New Model: Grand Banks 43 EU Heritage

An evolution of the 41 EU Heritage, Grand Banks World presented the new 43 EU and the just passed 2012 Fort Lauderdale boat show.  This model is a further refinement of Grand Banks much appreciated pod drive propelled unit featuring a thirty per cent larger cockpit, bigger staterooms and a second head.  The Grand Banks 43 EU builds more on the revolution of the modern trawler that was presented in 2007 with the 41 for owners around the world. Other new features for the 43 EU are over sized view windows on both hull sides to port and starboard, and a larger hatch for the forward located owners stateroom.  The flybridge has also been extended with the option of a 350kg crane davit.  Fuel reserve has also been increased in the 43 by twenty per cent that is about 400 extra liters for a longer cruising range.  Power is twin Cummins 480hp with ZF Zeus pods giving a 24 knots max speed, and a 20 fast cruise.

Engine: FPT N67 570hp

As well as attaining compliance with future EPA Tier 3 exhaust emission regulations FPT Industrial has also completely revised the most representative of its marine models. The new N67 570 features a 6 cylinder in-line architecture with a 6,7 litre displacement, 4 valves per cylinder, second generation electronically controlled Common Rail fuel injection system and a turbocharger with waste-gate and intercooler. Compared to the previous version, apart from a 10 HP power increase, the engine above all offers a new lay-out and the optimization of the lubrication, cooling, air-feeding and exhaust systems. The cylinder block, reinforced by its "ladder frame" structure, remains the same, having exhaustively demonstrated its reliability even under the high mechanical stresses of endurance racing. As its key technical figures illustrate; weight/power ratio 1.14 Kg/HP, power/displacement ratio 85 HP/litre and volume/power ratio 1.31 dm3/HP, the new engine not only maintains the leadership in its class but actually increases the gap between itself and its rivals. The N67 570 incorporates numerous significant changes and optimised solutions amply tested in successful speed and endurance racing, a highly effective test bed to explore the true limits of power and reliability of an engine.  Furthermore, FPT Industrial's great experience in the production of the NEF Series engines is testified by the numbers; last July the Turin Engine plant has indeed produced the one millionth NEF engine, being in production since 2000.

Project: Viking 62 Convertible

During the just finished Fort Lauderdale boat show, Viking has shown plans for an upcoming new 62 Convertible model to be launched in January 2013 during the company VIP preview weekend in Florida.  The 62 Convertible continues Viking recent pursuits with a sleek reverse sheer line, and a flash fore deck.  Inside it will feature four double cabins, served by three shower heads.  The owners room is located to starboard midships, and a VIP suite is located to fore.  The other two guest cabins are both bunks and located to port side.  The main deck continues the Viking following of the standard sportfish layout with a welcoming saloon, dining area, and a galley with island bar.  Power details are not announced but I would imagine a top speed of forty knots with the top tier engine possible, as has been in all the recent big Viking.

New Model: Beneteau 50 Swift Trawler

With this latest 50 Swift Trawler, I think Beneteau and designer Joubert-Nivelt break a bit the schematics of the line not only in the looks department which are more modern, but also under the water line for offering Volvo IPS pod propulsion in this series for the very first time.   Anyways the Swift Trawler range is a bit the compromise for those who want an explorer cruiser or yacht with a more modern style and a medium range possible with some fuel savings.  The 50 Swift Trawler offers an interesting spacious accommodation plan in all areas from the flybridge to its all around deck, and a full beam midships owners cabin.  A three double cabins plan is featured below with the option in layout two to make the double bunk cabin to port side into an office and having one berth.  The main deck is split level with a galley behind the helm and welcoming saloon to aft.  Power is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS pods.

New Model: Austin Parker 36 Natante

Austin Parker show its very attention to the market when presenting the new 36 Natante, this last word meaning small craft on the Italian registration.  Since presenting its new course with the 42 Open, Austin Parker has always looked at larger models expanding its size up to the 72 launched in 2010.  Now seeing the big U-turn in the economy and the fiscal benefits in the smaller sizes, Austin Parker was fast to react presenting a smaller new entry level model the 36 Natante.  Designed as all the line by famed Italian Fulvio de Simoni the 36 Natante definitely strikes for its sweet contemporary classic lines, which apart looking awesome also work very well and keep the unique family feeling of the line.  The layout of the Austin Parker seems to keep well with a mix of down East lobster looks with Mediterranean users practicality offering a cockpit deck with three L-shaped settees and a wet bar, and a lower deck with an open layout offering a V-double berth to fore, L-shaped saloon, galley, and a separate shower head to port side. Austin Parker makes a big statement with the the 36 Natante that smaller does not mean cheaper. Power is twin Volvo 300hp with IPS pods giving a max speed up to 34 knots and a cruise of 30.

New Model: XL Marine 51 HT S

After showing us the renderings of the 51 HT back last year in 2011, XL Marine finally launch and put this latest model into the water this summer 2012.  Unlike the announced project the first of the 51 HT was also an S version, which means it is equipped with the high speeds surface drive propulsion, increasing top end performance by around fifteen per cent.  Always very custom in its details so far in all the models produced the 51 HT S also featured some distinctive details, as a sofa to port in replacement of a wet bar in the cockpit, and an aft crew cabin.  For the lower deck the owner of the XL Marine 51 HT S decided for the standard more traditional layout with owners room to fore, VIP cabin to port, and a twin berths cabin at starboard, with an L-shaped saloon and galley in between the cabins.  Two shower heads serve the cabins to forward, one en-suite for the owner to port, and the other for the guests opposite.  Finishing for this launch is in white sprayed wood, with floor and table tops in Wenge.  Power for this model is from the large choice of twin MAN 1000hp with Arneson surface drives propulsion giving max speed of 45 knots, and 40 of cruise.  Worth to note that in the initial test with larger propellers and a light load the XL Marine 51 HT S achieved 49 knots top end, but the central Italian boat builder decided for a more conservative choice delivering also better lower planning speeds.
