New Model: Sessa C47

Sessa present the new C47, a fully enclosed hard top coupe which shares hull and most of the lines with the upcoming Fly 47 model with a slightly different upper structure.  Unlike some other sport cruisers of the segment who share flybridge sport cruiser platforms the C47 still looks sleek in its hard-top version, and it actually looks like it was made this way. Rightly so Sessa calls the C47 dynamic sport which is totally correct, especially when one notes its practical side from the yacht like walk around deck, to its three cabins interior, and aft galley layout on the main deck.  The Sessa C47 is standard powered by twin Volvo 380hp, or optional 440hp and or 480hp engines with IPS pod propulsion.

Improve-It = Sessa Key Largo 24 IB

Sessa improve the Christian Grande designed Key Largo 24 IB model presented in preview at the Genoa Boat Show.  These improvements are demonstration of how Sessa continues to believe that the future needs the past, and that never like in these new versions, tradition meets innovation.  A model that continuously evolves and challenge: a timeless design, with an even more aggressive look, characterized from the recognizable Key Largo lines.  The improved Key Largo 24 features the addition of details, such as the large side window and the new windscreen, give a touch of modernity without disrespecting the previous versions. For the interiors and cushions the Key Largo 24 features a reinterpretation of the contemporary style.  The Key Largo 24 IB offers a double cabin with Vee-shaped berth, and a head to starboard.  The Key Largo 24 IB is powered by a single Volvo gas petrol 270hp engine which delivers top speeds up to 38 knots.  These improvements are also present for the Sessa Key Largo 24 outboard version.

Beneteau Rises Turnover

French boatbuilder and leisure group Beneteau has reported a rise in turnover of 9.1 per cent on last year for the first three quarters of 2007/2008, and is in discussions for the sale of its high performance sailboat company Wauquiez International SAS. From September 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008 the group's turnover amounted to €799.9m, compared to €732.9m for the same period the year before. Boats accounted for €628.0m of the overall turnover, up from €576.1m the year before and representing over 95 per cent of the year's projected boat turnover. The rise of 9.0 per cent on 2006/2007 exceeded the projected turnover growth of 7.3 per cent. Beneteau confirmed its annual group target of €1,057.1m in turnover for 2007/2008. The group also announced that it has entered exclusive discussions with Verdoso Industry for the sale of sailboat brand Wauquiez, which represents less than one per cent of the group's boat turnover. Beneteau says that the sales of Wauquiez and its automotive brand Microcar will allow the group the concentrate on growing two new markets: motorboats from 15m-25m (50ft-82ft) and residences. The group has expressed intentions to grow the mobile home sector of its business to include residential housing. Turnover for Beneteau's mobile home activity was up 35.9 per cent on last year for the first three quarters of 2007/2008. Mobile homes accounted for 15.2 per cent of the group's business in 2006/2007, compared to 78.8 per cent represented by boats. Based on France's Atlantic coast, Beneteau has 24 production sites and employs 6,000 people. It has a presence in more than 50 countries.

Itama Power Circle Goes on Tour

The Itama Power Circle is a company initiative specifically created to offer guests a full-immersion experience of the brand's timeless style, enhanced by sophisticated, sun-kissed locations that are always in perfect harmony with the distinctive sea spirit of Itama yachts. Ideal settings in which to savour the wide range of sensations that these open yachts offer their owners through their direct sea contact design. Significantly the very first Itama Power Circle was held on the magnificent island of Capri in 2006, after which it continued its elegant voyage with an edition in Venice in 2007. This year, the event celebrates its third anniversary with another spectacular surprise that sees it become nothing less than a 3-stage tour. This format aims to expand still further the glamour and magic created in the past by stopping in three splendid Mediterranean locations that are world-famous for their natural beauty and prestige. Between June and July then, the Itama team will be presenting the worldwide preview of its brand new 75 footer at the marinas of Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo and Sitges, Barcelona. The third edition of the Itama Power Circle, an exclusive event devoted to the international press, dealers, customers and Itama enthusiasts, is therefore an ideal opportunity at which to unveil the blue and white flagship that has aroused considerable interest in both markets and sector experts ever since the first news of its launch was released. This model is an achievement the shipyard is rightfully proud of, as this craft boasts amazing performance, a new stylish profile with extraordinary technical advantages thanks to its record-breaking new carbon fibre windshield and avantop, spectacular standards of refined elegance and impeccable interior furnishings and design details. The new SeventyFive is a craft that takes Itama's class and exuberant sporting spirit to unprecedented heights, in a new and seductive interpretation of the typically sleek, streamlined style of these unique yachts. The Itama Power Circle, therefore, offers the shipyard's dealers and professional staff a concrete chance to construct a greater level of interaction between individual markets. In line with Itama's business strategy, which over the past few seasons has succeeded in steadily extending its distribution network towards new overseas contexts, this year the Itama Power Circle has a distinctly international flavour. But above all, the Itama Power Circle is a unique event specially organized by the company to offer all Itama fans the chance to really get to know the shipyard and its craft in truly spectacular settings. With its three splendid Mediterranean locations, a flagship ready to enchant the public with its extraordinary qualities, three unmistakably stylish models, and last but not least, an infinity of exclusive sensations that brand enthusiasts can take home with them, the 2008 Itama Power Circle is guaranteed to take a decisive step towards making this event the annual happening for real open yacht lovers.

