Project: Azimut 68 Flybridge

Back to 68!  When Azimut launched the 68 Plus in the Genoa boat show of 1999 it re-invented the twenty meter flybridge motor yacht segment, and showed how an operator yacht can exist in this size.  Some nine years later and the stopping of production the Azimut 68 Plus and its Evolution 2005 update will sell a record one hundred fifty plus of units.  So when Azimut comes in 2021 with the project for a 68 Flybridge model, we are interested for what's going to come.  Designed as all the latest Azimut Flybridge and S models by Alberto Mancini, she is in fact the third Flybridge Collection from the designer following the 78 in 2019 and the 53 launched this year, the coming 68 will feature a four double cabins layout, with a crew cabin aft sleeping two.  The difference in the 68 Flybridge will also be choice on the main deck, as unlike previous Azimut's or other main stream production yachts of this size she is available in three layouts all revolving around the galley, enclosed or open in the middle of the saloon, or astern galley.  The 68 follows Azimut use for IPS pod drives, as the two previous 78 and 53 models, and will be powered by twin Volvo 1000hp for a max speed up to 32 knots.

Overmarine Mangusta Super Yacht Aground in Venice

A 46 meter Overmarine Mangusta super yacht titled Q95 ended on a sand bank in the entrance of the Venice canal on the seventeen July.  The accident happened at the entrance of the canal between Lido and the Sant Elena marina.  The yacht captain managed to free up the Mangusta super yacht with out assistance, but following the grounding he was followed by the Venice coast guard to the Lido of Sette Metri destination.  No injuries happened and the super yacht is reported to have sustained no particular damage.
M/y Q95 is a 2018 Overmarine Mangusta Oceano 46.  Presented in 2018 to an exterior design of Stefano Righini the Ocean 46 is a triple deck super yacht with a bulb bow full displacement hull shape, with accommodation for twelve guests in five cabins, and nine crew in five cabins.  Powered by twin MTU 2450hp engines she has a top speed up to sixteen knots, a cruise of eleven, and a range up to four thousand nautical miles.

Project: Overmarine Mangusta 165 Rev

Overmarine present the project for the new revolutionary Mangusta 165 Rev.  The fifty metre flagship of the new Maxi Open Rev series, is a celebration of design and functionality, comfort and great performances, is now ready to cruise the seas leaving behind her unmistakable wake.  This is a project developed jointly by Overmarine's Engineering Department in collaboration with renowned designer Igor Lobanov, who designed the Mangusta 104 Rev which launched this 2021 year, and take over from Stefano Righini who designed the Open series up and before these two new models.  The 165 Rev stands out for her aggressive profile featuring rounded, curved shapes typical of Mangusta's iconic style. Her slender, dynamic lines draw inspiration, as the designer explains from 1930s sporty cars. This means classic, timeless beauty, which, however, on this model, goes hand in hand with dramatically scaled-up performances and a refreshed, renovated concept of lifestyle.  Key elements on the 165 Rev, just like on all Mangusta yachts, are the impressive onboard volumes, the comfort of en plein air areas, and the smooth, uninterrupted flow between the interiors and exteriors. On this fifty meter super sport yacht, the Owner can decide to experience life at sea in the utmost privacy or relax in one of the many convivial areas, enjoying his holiday surrounded by a different landscape every day and quickly moving from one destination to the next; for example, waking up in Portofino and sipping a cocktail in front of Costa Smeralda a few hours later.  One of the brand-new features on this yacht is the beach area: indeed, the aft door opens like the roof of a convertible sporty car, revealing a magnificent 36 square meters, fully-equipped lounge area on the sea. The side garage can fit a tender and two jet-skis, allowing guests to ride the waves whenever they feel like. On the sundeck is a large convivial space furnished with comfortable sofas and a bar located amidships, while the huge forward area offers the Owner and his guests a sunbathing area and an infinity pool, where they can indulge in pure relaxation. The interiors have been styled by Milan-based architecture firm M2 atelier using warm colour shades and implementing contemporary solutions aimed at making the most of natural light, which is the key element on this vessel. The floor-to-ceiling windows of the salon minimise the division between interiors and exteriors, and create a cosy, sophisticated atmosphere. The wonderful side foldable terraces, flawlessly integrated in the yacht profile, open up on breath taking views. In this way, the day area is flooded by the sun and surrounded by the sea, offering a unique immersive experience. The main salon features a pleasant sofa lounge set and a large dining area, which also includes a bright bar counter illuminated by three skylights that let through plenty of natural light. Also on the main deck is the airy master stateroom; a real open-space loft on two levels having as its core element the elongated side windows and ensuring maximum privacy to the Owner, who has also available a lounge area and an exclusive personal office. From there, access is gained to the night area with full-beam bathroom.  The lower deck has been entirely used for guest accommodation, and can be customised to offer a range of solutions with up to five cabins; four guest cabins plus a VIP suite or 4 cabins plus a media and lounge area or a gym.  Such impressive layout flexibility is matched by outstanding performance versatility, thanks to a propulsion system with four MTU 2600hp engines and with Kamewa waterjets propulsion, which push the yacht to an exhilarating maximum speed of 34 knots while limiting consumption. Veem gyro stabilizers ensure smooth, comfortable cruising event at low speeds and in all sea conditions, taking the vessel's range up to 650 miles.

