on the flybridge more comfortable for guests. The flybridge also has a summer kitchen, a feature that contributes to the boat’s self-sufficient capabilities and is popular with owners who entertain on the hook. The second reinvented and improved 48 North Sea is underway to the East Coast for owners Will and Sue Parry who believe this boat will bring them full circle in their fifth Kadey-Krogen experience, and the first arrived in Seattle last fall.

Project: Pearl 75

British Pearl Yachts presents the project of a new flagship, with the renderings showcasing a 75 model. Surprising its fan and competitors this new flagship project abandons the very British aft cabin design as seen on the previous Pearl models. The Pearl 75 brings together large spaces with luxurious styling and outstanding levels of comfort, added with easy manoeuvrability, a rather large flybridge, jet ski garage, and a hydraulic bathing platform. Vast areas of glass surfaces maximise natural light in the saloon, galley and internal helm areas creating bright, open spaces. While large rectangular bonded glass port lights flood the cabins with sunlight by day, and moonlight by night. The Pearl 75 boasts a standard four cabin eight berth guest interior where multiple layout and styling options ensure each yacht is created to meet personal requirements. Power options are still under confirmation but quadruple pod units are under huge consideration, although this is still to be confirmed. If that will be case this will be the first European build flybridge motor yacht to be powered in this manner. Estimated speeds are for a max of 32 knots, a cruise of 25 knots, and a medium range of 350 nautical miles.

New Model: Beneteau 34 Swift Trawler S

As has been from Beneteau in recent times, the 1884 founded French builder innovates and offers different versions to its models. This is the case with the 34 Swift Trawler S, which is a 34 Swift Trawler but without the second helm flybridge up top. Yes as the above pictures shows you still have ladder to go up top, but that is because the 34 Swift Trawler S has made space use above for storage space, or a sun bathing one. The 34 Swift Trawler S thanks to its lower height can also be an ideal inland water ways canal explorer cruiser. For the remaining of it the 34 Swift Trawler S is the same as the standard fall of 2009 introduced flybridge version, offering four berths in two cabins below, additional extra two berths in the saloon, and 21 knots top speed with a single engine.

This new enclosed flying bridge for the 76 Convertible offers a raised control station forward and a second pod style helm on the aft deck for docking. A Stidd helm seat at the forward interior station is flanked with companion seats port and starboard. Creating what is essentially a second salon, the expansive area abaft the helm includes an L-shaped lounge with a cocktail table on a raised platform for enhanced visibility, a 32-inch flat screen television, which rises out of the teak cabinetry, an audio system, a refrigerator with built-in icemaker, plush carpeting and a baby ostrich headliner. Project: Absolute 50 Fly

Italian Absolute continue its New Wave thinking and surprise its competitors and clients by presenting a flybridge motor yacht project with the 50 Fly. This new model will also be the initiative of a new Fly line from Absolute, so expect more to come from the North Italian builder and be assured that after this one is launched during the coming fall, it will soon be followed by a full line of flybridge boats in a couple of years. The interior layout is for a living on the main deck with galley, saloon, and three double cabins below. The layout is surprising for the fact that the owners suite is to fore. I am sure that seeing the big view windows to midship you would have thought otherwise. A VIP stateroom, the double cabin to midship, and a guest head complete the lower deck layout. Absolute is also thinking for extra comfort in its first motor yacht by offering a hard top on the flybridge, crew cabin, and a hydraulic up and down platform as standard. As expected from Absolute the 50 Fly will be powered by Volvo IPS600 in a standard twin version, or a more performing triple engine choice. The North Italian Absolute has huge experience with the use of Volvo IPS pods, being one of the early users and the first to put a triple engine set up on its 56. Today IPS pods drive seven out of eight in its current line up, all this being well promising for the performance of this flybridge motor yacht project.

A much expected model the 2850 Sports Cruiser is based on the popular 2800 Sports Cruiser, and captures a review of the Australian boat builder entry level sport cruiser market offer. The 2850 will make its way around Australia and New Zealand in the coming weeks. Mustang says the 2850 Sport Cruiser takes all that was good in the 2800 and adds a range of the latest innovations, with extra living and entertaining space. The 2850 Sport Cruiser now has more beam to provide extra room in the cockpit area, and below decks. The galley has been moved from below deck to the cockpit deck, providing more comfort, access when entertaining with your family and friends. Down below is a full standing head room even in the separate shower toilet. As seen on other Mustang models, even on its entry level model the Aussie builder integrates latest technology features as the touch screen electrical control panel, Finscan fingerprint starting technology, Smart Craft gauges, electric engine room access, and latest entertainment systems. Steps leading to the foredeck, boarding ladder to stern will ensure safe easy access whilst on the boat in and out of the water. For anyone considering getting into boating, the 2850 Sports Cruiser should be well inspected as it offers a lot although to make it work in Europe I do suggest Mustang to put a diesel engine option, as well as bigger fuel tanks. A more sportier version of the 2850 named Super Sports is also on the works.