Pershing and Luca Ferrari: A Passion for Speed

Luca Ferrari's love of racing is something of a family affair. It's the kind of love that begins when you're a child and then continues to grow until you just can't leave it behind. Being Alessandro and Norberto Ferretti's nephew, it is also a passion that Luca has inherited from a family that used to own an exclusive car showroom in Bologna, featuring prestigious names such as Lancia and Lamborghini. Today, racing continues to be his main hobby even if in the meantime he has become an official test pilot for Ferretti Group boats. After taking a break from racing for a few years, Luca is now ready to compete again, this time in the Carrera Cup, the prestigious Porsche motorsport championship that is organized by Porsche Italia. Motorsport, the purest expression of the Porsche identity, is a competition that no race lover would dream of missing. Something that Luca knows only too well, as this year he will be competing himself with the legendary 997 GT3 Cup, better known as the 997. Other competitors include the well-known Massimo Monti and a series of other professional and non-professional drivers, all with considerable experience at the wheel of a racing car. A number of young Formula circuit drivers will also be taking part, which will make the event thrilling, unique and a highly competitive racing, as Luca puts it. The Carrera Cup Italia is, in fact, a top level monobrand championship in which only experienced drivers battle for victory on prestigious circuits at the wheel of the Porsche 997. There are 8 meetings and two races at every meeting, making a total of 16 races per season with a single qualification session. Besides Luca, the other big star of the Carrera Cup this year will be Pershing, who have sponsored the car he is driving. For some time now, in fact, Porsche and Pershing have enjoyed a close and solid working relationship, especially during events where a passion for high speed is the name of the day! But let's return for a moment to the star of the show and establish the roots of this great love. Luca regards racing as both a hobby and a job! He has always competed in all kinds of races from go karts to racing cars and even vintage rallies. At a certain point in his life, however, he moved from the road to a new sports context, the sea. A decision that provided him with extraordinary opportunities to put himself to the test. Between 1989 and 1997 he raced in innumerable regattas, including winning the Offshore Class 1 world title in 1994 with Norberto Ferretti at his side. After a well-earned rest, Luca is now raring to compete again, this time for the Carrera Cup, which besides being GT enthusiasts' favourite event, is also another benchmark test for Luca who has never raced in GT circles before.

Sea Ray AquaPalooza Rregistration Gets Higher

It’s clear that boaters aren’t going to let these stressful economic times keep them landlocked this summer. At least that seems to be the case if early registration numbers for Sea Ray’s third annual AquaPalooza are any indication. As of the end of the day on June 8, the multi-location marine extravaganza had achieved an astounding 352-percent increase in boat registration and a 395-percent increase in guest registration over last year’s numbers. Here’s a bottom-line breakdown of the actual figures: In 2006, there were 442 boat and 1,785 guest registrations by June 8.In 2007, there were 1,048 boat and 4,732 guest registrations by June 8.In 2008, there were 4,502 boat and 22,277 guest registrations by June 8. Last summer, AquaPalooza attracted more than 10,000 boats and 30,000 guests to 120 events around the world. This year, The World’s Largest Boating Party was expecting to draw a more than 50,00 guests this year to 150 events on lakes, rivers, bays and harbors from New York to California, Egypt to Australia. Most of this year’s festivities will take place during the last two weekends in July, but other events are planned both before and after these dates. Sea Ray and its dealers will kick off AquaPalooza stateside from July 18 to 20 at the Signature Event at Coconuts at the Lake, at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. Hosted by MarineMax Lake Ozark, MarineMax Osage Beach and MarineMax Laurie, this massive heartland jam will feature food, drinks, music, games, giveaways and much more. For those who cannot make it to Lake of the Ozarks, Sea Ray dealerships around the world will transform 150 additional locations into official AquaPalooza party sites, making it easy for boaters to get in on the action.

