New Model: Fairline 44 Targa Gran Turismo

Presented as a project last September Fairline presents the new Fairline 44 Targa Gran Turismo, which replaces the successful 43 Targa after 9 years of production. The new Targa continues the hard top philosophy of the bigger Gran Turismo models and joins new technology by adopting Volvo Penta’s revolutionary IPS (Inboard Performance System) with its unique forward facing dual propeller units, which deliver around 15% faster acceleration, 20% greater top speed, and up to 30% better fuel economy. Fairline admit that they were impressed by the new propulsion performance, fuel economy and ease of boat handling provided by the joystick manoeuvring control, that they designed this latest Targa around the IPS. The 44 Targa features a brand new deep-V hull design to make the most of the system and the boat has undergone two years of testing before starting production. This new model also features a patented hard top system, that rapidly converts the airy spacious cockpit into a cosy deck saloon at the flick of a switch. The luxurious accommodation both above and below deck includes a sumptuous master and guest cabin, day-access toilet, well equipped galley, large bathing platform and plenty of sunbathing space.

America's Cup - Alinghi Defends and Wins the 32nd Edition

Alinghi won the 32nd America’s Cup on Tuesday afternoon on the waters off Valencia. The Swiss Defender won its fourth consecutive race in dramatic fashion, by just one second, to win the Match 5-2.
This final race of the America’s Cup was befitting of what has been the closest, most exciting America’s Cup in recent history. Emirates Team New Zealand spent much of the race ahead on the advantage line, but with Alinghi in strong tactical position on the right hand side of the race course.
It was a perfect day for racing on the waters off Valencia, with the bright, warm, Valencian sun generating a strong 14 to 17 knot sea breeze until the final moments of the race.
That scoreline doesn’t reflect just how close the racing was. In each of the last three races Alinghi has had to come from behind to snatch its victory. None was closer than the last contest when the Swiss were barely able to hold on for a ‘photo-finish’ win over the challenger, Emirates Team New Zealand.
Shortly after crossing the finishing line to guarantee the successful defence, Alinghi President and afterguard member Ernesto Bertarelli hoisted the America’s Cup trophy over his head, his team at his side, in front of a crowd of nearly 40 000 who had gathered in Port America’s Cup to share in the excitement.
The Commodore of the Société Nautique de Genève, Pierre-Yves Firmenich, and Michel Bonnefous, the CEO of the organisers of the 32nd America’s Cup, were on hand at the prize giving to see the team members of Alinghi pass the trophy from hand to hand, one to the other.

Project: Otam 45 Heritage

Italian boatbuilder Otam has restyled the external lines and deck lay-out of its Heritage 45 motoryacht to optimise the cohesion between shape, functionality and technology. The new windscreen has been modified in shape and size, and complements a new dashboard and sporty-look bridge. Its tread plate is made entirely of teak with wide staves resting on an underlying fibreglass structure. In line with Otam's philosophy the 45 also has features to reflect the owner's personality: a metallic hull and deck colour can be chosen for internal lacquering as well. The interior further features black walnut woodwork, a neutral fitted carpet with a coconut style weave and leather sofa. It is subdivided into a spacious cabin for the owner with a bath and shower ensuite, a convertible dinette and stow-able kitchenette, guest cabin and a guest bathroom with shower. Powered by two Cat C12 engines of 710hp the yacht can reach a maximum speed of 45kt, but a super sport option of two Cat C18 engines with 1000hp is also available - and this will reach maximum speeds of 56kt.