Flybridge Cruiser on Fire Near Elba Island

A fourteen meter Raffaelli motor cruiser with three guests onboard went on fire some nine miles from Isola Elba and nineteen miles from Pianosa island on the morning of Friday 16 July at around 0700 hours.  As reported the Raffaelli flybridge cruiser which had departed from Scarlino yacht harbor in the early hours of the morning, had the fire start out from the engine room.  A VHF call was made to the coast guard, with the Porto Ferrario, Isola Elba section responding immediately to the call and saving the three passengers, who in the mean time led themselves to safety onboard the tender. A fire fighting squad was deployed to save the Raffaelli flybridge cruiser, unfortunately with no success, which dominated by the fire ended in sinking.
The flybridge motor cruiser in the fire is a Raffaelli Storm S,  a 14.50 meter flybridge cruiser presented in 1990 and produced till 1996.  The Storm S was an evolution of the Storm model launched in 1986, adding fifty centimetres in length and with this expanding the main cabin for more space in the saloon and aft deck, and now featuring a sloop stern.  The Storm S was a popular flybridge cruiser for the most part in the Italian market and a discreet success also coming in France, thanks to its three cabins layout and its seakeeping qualities, this being a Raffaelli trade mark.  The Raffaelli Storm S was powered with Cat engines; 380hp at first and newer units having the 440hp engines.  Top speed was 28 with the lower powered engines and 31 with the 440 units.  The Storm and Storm S sold over sixty units in a ten year production run, and are still popular used boats and a common sight in most Italian marinas.  Raffaelli has always been famous for producing honest boats with seakeeping and strong construction qualities, and till the entering of the CE rules in 1998 built its boats to A1 Class Nippon design standards, something rare in sub 24 meter plus yachts in that time.

New Model: Otam 70 HT

Otam confirms once again its strong identity and its aim of building yachts characterized by extreme customizations and excellent performance and reliability, making craftmanship the distinctive feature of the Italian shipyard. Proof of this is the newly launched Otam 70HT that will make its World debut at 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival in beginning September.  With one-off design by BG Design Firm, as well as bespoke engineering and hull lines by Umberto Tagliavini Marine Design, the new OTAM 70HT is the epitome of the dynamic performance and timeless style that has made the iconic Italian brand instantly recognizable around the world.  Strong attention has been paid to details and stylistic features typical of the Otam brand such as the low centre of gravity, the large air intakes on the sides of the sundeck in the bow, as well as on the hard top. All air intakes convey into the spacious engine room, as in every Otam yacht. The exhaust vents are cleverly integrated into glossy black grilles in the aft bulwarks either side of the swim platform and can be accented with strip LED lighting, to become another design element themselves.  As with all Otam products, customization is a trademark and a clear corporate choice. With an overall length of just over 22 meters, and 21 degrees of deadrise, the 70HT offers an unmatched seaworthiness, unrivalled space and great comfort for a fast luxury cruiser of her size with extraordinary efficiency.  The owner of the first Otam 70HT chose a cockpit and salon with sofa seating along the portside for hosting large groups. Another cool design feature is the up-and-down electric glass screen separating the interior lounge and exterior cockpit, specifically requested by the owner. The glazing completely retracts between the two C-shaped sofas and, when lowered, opens up the interior and cockpit to provide a single en plein air space so owner and guests can interact whether they are inside or outside. The new Otam 70HT offers a comfy sunbed on top of the transom tender garage together with a second generous volume sun bed on the foredeck, integrated in the center bow muscle.  The first unit as chosen by the owned did not  feature a tender garage in order to maximize the beach area.  A key feature of the interiors is the futuristic dashboard, also designed by BG Design. It’s inspired by the aeronautical and automotive world and the design resembles the console of a jet fighter.  There are different options also available on the accommodation deck: Otam does not impose any solution but it designs the interiors together with the customer, always delivering an exclusive final product.  This first hull has a three cabins layout with an owner’s suite, two guests, separate galley and a crew cabin for two in the bow with independent access for a total privacy. Clients are free to choose their own layout and interior solutions, limitless customization is Otam calling card, synonymous with luxury craftsmanship in the world.  The first unit is powered by twin 2000hp MTU engines coupled to Arneson drives and custom Otam-Rolla propellers.  The shipyard also offers a most powerful version with 2400hp CAT, reaching a top speed of 53 knots which, combined with the hull designed by Marine Design by Scorzoni Tagliavini and Moltedo, ensures an unparalleled efficiency.  Seakeeper gyro stabilizers can be fitted for best comfort both under way and at anchor.