Sessa Marine Opens a line of Showrooms

Since April, the Italian group has been inaugurating its Italian showrooms in Taglio di Po, Tropea and Porto Cervo, Denia in Spain and La Napoule in France. Before the end of the year, four new outlets representing the Italian brand will see the day: three in Italy and one in Croatia. These past few years, Sessa Marine has worked fervently on the development of a consistent brand image, built on the sum of its communication vectors, from advertising to trade shows, including all promotion-type documents for its boats. Today, the aim is to complement this action plan by involving the franchise holders in the project, creating a Sessa Marine universe, all the way through to the outlets. The layout of the Sessa showrooms, where white and light predominate, was entrusted to the young designer from the Christian Grande brand. And these choices were not made by chance, as light, glass-panelled surfaces and mirrors are also the structural elements which constitute the personality of the new Sessa yacht range; to be revealed in 2009 with the first C65. Finally, presentation of future projects is represented by videos, with lounge music in the background, to give shape to heavenly crafts which remain, for the moment, beyond reality.

Riva 170 Year of Emotions
Using the word ‘legend’ to talk about Riva is far too easy; it is much more difficult to describe the factors that perpetuate this legend. 170 words are printed in the very first pages of the book: each of them can be considered as a brick making up a large, constantly expanding castle. Try to read them in a sequence and you will see how easily you will visually and emotionally associate them with Riva. This is how Ferretti Group’s CEO Ferruccio Rossi introduces the book that enshrines the history of Riva, written by those who have experienced the brand’s 170-year history first-hand. The book includes 170 statements and unique pictures that can be browsed through or read in a sequence to take a step into the very heart of a brand which represents one of the most significant chapters in the history of Made-in-Italy production. Excerpts of letters, dedications, acknowledgements, and feelings put on paper, all sharing one common denominator: ‘Legend’; the pleasure of being onboard a Riva yacht, an icon of quality and design, pure craftsmanship and engineering perfection. A tribute to those who have put their heart, soul and expertise to the service of boatyards for more than a century. As you turn every page you will come in contact with the core values of a brand, a world leader in the yachting industry since time immemorial, still capable of constantly striving towards the future: tradition, family, exclusiveness, quality, design, care for details, lifestyle.  Owners, dealers, designers, managers, engineers, photographers, collectors, workers, sports champions, and celebrities have joined their voices to testify how delightful it is for everyone of them to associate Riva with the ‘Legend’. The pictures, taken over a 60-year period, are also a tribute to Cantieri Riva and to its historical and current models. These pictures allow us to take a journey through past and present times from very unusual perspectives: historical and modern pictures, snapshots of details and events, black & white ad colours spots create a bridge between the past and the present.

Sanlorenzo Environmental Award Winner
Since 1958, Sanlorenzo shipyard is a leader in the production of strictly tailor-made motor yachts. The Yard's entry for the 2012 Environmental Award Edition is their most ecological model in water and environmental protection: the Sanlorenzo SL94. With her unmistakable Sanlorenzo lines, the SL94 exemplifies elegance, balanced volumes and the proper ratio between covered and open spaces. Sanlorenzo shipyard combined new styling elements in perfect harmony with a series of innovations that continue to leave the yard's family feel of yacht planning unaltered. The Sanlorenzo SL94 was designed taking full advantage of the increasing environmental awareness that characterizes today's yachting industry, with the Sanlorenzo Technical Department responsible for the development of the SL94's eco-friendly systems. In awarding the Trophy, the UIM made special note of the electronic probes used to monitor and prevent oil spillage and the electric actuators used to avoid hydraulic oil leakage from the steering systems. On board sewage treatment is carried out by an IMO approved plant, while fuel usage and tank levels for the main engines and the gensets are continually monitored from the wheelhouse. Other important key points are the climatization plant optimization and the low energy lighting system. It is also important to underline that the Sanlorenzo SL94 is produced with fiberglass structures characterized by a low-emissions manufacturing process: the deckhouse and deck are made using vacuum-infusion resin, and the entire hull is built with the vacuum-infusion process using vacuum bags for PVC bonding.

Sea Ray Next Wave
Sea Ray announced the launch of its Next Wave initiative during a media event on Thursday evening at the Miami International Boat Show. The event was hosted by Dustan McCoy, President and CEO of Brunswick Corporation and Andy Graves, President of the Brunswick Boat Group and Interim President of Sea Ray. Opening the event, McCoy was emphatic about Brunswick's commitment to the marine industry and particularly to Sea Ray as its flagship brand. He cited several Innovation Awards received by Brunswick's Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Harris FloteBote brands earlier in the day as evidence of Brunswick's leadership and commitment to the industry. Graves followed McCoy's comments with the introduction of Sea Ray's Next Wave initiative, a product-focused campaign comprised of Innovative Thinking and Inspired Execution. Internal work on the project began in late 2011, and its public launch marked a 24-month commitment to enacting major innovation across all Sea Ray platforms, with the ultimate goal of redefining the boating experience. The public introduction of Next Wave included a series of new technologies and design breakthroughs that mark the first examples of Next Wave thinking in action. These include Quiet Ride™, first seen on the SLX Series, which reduces engine noise and vibration by nearly half; and SkyFlow Design™, first displayed on the award-winning 510 Sundancer, which eliminates the "cave" effect of most cruisers by blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.  Additional Next Wave technologies include TabletTunes™, which is a standard feature aboard the 610 Sundancer and is available on every Sea Ray Yacht; Concealed Outboard Propulsion, modeled on Boating Magazine's Boat of the Year, the 370 Venture; Dynamic Running Surface, first available on the 230 SLX; and TrueJet, the product of a groundbreaking partnership between Sea Ray and Weber Motors, featured now on the 21 Jet.

Boat Review: Nord West 370 Sports Top

Presentation
Launched in January this year Nord West's 370 Sports Top was a welcome addition to the renowned Swedish builder range, offering its second sport cruiser ideally suited for use in sunny climates. Based on all but the hard top on the 370 Sport which was launched three months before, the Sports Top version is a more of an all weather boat minimising the headache use of opening and closing canopies when the weather gets ugly. Benny Martinsson who apart of being owner of Nord West is also the designer, created an exquisite looking hard top sports cruiser with the Sports Top, using the 370 hull presented first as Flybridge in 2008, and today having four versions all offering a total different way of going to the sea. The Sports Top just as its other sisters gives high quality not only in the abundant use of wood outside and inside, but also in the fittings of each compartment you open in this boat. It is also versatile regards its propulsion being available with easy to use less maintenance IPS pods or stern drive engines, this last giving better performance and economy. For the 370 Sports Top stern drive is the choice, for reasons you can read in the Performance paragraph, but if your marina manoeuvring is not so sure try the IPS before taking my word as this will be easier.
Accommodation
Welcoming you on board the 370 Sports Top is the spacious teak laid bathing platform aft. This is among the most spacious for this size of boat. The sides of the platform are also free, good for side to mooring typical of Northern Europe marinas. Going up one step you get into the entrance of the modern flush decked cockpit, which is for two thirds of it covered by the hardtop, making this area usable in most weather situations. Here is a C-shaped settee to port, highly finished wet bar with grill opposite being more of another galley on the outside, a two person lounge settee to port, and the fully equipped dual seated helm station to starboard. Fittings outside is full of rich highly finished wood, with teak used for all the stepping surfaces in the cockpit as well as the side decks, with polished wood finishing for the wet bar and the aft rail.
A central door followed by two steps takes you to the lower accommodation deck, which again is emphasized by the huge amount of luxurious mahogany wood being used. I would say the 370 Sports Top has about double to wood fittings to that of most competitors in this size boat. The below layout is conventional offering a spacious L-shaped galley to starboard just as you walk down the steps, opposite a C-shaped which transforms to an additional double berth, and shower head. Both cabins located forward for the owners, and aft for the guests offer a double berth. The aft cabin has also a settee upon entrance, ideally suited for your guests when they want to have some private chilling time.
Performance
Coming from a hull which was designed for an IPS flybridge boat, one gets pure bliss at the performance of the 370 Sports Top, which not only has high speed of forty knots with the bigger engine but is incredibly responsive in tight turns. Handling is lively, usual characteristic of Nordic boats, with a millimetre light and responsive steering, but the Nord West also feels heavy and stuck on the water giving an assurance in rough seas navigation. Engine options are all Volvo with three stern drive choices, starting from the smaller D4 260hp, D4 300hp and the bigger D6 370hp. The IPS option is the 400 unit with D4 300hp engines. Maximum speed is 40 knots with D6 370hp, 36 knots for D4 300hp, and 31 knots on IPS400. The stern drive version gives 5 knots more in speed to the same powered IPS400 in top speed figures. Cruising is 28 knots for stern drive propulsion, and 25 knots for IPS at both 3000 rpm. The range is the best at 309 nautical miles with the D4 300hp engines. IPS400 gives 68 miles less but at a higher rpm of 3200 and 29 knots speed. Most powerful D6 370hp option has a best cruise at 28 knots which gives 271 nautical miles of range. For the smaller D4 260hp data is still not available, but I would still expect a 30 knots plus speed. Best miles to litres come always at a 29 / 28 knots cruise whatever the engine propulsion choice, showing hull proficiency at these speeds.
Positive
luxury wood use
bathing platform
IPS or stern drive choice
Negative
tight cockpit to side deck steps
Competition
This size Sport Cruiser with hard top has really picked up in recent years, having here eleven other competing choices for the 370 Sports Top. Criteria is eleven to 12.00 metres in size, open hard top with no patio door, two cabin interior, and stern drive or IPS propulsion. The Windy 37 Grand Mistral is the oldest design, presented as an open 36 in 1994 and a hard top 37 in 2000. The Tiara, Prestige and Sessa are available only with a hard top. The Sessa is the most similar to the Nord West in layout, while the Rio has the most unique interior offering a full beam owners cabin and two shower heads. The other boat offering two heads is the Spanish Moa, the longest at an exact twelve meters. Just as the 370 Sports Top, the Rio, Sessa, and wild card Marex are all new 2009 models.
Arturo Stabile 37 Stama HT - sun pad cockpit, unusual crane passarelle aft
Bavaria 37 SportHT - spacious cockpit sun pad C-shaped settee, high free board
Elan Power 35 - tight spaces, good performing Tony Castro hull
Mano M35 - hard top optional, two cockpit layout choices
Moa 40 Platinum Hard Top - two heads, 38 knots speed with D6 310hp
Prestige 38 S - double C-shaped settees in cockpit, aft cabin with scissor berth
Rio 36 Air - minimal, full beam mid cabin, 2 heads, hard top extends aft
Sealine SC35 - extended hardtop, modern minimal style inside outside
Sessa C38 - modern design, double galley outside and inside
Tiara 3500 Sovran - open plan interior, IPS only, highly fitted out
Windy 37 Grand Mistral - optional hard top, good handling, 1994 design
WILD CARD: Marex 370 Aft Cabin Cruiser - single engine shaft drive, aft guest cabin
Conclusion
Nord West has become a big player in the Motor Cruiser, Yacht market in the Northern waters on the up side part of the European continent. Proving this in the last years is that the Swedish builder won four prices and received two further nominations. With the 370 Sports Top which was launched in January 2009 in Dusseldorf, the Swedish Nord West is stretching its sights to the competitive Mediterranean market by offering a Sport Cruiser for use in sunny weather, but without forgetting its Nordic heritage for safety and practical features. The hard top is a much desired accessory today, but apart this the 370 Sports Top scores high points against the competition for its fittings being of the highest standard, its IPS or stern drive choice, and its top forty knots performance considering that the 370 is also among the heaviest over built boat in its class.

Monthly News - April 2011

-pic of the month- Italian Yachts Debut

Azimut Pre-Loved Yachts

The luxury of being able to count on the expertise and reliability of the world's largest marine player, including when researching used yachts. Under the motto "Either New or from Preloved-Yachts", a new website was launched that is dedicated to used yachts from the Azimut-Benetti dealer network, with the site's very title making clear the philosophy that inspires it. On the one side, there are indeed special yachts that gave their owners unforgettable moments; on the other, there are new owners who are looking to buy a used or - to use the charming description coined in Australia - a "preloved" yacht. Matching these boats with these owners is the mission of Preloved-yachts.com, the world's only website where it's possible to choose the yacht of your dreams with the peace of mind of being accompanied and advised by top-rated professionals: the extensive sales network for the Azimut-Benetti Group and Fraser Yachts, companies specialising in the management of luxury yachts. Owners will be able to count on the support of an expert for obtaining all necessary information, booking on-board visits, and organising trial-runs at sea. At all times, owners will have at their side a professional, reliable partner for providing assistance at each stage of the purchase: from management of bureaucratic matters to selection of the necessary skipper and crew. For the first few months, the service will be available only for yachts moored in Italy. But once it's fully up and running, the site will enable visitors to search for their special preloved yacht throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

Azimut Hainan Rendez-vous Five Star Success

The most important boat show in the Asian world came to an end several hours ago: the 2011 edition of the Hainan Rendez-vous. In confirmation of its leadership in Asia and, specifically, on the Chinese Market, Azimut Yachts, represented by it five Official Dealers, celebrated the sale of its fifth boat during the Boat Show actually, the eighth boat, if one considers the three boats sold in the run-up to the Boat Show. Garnering much acclaim were the models from the punchy "S" collection, as well as the yachts from the Flybridge collection, which is emblematic of Azimut's functional design. Of the five stars, one in particular lit up the skies above Hainan: made official this morning was the sale of an Azimut Grande 120SL, the impressive, manoeuvrable gliding yacht that is the flagship of the Azimut Yachts line and one of the largest boats placed on the dynamic Asian market. Azimut Yachts once again, attending to the Asia with a representative office, confirms its ability to maintain very close contacts with its boat owners and to meet their desires and expectations through the support of its extensive dealer network and attentive client service that is unique in yachting circles.

Azimut Loves at First Sight

An Azimut turned out to be the first yacht sold after the opening of the Hainan Boat Show. It took just a few hours for the new owner to fall in love with his Azimut and commit to buying it. The model: an Azimut 43, a sophisticated representative of the "Flybridge Collection" and emblematic of Azimut's functional design. Right after signing the contract, the owner said he was thrilled, and not long afterwards, a second boat from the Flybridge collection found its owner, all amidst non-stop talks and visits with current and prospective customers at the Boat Show. The news, which came shortly after the opening of China's premier boat show, once again reaffirms the leading role enjoyed by the Azimut brand and the Azimut-Benetti Group as world ambassadors of Italian styling.

Azimut Continues Advances in Chinese Market

Azimut Yachts attended the 2011 edition of the Hainan International Boat Show, where it will be represented by its five official dealers at the event's largest and most glamorous booth. In a show of its commitment and willingness to continue along the path it forged a number of years ago, the Italian brand will had five models on display to open the Chinese show: the 40S from the punchy Sportive collection; the 58, 70 and 100 Leonardo from the Flybridge collection, which epitomises Azimut's functional design; and the 105 from the company's flagship collection, Azimut Grande. For the Magellano collection, on the other hand, boat enthusiasts will have to wait a few months: The Magellano 50 is expected to be delivered in late 2011 to its owner. Thanks to the support of its extensive dealer network and attentive customer service that is unique in yachting circles, the Azimut Yachts brand can maintain very close contacts with its boat owners and earn appreciation on the Chinese market as being the leading brand of luxury yachts. The jury of the prestigious Asia Boating Award 2011 in fact has selected the Magellano 50 as one of the finalists in the category Best Production Motor Yacht (51 to 80 feet), with the Azimut Yachts brand also being nominated for Best Brand Presence in Asia. The current Azimut Yahcts orders portfolio includes 16 boats, three of them sold just few days before the Hainan Rendez-vous. Such positive trend confirm that Azimut Yachts has gained a high appreciation by the Asian shipowners. Also on the program for the Boat Show are three events in pure Italian Style that will illuminate the nights of the exhibition and paint the Hainan sky with the colours of Azimut Yachts. On three evenings - April 1, 2 and 3 - and at three locations, three Italian icons known throughout the world will portray the most captivating and characteristic aspects of "stile italiano": the mysterious charm of Venice, the vibrancy and vitality of Rome, and the breathtaking passion of Sicily.

Gulf Craft Strengths Position in Asia

Gulf Craft, the Middle East and Asia’s largest and leading builder of luxury cruisers and superyachts, is once again proving to be a pioneer in the Asian yachting industry, following the address from Erwin Bamps, COO of Gulf Craft, given on the first day of the 3rd Asia Superyacht Conference on Thursday 7th April. The topic of “The Middle East and South East Asia – developing an interlinked superyachting industry”, highlighted Gulf Craft’s vision of an emergence of a third large yachting destination globally, after the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, defined by the yachting grounds connecting the Middle East and SE-Asia cruising destinations, for tourists from outside the region, and also for yacht owners and charter operators based within the region. As one of the few luxury yacht and boat builders based in the Orient, Gulf Craft have supplied boats to Asia for the past 20 years, and experience a similar client requirement list both in the Middle East and Asia, with both regions still being emerging markets for Superyacht ownership and operation. The presentation was warmly received, as key industry figures acknowledged UAE based Gulf Craft as perfectly positioned on the edge of Asia and the steady growth of Gulf Craft’s presence in the SE-Asia market. The Majesty Yachts range of fly-bridge motor yachts emphasizes this as the range has been developed and expanded over the years and Gulf Craft now feel it is an opportune time to introduce this premium range to the region while the local appetite for luxury yachts is growing hand in hand with ambitious investments in marine infrastructure and services; especially now that it is becoming more and more feasible and attractive to keep and operate luxury yachts in SE-Asia. Gulf Craft is currently on a 6 week tour of the SE-Asia region to promote intensively the Majesty Yachts range, which has only been receiving limited visibility on these waters so far, with a noted passing through of the Majesty 130 in 2007 on its maiden voyage from the Gulf to the East Coast of Australia. Showing their commitment and investment in the region, Gulf Craft is participating at the Singapore Yacht Show between 8 – 10 April, then heading to Phuket in Thailand and Penang in Malaysia with the Majesty 88 and Majesty 56, before returning to Singapore for Boat Asia on 12 – 15 May. Furthermore, as part of their continuing strong-hold in Asia, Gulf Craft is proud to announce its new membership of the Superyacht Singapore Association. Through the membership Gulf Craft are further confirming their commitment to the Asia region and increasing their local presence and support for the ever-growing Asian yachting industry. The Superyacht Singapore Association (SSA) is a non-profit association formed in 2007 with the prime objective of ‘promoting Singapore as a superyacht destination and a hub to create economic value for Singapore in the superyacht industry.’ Gulf Craft has been accepted as a member due to its proven track record of reliably delivering luxury motor yachts in the region, and future plans to further expand in this key yachting market. The significant presence of Gulf Craft in Asia has already been recognized through their nomination in the Asia Boating Awards 2011 for the ‘Best Asian Motor Yacht Builder 81ft and Up’, where the winner will be announced at Hong Kong Boat Show in early May.

Magnum Marine Icon for 45 Years

Magnum Marine's longstanding successful and “icon” activity continues without a break, not even for their 45th anniversary and the launch of two exceptional new models: the Magnum 51' “Gold Label” (with a special gold livery created for the occasion), and the all yellow Magnum 44' “Banzai”. Two icons of Open-class luxury yachting: both large yachts feature increased below-decks headroom and are capable of stellar performances - 50 knots for the Gold Label, 45 knots for the Banzai. They combine safety and seaworthiness and are easily managed without payed hands. Both are characterized by luxurious appointments and a very high level of custom design. The quality of Magnum Marine's products has been confirmed over the years by a series of high-profile owners: the King of Spain, the King of Sweden, the Emir of Bahrein, the Prince of Qatar, the Shah of Persia, the Sultan of Brunei; the Onassis, Agnelli and Berlusconi families, the singer Lenny Kravitz, and many others. To celebrate the event, Magnum Marine has prepared another surprise: the new Magnum Anniversary Book. It covers the splendid history of the brand from their beginning in the 1960's with “guru” Don Aronow, to the latest models created since 1993 under Katrin Theodoli's leadership. And it's thanks to the only true lady in the nautical industry that the yard is living a second youth and celebrating it's 45th anniversary this year. And to continue a year of festivities for the yard, based on NE 188th in Miami, the legendary “Thunder-boat Row”, this summer a numerous group of owners from all over the Mediterranean will meet for Magnum's 45th anniversary at the Magnum European Rendez – Vous in Ischia Island (3-5 of June). The event received the prestigious patronage of the UIM, the International Powerboating Federation, thanks to the several world successes of Magnum Marine to what it represented in the history of Powerboating. Nordhavn Draw Crowds to Europe Open House

Nordhavn Europe’s first “Open House” proved to be huge success with over 60 groups of prospects enjoying the fantastic line-up of Nordhavns never seen before in Europe, and as luck would have it, the weather was tremendous for the entire 10 days of the Open House which ran March 25-April 2. Prospects travelled far and wide from all over Europe including Norway and Turkey, and some even from as far as the U.S. Attendees were informed that commissioning would continue on some of the display boats during the Open House, and so this gave them the rare opportunity to see “beneath the surface” while work was being done, which is something that they would not normally see.  The line-up of Nordhavns enabled all interested to begin their tour by first viewing the Nordhavn 43, which was out-of-the-water, allowing attendees to really appreciate and understand the underwater profile, the quality of engineering and design of the 43 which is echoed throughout the range. Two Nordhavn 47s were available again, one on land and the other on the pontoon. Interestingly, the in-water 47, although six years old, had been looked after extremely well by both her first and current owners, and showed as a much newer boat. Also drawing big crowds were the Nordhavn 55 and 60. It was unusual to see both brand new boats side-by-side, but an ideal opportunity to compare and contrast. Both boats had very different layouts; mainly, the 55 had the forward island berth which was beautiful. With this layout we were often asked which is the “Master” as this forward cabin option is so appealing. The 60 had more customisation than the 55 with a new layout in the forward cabin area: the owner chose a bunk cabin on the starboard side and double berth to port with a shared head arrangement forward. Again, beautifully designed and built. Other modifications included the Captain’s cabin behind the pilothouse that was converted to a full office, an enlarged salon table, and galley counters that were raised by 4 cm. with custom galley equipment. Next up was the magnificent 76. As with all Nordhavns, attendees were hugely impressed with her presence, size, internal volume and space. Individually designed for the owner and his family, she sat head and shoulders above all the other boats in her class. The only stock boat that was on display was the Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer. PAE heads Jim Leishman and Dan Streech knew that it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce the Motorsailer to the European market at the Open House. The prospects that came in anticipation of seeing her for the first time were very impressed, and this design really gives customers another cruising option. Nordhavn Europe’s offices are located in the hub of the U.K.’s marine industry and is based at Hamble Point Marina at the mouth of the Hamble River as it enters Southampton Water. Hamble River has a large number of boats moored up and down the river in numerous marinas, on swinging moorings and on mid river pontoons. All the Nordhavns were berthed on the last pontoon of the Hamble River, so they are the last line of boats that people see on the way out of the river and the first line of boats they see on the way in. This exposure gives current boat owners plenty to look at and discuss as they head out for a day’s sail, especially with the current abundance of Nordhavns in this location. Some attendees had the unexpected pleasure and opportunity to meet a gentleman called Callum McCormick, self-named “Dreamer-In-Chief” and proprietor of the Nordhavn Dreamer’s site. Callum spent two days walking the Nordhavn pontoon taking numerous photos. With his great sense of humour and big personality, he was a pleasure to have around. The site has been running for the last two years and Callum informed that there are over 1,200 Nordhavn dreamer subscribers.

Sessa Marine New Production and Distribution in South America

At the 2011 Rio de Janeiro Boat Show (April 27 – May 2 ) Sessa Maine will announce the establishment of a new company of the Sessa Holding Spa Group: Sessa Marine Brasil Ltda, based in the industrial district of São José in the State of Santa Catarina, in the south of the country. Sessa has a strong international vocation – with more than 90 dealers in 32 countries accounting for 70% of its total sales – and continues to expand after founding Sessa Marine America in Florida in 2006 and signing important distribution agreements in Mexico, Dubai, Turkey and the Middle East in 2010 and early 2011. Sessa Marine has been a big name in Italian-made yachts for over fifty years and has now decided it needs direct representation in South America in the hopes of conquering a large share of the market there. The company’s new project will allow it to serve local markets from close by and overcome the problems linked with customs tariffs on imports from Europe. To help penetrate this complex market Sessa Marine will be working with a local partner, Luis Neto , whose experience includes working with the Brazilian shipyard Intech, which has been making military and working vessels for more than 6 years. There will be no conflict of interest here, but a fruitful collaboration, strategically aimed towards development of products and markets on the continent without affecting European production policies. The partnership between Sessa Marine and Luis Neto will definitely bring great benefits and prospects. For the union will make it possible to combine a focus on detail and Italian-made quality with a workforce offering top quality and advanced technology in line with Sessa Marine standards as well as an opportunity to apply a complete hull production process employing infusion moulding technology. The state of Santa Catarina is one of the most interesting locations in Brazil’s growing boat market. The region is not only the perfect place for sailing, with a highly developed tourism industry, but also an industrial centre with a strong structure of related industries, an important tradition of boat-building and a well-established network of accessories suppliers. The south of the country also offers the perfect logistics for future development of Latin American markets. To Sessa Marine, being present in this area means playing a key role in one of today’s most important yacht markets.

Sunseeker Old and New

On the beautiful sunny morning of Friday the 8th of April, the Sunseeker shipyards had a pleasant surprise in the form Madeline, a stunning Green Goddess truck to raise awareness for Waggy Tails, the local animal rescue charity. The Green Goddess, owned by one of our suppliers, Ideal Plumbing, is the colloquial name for the Bedford Self Propelled Pump, a fire engine used originally by the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS), and latterly by the British Armed Forces. These green-painted vehicles were built between 1953 and 1956 for the Auxiliary Fire Service. The design was based on a Bedford RL series British military truck. During the war, these green goddesses brought huge amounts of fresh water to the decimated cities and were also used to support the fire service. Madeline was stored for most of her life and brought out for the two fireman strikes of 1977 and 2002 according to her log details. Ideal Plumbing use her to raise awareness for Waggy Tails charity and today, she is still saving lives, but in a different way.

Despite an overall recruitment freeze throughout the business due to the recent economic downturn in 2008/9, Sunseeker continued to recruit apprentices, recognising the vital need to continue investing in and nurturing future talent. The apprentice programme combines learning at work (NVQ Level 3) with technical certificates (City and Guilds) plus key skills such as Maths and Team Work. At the end of their 4 year programme, the graduating apprentices are presented an award by the Management Team at the Southampton Boat Show. This year, Sunseeker is looking at recruiting 20 new apprentices for the programme.

Viking Yachts 47 Years

1st April marks a special date in the history of the Viking Yacht Company. Founded by brothers Bill and Bob Healey 47 years ago on April 1, 1964, what began as a small, wooden boat building company has developed into one of the world's largest privately owned and family operated manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sportfishing convertible yachts. From a single building in our salad days to a massive facility encompassing five buildings and 820,000 square feet of manufacturing space, Viking has grown by leaps and bounds. Ever the consummate boat builder, a youthful Bill Healey discusses Viking's running gear and bottom shape with editor Hank Bowman from Boating magazine in the late 1960s. The Healeys' willingness to share boating knowledge throughout the years earned them recognition among their peers and resulted in the Healey Brothers being inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame for their numerous contributions to pleasure boating and the marine industry. From day one, the emphasis was on building good looking boats that ran strong and were nicely finished. A boat that would turn the heads of people walking down the dock. Today's Vikings are the epitome of style, luxury and performance. Each one built with the same care and attention to detail as the one before it, only better.

Project: Sessa Fly 47

Sessa present the Fly 47 project a natural evolution of the 45 Fly, and part of its Flybridge Line. Rather than calling it a simple Flybridge, Sessa introduces the concept of the advanced open yacht for its Fly 47, with the ability on the main deck to fully open the area. In fact, this fourteen meter flybridge cruiser, offers three comfortable and liveable cabins, with two bathrooms having separate shower stalls.  The main deck offers spaciousness in a split level arrangement with an ergonomic galley located to port side and a brightly living area.  The flybridge offers space of more than twenty sqm able to comfortably host eight-ten people. The qualities of navigability, derived from the experience of the 45 Fly of which this model is a natural evolution.
